Osun is approximately 4% muslim and 90% Christian, so why should the minority muslims impose hijab on us?. If those girls wants to wear hijab to school, they can enroll in Islamic schools.

THE struggle over the usage of hijab (veil for Muslim ladies) in public schools has led to the closure of public schools in Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State.

The quest to implement the usage of hijab created crisis in the town, as some Muslim groups insisted that all Muslim ladies should be allowed to use hijab, irrespective of the school they were attending.

The problem started last year, when a female student of Methodist Grammar School, Iwo, wore hijab to school.

The student was said to have been beaten by her teacher, while she, in turn, mobilised her brothers to waylay the teacher and beat her.

Muslim Fellowship Students were said to have championed the demand for female Muslim students to use hijab.

The agitation for the use of the hijab got to a climax on Monday, when a female student of Baptist High School, Iwo, was arrested by the police on the orders of the school authorities for wearing hijab to school.

The action of the school authorities was said to have angered Muslim organisations in the town, who waded into the matter and demanded the release of the student.

This is just as they mobilised students in the town, on Tuesday, to insist on allowing Muslim girls to use hijab, irrespective of the school they attended.

The protest was said to have received the support of the leader of Jamat Tahawum, known as Alfa Dawud, who led the students on a protest which took them from one school to the other, starting from Local Authority Grammar School to Saint Anthony Grammar School; Methodist Grammar School and Iwo Grammar School.

The protest forced the school authorities to close down the schools, while the students were sent home.

Reacting to the development, through a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere, the state government said it decided to close down all the public schools in the council to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The statement said the state was noted for peace and the state government would not allow any religious bigot to turn it into a place of religious intolerance.

Friends and family cry foul over false accusation and detention. Another story from Encomium magazine. Read below,
One of the domestic staffers of Otunba Ayora Bola Kuforiji Olubi, (Former minister and first woman chartered accountant in Nigeria) 23yr old Foluke Adeyemi, is in police net for an alleged theft of N8million and a collection of jewelry belonging to her boss. Olubi was said to have ordered the arrest and detention of Foluke three weeks ago after accusing her of the offense. The said Folake is now at Nigeria Police Force State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
More after the jump,

According to Mrs Kuforiji-Olubi: She is the only who has access to items declared missing.". However, those who privy to happenstances at the Otunba's Apapa household insist Foluke was unjustly accused and the lady, who had been working for Otunba for over two years, has been languishing in detention for more than the stipulated 48 hours.

All spirited efforts at securing her bail was frustrated. At some point, Folake was said to have contemplated suicide. Insiders claim Foluke is innocent of the matter.

According to sources, the melodrama started when Foluke wanted to quit as Otunba's domestic servant. It was then she was accused of stealing N300, 000 at the first instance. Later the amount was raised to N350, 000 and then to N8 million.

We were told that Foluke has been tortured in detention. A series of searches was conducted on her bags and room and no money or jewelry was found.

I wonder how they figured out her exact age. My Great grandmother also lived to around this woman's age. She was somewhere in the 100s but we couldn't exactly find her birthday because back when she was born people didn't keep records. She said the same thing as this woman.

"All you need to do for a long life is work, pray, and be happy."
They tell events in history and from that, one can guess their age. It is like a young girl who told you she was little during the gulf war, you can easily guess her age from that fact. May be the woman successfully told the story of world war I or how Mary Slessor used to bring her wrapper and akwette.

Just heard on NTA that the murdering muthafukers have been caught. The ring-leader was said to have confessed, and is someone she actually knew and employed (a car-washer), but who "developed hatred for her" after having bashed her car and she asked him to fix it.

Honestly, the evil and wickedness in peoples hearts is so astounding shocked. How can you kill a young woman in cold blood (no matter kind of the beaf you have with her), not thinking of the grief you'll cause to her loved ones, and your final day of reckoning b/4 God?

They need to execute all involved when found guilty.
That's what poverty can make people do. Do you know what the car washer went through to fix that car?. That even embittered him especially when he believes that the cost to fix that vehicle is a change to her. What they did is evil but it is always better to be nice to people because one act of unkindness can push them over the edge.

…Still loves to cook her meals and washes plates Says: 'If you work hard, you'll live long”

https://www.nationaldailyngr.com/images/stories/2cv.jpg

AT 120, an Anambra State Community leader, Madam Ekusuma Odimegwu, might just be the oldest Nigerian, alive; Who knows?
Even at that age, she still loves cooking her meals and washing her plates. Something spectacular about her is that she hates people dying young. This is because she feels longetivity “is ordained of God.”

No wonder, her own mother died at a much older age, while her husband passed away at age 103.

Ask Madam Ekusuma what is the secret of her old age and she would readily tell you: “it is hard work.”

Similarly, she regards “adherence to God's instructions,” as another contributory factor to her long life.

Madam Ekusuma spoke with National Daily through her grandson, Chemezie Odimegwu.

Interacting with he lively old woman, who relishes telling stories in connection with the years gone by, was a most interesting experience.

Hers was wisdom par excellence. Imagine her saying 'if people die old, it will have positive impact on the nation's economy and development.”

In her younger days, both Madam Ekusuma and her late husband were into palm kernel business that involved processing the kernel fruit and selling the produce.

“Life in our days was a little interesting. It is interesting when you understand the values of family bond and tradition. A lot has changed; we have larger families now that are separated from each other. The painful part is the distance that must exist among the family members, these days.

“Those days, we did everything together as a family. My husband climbs the tree to get palm kernel and the children and I get busy with the processing, which of course is supervised by my husband; after that I get to do the trading of the various produce made out of it.

PoliticsCourt Orders FG To Pay El-rufai ₦1m For Passport Seizure by aloyemeka4(op): 9:56pm On Nov 16, 2011
Court orders government to pay el-Rufai ₦1m for passport seizure

A Federal High Court in Abuja, Tuesday, ordered the federal government to pay the former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir el-Rufai, ₦1 million for deliberately refusing to renew his international passport in 2009.

Delivering judgment on a suit filed before the court by the ex-minister, with a view to enforcing his fundamental rights, Justice Abdul Kafarati said the government was unable to show any verifiable reason the plaintiff’s international passport was not renewed as he had requested via an application.

Consequently, Justice Kafarati awarded ₦1 million as general damages against the government, stressing that the action meted against the plaintiff was purely discriminatory.

Mr el-Rufai had listed the minister of Interior, comptroller general of Nigeria Immigration Service, director general of National Intelligence Agency and attorney general of the federation as defendants in the suit.

He specifically asked the court via an ex-parte application, to make an order granting him leave to apply for the enforcement of his fundamental rights to personal liberty, freedom of movement, freedom of expression and freedom from discrimination guaranteed under Chapter Four of the 1999 Constitution.

In the ex-parte application filed by Mr A. U. Mustapha, el-Rufai sought for seven principal reliefs, which were challenged by the respondents, who pleaded the court to dismiss the case for being incompetent.

The respondents equally argued that the suit constituted an abuse of court process, contending that it ought to have been brought by way of motion on notice.

However, Justice Kafarati, in his judgment yesterday, noted that the attorney general, being the chief law officer of the country was joined in the matter, as a necessary party, even as he certified the suit as competent.

He said: “I found no merit in their objections and, therefore, strike them out. I have gone through the applicant’s application and concluded that he deserved to be granted this application.”

CrimeFarmer Impregnates Daughter by aloyemeka4(op): 9:49pm On Nov 16, 2011
Incest: Court Sends Lekki Farmer To Jail

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, southwest Nigeria this morning ordered that a Lekki farmer, Yesiru Onajobi who impregnated his daughter should be transferred from the custody of the National Agency For the Prohibition Of Trafficking In Persons, NAPTIP, to Ikoyi Prisons.
Justice Pat Ajoku issued the order sequel to the request of the NAPTIP prosecuting counsel, Barrister Olurotimi Ilori, that the suspect should be transferred to Ikoyi Prisons.
The counsel complained that apart from feeding the farmer, Onajobi has become a burden to the NAPTIP.
Ilori said the farmer is the only one in the NAPTIP custody. Therefore, arrangement has to be made for security operatives to keep watch over him day and night.
Meanwhile, the defence counsel, Mr. Akpomereta from the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, AA, has filed an application before the court urging it to dismiss the charge against Onajobi.
Akpomereta argued that the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear or entertain the charge on the following grounds:
One, criminal proceeding at the Federal High Court can only be instituted in the name of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the complainant and not otherwise.
Two, that the accused did not commit any offence under the provisions of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and to her related matters, NAPTIP law.
The counsel also said the NAPTIP does not have the locus standi to prosecute the accused, having regard to NAPTIP law which delimit the scope of the law to generally cover cases of trafficking in persons and not otherwise.
The defence lawyer also said Mr. Ilori, being a staff of NAPTIP, is not competent to sign the charge.
However, in a counter affidavit to the preliminary objection sworn to by a NAPTIP investigating officer, Oluremi Oludare which was averred before the court by the NAPTIP prosecutor, Ilori, he contended that Ilori who is an officer in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, is competent to prosecute the case, arguing that the NAPTIP is an agency under the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

FoodN650K Champagne Advert Triggers Outrage From Nigerians by aloyemeka4(op): 9:48pm On Nov 16, 2011
N650k Champagne Triggers Outrage

https://pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Angel-Champagne.jpg

Angel Champagne

An advertisement of a champagne drink, costing £2,500 or  N650,000 per a 1.5 litre bottle has sparked outrage in Lagos, with some people who read the advert, describing the price as ‘sheer madness’, in a country where more than 90 per cent of the people earn daily income of less than a dollar.
Critics of the exorbitant price of the Angel champagne brand   said   only those who have embezzled money can afford it.
As  advertised, Angel comes in two different bottles, with the 750ml bottle selling for  £1,200 pounds or N312,000. P.M.NEWS found that the Nigerian prices are about three times what the drink goes for, in all its various brand by its foreign producers. The black bottle of 750ml is sold for £380, while the 1.5litre bottle is sold for £640. The platinum bottle of 750ml goes for £562, while the platinum 1.5 litre variety goes for £777.
ANGEL champagne is produced by Stefano Zagni, a British entrepreneur, who argues on his website that the drink is meant for select people around the world. As revealed on the site, Angel is designed for the celebrities of Hollywood in the USA. The producers even parades more outrageously priced  Jeroboam platinum bottle of 3 litres at £5,725, about N1.9million. The site also sells a champagne vintage brut magnum at £188,000, which  is N49million in Nigeria’s battered currency. And this is just for a 1.5 litre bottle.
“The quality of Angel Champagne is testament to the passion of its creators. Throughout every stage of its refinement, care and expert judgment have been applied – in order that those fortunate enough to enjoy it know they are enjoying the very best.”, the website gleefully announced.
“Angel has limited annual production so its exclusivity is assured, that is why it is only available for purchase here, on the official Angel Champagne web site and very select venues around the world,” the website said.
But Nigerians who spoke with P.M.NEWS today expressed shock and disbelief at the price tag with some describing it as a nonsense.
Mr. Gafar Akanni, a stockbroker in Lagos  was stupefied by the prices: ‘’Why? Why?…,”” he said, wondering why anyone will offer a drink for such hefty prices.
According to  Debo Adeniran, a political and human rights activist, the expensive champagne is a symbol of a corrupt society.
“This is outrageous. This is a symbol of  a corrupt society. This is how people show that they have money they did not work for. It is only a system change through dialogue or revolution that can stop the rot in Nigeria,” Adeniran said.
According to Tenny, a Nigerian student at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, except the wine is made of gold, the price is highly  bloated.

Fear grips residents of Ilorin as Police battle ritual killers
on NOVEMBER 15, 2011 · in CRIME ALERT

BY DEMOLA AKINYEMI, Ilorin
Palpable fear has gripped residents of Ilorin, kwara state capital, following rising cases of ritual attack which is gradually spreading to the nooks and crannies of the Islamic town. In Sabo-Oke area of the town alone, no fewer than seven people were attacked in the last one month while three of them died before good Samaritans could take them to the hospital for the much needed medical attention.

Crime Alert reliably gathered that three people who were returning from their church after a night vigil on a Friday, were at different times, reportedly attacked by suspected ritualists around the same area in the first two weeks of last month.

[img]http://odili.net/news/source/2011/nov/15/vanguard/images/Yemi[1].jpg[/img]
*Latest victim - Ms Yemi Arigbede (Inset) Her sliced skull.

While two of them, a lady and a middle-aged married woman reportedly died on the spot, the third, an aged woman who was found gasping for breath, with blood spilling out from her mouth very early in the morning by passersby, was quickly rushed to a popular hospital along Lajoorin street, for urgent medical attention but was rejected. She reportedly died shortly after.

Crime Alert checks further revealed that two other people who were reportedly attacked around Kaba area of Sabooke on a Thursday are still on danger list in different private hospitals. This ugly development is already threatening the security of the state capital and causing fear among the residents.

This is just as the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state, has called for urgent prayer session to address the untoward development.

Secretary of the assocition in the state, Rev. Emmanuel Fawenu, in a text message sent to members across the state, weekend said, 'in response to the activities of night marauders attacking people with dangerous weapons, CAN is calling all Christians for prayer convocation on Sunday by 5pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin. Please spread the message."

Also, worried by these development, the kwara state house of assembly last week passed a resolution, calling on the governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Peter Gana, to, as a matter of urgency, find a drastic solution to the spate of insecurity in Ilorin metropolis.

The speaker, Hon Abdulrasaq Atunwa while reading the resolution charged the security operatives in the state to rise up to the challenge by ensuring that the situation is brought to normalcy and the culprits brought to book.

A member representing Oke-Ero constituency, Dr Abraham Ashaolu had in a matter of urgent public attention moved the motion, explaining that on October 27th, 2011, around ministry of agric, round about, a Special Assistant to the governor on transport, Prince Deji Oni was attacked by some unknown people, which resulted in his being hospitalized for two weeks.

He added that around the same spot, another young man was murdered and his private part removed. In his own contribution, Hon Suleiman Sunoboro representing Ilesha/Gwanara constituency of Baruten local government of kwara north said that about twenty cases of strange killings and victims being admitted at General hospital, in Baruten have been reported in recent times.

The lawmaker pointed out that the attackers usually use their white handkerchiefs to clean the blood of their victims which they use for ritual purposes.

The latest victim, a theater artist who lived to tell the story of her sordid experience in the hands of ritualists lend credence to the rising cases of such attacks rapidly gaining grounds in Ilorin.

Relieving her experience in an interview with Crime Alert in Ilorin last Sunday, she said,"my name is Ms Yemi Arigbede. I am a member of Association of Nigerian Theater Arts Practitioners. I am also a producer, my film just came out last two weeks and it is titled; Olamide".

According to her, "I was coming from Tanke yesterday[last Saturday]when I dropped at Oro Road Junction, around 10.00pm, a man just emerged from a hideout and beat me with a cutlass. I had cuts and blood was oozing out. I managed to run as little as I could, then I was very weak.

The man did not run away immediately. He just went and hid somewhere. As I was shouting for help, one man came out but immediately I shouted again, he ran back. The man that hit me was wearing a black cloth and he is a young man. I saw some cars and cabs and I beckoned on them for help. But they were all moving their way but after a short-while, one man came and assisted me to a nearby hospital."

CrimeNNPC Top Executive Murdered In Abuja By Her Driver by aloyemeka4(op): 9:24pm On Nov 16, 2011
Abuja NNPC Topshot Afshatu Abdullahi Murdered By Driver

Hajia Afshatu Abdullahi was a top executive at NNPC Abuja. Her job required she lived mostly in Abuja while her immediate family lived in Auchi. She went home from time to time to spend time the family. Afshatu lived alone in a house located off Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, in Garki. The only other person who lived with her was a male house help. There were two other men around her, her driver, who didn't live with her, and a security man who lived inside her premises.

Last Sallah holiday, weekend before this last one, her family was expecting her home in Auchi. She called her husband and told him she was on her way to see them. She never showed up. All efforts to reach her on the phone proved abortive. Her husband tried to reach her at work, no one had seen her. He then set out for Abuja in search of his wife.

The search party got to Afshatu's house last week to find the house abandoned, aside from the security man, there was no else there. The security man said he hadn't seen his madam for a few days and assumed she had traveled. They broke into the home and found the place in disarray. Many expensive furniture missing, her jewelry gone, it was obvious the house had been burgled.

While searching, the husband opened the freezer in the kitchen and discovered Afshatu's body inside with lacerations on her neck and other parts of her body. They called the police.

Neighbours told police they had seen the house help driving the woman's SUV some days earlier but thought nothing of it. It was apparently an in-house robbery and murder, perpetuated by two men she trusted, her house help and her driver, who have since disappeared with her two cars, including a 2011 Toyota SUV, her cheque book, as well as cash she always kept in her home.

The security man found at her home is the only person being held for her murder at the Garki police station and he claims not to know anything about her murder. The two murderers are still at large. Investigations are still on.

If you are a woman who lives alone, mind the kind of people you allow into your home. You are vulnerable, people can take advantage.
