Racism....

Here are my thoughts on this topic.

My default thought is... if you look at everything from the prism of racism, you will certainly find racism in almost every interaction you have with people of other races. So you must be very conscious of keeping an open and objective mind on this topic. Case example, I was in the elevator at our office building when a guy from a different floor was waiting to come into the elevator. Elevator door opens and he literally FROZE when he saw me grin. I just smiled at him and he came in. I wish i had captured that moment on video. He couldn't hide his surprise. Does that mean he is racist? No! He probably had never seen a black person in that building before and I think i'm likely the only black person that works in that building (Building houses multiple companies on different floors)

In the professional environment, especially if you are not in the major cities like Sydney and Melbourne where there is a very large and diverse population, the locals will definitely find it unusual when a new person from a different race and background joins the team. Be confident, be bold in your conversations with them. First impressions matter a lot; introduce yourself, give them a firm handshake and look them straight in the eye when talking to them. Please understand that you are dealing with your equal (a human being like you), do not be intimidated. They will ask you questions, some genuinely trying to know more about you and understand how to deal with and address you properly, while some are just out-rightly looking for a reason to be pissed at you grin grin (these cases are few and far-fetched though). Most people I have interacted and currently work with have been mostly pleasant so I have no racist experiences to share.

I beg you in God's name DO NOT ADDRESS THEM AS SIR/MA. I have seen one of our people address these guys as sir at a place i worked and i always felt like slapping those words out of his mouth grin grin grin. Even when you try to tell him it's not right, he'll say ''i'm an African man, that's how i know how to address them.

All of the above is not to say racism does not exist. Racism is alive and well entrenched in some people. This is just the same with even our own people and ethnic bigotry. It can never be totally wiped out. One thing you can be rest assured of is there are strong laws that help protect minorities against discrimination and hate in the work environment and society at large. So should there be a case of a co-worker or boss being out-rightly racist or discriminatory towards you, you can seek redress through various channels created by the government for this purpose.

But trust me, once they see that you are a strong character and you carry yourself with respect and dignity, most of them won't bother looking for your trouble and it makes it easier to navigate your way in the work environment and society at large.

Well said.

Hello All,
My Situation Is That Of Disparity Between My Qualification And Work. I Have Been Working As A Senior Computer Operator In The Public Service Since 2013 = 6yrs Experience And Counting. But I Hold A Bachelor's Degree In Environmental Resource & Protection Management, 2017. I Could Apply As Conservation Officer Which Is On 407, 489, 482 And 187, But With Zero Points For Work Experience. I'd Appreciate Any Advise As To The Right Path To Follow Given My Position.
Computer operator is a vague description of your role. you need to narrow it down to one of the occupation on the MLTSSL list, STSOL list or ROL list. check https://www.anzscosearch.com/
If the outcome is an occupation assessed by ACS, https://www.acs.org.au/msa/information-for-applicants.html, you have the option of RPL which enables you to land a postive assesment and maybe claim some years of experiences.

or if its a VETASESS outcome: it may be a possible for some years of experience to be taken in lieu of a related degree.

Hello house,

My family and I have our PR and we are planning to relocate in Dec. For those living in Sydney how easy is it to secure a good school for kids of age 6 and 8 years. Wouldn't it be too late to get a good school assuming we arrive in December 15th.
This issue of school placement, day care and preschool is location dependent. Based on my experience it can be very stressful here in Sydney. However people have reported easy placement in this same Sydney.
Families outside Sydney have reported easy pezzy placements for their kids

Good morning, thanks to Bellong and others who have been very helpful here.

I want to relocate to Australia via PR and I have been reading from the first thread, unfortunately it looks like it's almost impossible for me because I studied law...

Is there a solution to this? I can see Human resources manager under Subclass 190 for Victoria. I have someone that can give me employment letter and reference letter to that effect... how many months of bank statement will I need to show to prove it?

Is there another occupation on the list I can use without showing work experience?
While lawyers are having it hard,
If you are not a practicing it,
what are doing currently and how many years of experience do you have? HR manager??

visit the link above to understand if you can meet the criteria.

The process goes beyond bank statement

Recognized employment for skilled visa are usually paid jobs with evidence.
TAX/PENSION/BANK STATEMENT are not possible without Income being paid!!!

I see you are trying to claim 5 yrs in total, while I understand the situation but please please and please, only claim what is verifiable, may NJL not be your potion.

@ Bellong

Supposing l am claiming 13 years work experience, should my 3rd party evidence: tax clearance and bank statement also cover the whole 13 years?

Yes.
All claims must be supported with 3rd party evidence.
However in your case, you necessarily may not need the whole 13yrs documented
According to the point system, 8yrs+ gives you the maximum point available, which is 15pt..... All you truly need is evidence of 8yrs in last 10 yrs.

Considering the recent invitation rounds of 80 points minimum, do you think i have a chance of invitation in the coming months with 65 points for an occupation that is not competitive and non pro rata? Want to know my options before i waste money on assessment and end up not getting invitation.

@bellong @Alphadoor
Just as you already feared.

65pts is mostly likely not going to make the cut in the next round or subsequent ones. The backlog of 70 and 75 pts can't be catered for in the next 5 rounds

Hello everyone,

I want to start by saying big thanks to you all, the information contained in this thread is helping me a lot as I'm preparing for my skills assessment.

My background;
1. Education - BSc Systems Engineering
2. Work Experience - 9 yrs post NYSC as a business analyst / project manager at a software firm

From all I've read it seems that I have to do my ACS assessment for ANZSCO code 261111 using the RPL route, since my qualification and my work experience do not match. (Please correct me if I've come to the wrong conclusion).

Also, can anyone help me out with a sample of a submitted RPL? I would really appreciate it...

Thanks

Your profile does not require RPL. System engineering will be recognised by ACS. However if ACS says otherwise after your application, you will be adviced to submit RPL.

Please who has recent experience with statutory declaration for ACS Assessment? I need advice

They say it has to be from a colleague preferably a supervisor or manager.

So the thing is, can a manager who also no longer works there -YES declare for me, and does the person have to go to court with me or the person can write and I take to court YES

The department I worked under split and merged with a different organization to form another company. So getting an experience letter has been difficult.

Thanks. Even though it was not my question. The truth is that I came into this thread to ask question number one and I'm glad it has been answered.

Please one other question. Will only my reference letter suffice since I didn't have pay slips during NYSC?

If you're not claiming any point for that period. It should suffice.

Regional Skills Relocation Grant Program

Expression of Interest (EOI) are available for skilled workers in metropolitan areas to register their details, occupation and interest in the NSW regions they would consider relocating to.

Information provided in the EOI form will be offered to businesses deemed eligible under the Regional Skills Relocation Grant to help match skilled workers with businesses seeking their skills. Submission of the EOI form does not guarantee a role with a regional NSW business.

Visit the NSW Skilled Occupations List for an overview of the eligible occupations. Skilled workers must be permanent residents to be eligible for the program.

This is an incentive programs for 189 and 190 Visa holders to move to regional NSW

New Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional visa (bye bye 489)

Even though it will not come into effect until 16 November 2019 , the legislation for the new visa is now available. This is great news as it will allow people to really plan for the end of the year. There are still some gaps in the information (such as what the occupation list will look like) but here are the highlights.

There will be a new definition for what is a regional area in Australia and this will apply to all references to a regional area, including the points allocated for regional study in Australia. The area appears to be defined as all of Australia outside the metropolitan areas of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth; though no postcodes are available as yet so we are not sure what a metropolitan area will mean.

Most of the requirements for the visa will be similar to the current subclass 489 visa (which will cease when this visa comes in). The applicant will still need to be nominated by a state or territory or sponsored by a family member living in a designated area as defined above. There will be an invitation to apply for the visa, the applicant has to be under 45 years old, have competent English, and meet the points test.

Changes to the points testThere are some exciting changes for all points-tested Skilled visa applications from 16 November 2019 . New points will be available as follows:If you have a partner who is skilled with competent English (current requirement) there will be 10 points rather than 5If you do not have a partner or your partner is an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you will also get 10 pointsIf you have a partner who has competent English only, there will be 5 points to be gainedSpecialist education points (where you study in Australia in a Master or PhD course with certain broad and narrow fields as defined in CRICOS) will increase from 5 to 10 pointsDesignated regional nomination or sponsorship points will also increase from 10 to 15 points

The visa will be valid for 5 years but have strict reporting and compliance conditions to ensure that the main applicant and all family members only live, work and study in a designated regional area.

After three years of holding the subclass 491 visa, you can apply for a Subclass 191 Permanent Resident (Skilled Regional) visa. You must have complied with all the conditions of your visa, and provide three years of tax assessment notices showing a taxable income above a certain level (the amount has not yet been announced).

So there are exciting times ahead and it will be important that you assess your options carefully to see if you will be better or worse off after the change.

Feel free to post any questions

@dikachi12

There is no possibility of such ban...
You are only banned by EA from assessing with EA.
If you decide to go with VETASSES, you should be fine and well within your right to do.

The best thing to do is write to EA and seek clarity.
Be sure to keep us posted.
DHA doesn't even know about you yet but it's ok to be cautious

Changes to the points test from 16th November 2019
Changes to the points test from November 2019 –

The amendments introduce a revised points system for the subclass 491 visa as well as existing General Skilled Migration (489,189,190) visas. Points are awarded for attributes that are linked with the applicant’s ability to make the greatest economic contribution, as the key purpose of the skilled migration program is to maximise the economic benefits of migration to Australia.

The changes to the points test are to introduce:

· more points for having a skilled spouse or de facto partner (10 points);

· more points for applicants nominated by a State or Territory government or sponsored by a family member residing in regional Australia (15 points);

· more points for having certain STEM qualifications (10 points);

· points for applicants who do not have a spouse or de facto partner (10 points); and

· points for applicants with a spouse or de facto partner who has competent English (5 points).

To later obtain Permanent Residence (visa 191) you will need to :

– hold a regional provisional visa when they apply for the Subclass 191 visa, and have held that visa for at least three years;

– have earned a minimum income for at least three years as the holder of a regional provisional visa; and

– have complied with the conditions of the regional provisional visa.

There will be a NEW ordering system for ALL points test applicants as follows …

If all other points claims are equal, invitations for points tested visas will be ranked by the Migration Points Test as described below:

· First – primary applicants with a skilled spouse or de facto partner

· Equal First – primary applicants without a spouse or de facto partner

· Second – Primary applicants with a spouse or de facto partner who can demonstrate competent English but does not have the skills for skilled partner points (age and skills)

· Third – Primary applicants with a partner who is ineligible for either competent English or Skilled partner points. These applicants will be ranked below all other cohorts, if all other points claims are equal.

Other Notes
If you are granted this New Regional visa you cannot be granted any other permanent visa of any category for 3 years.

You are fee to move to other states but you must reside in Regional Australia until qualifying for Permanent Residence
