Nairaland business section is filled with samples and even testimonies of what a young man like you could do with that amount of money. Many threads exist that can help you discover your potential and also steer you in the direction of that business that best fits your abilities, personality and circumstances. I would like to however recommend that in view of the current economy and also considering your apparent inexperience as far as business goes your best bet would be something that is not so fixated that is flexible enough for you to divest with as little skirmishes as possible. The direction I would advise is in trade with more emphasis on distributorship. There are two threads you may wish to peruse on Nairaland business. Both are very practical and realistic. The one is the thread on egg distribution by Blackkie and the other is the FMCG thread by Karin001. While Blacckie advocates a smart neighbourhood distribution for eggs drawing directly from farms, Karin001 on the other hand advocates the registration of your interest as a distributor with a medium sized FMCG company and insisting on territorial exclusivity for a particular or designated sales area/zone. Now these models are tested and trusted as can be read from the many posters following the thread but they are definitely not foolproof. I am sure they will even have whatsapp groups for some of the businesses as is mostly the case in contemporary interaction. The most unique feature of these options is the fact that you can still trace your money (capital) because at every point in time it is either in stock or remittances. I am also not very comfortable with or even sure that the profit margin you seek(20%) is attainable from the very first month if you are dealing as a trader/Distributor. A monthly margin of 5-10% on commencement with a gradual growth to the desired margin and even more is more certain and realistic. Then again, I am not saying it is utterly impossible but I just prefer to align along the margin of caution. Finally, I will post a counter position to those who suggest that you don’t talk to people. It is essential that you speak to people who have some experience in the business area you are interested in. Very true that there will be many fraudsters prowling along trying to do others in but one very important consideration for you is that the best advice will come amongst the fraudulent ones so it is thus your discernment that you will employ in choosing that which is most suitable for you. Do enjoy your search. |

I am not one to comment on religious matters but for some reason the self-inflicted anguish of this mother who is like a baby herself got to me. The only picture that comes before me is the question; "What would Jesus do?" A quick reference to the story about the lady who was brought before the Lord Christ on allegations of infidelity comes to mind. That scene has been beautifully captured in celluloid. And His response is classic "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Lady, you do not need the church. It is the church that needs you. It cannot survive without you. The day your many years of distorted programming gives way to the Truth, you will be set free indeed. |
I may also be able to provide a bit of guidance to a few others who may have idle cash with a desire to make short term investments not exceeding three cycles of 90 days each. Minimum amount is 2.5 Mill while Maximum is 15 Million. Please note this a pro bono service and I am by no means obligated to undertake every ones request but only the ones I consider serious. I am also not interested in physical meetings but I will provide the recommendation, guidance and even contacts of important and necessary links on the chain. Of course you will have to do your own back up investigations even though that would have been done by my team already. I am however open to a ppreciation at the tail end of the transaction. This will only be a limited offer. Emails to: vikbiz2011@gmail.com |
So many suggestions; some of them rather fantastic and impracticable while others are just outright preposterous. There are however some that could work for a certain kind of investor. The chicken supply business is a quite a good one but with the amount of capital at stake I really wonder if it wouldn’t be an overkill. Its a bit pedestrian. I do not see the possibility of the ROI on that business being up to 300,000 monthly because first of all there are intricacies in the business that are even obvious to the bystander including but not limited to the fact that OP must create a market for the product and also source the right birds at the right price before he can even start. He must also invest his money in equipment and logistics and drawing from my professional experience, I can assume that OP is not interested in a fixed investment. He would rather invest his money where he is at liberty to withdraw it IN FULL within a short period of time. He is just looking for where to put his money that is safe and yet gives him returns without his direct involvement. He probably has something else he is doing on a full time basis. Many opportunities exist in this regard even here in Nigeria. I am available to make one or two suggestions to the OP and it will be at no cost whatsoever. This guidance will however limited to an email exchange and that is all. |

Hello all, I have been following this thread from the beginning. I suppose I should say something. I am not a young person by whatever standard. I am however a beneficiary of the new age media. I was a daily(sometimes twice daily) guest to Nairaland for many years while sojourning out of these shores. On my return I registered as a member and I can testify that I have benefitted immensely from this platform. As a matter of fact it is my first port of call for anything I desire to do especially business wise. I am also very quick at recommending the platform and its various threads to my contemporaries who may need information from time to time. Recently, a bosom friend of mine who works for one of the paramilitary agencies was appointed to take over the administration of the ‘Supporting capital’ of the agency and under his command came the purchase and management of dogs. Now I understand that in their department dog purchasing is usually long drawn process and it involves a lot of money. We discussed it at length and I recommended that he visit the pet section of Nairaland. He complied and kept visiting as a guest. I was shocked when he called me a few weeks ago and referred me to this thread. I read through it and it really turned my stomach. It is so very sad. I kept hanging on hoping that the tide would change and things would be alright but sadly this was not to be. Bobby was the man for him. He was to be his procuring consultant as he didn’t want to deal with anyone in-house. That matter has now been abandoned and he has taken solace in a vet who plies his trade in Abuja. Never before have I seen this wanton display of gargantuan ignorance and crass stupidity. The arrogance and conceit as expressed in the very unintelligent positions and delivered with such bad grammar is enough to put anyone off. It took this breeder several years to build a reputation on this platform and yet it takes one thread and three months to bring that reputation to shards. The long term loss implications of this are better left unimagined. It is amazing that the approach to this issue has implications that go way beyond millions of Naira. The standard and contemporary reaction to this issue would have resulted in a wonderful experience for the breeder and his followers. All he needed to do was handle it better than what he did now and that would have been it. The buyer for me acted like a gentleman. He was even cautious in his delivery. The arrogance of the breeder go th netter of him. Even then, at some point he ignored the thread and swallowed his loss and gained experience probably never to buy via Nairaland again. So you see the implications go far beyond Bobby and the pets section. That man will find it difficult to buy elsewhere on Nairaland unless of course a pay on delivery option is on the cards. Summarily, we must all learn from this episode for we are all experiencing. It’s a bit too late in the day for Bobby to correct the impression he has created about him and his business but I tell you that there is so much potency in that saying; stoop to conquer. Merry Christmas everybody. |

eezeribe:What is the weight of the kilishi? Where (State/City) is it made or packaged? What delivery options are available? What ate the prices; recommended retail and wholesale? Are there any territorial rights? Eezeribe, are you the direct producer or a representative? If yes kindly educate me on the sealing process and machinery. I intend to give some steam to this FMCG business next year and repackaging is a mid term possibility while outright manufacturing is the long term plan. Thanks. Pardon me for derailing the thread Madam Karin, but this appears interesting? |
Karin, whats happenin? Please update. It has gotten really interesting. I have observed that there are very few comments coming from other posters. I am not much of a writer but my observation on mairaland is that frequent posts and comments may constitute some form of encouragement especially for the op. Please read and comment. |

lexaydfg:Karin and all, Good day to you. I must say that I am a bit disappointed with the goings on here. OP has invested so much in this project without seeking any personal benefit. I just find this our inaction distasteful. I seek your permission Karin to set up some people as distributors of the doughnuts in an area of my choice. I will pay for their orders and have them supplied. I will supervise them and help them grow via sponsorship and I will report to the house in respect of their progress in the trade. In the meantime, can some one provide the phone numbers of the producers? I need to take the bull by the horns. |
Karin001:Well, you are really a blessing to many people out here. There is a lady living close to my favourite aunt some where around Ogba. She is a very happy forward looking girl and her disposition is super despite all odds. She frequently visits and helps my 64 year old aunt without as much as hinting at a reward. She also rebuffs my offers and compensation. I tried getting her a job with my firm but ot hasnt materialized just yet. On my last visit to the neighbourhood, I met her with my aunt and showed her this thread. She lit up completely. Through my my aunt she was persuaded to collect 20,000 from me as a loan. She invested in chin-chin cakes and doughnuts and she is quite happy with her performance so far in less than a week. In fact, I just verified that she bought 10 bags today. I understand that the company delivers to her right home now so her profits are wholesome. Her name is Wunmi. The problem is that I don't know which company delivers to her and at what price. But it appears Karin knows which one of them it is. This post is just to say a big thank you to karin001. We have started winning. I am so happy for all who will muster the effort to benefit from the nuggets on this thread. My appreciation also goes to the other contributors who made very strengthening contributions to the success of the thread. This is for real. And by the way, Karin my offer still stands. I am still very interested in helping, but serious persons only. By the way Karin001 didnt flout any laws or rules guiding this project. If I did, do accept my apologies. |
Very smart observations and equally apt responses. I check this thread every hour. Thats the level of my addiction. Great things will emanate from here if we can sustain this momentum. Great work guys and happy independence day. Latestarter, please get on the thread. I need to hear from you. Rose75, thanks for your objectivity. Very unbiased outlook. Nutrientrich, c an you please explain? Karin, whats up? Get on the thread and provide some guidance. |
Bionica:Bionica, I didn't run at all. The woman is too much. But she is a rare specie like you rightly pointed out. I am still available to help based on her recommendations. Thanks for helping the guy up there. Lets hope he uses the opportunity well. |
Super!!!!!!!!! This man, for a late starter you are just too much. You are a rocket almost ready to takeoff. I feel for those who stand in your way. I have read all out posts twice on this thread. You are just too much. I am comitted to reading all your posts including the one that will highlight your triumphs and victories. You probably will do better than the rest. Very practical, well thought out, modest, mature and experienced presentations. Bravo Sir and good luck |

estwhile:Can you cover this entire area? It appears quite large to me. Yes, maybe a car could make things easier but I think what Lady Karine wants is a detailed door to door sales approach. Think about it. I understand that the bigger your territory the better for you but it will be a lot of hard work. BTW how many public schools do you have in that neighbourhood and how big are they? |
Karin, I hope you will understand my badgering you this much but you did request for contributions. I am of the opinion that you should give some thought to the chin-chin or any other product that you have sold with some measure of success. It will be easier for you to provide guidance based on your experience. While I agree that it is inarguable that you are a successful sales and marketing person and you probably can sell just about anything to anybody, that is only possible because you have intact references (you taught us this earlier, I honestly never knew about this). The most significant lesson so far for me on this thread is the post on small wins. That post is the game changer for all sales people. Little wins growing into big wins. Nothing could be more inspiring. This is the substance of success. Little wins creating a strong base for hope faith and motivation to do bigger things in the future. Thanks very much Karin for this piece. Back to my preference for chin-chin. You have excelled in the distribution of this product. You have done it in Lagos and Port Harcourt successfully. You already know the product well, you know the market well and I daresay that you know the company well. Very few surprises can thus spring forth. It appears that your choice of another product was anchored in your desiring an objectivity and level playing ground. This also made you limit the number of participants to just 20 which is a manageable size. My advice is that you should stick with the devil you know and have conquered. Your protégées’ will benefit more and faster. With this as your approach you can even incorporate more people and achieve more success by expanding in terms of geography. Other people in large and smaller cities will also benefit from your experience. You really cannot go wrong with this method. Give it some thought and consider it as a my very humble and modest contribution. This is not self-serving. I am not an intending participant but just an observer cum supporter of this exercise. Wishing you all the very best. |
