Lagos -A man, Mr Tajudeen Adenekan, 53, on Friday told the Igando Customary Court, Lagos, that his wife, Kuburat, called his mother a harlot, and therefore, sought the dissolution of their 12-year-old marriage.

Adenekan, who has five children by his wife, also alleged that Kuburat unduly accuses him of been infidelity.

“Whenever she comes across condoms in my car, she concludes that I am cheating on her.

‘’For the past four years, I have been the one cooking and washing the children’s clothes, “he said.

The petitioner told the court that his mother-in-law was aware of her daughter’s “uncaring attitude“.

‘’Since my mother cared for my wife after she had one of our babies, she had resorted to calling my mother a harlot whenever we quarrelled.

‘’She usually calls my father an slowpoke and always threaten to deal with me, “ he said.

He said that Kuburat once locked his 10-year-old niece outside till 10.00 p.m. “for no reason“.

The respondent, Kuburat, 33, said that she was tired of the marriage as she denied calling her in-laws names.

She argued that her recent visit to her mother-in-law attested to the cordial relationship between them, adding that she also wanted the marriage to end.

“Tajudeen drinks to stupor. He gets drunk to the extent of urinating and excreting on his body. His conduct embarrasses me, and whenever I try to caution him, he feels offended.

“Most times, strangers drive him home when he his drunk. In all sincerity, I no longer love him,“ she said.

The presiding Court President, Mrs Francisca Johnson, adjourned the hearing to Dec. 1 for judgment. (NAN)

Ex-governor Bola Tinubu's new airline company - First Nation Airways (formerly Bellview Airline) has commenced operation.

The resuscitated airline, which the former governor and ACN Chieftain allegedly bought for $30 million, started operations on Thursday November 3, 2011, with its first flight plying Lagos/Abuja route.

Sara Forbes Bonetta was a West African Egbado Omoba who was orphaned in inter-tribal warfare at the age of eight. Intended to be a human sacrifice, she was rescued by Captain Frederick E. Forbes of the Royal Navy, who convinced King Ghezo of Dahomey to give her to Queen Victoria, "She would be a present from the King of the blacks to the Queen of the Whites," Forbes wrote later. He named her Sara Forbes Bonetta.
Victoria was impressed by the young princess' exceptional intelligence, and had Sara raised as her goddaughter in the British middle class. In 1851 she gained a long lasting cough that was caused by the climate transferring from Africa to Great Britain. She was sent to school in Africa and later then returned to England when she became 20. Sara was sanctioned by Victoria to marry Captain James Davies at Nicholas Church in Brighton in August, 1862. Davies was a Yoruba businessman of considerable wealth for the period, and the couple moved back to their native Africa after their wedding. Sara was baptised at a church in the town of Badagry, a former slave port.
She died at the age of 37 in 1880 of tuberculosis. Her husband James had previously been concerned about Sara because she appeared to have had a cough that would not go away; she was eventually diagnosed with the consumption.

I am not a scholar, but i do think that the fatwa cant remain forever, because someday, rushdie will grow old, so old that death will come to claim him. What happens to the fatwa on him them? It can not remain forever because even the world will not remain forever.

If you are not a scholar and cannot explain things written in your quran even though you are a well educated man, how can you convince a keferi like me that you know the truth?. How are these Islamic scholars trained?. I am not surprised. That is Hausa culture for you. I served in Ahmadu Bello's village, Rabah, Sokoto state, and the corpers lodge I stayed in was said to be built by Sardauna himself as guest house. Although they like cars, many of them are not big fans of houses. They try as much as possible to preserve their culture.
