SportsRe: Should Gernot Rohr Continue As Super Eagles Coach? by alibiguy: 11:06am On Nov 15, 2020
OMONGBALI:
Baba, world cup qualification is not new to us. We have qualified for all editions since 1994, except in 2010. Rohr started well but we have not progressed much under him. He still has that team building vibes after these years.

He is tactically inept, and under him SE are not ambitious. There is no desire to do the spectacular. I repeat that he is average. NFF can get us a better coach if they are not obsessed with sharing formula. I don't have a replacement in mind but Rohr can't offer more than he has already given. We need fresh ideas and a coach with a stronger winning mentality. With a sound coach, we could have made the second round of the World cup at the expense of Argentina. And that semi final loss to Algeria, it didn't feel like we wanted to progress.
Please, stop comparing us with African countries that haven't gone to world cup. That's mediocrity mindset. We are the most populous black nation. We should have the highest talent pool. Compare us with Ghana and Senegal who have made it to the quarter final. We need to aspire for bigger things.
Excellent commentary. We missed out on the 2006 World Cup.

Balogun and Troos became the integral part of the team under rohr

Brought in more wingers in Chukweze, and Kali

More options in right and left full backs
I'm only stating a fact that Rohr wasn't responsible for their (Balogun under Keshi, and Troost under Oliseh) development in the national team. And as for Chukwueze and Kalu, any half-brained coach would still have brought them to the national team. Remember Chukwueze and Osimhen played under Amunike at the U17 in Chile in 2015.

Leon Balogun and Troost-Ekong made their debuts for the Super Eagles in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Rohr joined Nigeria in 2016.

Chukwueze and Kalu weren't part of the 2018 FIFA world cup qualifiers

Coaches make alterations to make teams better not worse.

NFF gave Siasia a free hand yet he couldn't qualify. The positive in the last game was that Eagles scored 4 goals something they ve not done in a long while.

You can bring in new players at any time into the team if the old players are not available or meeting your expectations.

Okocha's debut for Nigeria was in a world cup qualifier
I beg to differ on the issue of Siasia and other indigenous coaches. I still stand to be corrected, no local coach has been given the unalloyed support to succeed as the coach of the Super Eagles because if they got the support, we won't have Rohr. Remember that Samson Siasia wasn't the NFF's first choice, Keshi was; and what transpired with him (Siasia)? Your guess is as good as mine. Despite the challenges he still left us with a team that had capacity unlike Rohr who seems to me like one who doesn't understand his team.

You stated that Rohr qualified us with a game to spare and I asked if he infused any new blood into the team. The point I was trying to make is that there was a team ready for him to work with. The groundwork had been laid.

Third place at last Afcon
Qualified for Afcon (after back to back failed attempts) and World cup with a game to spare
The failed attempts happened more as a result of the NFF's wrangling with the technical crews at the time and not because of on-field issues. I'll buttress this point by asking you this: did Rohr bring in any new player during the 2018 FIFA world cup qualifiers?
SportsRe: Should Gernot Rohr Continue As Super Eagles Coach? by alibiguy: 6:39am On Nov 15, 2020
ServanTheG:
By reaching 3rd place at AFCON we have reached our peak under Rohr. If we continue it gets worse. Spurs reached CL final under Pochettino and still sacked him when things went bad despite how popular he was. Rohr has done his best,he lacks the mentality to lead the team. ROHR OUT
Kindly permit me to rephrase your opening sentence: Rohr has reached his peak with us. We've won the AFCON 3 times without him, and have been to the world cup 5 times previously before his advent. Rohr needs Nigeria more than Nigeria needs him.

Let him continue, Germany has been with loew for how many years now despite crashing out of first stage of last world cup.

The football world is just coming out of lockdown. Expect inconsistence results till 2021
But Loew earned his reprieve by winning the edition before last. What has Rohr done to earn his?
SportsRe: Should Gernot Rohr Continue As Super Eagles Coach? by alibiguy: 6:31am On Nov 15, 2020
I would emphatically reply, NO!
Rohr has continued to demonstrate a lack of tactical nous which makes him a misfit for a proud football playing nation as Nigeria. There is an evident lack of structure and competition in the national team; and this was displayed by the shambolic performance of last Friday. Those who saw Westerhof at work in Nigeria know that our football has taken a turn for the worst under Rohr.

Below are a list of results Rohr has earned against teams that previously Nigeria had never lost to, not even under our indigenous coaches:
Nigeria 0 - 2 South Africa
Nigeria 0 - 2 Madagascar

Sierra Leone has played out 3 draws with nigeria all in Freetown, but they made history by not losing in Nigeria for the first time.

“So, the President couldn’t have said anything because it would be premature and presumptuous while investigation is ongoing. It is after investigation has been concluded that he can speak on the matter.”

A brilliant decision by Sai Baba.
I beg to disagree. Was there a shooting? Were people injured? Yes, that has been confirmed without recourse to whodunit. That's what he should show empathy towards.

Let get something clear Mr Abdulkarim Kaita is not Alhaji Dangote and the problem of Tomato processing goes beyond that small plant at the outskirt of Kano. There is nothing wrong in demanding a ban on importation of Tomato but have we put the necessary tools in place to ensure tomatoes in our rural areas are converted to paste so as to increase their shelf life before getting to the main plants, do we have cottage processing unit in our local governments.I know the Chinese keep dumping on us but to be candid this is not the time or place for this now.
Erisco group was producing the paste but got no concession from govt. Hence, they left the country.

I know all this na talk. Micheal Laudrup was easily the best midfielder in Europe at the time. They also have that tall/long guy up front. Flo?
Nigeria was all skills while Denmark was technical, and clinical in front of goal not playing to the gallery.
A more technical team will win a skillful team in modern football.
Michael Laudrup was good, no doubt, but it was the indiscipline in the team that cost us the game. Remember that Denmark couldn't beat South Africa in the group stage. The match ended 1:1.

Tore Andre Flo is Norwegian.

He gave Ebbie sand that kilee pass and sand wasted no time in sending Taribo to the cleaners.

Taribo has just confirmed the rumours that filtered back home about the indiscipline in the Eagles camp at France 98. I remember a newspaper report that read that Pele sent two of our players, who were in the bar of their hotel at midnight, to their rooms. After learning of this, I switched off to safeguard my emotions and I wasn't disappointed. The Denmark captain, Michael Laudrup, then told Nigeria to learn to count one before four after the game.
SportsRe: Taribo: Super Eagles Players Slept With Women At France ’98 by alibiguy: 2:57pm On Apr 10, 2020
splashbaby:
Taribo was a big culprit during the match...The second goal and third was as a result of poor reaction and positioning...The 3rd goal was even more embarrassing,...Ebbe Sand practically sent Taribo the wrong way with a powerful head flick and slam the ball to bottom of the post...Totally embarrassing. Nigeria underrated the Danish team of that era, forgetting they won the Euro cup in 1995 beating the all mighty German machine team 2 Nill in the final. They were more than a decent team.

Correction:
The EURO CUP was in 1992
I beg to disagree. Taribo's crime was trying to do too much. He joined the attack as frequently as he could hence was remiss in his primary responsibility. It was his first world cup probably that was why. Also, the 'Gentle Giant' didn't offer him much cover.

Eguavoen actually fouled Antonio Benarrivo while Roberto Baggio converted the resulting penalty.

What then happens to pupils who are 'gifted'? Does this mean double promotions have been abolished? I am of the opinion that the state is making a mistake. For students who are immature after leaving secondary school have been unduly shielded. Even if a child finishes his secondary education at eighteen and has had a sheltered upbringing, he'd still act immature. Maturity has nothing to do with age but with values.

My own two bits.

where is Pogba?
Had Pogba played today, United would have lost their attacking intensity at crucial times in the game, and probably lost the game. He's more concerned about himself than he's about the team. Since Mctominay returned against Spurs, Fred has raised his game. Fred controlled most of United's play in the first half against City. He also worked hard on the left side of United's defence, helping out Luke Shaw.
