Don't mind them. It's like the Nigerian government derives pleasure from copying oyibo but the problem is when they copy, they won't copy them well and it is also appropriate to check how urgent the people you govern needs the factor you are copying. Biofuel is a good thing but the technology is yet to be perfected . The shortest cut to our fuel problem is to refurbish our existing refineries so they can produce at full capacity. I doubt if we need new ones.

So natural gas is not also for vehicle consumption?

Shekarau’s declaration came on the day he betrayed emotion while receiving the emir of Kano on Sallah homage at the Africa House against the backdrop that he is presiding over the last Eid Kabir in the state as the chief executive noted that ‘it is compulsory for all faithful to partake in the national exercise’.
Malam Shekarau who also doubles as the Sardaunan of Kano choose the occasion to reminded the citizen that ‘democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and the only way to elect leaders of choice starts with the impending processes.

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau said that no faithful is excused from the exercise so long he is hale hearty during the exercise, adding that it is part of religious duty to make the national exercise a success.
The Governor told a packed crowd that ‘the INEC voter’s registration scheduled for Jan 8_22 is compulsory for every Muslims is a religious duty, no one is excused and it is only through the process that we can elect credible leaders, and therefore must be treated as a jihad’.
The Kano Governor stated that the introduction of sharia law in the state has helped stabilized Kano social circle, stressing that moral decadence has been on steady decline compared to what it was before his ascension to power in 2003.
Shekarau noted that he has elevated Kano moral standard through the societal reorientation programme of his administration, pointing out that it is of hope that those that will succeed him will improve on the record.


In a speech earlier, the emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero urged citizen to imbibe peace, adding that is through it a society can record progress.
He commended the Governor for the support to the emirate council during the last 7 years, adding that ‘he hope the gesture will be improve on outside the office.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia (SAN), who made this known on Tuesday, said the suspect, left Nigeria with the delegation of the Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki.


He told journalists before leaving New York, United States, where he addressed a United Nations Security Council meeting on Sudan, that Mottaki refused his request to quiz the suspect before he (suspect) fled the country.


According to him, the Iranian foreign minister hinged his refusal on the fact that the suspect had diplomatic immunity.


He said, “I sought from the foreign minister, an access to interview him, but he was not willing to do that. He (the suspect) , went back on the foreign minister’s delegation.”


Ajumogobia said he had asked Mottaki to wave the Iranian’s diplomatic status, but he declined to do so.


“I asked the Iranian foreign minister to give access to the diplomat for what it was worth. There were two Iranians mentioned. The facts came to life through discussions with Mottaki, that the other one is a diplomat.”


Mottaki had on Monday said in Tehran that the ‘misunderstanding’ between the two countries over the arms shipment had been resolved.


He told journalists after his brief visit to Nigeria last week, he had cleared the way for Nigerian interrogators to quiz the second Iranian suspect.


Asked to respond to this claim, Ajumogobia said Mottaki must have been referring to how he (Mottaki) facilitated access to the second suspect at the Iranian embassy in Abuja.


He recalled that he had asked the Iranian minister to direct his country’s then Ambassador to Nigeria, Hussein Abdullahi, to grant access to the two suspects “but that did not happen in almost a week.”


Ajumogobia said, “I explained to the foreign minister of Iran that we had international obligations to carry out, but we needed to have the facts, we want to be accurate in our reports to the Security Council and this individual will throw light on the issue.”


The minister added that while his Iranian counterpart insisted that arms the shipment was meant for elsewhere, “ I was concerned that the shipment was here in Nigeria.”

The Federal Government is considering a new biofuels development policy for a viable alternative to the continued dependence on imported petroleum products as fuels for energy supplies in the country.

A forum recently facilitated by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has already recommended the constitution of a technical committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the 2007 national biofuels policy, to remove all impediments to achieving the bio-fuels development initiative, and replace with a framework that will be more commercially friendly.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) is expected to provide the necessary technical input to the deliberations, particularly concerning previous and ongoing biofuels initiatives, as well as the existing relationship between producers and foreign off-take partners from China and Singapore. This will also enable Nigeria gain access to the carbon credit available under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

During a recent meeting in Abuja, attended by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and other government monitoring and regulatory agencies in the oil and gas industry, members observed that the provisions of the existing policy document were inadequate to help realise the national objective.

Participants were of the opinion that rather than have an agreement entered into solely with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), as envisaged under a previous arrangement, the proposed policy should make it an industry-wide pact, to enable depot owners and petroleum products marketers partake, in line with the current reforms in the petroleum industry.

Unhelpful policies for local production

They also pointed out that the current import-based policy on petroleum products supply in existence was a dis-incentive to local production and domestic self sufficiency in fuels production.

The Biofuels Policy and Incentives (2007), which was approved by the Federal Executive Council on June 20, 2007, and gazetted to facilitate the promotion of a national bio-fuels development programme in the country, was, however, found to contain some lapses, including its being dependent on import as well as state-controlled monopoly.

The NNPC was mandated to create an enabling environment for the take-off of a domestic ethanol fuel industry, to gradually reduce the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products, reduce the negative impact of environmental pollution, as well as create a commercially viable industry capable of sustaining the creation of domestic job opportunities.

“The imperative for a policy review is that given the fact that bio-fuels markets worldwide are mandate-driven, Nigeria cannot afford to be an exemption. There need for the biofuels policy document to be reviewed by a sub-committee before presentation to the main committee. There is also the need to incorporate other relevant organisations, such as the financial institutions, farmers association, etc.,” said Abiodun Ibikunle, the PPPRA executive secretary.

The technical committee on biofuels development, which is expected to be inaugurated next week by the minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, will include the NNPC, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA), DPR, PPPRA, and Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

Others are representatives of the ECN, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), farmers association, federal ministries of finance and petroleum resources.

In February 1999, Adedoyin employed three unsuspecting persons to work as telemarketers in a Bergenfield office. Adedoyin had the telemarketers write and telephone businesses all over the country to offer reservations for $5,000 per seat at a supposed business awards event at Madison Square Garden. The event was wholly fictitious.

According to testimony and evidence at trial, the telemarketers were also directed to solicit businesses to purchase the production of infomercials about their companies that African Satellite Television claimed to be able to broadcast all over the world. Although Adedoyin had at one time signed contracts with satellite companies that could transmit programs internationally, those companies refused to provide him with any service after all of the checks he had sent to them bounced, according to evidence at trial.

Two of the three telemarketers who worked for Adedoyin in Bergenfield testified at trial that after two weeks of working for the defendant, they realized that he was operating a scam. They then contacted law enforcement.

Evidence at trial also revealed that the victims of his scheme included landlords, vendors and his own employees. Adedoyin leased office space at the World Trade Center in New York from April of 1997 until he was evicted in August of 1998 for nonpayment of rent. When he was applying for office space at the World Trade Center, the defendant supplied a financial document claiming his company had $5.5 million in available cash.

Adedoyin rented the Bergenfield office for five months. During that time he paid the landlord with two checks that bounced and was finally locked out for non-payment of rent. Adedoyin also rented space at a satellite dish station in Vernon owned by ATS Micronet, from which he was likewise evicted for owing about $40,000 in back rent, according to trial testimony.

The defendant called himself "Sir Lawrence" and signed legal documents under that name, variously telling people that he was related to Nigerian royalty or that he had been knighted by the British. A certification provided by St. James Palace in London and introduced into evidence at trial proved that "Sir" Lawrence had never been awarded knighthood. At trial, the defense lawyers suggested to the jury that the "Sir" was actually a stage name, something like Elvis Presley having been called "the King," or Queen Latifa being called "Queen," or Charles Barkeley sometimes being referred to as "Sir" Charles Barkeley.

Adedoyin repeatedly passed checks that bounced, some in amounts as large as $180,000. He succeeded in obtaining over $1 million worth of broadcasting equipment from Thompson Broadcasting Systems in Englewood by inducing a financing company to provide a purchase order for that equipment with a $97,000 check that bounced. Thompson subsequently retrieved most of its equipment, but the defendant has neither paid for nor returned about $100,000 worth of that equipment.

Adedoyin also did not pay any of his employees. A former employee at Adedoyin's World Trade Center office testified that the salary check he was given by Adedoyin bounced. On another occasion, Adedoyin gave his employees check stubs without the checks.

Adedoyin is currently in custody. During the sentencing hearing, Judge Walls said that he expected and hoped that the Defendant will be deported upon the completion of his sentence.

Christie credited Special Agents of the FBI, under the direction of Louie F. Allen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Newark office, and Special Agents of the INS Criminal Investigation section, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Anne D. Fahy.

The Presidential candidate of the African Political Systems (APS), Sir. Adedoyin, Lawrence Famakinde whose running mate is Alhaji Ali Abacha was once sentenced to 30 months imprisonment in a US federal prison for fraud related matters in 2001. He was arrested after using fake African Televisions stations to defraud unsuspecting members of the US public.

“Sir” Adedoyin Lawrence was later deported to Nigeria after his appeals failed in 2004 according to documents received by Saharareporters pertaining to the case.

After returning to Nigeria, Lawrence Famakinwa also went and set up an illegal TV station in the Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State with the purpose of defrauding members of the public but the station -United Tribes of African System Television Authority (UTASTAD) - was promptly closed down while the Nigerian police briefly arrested and detained Lawrence Adedoyin.

The African Political Systems his political party is not listed on INEC’s poorly managed website though his name was released by INEC Chairman, Maurice Iwu amongst those cleared by INEC to run for the office of presidency in the upcoming elections.

Nigerian National Sentenced to 30 Months for Telemarketing Bogus African Broadcast and Satellite Air time

NEWARK - A Nigerian national was sentenced today to 30 months in federal prison for fraud convictions in two separate trials, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced. The defendant was convicted at the first trial for having defrauded American businesses and individuals by posing as the operator of African television and satellite outlets and soliciting money from them. He was convicted at the second trial for immigration fraud.

Lawrence Famakinde Adedoyin, a/k/a "Sir Lawrence," a native of Nigeria, was convicted by a jury in Newark in October 2001 of three counts of mail fraud. Adedoyin was then convicted by a second jury of two counts of immigration fraud in December 2001, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Bohdan Vitvitsky.

In sentencing Adedoyin today, U.S. District Judge William H. Walls also ordered him to pay $148,329 in restitution, and imposed a special assessment of $320 and a three-year term of supervised release.

Adedoyin was convicted of employing a scheme to obtain money as well as various goods and services without paying for them. Adedoyin represented himself to be president of an African television company that he claimed had branches throughout Africa and that he at various times named the African Television Network, the African Broadcasting Corporation and African Satellite Television, according to Vitvitsky, who tried the cases.

AWKA-A FAKE Catholic priest, who for years, had been deceiving unsuspecting members of the public in parts of Imo and Anambra states had been caught by the long arms of the law.

The suspect, Solomon Ohakim, who was said to be parading himself as a Monsignor, next to a Bishop in the Catholic Church, was caught at Okpoko, a suburb in Onitsha, where he had come to perform family cleansing for some people who thought he was a genuine Reverend Father.

The Trinitas Newspaper, an official organ of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, in its November, 2010 edition, reported that the fake priest had been operating since 2006 and, indeed, had a ministry at Orlu area of Imo State where the people mistook him for an ordained Reverend Father.

According to the report, Ohakim had in 2006, convinced some people at Okpoko that a girl was buried alive in a compound by their ancestors and that it was the reason the village had not witnessed progress.

It was gathered that after collecting a huge sum of money from the villagers to appease the gods, nothing was achieved and nobody heard about him until recently when another family brought him to the area for another cleansing.

The report said: "This time around, he was invited to Okpoko by a widow for the burial of her husband. However, nemesis caught up with him when he decided to inform the parish priest of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Odekpe, Rev Fr David Ozoemena, that he was coming for a burial ceremony in the parish.

"He had claimed that he was coming from St Eugene's Parish, Aba, and pleaded with Fr Ozoemena to prepare a place for him to stay.

"The story, however, took another dimension when Fr. Ozoemena made enquiries in Aba only to be informed that there was no such priest in the whole of Aba Diocese.

"Though he still waited for his August visitor, Ohakim eventually failed to show up at the parish, but was seen at the venue of the funeral ceremony at night adorning the full regalia of a Catholic priest and was performing with his gospel band. He later disappeared the same night before the parish priest could arrive the scene.

"When Fr Ozoemena informed the parishioners that Ohakim is not a priest, there was uproar in the area. However, the people devised another means of attracting him to the area by telling him that a family paid N50,000 for him to perform a family cleansing for them.

"He fell into the trap and was subsequently arrested and taken to Atani police station on his arrival."

He was eventually taken to the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Awka, and it was gathered that he had already been charged to court for impersonation.

During interrogation, Ohakim denied being a priest, but claimed that he runs a church which goes by the name, Glorious Church at Ogberuru in Orlu local government area of Imo State.

On why he answered a Monsignor and uses Catholic materials, including the Rosary and the material for the Holy Communion, the fake priest said such materials were in the market for anybody to buy.

The 14-year -old girl in Lagos, Kehinde, who allegedly had a baby for her father, Yesiru Onojobi, is now in a dilemma over the custody of the baby.

The embattled girl told Daily Sun that she couldn’t stand the shame of making the list of girls who had illicit affairs with their biological fathers which resulted in having abominable children. According to her, because of the stigma and sad memories associated with such baby, she has decided to donate her to the government.

“My father has ruined my life. He has brought shame to me, I feel like dying. I don’t want to set my eyes on him anymore. I can’t look at him in the face. I want the government to come and take this baby now,” she fumed as she wept.

The girl is also concerned about the health condition of her new born baby as some traditionalists in her community ( masquerade) have warned her not to breastfeed the baby, as doing so could result in her death and that of her child. According to her, donating the baby to the government would guarantee her safety. “At least, they will feed her with nutritious food ,” she reasoned.

The Junior Secondary School I(JSS I) student narrated how her amorous father started sleeping with her since December 2009 which resulted in the pregnancy. Ironically, it was the father, who beat her black and blue over four years ago, when another man allegedly deflowered her. The father later converted her to his bedmate. “My father gave me the beating of my life. Less than four years after, the same father forced and had sex with me. He had sex with me each time I finished menstruating. I warned him that it would result to pregnancy, but he didn’t listen to me.”

He warned me not to tell anybody about the pregnancy, but one day, my cousins came, insisting to know the person responsible for the pregnancy. They tied my father’s hands and legs with rope and took me to the backyard and I told them the truth. My father later took me to Safeway Hospital and ran away,” she said. But the 50 years old randy father, who owned up to the crime said he only had sex with his daughter once, adding that he was tempted to do so when she formed the habit of removing her clothes in his presence.

“She did not raise the alarm because it was not her first time of doing it,” he said. He, however, said he did not know what came over him to warrant his having love affairs with his own daughter. Meanwhile, the police have described the action of the suspect as an abomination. The state police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, who briefed the press on the issue, described it as a clear case of defilement. He advised members of the public not to take the laws into their hands, assuring that the suspect would be arraigned soon.

THE political crisis rocking Ekiti State over the dissolved local council executives about two weeks ago took a dangerous dimension on Tuesday as the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ordered the ousted local government chairmen and councillors back to office on Thursday (tomorrow), barely 24 hours after Governor Kayode Fayemi swore in caretaker committees into the local governments.

But Fayemi, in a swift response, warned that he remained the only lawful governor of the state and that having sworn in the caretaker committees, he would not condone any act of lawlessness from any member of the public in the state.


Fayemi had, on Monday, constituted a seven-man caretaker committee for each of the 16 local governments, with a controversial 12-man Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) legislators' quorum in the state House of Assembly ratifying the dissolution of the council executives and sanctioning the caretaker committees.


Ousted former governor of the state, Chief Segun Oni, and a former deputy speaker in the House, who was Oni's Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Taiwo Olatunbosun, had protests over what they called 'brazen illegality' in the House.


But the PDP in the state, apparently smarting from the initial shock, on Tuesday, at a press conference addressed by its state chairman, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo, chronicled what it called illegalities committed by the Fayemi-led ACN government since it assumed office, saying that the latest act of the government on the local governments would not stand.


Olu-Ojo thereby directed that all elected officials at the local government level should, on Thursday, proceed to their respective duty posts, calling on security operatives and political supporters to escort them there.


"Since his inauguration on October 16, exactly one month ago, the ACN governor, Dr Fayemi, has been taking illegal and unconstitutional actions, contrary to the constitution of Nigeria that he swore to protect. Some of these illegal and unconstitutional actions are: one, at his inauguration, he ordered the freezing of accounts of local governments, whereas the local governments' administration is guaranteed under Sections 7 and 8 of the Nigerian Constitution. Two, he dissolved democratically-elected councils; a power he does not have except in exceptional circumstances which require two-thirds majority of the members of the House who are now 25, i.e. 17. Three, he allowed the accounts of the councils to be operated illegally by career officers and held JAAC session unconstitutionally. Four, only yesterday (Monday), he purportedly sworn in caretaker chairmen, despite the fact that a court ordered him not to do so. Five, he masterminded, aided and abetted the illegal sitting of the House on November 15 and used same to obtain a fraudulent approval.


"The speaker of the House, Honourable Tunji Odeyemi, had adjourned the sitting of the House sine dine, for it to re-open sitting at any date.


The speaker is the only person authorised by the rules of House to make such a pronouncement. He is in the country, hale and hearty and so, any pronouncement by any other person is null and void," Olu-Ojo said.


At the conference attended by all the ousted local government chiefs and members of the party, the PDP chairman, therefore, directed that all the local government chairmen earlier sacked, alongside their councillors, should return to office on Thursday, with full security and paraphernalia of office.


"We are directing all PDP members in the state to accompany their local government political office holders to go to their offices as from Thursday."


But the state government, in a reaction by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Fayemi on Media, Alhaji Mojeed Jamiu, said it would not join issues with Olu-Ojo and warned that it would not condone any act of lawlessness.


It maintained that Governor Fayemi headed the only constituted authority in the state and, as such, any pronouncement from any quarter had no force of law.

The Id-El Kabir celebrations in Kwara state was yesterday turned into tragedy as one of the mobile policemen deployed to quench the crisis between the two royal families in ancient town of Ganmo in Ifelodun local government area of the state was reportedly killed.

Besides, no fewer than 15 people have been reportedly injured, about 10 cars damaged and the palace of Olu of Ganmo was said to have been touched by the suspected hoodlums .

Already, the police station in the town was hurriedly shut for fear of appraisal attack by the supporters of the two royal families in the town.

The two royal families, Ganna and Okunloye had been in each other throats over the control of the town for over ten years now,

The Okunloye family was said not to be disposed to the royal position of Oba Atanda Kolawole and since the enthronement of the royal father, he has been moving from one court to the other and it has now reached the supreme court for final determination .

THISDAY checks revealed that, the crisis was said to have started when the news flittered out that some suspected hoodlums are allegedly planning to touch one of the houses of the chiefs of the town said to be in support of the present father of the town.

It was gathered that, apart from this, one of the royal families was said to have recruited eight soldiers that would reportedly assist them to carry out the act before the information fifth out.

During the crisis, dangerous weapons like cutlasses, daggers, stones and charms were said to have been freely used by the hoodlums and the development led to the suspension of Id-El prayers in the town.

Eye witness account told newsmen that as this was on, some of the other families who were at the praying ground were not left out in the attack and the whole praying ground was turn into desert place.

The development however led the state police command to deployed mobile policemen to Ganmo but when they got there they were said to have met some eight soldiers who were said to be working for one of the royal families in the town.

It was at this point that the police challenged their presence of the soldiers at the place and this led to fitscuff between the duo and at the end of it claimed the life of one of the policemen.

Contacted , the state police boss, Alhaji Mukthari Ibrahim who confirmed the crisis said that, no fewer than 11 people have been arrested including one of the army officers that were deployed to the town .

He said that, it was unfortunate that such crisis should occurred but the state police command would leave no stone unturned to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident .

Ibrahim however said that, the state police command has deployed policemen to the town and they will be there until peace return to the town.

In what appeared like a dress rehearsal for what to expect in 2011, suspected political thugs allegedly loyal to the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, yesterday invaded the Agodi praying ground and physically assaulted an Ibadan- born religious leader and businessman, Lateef Oyelade.

Daily Sun gathered that, a security report had earlier warned that Agodi praying ground was not safe for the opposition group to the second term ambition of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including Senator Lekan Balogun, former governor Rashidi Ladoja, Senate Leader, Teslim Balogun and former deputy national chairman of the party, Yekeen Adeojo.

The report, it was further learnt, may have forced the group to abandon the Agodi praying ground for other praying grounds within the city.

The decision was described as a means of avoiding possible violence at the praying ground.

None of the members of the anti-Akala coalition was sighted at the praying ground yesterday. former governor, Rashidi Ladoja prayed at the University of Ibadan ground, and Senate Leader Teslim Folrin, at the Ansurudeen praying ground, Obafemi Awolowo Stadium area Oke-Ado in Ibadan . Unknown to Oyelade, that there was an unfavourable security report which kept away virtually all top Ibadan Muslim politicians from observing the Eid prayer at the popular Agodi praying ground, the religious leader incurred the wrath of the hoodlums when he openly challenged the decision of some hoodlum to take over the three front row seats usually reserved for religious leaders as well as politicians in the state.

The thugs, it was alleged had arrived the ground as early as 7.00am in a bid to ensure that all the three front rows were occupied ahead the arrival of the Deputy Governor, Arapaja, who later arrived at 9.00am and sat among them. One of the notable muslims that came before the (Deputy-Governor, Dauda Lawore, (a.k.a. Omo Oku-Orun) was said to have challenged the hoodlums for taking over the front rows but was rebuffed, a situation which made him leave the venue in protest and annoyance. Oyelade who arrived later was also said to have challenged the action of the hoodlums, unknown to him that somebody had earlier challenged the sitting arrangement.

He was to have openly complained to the Deputy-Governor, with the intention that the Deputy Governor would call the thugs to order, but unfortunately he got the shock of his life, as the thugs rough-handled and molested him. But for the intervention of some Islamic faithful around, the old man could have been beaten up. The ugly development led to protest by the congregation, who decried the action of the hoodlums for invading the place of worship. The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Shiek Suara Haruna also had difficulty appealing to the congregation as well as Oyelade who left the praying ground to go and observe his prayer elsewhere.
