In essence you are saying that the government should sell oil from its wells at a loss, so as to guarantee cheap fuel?

Yes, I can see the JV partners leaping for joy at that!

You guys want cheap fuel at any cost...even if it means low earnings for the poor Nigerians who do the drilling of oil for you.
Afghanistan got $1 million from "poor Nigerians ".

Golan007:
Simple question:

If you bought a mariginal field for 5 million dollars,
It produces 20k barrels of oil a day and of course requires operating cost of say 1 million dollars a year, would you like to sell your product at the prevailing International rate or would you be ready to lose on your profit (or even loss as that isn't guaranteed) jfor whatever reason?

You want someone who invested millions and even billions of dollars on his project to be selling at a loss whilst the man selling yam can decide whatever price he wants to set for his produce.

And this makes sense to you.
I didn't suggest nor say that private individuals who own oil wells should sell to the modular refineries owners.

I said that the GOVERNMENT should take from THEIR OWN oil well and experiment by giving it to the refineries for one year,at reasonable local prices, let them produce and sell to Nigerians and see how the market forces responds to that.

They can scale up production in a couple of years, the government will save from the subsidy, more jobs for the youths, less insecurity - if it pans out well.

P.S Don't bring the argument of "how are we going to pay the crude drillers "? Buhari gave out $1 million to Afghanistan, we could pay the workers from such purse that can dole out that kind of money.

So I as a private producer of oil, rather than sell at the internationally agreed price, would now be forced to sell at a lower price for what reason?

If you owned a business, would you accept it?
What kind of terrible reasoning is this?

You prefer selling the product to outsiders and impoverishing your own people cos you'd make more money?

We have countries buying the farm produce of their farmers, giving them lands, seedlings, fertilizer etc just to make sure the country have food to eat but you'd rather pay subsidies, impoverish your people and sell to foreigners just so you can make money?

With this mindset, this country is doomed.

Bros crude oil is over $100
In simple words, every 159 liters (barrel ) of Crude oil produces the following:
* 73 liters Petrol
* 36 liters Diesel
* 20 liters Jet fuel & heavy fuel oil
* 6 liters Propene
&
* 34 liters of other products (Butane, Asphalt & Sulphur) this is even the efficiency of big refineries but let's assume small refinery can produce this
That's 12k for petrol (at 170)+12k for diesel(at 350) +8400 for jet fuel at (420 ) plus propane 4800( at 700) that's 37200 for a product u bought for 55000 ($100) that's that's 18k loss ..ooh

So let's assume their is a petrochemical plant that would by the waste at 8k highly unlikely ...that's still 10k loss ...

Notice a price the products at retail price

Power , labour, maintenance haven't been added ooh

So oga would you do this business after investing 15 million dollars ?
They have been producing the fuel without these your analysis and supplying them to the filling stations.

Take the byproducts to petrochemical in Rivers state.

The ones that were refined abroad, did the refineries pay for the byproducts? NO. They gave us what we wanted, we paid them and left the byproducts for them. So,why the change of operation because it's refined locally?

This is one of the reasons people hate this country and the leaders.

You pay millions abroad to refine the oil, we said, pay the same millions to your fellow countrymen to refine the same oil, you begin to give excuses.

Ye are being too too optimistic.

A standard refinery costs more than Chukwu and Nnadozie's illicit operation in the bush. If Chukwu and Nnadozie got government recognition, they would have to shell out lots of money to upgrade...which will be passed on to their consumers.
Buhari gave out $1 million of our money to Afghanistan and you're here giving me reasons why we cannot do what it takes to develop this country .

You're paying millions to refine outside, we say pay the same millions to refine here and you begin to reel out excuses.

Later when people cuss and hate on this country, you lots begin to mouth Patriotism like it's going out of fashion.

But they have

Maintenance costs

Upgrade costs

Staff costs (salaries don't remain static, they rise. THEY HAVE TO RISE, or you think you would pay Okoro who works at the refinery and has a wife and 4 children, with a set of twins on the way the same salary you paid him ten years ago, when he was single and first working at the place?)

Transpoort costs....(yes ).

That adds to the price, and subsides don't cover all those costs well.
You lots are just jokers.

Assign just two OML to these modular refineries to produce and sell to the local market for one year and see for yourselves that you're not ready to develop this country.

Well, they will have to buy the oil they're used to stealing. They will also refine using cleaner methods all of which involve money. I'm sure you're no stranger to the soot pollution in Port Harcourt and environs.
Improving standards has nothing on the price cos they make more than enough to cover for that.

Just don't sell the crude to them at the international market rate if you really want to solve this problem.
PoliticsRe: Modular Refineries Can’t Refine Fuel Due To Price Regulation – NNPC by Alexgeneration(m): 2:45pm On Mar 05, 2022
backbencher:
Well, on another thread, someone commented that he bought fuel from 'illegal refinery' at a cost higher than N200.

Also government recogniton means that they have to adapt to the same standards, including environmental , to work well. Meaning they have to buy and build new facilities that meet the new standards, and maintain them, and those cost money. Meaning a rise in their cost of production, and a rise in fuel price.

(Or you want people to keep on having soot and pollution because 'cheap fuel'?)
Their fuel are extremely cheap. That's why some filling stations buy mostly from them and go to the depot to buy just some few trucks to dilute it and make maximum gains.

Yes,their recognition will call for improved standards but will not increase cost of production if the government is not selling the crude to them based on international rates.
PoliticsRe: Modular Refineries Can’t Refine Fuel Due To Price Regulation – NNPC by Alexgeneration(m): 2:38pm On Mar 05, 2022
HarryDuce:
Their fuel is relatively cheap because they steal the oil. If they're recognised and made to function legally, operation cost will rise.
You're making baseless assumptions. How do you know that operation cost will rise? Oh, you would want the government to sell the crude to them at the international rate, right?

Illicit methods, and even then, they don't sell fuel from those refineries at N162 per liter...they sell way above the price.

And yes, if government recognises them, they would have to upgrade the refineries, which costs more money, and which adds to their production cost, and sale price.
They sell their fuel very very cheap.

Government recognition will increase productivity and not sale price.

If you subsidies petrol from modular refineries, they would run at a loss.

Like now, assume it costs N362 to refine one liter of fuel in the modular refinery. Government comes in and tells that refinery to sell to the market at N152 per liter., pays a subsidy of N210 per liter to cover the loss.

Next year, costs go up to N462 at the refinery. Meanhwile, government revenue is not adequate enough because of our large populaiton. Would you support a rise in subsidy payments to keep the sale price at N152?

Or would you let the modular refinery make a profit by selling the fuel at N412 per liter to the market, and recoup its costs, and pay for expansion and upgrades?
Why would local modular refineries run at a loss when the foreign refineries are making huge profits from the same subsidy that the local refineries will be getting if they are subsidised?

Why would cost of production increase when they can use the subsidy to scale up their production by building more refineries?

What the NNPC boss is saying is simple.

Modular refineries can only work when government allows petrol to be sold at market price, otherwise they won't make enough of a profit to function well otherwise.
How does the boys in the creek produce and sell with profit?
