Onitsha sex market
•Pregnant women, mothers & daughters involved
From ALOYSIUS ATTAH
Sunday, November 20, 2011

It was a Sunday evening, a supposedly holy day for Christians. Traditionally, the major markets are closed in Onitsha, the commercial capital of Anambra State in South East Nigeria, and it is either a visiting day for the city dwellers or time to attend town union meetings. It is also a day to unwind at the various drinking joints.

Time was 6:45pm and this reporter was at the Lagos Park bypass near the Chisco Park to investigate an already conceived script from enquiries about some areas of the city, inhabited by women of easy virtue.
Dusk was gradually kissing the day goodbye and the area was bustling with a flurry of activities. Commercial cyclists (Okada) and motorists honked their horns while music blasted from the loud speakers of a nearby record store. Everyone seemed in a hurry either to get home or to complete other tasks before nightfall.

Travellers were boarding the night buses to Lagos even as motor park touts scouted for more passengers. This reporter sat on a plastic chair at Mama Nkechi’s kiosk where the middle-aged woman sold all kinds of spirits, local concoctions, kola and gin after getting her permission under the pretence that I was waiting for a brother traveling to Lagos that night.

https://www.sunnewsonline.com/images/onitsha.gif

While fiddling with my phone, the reporter’s “third” eye was also fixed on an unfolding scene nearby. Two young ladies clutching leather handbags and another black polythene bag popularly known as ‘walkie-talkie’ suddenly appeared from the opposite direction, near the Chisco Park toilet. They briefly exchanged pleasantries, scanned the environment and walked towards a lock-up stall painted in a popular noodles wrapper’s colour and began fiddling with their phones. Soon after, other ladies joined them.
From the entrance of the bypass to the end connecting the flyover and Port Harcourt Road, commercial sex workers in different sizes, colours and shapes beckon to male passers-by, soliciting patronage. Dressed in the most provocative wears, they chorus: “Fine man, I will do you fine oh”; “Brother, you will like my service”; as well as other seductive and amorous clichés.

“We have our oga (boss) here, who supervises what we do. He is the one who supplies us condoms through one of his friends, who is a medicine dealer at the Onitsha Bridge Head Market. We also pay him a certain stipend at the end of the day. A round of sex here is N300 but sometimes we reduce the amount if the person is stingy.”
Sunday Sun also learnt that the proprietor of the sex business has private rooms within the park that serve those who do not want to share the sex tent with others. A private room for ‘short time’ costs N700.

PoliticsThe Igbo Still Remember How Awo Foiled Their Biafra Dream--Alaafin by aloyemeka4(op): 7:31pm On Nov 20, 2011
Pan-Yoruba conference update: The Alaafin, Stakeholders’ pains
on NOVEMBER 20, 2011 · in INTERVIEW

By BASHIR ADEFAKA

The Yoruba nation is in search of unity amid concerns that a section of the people that matter in the in quest to move the race forward is being left out

The first pan-Yoruba conference, held at Ikenne,Ogun State, on Thursday, October 6, has come and gone but the fall-out from that supposedly first-of-its-kind meeting, aimed at charting the way forward for the Yoruba race, remains an issue.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, was conspicuously absent at the meeting which the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, convened with the matriarch of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo dynasty, Mama H.I.D. Awolowo and first elected governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, who were visibly seated on the high table.

Though the conference held, it couild not be said to be a total success due to what people like the Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, and many of the traditional rulers present blamed on the Alaafin’s absence.

https://vml1.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Alaafin-of-Oyo.jpg
Oba Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo
“Without the Alaafin on seat,” Adebanjo said, “nothing can be said to have been done. Before we can say this meeting is a success, no Yoruba son must be left out.”

The Alaafin said that Yoruba race would not get anywhere so long as its leadership control was placed in the hands of sitting public officers or politicians, who, he said, had always ceased to function after their tenures of office and thus disappeared.

Former Military Governor of the defunct Western Region, Major General Adeyinka Adebayo, corroborated the Alaafin’s position in an interview with Sunday Vanguard during which the President of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) said the Yoruba problem was not disunity per se but political.

The Alaafin said: “What I am saying is that the Yoruba should resuscitate its own pressure group to meet the challenges of national exigencies. To me, the institution of traditional rulership around should be an agency for uniting rather than dividing the political class, which is what the Obas are doing now.

“Do they want to say Yorubas in other political parties are not leaders in their own rights? What of other political office holders like Yoruba members of the National Assembly?”

It also disturbed the mind of the sole custodian of the customs and traditions of Oyo Empire that Yorubas were not utilizing their human resources well.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo became acceptable as Yoruba leader long after his time as premier of Western Region and that it was about that time or thereafter he was picked into the General Yakubu Gowon’s Federal Military Government as Federal Commissioner for Finance, where, seeing himself as representing the Yoruba at the Federal service, he caused his performance to beat the imagination of many people, nationally and internationally.

The Igbo, it was said, still remember Awolowo’s role in how they failed to secede into the Republic of Biafra. That was the typical Yoruba leadership being talked about and a return to that age in the race’s forward-match process, the Alaafin of Oyo said, would help in quick arrival.

“In the 1967 experience, the Obas worked assiduously in bringing all the warring political interests together, especially against the backdrop of the rancour between the Action Group and the NCNC. But what do we have today? Obas and governors alone charting a course for the Yoruba. We have to look beyond transient position holders,” said Alaafin before the October 6 Ikenne conference.

Why Nigerians love to celebrate the past beats me. Why celebrate two men who are likely not to outlive the next decade?. Soyinka already said it before that he is handing over to the younger generation. Achebe asked the Younger Nigerians to occupy Abuja and take over their country from old people like him even before the Occupy protests began.
Why not put our energy in likely new geniuses from our generation instead of eternally celebrating 2 people? Are you people not ashamed of unaself?. If that is the case, the Germans/Americans should forever talk about Einstein without making further effort towards achieving something. This Achebe/Soyinka thing is becoming embarrassing for real.

Good post. 2 things. Don't listen to those who suddenly see the Yorubas as one entity. THis is just to allow their misguidance to continue. When Muslims are being condemned for some imaginary ills, they don't distinguish between Yorubas and others.
Second, can you please give some specific guidance on this matter?
You just confirmed what I've been suspecting all along. The Yoruba muslims are liberal and accepting because they are outnumbered by Christians. If it is the other way round, they would have made us understand that we are not one entity and if we object, massacring will follow.

Are muslim men really smarter than the women?. When will this injustice against muslim women stop or are you men waiting for women to carry placards and demand acceptance into the ulama caucus?.

2) Also, why is it that middle eastern muslims consider ulamas from the western world as fake?

Quranic laws are brutal and archaic. Stonings, floggings, removal of body parts, slavery, genocide, pogroms,  subjugation of women, racism etc. These are all encouraged and justified as 'Allah's law in the Qur'an and  Hadith. Don't you think that when muslims base their beliefs on ancient and outdated scripture, they are buying into a social structure that was developed by primitive, frightened, and particularly brutal people?.

Just out of morbid curiousity then, why do you consider yourself a Muslim? There are a lot of varying beliefs within Islam, but believing in the Qur'an is pretty bare minimum default. Why not just consider yourself Islamic agnostic since the existence of Allah is serious in question? It seems to me that shias believe in Allah, but not necessarily the Allah explained in the Qur'an sunnis read.

According to sources, the melodrama started when Foluke wanted to quit as Otunba's domestic servant. It was then she was accused of stealing N300, 000 at the first instance. Later the amount was raised to N350, 000 and then to N8 million.

We were told that Foluke has been tortured in detention. A series of searches was conducted on her bags and room and no money or jewelry was found.

British gay Muslims seek Islamic weddings

By Adrian Goldberg
Presenter, 5 live Investigates

British gay Muslims are joining the global fight for equality and seeking gay Islamic marriage. The BBC's 5 live Investigates speaks to one couple about their 'nikah' - a Muslim matrimonial contract - and asks how they balance their sexuality with the Islamic faith.

https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/49632000/jpg/_49632218_indranilmukherjeeafpgettyimages.jpg
Like many gay people, British gay Muslims are pursuing marriage

"We met about three years ago, at an iftar - a breaking of fast during Ramadan.

"I think a lot of Muslims find that time of year very spiritual and very enlightening, and so I think that's why our relationship developed, because we spoke about our faith."

"Eventually we went on a date."

Asra recalls the first time she met her partner, Sarah, three years ago. The gay couple, who are also Muslim, are one of a growing number of gay, British Muslims who have cemented their relationship with marriage - Islamic marriage.

Asra fondly remembers the moment Sarah proposed to her.

"After the first date, which was about an hour, Sarah casually asked me to marry her."

Sarah interjects.

"I think it was more like four hours, after dinner, coffee and walking. I didn't really plan it, but it just really seemed like the way it was between us, I should try and keep it as pure as possible.

"That may sound strange being lesbians, but it felt like we should do it the most honourable way we could."

The Muslim way
Asra and Sarah decided upon a 'nikah' - a Muslim matrimonial contract. Whilst nikahs have traditionally been the reserve of heterosexual Muslims, Asra and Sarah were aware that other gay Muslims had followed this route and the couple decided to investigate further.

Why are Christians so notorious in sinning throughout the world?  What is the real secret behind it?

As the latest devastating and quite embarrassing reality check study about premarital sex in the United States of America have revealed, 95% of all Americans had premarital sex!  Now of course, one must take into consideration that out of the 250 million Americans, there are around 12 to 15 million Muslims, which puts them around the 5% percentile.  This means that almost 100% of the Jews and Christians in the US Were Intimate before marriage!

So why is that?  What is it about Christians that makes them so noticeably attracted to Indecency, sex, sodomy, homosexuality, lust, drugs, alcohol (thousands die from fatal "drinking and driving" accidents every year), bikinis where 99% of the woman's unclothedness is fully exposed, inappropriate clothes, immoral TV and media (their white and black-race music is all about love and sex), violence, gangs, thugs and so on?  Why is it that where ever there are Christian dominated societies, these evil things are always at their PRIME?

I've debated Christians long and hard on this subject before, and even demonstrated to them that their bible sings praises and glories about women's vaginas and bosoms tasting like "wine", hence it is a book that promotes Indecency, but they still insist that Christianity does not promote these things and that it is man that always falls short from the Glory and Will of GOD Almighty.  But non-Christians throughout history and throughout the world, including pagans, all combined aren't even close to the Christians when it comes to these evil things!!  And in Islam, we don't really fall that short from the Glory and Will of GOD Almighty.  A Muslim who lives in an Islamic atmosphere is completely ignorant about these things!
I feel you and to buttress your point. The picture below is that of christians happily displaying their homosexuality.

This aloy is not ready to learn and i see her as a jester, talking for talking sake. Have she ever been to Osun State before, Saying there are more christain population in Osun.
Do you have the population of muslims in Osun?.I guess you don't. The great Olabowale of Nairaland once claimed that there are more 60% and 40% christians in the entire Yorubaland. You and I know his claim is ridiculous and the least you can do is to stop propagating those lies.

olawalebab:
/Moreover, what has wearing hijab got to do with hindering of teaching? this is a case of over zealous school administrators as Ola said. the 'people of the book' have a way of using the media to cause havoc, mayhem among the people. Aloy is a good example of them.
It will distract students who actually came to study. I understand that muslims don't take school seriously because it is WESTERN and the only education they take seriously is Islamic studies. Good for them is all I can say.  Thats why poverty and illiteracy is highest among muslim communities in Nigeria. If you can say the truth, compare Yoruba muslims with Yoruba christians in terms of academics, business, middle class homes, etc and the truth should open your eyes.

The picture below is that of a muslim girl who is allowed to wear hijab in a French school. You see what they do under the radar?. I don't know about you but I don't want my little nieces, sisters, etc  to dress that way.

ola_pluto:
The issue of hijab in Iwo concerns many things. It is a problem that has been coming  for a long time. I will try to set the scene as honest as I can.
Iwo has a majority Muslim population. In fact, Iwo is ranked top on the list of Yoruba towns with a love for the Quran. However, the Islam of love practised by our ancestors in Iwo seems to have been taken advantage of.
I start with Bowen University (formerly Anglican Teachers College or something like that). When the Anglicans came, the Imams in Iwo and our fathers gave them land free of charge. They even brought teachers and most of the teachers live in free houses. However, as typical of Christians crusaders, they started to steal land by dubious means.  Bowen University keeps expanding on lands donated by Muslims, yet Islam is not formally allowed to be practised in the uni. The traditional council of Iwo and Oluponna both are worried by this blatant robbery by Bowen university. I was lucky to be in one of these meetings early this year. The people are not happy, but this is probably an issue for the near future.
In the secondary and primary schools, I will boldly say that the use of Ijab by school children is nothing new in Iwo and Oluponna. My family attend these schools. Baptist, St Paul, St Peter etc, all have majority Muslim students. The indigenous christians have always lived in respect for the Muslim tradition of Iwo and its surroundings. In fact, there is a christian Oba who attends Muslim functions such as Eid prayers. Such is the love between indigenous Muslims and Christians. I myself am a blend of the two sides. We do not differentiate.
However, there seem to be more overzealous school administrators posted to Iwo region. They are highly discriminatory against Muslims. I trust my people to be very peaceful, but they will also fight for their rights anyday. And you people will be surprised that there will be Christians joining the fight for Ijab in these schools. Iwo is one unique place where you can have a christian father and Muslim daughter. I hope the government can put the situation under calm. Chief Imam of Iwo land is a very peaceful man. Same as Oluponna, Kuta and environs. However , I think the people deserve to be respected.
Stop your propaganda against BOWEN university please, If you have beef with them or may be they denied you admission, please go and resolve it with them instead of spreading lies here. All the missionaries in Nigeria received free land because they bring hospitals and schools with them. Stop claiming that you gave them stuff free as if other communities made them pay for it. Aren't you impressed at least that they asked for a piece of land so they can build infrastructures for your community free of charge. If Uthman Dan Fodio needed land, he will enter the community, massacre them and take over their land. He didn't have to beg for it like Christian missionaries because he ruled by terror. That's what Muhammad taught him. In their world, Jesus is a wimp.

Chai your comprehension faculty baffles me and trying to justify the action of that police is pretty lame, Anglicans, CAC, Redeem etc are all protestant churches.

Do you know that a mosque is currently being erected in the CBN (kwara state) but there's no provision of such for the christian workers. Where's the equity?, This is the reason why governance should'nt be mixed with religion in the first place.
No I understand what he is saying. It's like the law only allow one church in govt facilities and that church should be shared by all the big names within the protestant family. That way, we will not have hundreds of churches lined up govt facilities. My suggestion is to close down all mosques and churches in govt facilities except the tertiary institutions.

LagosShia:
firstly osun state is a majority muslim state.
Lies, Iwo is not equivalent to Osun state. Islamic presence in Osun is limited to a max of of 3% and majority of them are nominal and hypocritical at best. By that I mean that if the breeze blows hard, they will deny Muhammad in a jiffy.

LagosShia:
secondly hijab does not obstruct or contradict uniform.it is a moral dress code that compliments any uniform for girls .
Are you really trying to argue this?. If every girl in the school is allowed to put something on their head based on traditional, ethnic or religious belief, then our schools will be flooded with color riot. Their school clothes is called "uniform" for a reason.

LagosShia:
thirdly, you should not be complaining about "islamization of osun schools".the title of the thread (i.e. the topic) is deceiving.the problem here is not hijab but christian persecution of muslim students.you should be complaining about christianization of schools in osun and missionary activities there.
You are joking right?. Can you list at least 10 schools or hospitals built by Islamic missionaries in Southwestern Nigeria[not only Osun state o]?. So our Christian brethren from afar built schools and hospitals only for muslims to come and lay claim to them?. Okay, I forgot that western education is a sin according to the book of Boko Haram 5 vs 3.

LagosShia:
fourthly, you have in osun a christian missionary teacher flogging a muslim student over hijab while another teacher reported a muslim student to the police for the same hijab.this is religious persecution against muslims.the government should brought both the teachers and the police officer to the law.
Did y'all complain to the govt before mugging the teacher?. I wish olufunke who was murdered in Gombe for desecrating a quran before her students got a chance to be reprimanded by the govt, rather her head was chopped off simply to send a message to other christians that the blood of Dan Fodio[The first vampire missionary to invade Nigeria] is still flowing in their veins.

LagosShia:
fifthly, these schools are government schools.they are for all nigerians be they muslims or christians.and freedom of religion is guarateed.
Isn't that why I suggested that muslims should limit their religious practices to their mosques ajnd homes.

LagosShia:
sixthly, people keep saying how yoruba muslims are tolerant and peaceful.yet we have christian extremists reward their peaceful nature with hate and provocation.
Are you suggesting that Yoruba Christians are intolerant and violent?. Are you kidding me?. Yoruba muslims came into play when compared to the firebrand Northern shia muslims.

LagosShia:
seventhly, must you be always feel threatened at the sight of muslims even peaceful ones practicing their faith?recently it was islamic banking that brought out christian fanaticism, now it is hijab in a majority muslim yoruba state.it shows that you do not tolerate anything islamic.it is time the yoruba muslims realize what the Quran says in one context:"the jews and the christians would never be pleased with you (muslims) until you follow their way".the fanatical christians in nigeria are showing exactly that.they display ignorance about islam and they are very intolerant and brainwashed and hateful too.
To be HONEST, Christians don't give a rats behind about Islam. Unlike Islam that recognized Christianity, Christianity does not RECOGNIZE ISLAM or Muhammad. There is no place in the bible where Muhammad is mentioned. Christians actually believe that Muhammad may be a demon possessed paedophile who succeeded in brainwashing millions of followers around the world.  So, it means that over 90% of Nigerian Christians have neither opened a quran nor read one. Why then should they have complex issues about something they don't CARE if it exists?. Their only problem is using their funds to implement Islamic agenda. The muslims can floatt a bank for all I care but let the CBN/Nigerian govt desist from using general funds to foster an Islamic agenda.
You muslims all over don't get it why?. Why is it difficult for you guys that some people likes their privacy and will not appreciate being disturbed by another religion?. Did you see Oyedepo or Fr Edeh seek for FG fund to build universities?. We don't care as long as they use their resources to do it but Muslims will like to attach their agenda to the govt and solicit for state help before they can finish a project. In other words, forcing the govt to use taxes that are contributed by non compliant Christians or maharajians or Oluma olumbans to foster Islamic agenda. KEEP YOUR DOGGONE RELIGION TO YOURSELF,BRO. IS THAT TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?. YOU CAN WORSHIP A CELLPHONE IF YOU LIKE BUT KEEP IT TO YOURSELF AND NEITHER THROW THE CELLPHONE AT ME NOR MAKE ME PAY FOR   IT. GETTIT NOW?

eigthly,no one here is forcing christian students to wear hijab.so why deprive muslims from practicing their faith?who is violating whose right here?
When the schools are allowed to wear those, it scuttles their uniform code. Will they take it off when they want to do physical education?.
Same thing you guys tried in France and its now banned and even Tunisia which is a muslim country banned hijab. So why in the world should Osun state adopt that nonsense?. Are we in the 18th century?

LagosShia:
firstly osun state is a majority muslim state.

GETTIT NOW?

@aloy

The church is not meant to bear redeemed, it will be a protestant church that will be used by all protestants, if you have ever visited any of them, that is what they have, no anglican, no redeemed, no winners, laws are meant to be followed jare.

True but sad.

So many traditions that we were born into are not biblical.

One thing I like about we Christians is that we have the freedom to question these sorts of non-biblical practises.
Gbam, unlike Islam where you may be beheaded for questioning the words of Muhammad.
