The embattled former Commander Abba Kyari rejects prison food

https://makesensepromotions.com/the-embattled-former-commander-abba-kyari-rejects-prison-food/

The embattled former Commander, Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, has rejected food offered him by the Nigerian Correctional Service after being remanded in prison custody on Monday.

The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, it was learnt, opted for the food prepared by his wife or other family members.

Kyari, who is under prosecution for drug trafficking alongside four other policemen, was denied bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had in the charge before the court, accused Kyari and the other four officers of conspiracy, obstruction and dealing in cocaine worth 17.55kg.

The trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwike, ordered the drug agency to transfer the defendants to prison custody, shortly after he denied them bail.

The court held that the NDLEA placed sufficient materials before it to warrant the refusal of bail to Kyari and his co-defendants -Sunday Ubia, Simon Agirgba, and John Nuhu, who are former IRT members.

Findings on Wednesday showed that Kyari and his co-defendants have been settling down in the custodial centre but sources said the DCP has largely kept to himself since his arrival on Monday.

It was gathered that Kyari’s presence has generated some excitement among the inmates, some of who were investigated for various crimes by the IRT under the DCP.

An officer stated, “We suspected that he may not eat the food being served here. So, we were not surprised when he opted for the food prepared by his wife or family members.

“His presence has, however, generated excitement in the facility. Many inmates who had had some encounters with him and others who heard about his ongoing trial have been discussing the fact that a senior policeman like him was remanded in Kuje where some individuals he investigated are also serving time.”

The NCoS spokesman, Francis Enobore, said inmates facing prosecution had the right to eat food prepared by their family members, noting that they are free to provide their food by themselves.

He stated, “Our law allows us to request any inmate who wishes to do self-feeding to apply through a formal application to the officer in-charge of the custodial centre. Subject to the approval of the official in-charge, the applicant will make arrangements with whoever he wishes to bring food for him.”

“The caveat is that if the person fails to bring food, he would not be fed from the service’s kitchen. Again, whoever is bringing his food; it is compulsory the person tastes the food in the presence of the officer conducting the visit to ensure that the food is wholesome before passing it over to the inmate.”

Makesense Promotions gathered that, Enobore explained that no alcohol drink or cigarettes are allowed in the correctional centres, adding that 12 officers were facing sanctions for breaching the law on trafficking of illegal materials into the facility.

“No alcoholic drink or cigarette is allowed in the facility. Wherever you found them in the yard, they are a product of trafficking and we deal seriously with such issues.

“There is a long list before me now of officers to be dismissed for trafficking. Five will be dismissed while seven others will be reduced in rank,” he said

PoliticsNNPC Apologises To Nigerians Over Bad Fuel, Long Queues by alphonsojaybaz(op): 8:07am On Feb 17, 2022
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has apologised to Nigerians over the importation of the off-spec PMS.

The group managing director of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari, who tendered the apology when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Downstream, said the situation was completely unavoidable as the problem was not envisaged.

He, however, gave assurance that the distribution of petrol would nomalise in the weeks ahead.

“We regret this situation. It is completely unavoidable; we didn’t see it coming. We apologise to Nigerians. We didn’t see this coming,” he said.

Kyari disclosed that before the end of the month, about 2.1 billion litres of the product would have been injected into the system.

“I am assuring more supply plan. 2.1bn litres by the end of this month. We have enough supply. We will normalise distribution. We will contain this development,” he said.

Kyari, who gave a background to the ongoing scarcity, he blamed the situation of the cargo with the high methanol content.

According to him, the withdrawal of the five cargoes created a shortfall in product supply. He however noted that the company had imported a quantity that will close the gap and restore adequate supply.

He, however, explained that the NNPC Ltd had been in a business agreement with all importers and it was a specific requirement that fuel blended with a high quantity of methanol should not be brought into the country.

Earlier, the chairman of the committee, Abdullahi Mahmoud had told the NNPC to be up and doing in its responsibilities.

He said what happened had placed Nigerians in a very difficult situation adding that the country and its people are paying the price for a seemingly deliberate failure.

Some members of the community who expressed their anger said despite NNPC’s explanation and measures to tackle the situation, anybody who neglected his responsibilities must be held responsible.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration to expose culprits responsible for circulation of toxic fuel, just as it said moves to withdraw N201 billion for cleaning up the poisonous fuel is a ploy to siphon money from the national coffers.

PDP also said the APC-led administration is pushing Nigerians to take to the streets in protest against its continued arrogance, alleged corruption, insensitivity to the feelings of the people as well as alleged shielding of those who imported toxic fuel into the country.

PDP national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said it is saddening that the APC administration has continued to turn deaf ears to the cries by Nigerians, just as he expressed shock that the NNPC Ltd is seeking an estimated N201 billion to clean up the adulterated fuel.

Ologunagba in a statement said, “It is clear that this is another ploy by officials of the APC administration to continue to pilfer the national treasury to fund APC’s rigging plans ahead of the 2023 elections as well as to finance the wasteful lifestyles of its leaders to the detriment of other Nigerians.

“Such move by the APC to further fleece the nation amounts to pushing the already exasperated citizens to the wall. The APC government would have nobody but itself to blame over the possible consequences of its continued impunity, insensitivity and disregard to the feelings of Nigerians.

“It is instructive to note that the APC has remained unyielding since our party demanded an investigation into allegations that APC leaders connived with some foreign interests to import very cheap heavily contaminated fuel laden with methanol in their desperation to corruptly raise billions of naira to fund APC’s plots to rig the 2023 general elections.

“Nigerians can recall that our party, well-meaning Nigerians and organisations had exposed and challenged APC’s plot to siphon N2.557 trillion padded as fuel subsidy for 2022. Having been so exposed, the APC resorted to fleecing Nigerians through importation of toxic fuel and now seeks to fritter N201 billion under the guise of cleaning up the adulterated fuel.”

PDP added that the failure of the APC administration to set up an independent commission of enquiry on the “APC Toxic Fuel ImportGate” to ascertain the individuals involved in the deal who undertook the pre-inspection and how much was paid for very cheap contaminated fuel, is fast putting the nation on edge.

“The only way to douse the tension is for the APC administration to heed to demands by Nigerians and expose APC leaders allegedly involved in the importation of the toxic fuel, get them to pay compensation particularly to those whose vehicles and equipment were damaged by the bad fuel as well as bear the cost of the said cleanup.”

The PDP however called for the immediate sack of the minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, for misleading Nigerians and concealing critical information at the onset of this saga, having refused and failed as a public official with duty to Nigerians when he said on national TV that he could not name persons involved in the fraud.”

The PDP also urged President Buhari to hands off responsibilities as minister of petroleum resources and allow competent professionals to man the ministry in order to restore sanity in the system.

“This is because the headship of the Petroleum Ministry as presently constituted is peopled with persons with no relevant education, experience and expertise to manage this critical sector that accounts for over 90 percent of the revenue of the nation,” the party said

Also yesterday, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said the non-oil sector of the Nigerian economy could be stronger, benefitting from its recent growth momentum, higher production from the new Dangote Refinery, and supportive credit policies.

In its executive board 2021 Article IV consultation with Nigeria which was released recently, IMF said Nigeria’s ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) could also yield a positive boost to the non-oil sector while oil production could rebound, supported by the more generous terms of the Petroleum Industry Act.

Nigeria exited recession in the fourth quarter of 2020 and its output rose by 4.1 per cent (y-o-y) in the third quarter, with broad-based growth except for the oil sector, which is facing security and technical challenges.

While growth was projected at 3 per cent for 2021, it stated that headline inflation rose sharply during the pandemic, reaching a peak of 18.2 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in March 2021, but has since declined to 15.6 per cent in December.

The institution attributed this to the new harvest season and opening of land borders, although it noted that the reported unemployment rates (end of 2020) had yet to come down. It, however, confirmed that more recent COVID-19 monthly surveys have shown that employment was back at its pre-pandemic level.

“Despite the recovery in oil prices, the general government fiscal deficit is projected to widen in 2021 to 5.9 per cent of GDP, reflecting implicit fuel subsidies and higher security spending,” the Fund said, adding that the consolidated government revenue-to-GDP ratio at 7.5 per cent remains among the lowest in the world.

“After registering a historic deficit in 2020, the current account improved in 2021, and gross FX reserves have improved, supported by the IMF’s SDR allocation and Eurobond placements in September 2021.

“Notwithstanding the authorities’ proactive approach to contain COVID-19 infection rates and fatalities and the recent growth improvement, socio-economic conditions remain a challenge. Levels of food insecurity have risen, and the poverty rate is estimated to have risen during the pandemic.”

The directors highlighted the urgency of fiscal consolidation to create policy space and reduce debt sustainability risks and called for significant domestic revenue mobilisation.

They said Nigeria’s exchange rate reforms should be accompanied by macroeconomic policies to contain inflation, structural reforms to improve transparency and governance, and clear communications regarding exchange rate policy.

“Directors considered it appropriate to maintain a supportive monetary policy in the near term, with continued vigilance against inflation and balance of payments risks. They encouraged the authorities to stand ready to adjust the monetary stance if inflationary pressures increase,” the consultation noted.

“Directors recommended strengthening the monetary operational framework over the medium term – focusing on the primacy of price stability – and scaling back the central bank’s quasi-fiscal operations. Directors welcomed the resilience of the banking sector and the planned expiration of pandemic-related support measures.

“They agreed that while the newly launched eNaira could help foster financial inclusion and improve the delivery of social assistance, close monitoring of associated risks will be important,” the IMF added.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State yesterday arrested scores of fuel black marketers in Ilorin, the state capital.

They also seized an unspecified number of kegs containing fuel from the black marketers.

The state’s NSCDC commandant, Iskil Makinde, made the arrest of the black marketers public after an on-the-spot assessment visits to some filling stations in Ilorin.

Makinde said his men discovered that while some filling stations were hoarding fuel, others were selling at N250 per litre.

He warned that, henceforth, the corps will deal ruthlessly with filling stations hoarding fuel and creating artificial scarcity of the product in the state.

“The NSCDC task force led by the head of the anti-vandal unit, ACC Ayinde Yusuf discovered that some filling stations had the products but refused to sell while some were selling the product for as high as N250 per litre against the recommended price of N165.

“Those that have the products but chose to hoard it were ordered to start selling, and our teams ensured they emptied their fuel dump before they left the place.

“Also, some were caught selling above the normal price and were asked to revert to the recommended N165,” Makinde stated.

Kaduna residents have continued to face tough times in search of petrol with black marketers selling the commodity for N700/litre.

Our correspondent who went round Kaduna metropolis reported that black marketers with jerry-cans positioned themselves in some locations within the metropolis, selling the commodity to motorists at exorbitant prices.

The long queues in some fueling stations continued as many stations were under lock and key.

It was observed further that few fueling stations with the fuel were selling a litre at N220/N230 to motorists.

Meanwhile, transport fares have risen, with drivers lamenting the scarcity of fuel.

One of the drivers at Command Junction motor park, Television, Ayuba Silas, said: “Now it is N3,000 per passenger from Kaduna to Abuja against N2,500. This fuel scarcity is a serious problem to us commercial drivers. Government should do something urgently.”

Residents of Akure, the Ondo state capital were on Wednesday morning stranded following the fuel scarcity which has made many petrol marketers shut down their stations.

Makesense Promotion’s correspondent who went round the state capital observed that civil servants and others that wanted to catch a bus or taxi to their various offices could not as few commercial vehicles were operating, with most of them queued up at filling stations.

It was observed that most of the filling stations that opened for business were selling from only one or two pumps, prolonging the misery of motorists.

Some of the vehicles had been at the filling stations as early as 5am as long queues were observed along Ondo Road, Cathedral and Arakale, Oba-Adesida roads among others.

Many major bus stops were filled with passengers begging few private vehicles plying major roads for free rides.

Some residents who spoke to Makesense Promotions lamented the suffering being added to the economic challenge they had been facing before.

They called on the federal government to address what they described as an unfortunate development before it gets out of hand.

Fuel scarcity is gradually biting hard in Damaturu and other parts of Yobe State with the resurfacing of long queues in filling stations where the product is available.

Checks by Makesense Promotions revealed that many petrol stations within the metropolis have remained closed over lack of product.

In few other stations where it was available, motorists waited endlessly to get fuel.

Mamman Mohammed, a taxi driver who after spending about five hours, lamented buying a litre of petrol at the cost of N185.

“We do not know what is happening in this country and nobody is saying anything concerning the fuel scarcity”, he lamented.

He appealed to the federal government and other relevant stakeholders in the petroleum industry to come to the aid of ordinary Nigerians who depend on petrol for their daily bread.

Another resident, Abubakar Gujja said he had been in the queue at the NNPC Mega station since morning and eventually got the product at about 11am at the regulated price.

“We don’t know the cause of the scarcity. We just discovered queues in petrol stations since last week; the queue has continued since then,” Abubakar Gujja, a resident, said.

Another taxi driver, Musa Gulani, said, “Let me tell you, I bought a gallon of 5 litres of petrol at N1,200.

“We cannot continue like this; something urgent needs to be done”, he appealed.

Reports indicate that some petrol stations in other parts of the state sell the product at N200 per litre.

RomanceAdvantages Of Getting Married Late by alphonsojaybaz(op): 8:36am On Jan 21, 2022
Advantages of getting married late
source: https://makesensepromotions.com/advantages-of-getting-married-late/

what exactly is the joy of marrying late? Below are some advantages of getting married later in life.

1. You’re more likely to do it right

Couples that marry in their teens or twenties are more likely to struggle because of the rush and inexperience. Marriage isn’t child’s play, so it can fail if the couple is not mature enough to make smart decisions. On the other hand, when you marry late, you will use the experience you’ll get from people around you to build a successful marriage.

2. It’s the best time to settle

Many people talk about your twenties being the best years of your life, but the fact is, your twenties is when you struggle to find yourself. In your twenties, you’ll go in and out of relationships, establish a career and make mistakes. But in your thirties, you’ll have the time and means to do whatever you want to do.

3. You can focus on your career

Career progression takes an enormous amount of time and energy; that’s why the best time to do it is in your twenties. If you first get married early and then focus on your career, you’ll have a hard time being there for your family. But if you do all the grind in your twenties and proceed to settle down after you have achieved your aim, you’ll have the time to raise a family.

4. Marriage is expensive

When couples rush into marriage, the wedding and other expenses they’ll have to cater for can leave them overwhelmed. But when you settle after you’re established, you and your partner will have the funds to handle all the obstacles.
PoliticsGovernors Move To Stop The Planned Protest Over Fuel Price Hike by alphonsojaybaz(op): 7:44am On Jan 21, 2022
Governors Move To Stop The Planned Protest Over Fuel Price Hike

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, who disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday night after a meeting of the forum, said the issue of fuel price increase was a joint decision.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), through the secretary general, Emmanuel Ugbooaja, has however vowed to go ahead with the nationwide protest.

The National Economic Council has recently projected the pump price of petrol will increase from the N162-N165 per litre to N302, which is generating angst among Nigerians.

The governors’ forum has, therefore, decided to engage with labour leaders to find a way around the matter.

Makesense Promotions gathered that, Fayemi said: “The Forum also discussed the issue around petroleum subsidy and concluded to engage the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on how best to address this issue without causing any disaffection to salvaging the Nigerian economy for the Nigerian people at the end of the day.

“So, we shall be engaging Nigeria Labour Congress as subnational leaders with a view to ensuring that the outcome of our engagement will also be fed into the national discourse.”

Asked if the governors were not part of the planned increase, Fayemi said: “To the best of my knowledge, the report you are talking about is not a report from the governors; it wasn’t the report from the Governors’ Forum.

“The national economic council chaired by the vice president of Nigeria has been dealing with this issue over time. And it is not up to the subnational to decide what happens to PMS (premium motor spirit) prices; it is entirely the exclusive responsibility of the federal government.

“However, we are critical stakeholders and we are members of the National Economic Council (NEC) so we contribute to debate in the National Economic Council but ultimately whatever we contribute to, it is the decision of the National Economic Council; it is not the decision of governors, especially in view of the passage of the Petroleum Industry Act – that’s taken out of our hands completely. It’s a matter for the petroleum sector.”

On the position of the governors on subsidy removal, he said: “Well, for us at the Forum, it is a matter that is a going concern. We don’t have a definitive issue on it because it is left for the petroleum industry. It is not for us; NNPC is now a private company and the company should decide what it wants to do with the price of the product; it shouldn’t be the business of the governors.”

The governors also commended the Senate for the quick passage of the electoral bill, stating that it would enable the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to prepare speedily for the 2023 elections.

He said: “On the electoral Act, governors commend the Senate of the Federal Republic for accelerating the removal of the contentious clause in the draft electoral bill and hope that the second chamber, the House of Representatives, will also follow suit, so that the revised electoral bill can return to Mr. President for assent, so that, that can then enable various institutions, particularly INEC, to proceed at pace with the responsibility towards the various elections in 2022 and 2023.”

The NGF chair also revealed that the governors also discussed health issues particularly the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and how to drive vaccination as well as more funding for the states.

He said: “We also discussed the health update, particularly the COVID m-19 infection, and expressed happiness that the current omicron variant has been declining progressively.

“However, we also noted that there’s a need for states led by us to ramp up the COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

“On nutrition, it remains a priority of the government. Governors concluded that we need to increase our support for budgetary provisions for our nutrition.”

Governor Fayemi said that the governors received briefings from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other briefings that will aid the states.

Fayemi further stated that the NGF received briefing on the ease of doing business in the states.

“We received a presentation from the Presidential Enabling Environment Council (PEVEC) on the ease of doing business and discussed the next phase of the ease of doing a business survey with the special adviser to Mr. President on ease of doing business, Dr. Oduwole, and the country director of the World Bank.

“The presentation elaborated the need to step up the reform towards increasing the investment climate at the subnational level.

“Governors also reviewed the recently launched National Development Plan, 2021-2025, with a view to ensuring that the national development plan is aligned into an individual state development plan that has been produced, or in the process of being produced, to ensure synergy between the development efforts by the federal as well as state governments.”

On the power asset crisis, Fayemi said: “Well, assets that we discussed relate to assets from the NIPP which belong to federal, state and local governments.

“And our view is that you cannot dispose of the assets without the concurrence of joint owners of the assets. And we are still on that, because the joint owners at the level of states are still making inputs to a committee that was set up to review this matter and further engage the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, host of those assets, and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

Governors Move To Legislate Against Child Marriage

Also, the governors will adopt and implement free and compulsory education for girls to keep adolescent girls in school.

This was one of the decisions reached by the National Economic Council presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, yesterday.

The council recognised the importance of investing in adolescent girls to accelerate Nigeria’s demographic transition.

In a presentation by the chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon Nasir Isa Kwarra, he said adolescents constitute a population age 10 -19 years and, by estimate, represent 23.4 percent of the total population of Nigeria.

He said addressing adolescent needs and empowering them can quicken the opening of the window of opportunity required to harness a demographic dividend.

Consequently, governors were asked to keep adolescent girls in school through adopt and implementing free and compulsory education for girls to at least a completion of Senior Secondary Education in all the 36 states and the FCT; ensuring availability of appropriate amenities and security in all schools across the country; increased investment in empowering women and girls in and out of school; expanding access to essential primary healthcare services, including reproductive and family planning services and addressing early/child marriage through legislation and advocacy among others.

NEC Takes Position on Fuel Price In June

The National Economic Council (NEC) has dismissed insinuations that it had taken a position on fuel subsidy, saying a decision will be taken in June.

Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, disclosed this to State House correspondents yesterday after a meeting of NEC presided over by vice president Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He also clarified that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) had taken care of some of the contending issues.

He said, “I think in addition to what you have to understand, we didn’t make any presentations on this because there has not been a decision.

“But in reality, all of us Nigerians know that there is now the Petroleum Industry Act, and NNPC has now become, you know, a limited liability company. So NNPC will run differently.

“So, if the Minister of Finance, you know, provides for six months, you probably can understand part of the reason for the provision of six months before NNPC fully takes off, and at that moment, that’s when decisions will be made.

“But I want to make the correction that it is not governors who are making recommendations. It is actually a NEC committee, you know, which comprises all the other people that are looking at this, and no decision has been made, and probably by the time, a decision will be made.

“You know, the Petroleum Industry Act has fully taken charge, and it will not require any recommendation from anybody,” he added.

During his briefing, Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, further explained that the issue of subsidy has been one matter that NEC has deliberated on, for more than a year now.

According to him, there is an ad-hoc committee set up by NEC and headed by Governor El-Rufai that included members of the executive arm of government which worked on recommendations as to what they should do about the costs of petrol.

He said, “The cost of PMS in Nigeria today is about N162 per litre whereas every other country surrounding Nigeria is selling the same product at more than 100 percent of the cost in Nigeria.

“And the country, as at last year, must have spent almost N2 trillion subsidising petroleum products. That is money that could have gone into building roads, money that could have gone into healthcare and education. So, for NEC, the arguments have been put out: should we continue this regime of spending money we do not have to subsidise the living standards of mostly those who have vehicles.

“And when NEC looked at some of the analyses last year, we then realised that less than one-third of the states of this country consume two-thirds of the subsidy. So, the issue of equity also came up.

“All of these findings were presented to NEC, and the deliberations are still ongoing. So, no, NEC hasn’t come up with any decision yet. I think recommendations have also been made to the president. That is what, I am aware, has transpired so far,” he said.

Abdulsalami, Baba-Ahmed Warn Of Hardship, Inflation

Former Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar has warned that the planned increase in petrol price will further push Nigerians into poverty.

General Abdulsalami gave the warning in an address at the Daily Trust Dialogue with the theme 2023: The Politics, Economy and Insecurity.

He said the nation’s insecurity is worsened by the dire economic situation in the country.

He said though the economic growth rates and inflation have improved somewhat, however, there is not much positive impact on the lives and wellbeing of the ordinary Nigerian.

He said unemployment and underemployment remain at record levels, and over 80 million Nigerians are still caught up in needless poverty.

“All of these tend to have negative effects on security. In fact, Nigeria now faces a food security crisis that is compounded by the COVID-19 global pandemic and banditry in many states of northern Nigeria. Both of these have disrupted the fragile value chains across the country and negatively impacted the ability of Nigerians to produce, process, and distribute food.

“The result is a continuing rise in the prices of food items beyond the reach of many Nigerian families.

“On top of all these, fuel prices are expected to rise significantly in the coming months as announced last November by the NNPC. When this happens, as the government has planned, it will push many millions deeper into poverty.

“Young people and women are the demographic groups most affected by the country’s dire economic outlook,” he said.

Speaking on the forthcoming 2023 general elections, he said the worsening economic and security situations in the country during an election year make for a very challenging period for Nigeria that must be carefully managed by all concerned.

“Already, calls for restructuring Nigeria and for reviewing the constitution have reached fever pitch,” he said, adding that there are also calls for how the resources generated in the country are shared by its constituent parts.

General Abdulsalam said while some politicians across all parties are already jostling for power at all levels, some are using inflammatory political rhetoric to achieve their ends, others stoking political fires that will be difficult to put out even after the elections.

“This election year calls for statesmanship and patriotism. It calls for restraint among all politicians in words and deeds. And above all, it calls for serious social and economic programmes that would help pull Nigeria out of the woods.”

The president, Trade Union Congress, Mr Quadri Olaleye has said that the federal government in the last 10 years wasted about $9.5billion for turnaround maintenance of the moribund refineries.

Quadri disclosed this in Abuja, yesterday, at the inauguration of Board of Trustees (BoT) and the new National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

According to him, corruption and inefficiency of those managing the nation’s refineries was responsible for the high importation of petroleum products in the face of four moribund refineries.

He urged the federal government to make conscious efforts to put the four refineries in good shape to encourage private sector participation adding that Nigeria is the only OPEC member country that imports more than 90-95 percent of refined petroleum products for consumption. He noted that the TUC is not against the removal of fuel subsidy by the government if it will yield positive results but that the union is inquisitive as to what the government has to offer following the removal.

Health7 Causes Of Late Menstrual Period Other Than Pregnancy by alphonsojaybaz(op): 9:32am On Jan 18, 2022
You might be unique in that you have more or fewer. Missed or irregular periods must be evaluated in light of your personal norms.

During the first few years after menstruation begins, menstrual periods are frequently irregular. The hormones that control menstruation may take several years to find a balance.

At the other end of the menstrual cycle, menstrual periods can be very irregular. When otherwise regular periods become irregular, many women realize they are approaching perimenopause and menopause. When you haven’t had a menstrual period for 12 months, you’ve reached menopause.

Missed periods are most commonly caused by pregnancy. If you think you might be pregnant, act as if you are until you know for sure. To determine whether you are pregnant, start with a home pregnancy test.

Other causes of missed or irregular periods if you are not pregnant include:

1. Excessive weight loss or gain: A change of more than 10 pounds in either direction may produce missed periods or irregular bleeding. What’s more, the connection between obesity and missed periods is strong enough that some doctors recommend regular checkups when you are not trying to become pregnant, in order to monitor your menstrual cycle’s regularity.

2. Eating disorders: Anorexia or bulemia re eating disorders in which the ability to maintain a normal menstrual cycle is usually interrupted. The problem here lies in the fact that malnutrition and lack of nutrients can cause a disruption in the production of reproductive hormones, or hormones in general.

3. Increased exercise: A significant increase in exercise, especially when it is accompanied by a change in eating habits to match the increased calorie burn can result in missed periods or irregular bleeding. If you are exercising intensely enough to cause delayed menstruation, make sure you are also getting adequate nutrition.

4. Birth control pills: Pills that contain low doses of estrogen will often make periods lighter and reduce the frequency of periods. Pills that contain progestin-only (POPs, Mini Pills) may result in irregular bleeding between periods.

5. Stress: Missed or irregular periods can be related to stress, and may be a sign that you need to relax more and cut down on stress levels. While it’s possible for stress to result in delayed periods, it’s not very likely. If periods are delayed due to stress, they should begin again within two or three months at most.

6. Illness: Missed or irregular periods can be a sign that you’ve been sick and need to allow enough time for your body to recover. Such illnesses may include mononucleosis, pneumonia, diabetes, leukemia or other cancers.

7. Breastfeeding: Most women experience a temporary loss of periods while they are breastfeeding. This is due to changes in hormone levels, and should not be considered abnormal. They will resume menstruating at the time that they would normal

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions (NASU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have directed its member to proceed on a three-day protest over the sharing formula of the recently approved N22.127 billion earned allowances for the four universities-based unions.

The unions had earlier rejected the sharing formula where 75 per cent of the money was allocated to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); leaving 25 per cent for the other three unions.

JAC had in a letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, expressed unfairness in the sharing formula, even as it called for the minister’s intervention on the matter.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, According to a memo to all the branches signed by the NASU general secretary, Prince Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU national president, Comrade Mohammad Ibrahim, its members across the country are to mobilize for a three-day protest starting from Wednesday, November 10, 2022.

Titled “Directive to embark on a three-day protest”, the memo read: “The National leadership of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU & SSANU held Zoom meeting on Monday, November 8, 2021, to review the latest development in our Universities and Inter-University Centres and decided as follows:

“That all our branches should mandatorily call a general meeting of the JAC of NASU and SSANU on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, and from there, declare and commence a 3-day protest from Wednesday, 10th–Friday, November 12, 2021.

“The protest should be centred on the proposed provocative formula to be used for sharing the next tranche of N22.127b to be released by the Federal Government for the payment of Earned Allowance at the rate of 75% to Academics and 25% to Non-Teaching Staff should also be against the refusal on the part of the Federal Government to pay the Arrears of the Minimum Wage Consequential Adjustment as agreed at the last meeting of JAC with the Federal Government on August 26, 2021, at the Office of the Minister of Labour and Employment that the payment would be made to the members of NASU and SSANU before the end of October 2021.

“The protest should be within the campuses and each branch is free to determine the activities that would be carried out on each day of the protest which essentially must take on board the following: Press Conference, Writing and submission of protest letter to respective Vice-Chancellors for transmission to the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prayer Sessions, etc.

“As the branch protest marks the beginning of a series of industrial actions to be undertaken by JAC, you are to await further directives after the 3-day protest as the National JAC leadership will be meeting on Monday, November 15, 2021, and the outcome will be communicated to members. Every branch must comply and adhere strictly to these directives as no excuses will be entertained.”

As hypotheses keep on arising that trucks passing on food from the North are stuck in transit, The Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has ensured Lagosians, saying there will be food security, in spite of the emergency.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, Omotoso on Tuesday asked Lagosians not to freeze, that their prosperity is the State’s first concern and it will maintain it.

Talking as a visitor in a public broadcast on Nigerian Info 99.3FM, he said the Lagos State Government isn’t oblivious of the circumstance and guaranteed residents that it would not be permitted to turn into an emergency.

Asked what the public authority was doing about the matter, he answered, “The public authority knows about the circumstance and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is on top of it. He has started steps to guarantee the matter is settled constantly.”

He additionally encouraged inhabitants to “relax” as Lagos State would keep on setting up offices to guarantee independence in food creation and supply.

The emergency exuded from the conflict of dealers in Ibadan. Food and steers shippers from the North have retained supplies, an activity that has started rising costs. Lagos devours in any event half of agrarian items in Nigeria.

On the arrival of Lekki Concession Company, LCC, to the Lekki Toll Gate, the Commissioner said that as opposed to the misinterpretation in certain circles, the office won’t continue ringing soon, considering its annihilation during the #ENDSARS riots.

He imagined that it would require a very long time before the cost door could be placed fit as a fiddle for full activities. “And still, at the end of the day, there will be a superior ringing framework, with the utilization of innovation,” Omotoso said.

He said fixes would use innovation for better travel insight to kill time wastage and what the anchor of the program, Mr. Jimi Disu, depicts as “stress”.

Omotoso guaranteed Lagosians that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu would do nothing to make Lagosians awkward – in answer to an inquiry that the cost door was “causing pressure”.

This new framework will achieve positive effects on our business, and this is the reason we are accepting it with happiness. The old framework had just brought us torment and distress.”

AITEO Raise Alarm Over Threat To Sabotage 2.5m Crude Oil Production Target In 2020

Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Development Company of Nigeria Limited (“Aiteo”) operators of the pipeline that transport crude oil for export known as the Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) has said that national target of producing and exporting 2.5million barrels by mid 2020 is under serious threat.

The company has identified what it called persistent and sophisticated attract on the pipeline despite significant investments in security, technology and civic engagements as the main source of achieving the set goal.

A statement from the company announcing the development said the disruptions that these attacks have brought about has led to direct, irretrievable and significant losses in production.

The statement signed by Aiteo spokesman, Ndiana Metthew, said, the company is constrained to alert all stakeholders of recent spate of sustained attacks on the key national oil infrastructure in its asset base, the Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL). He noted the consequence such art has created revenue deficits that directly impact all the stakeholders across the relevant value chain.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, According to the company, stated that in 2019 alone, Joint Investigative Visits (JIVs) comprising security and regulatory agencies as well as community representatives and Aiteo personnel to ascertain cause of the breaches to the NCTL have revealed that 98 per cent of all incidences were attributable to third-party infractions alone.

Adding that the amount of barrels lost to these incidents, almost compare in volume to the country’s total daily production.

Part of the statement reads, “By virtue of this level of sabotage, the NCTL has been shut down for 61 days this year alone, constituting 83 per cent cause of downtime in this year only. Over the last 4 years, more than 200 shut down days have been recorded on the asset.

It noted that, despite significant investments in security, technology and civic engagements, the destructive pattern of pipeline vandalization still persists. Stressing that, “These attacks are persistent; sophisticated; appear timed to inflict debilitating and disruptive effect, all indisputably calculated to decimate Aiteo’s production output in the short if not medium term.

It further stated that, “Regrettably, these vicious and malicious exertions by individuals and faceless entities are having that unavoidable effect.

“The disruptions that these attacks have brought about has led to direct, irretrievable and significant losses in production and consequently has created revenue deficits that directly impact all the stakeholders across the relevant value chain.

“The consequences say nothing of the significant negative and inherently damaging effect that these malicious infractions have on the environment.

Speaking of the national implementation, the company said, “Industry sources forecast that Nigeria will be producing at least 2.5m barrels per day (bpd) by the middle of 2020, mainly by fixing damaged pipelines and dealing with security problems.

“In the face of this extremely high level of deliberate sabotage, it seems clear that there are interests within the country that seem determined to scuttle this aspiration.”

The company said this continued sabotage of critical economic oil assets must be confronted frontally, with all resources available to the country as a whole.

“We renew and reaffirm our total commitment to working with all agencies and interest groups to arrest this damaging atrocity. Our assurance to all stakeholders to ensuring a sustainable environment where economic development can thrive remains unassailable. “We acknowledge the assiduous effort of the Joint Task Force and call for wider collaboration between all law enforcement agencies as well as policy alliances between all arms of government to end these economically destructive infractions as soon as is practically possible.

“The losses to us as a commercial concern are significant and potentially irreparable: the losses to Nigeria through the deprivation of revenue as a direct enabler for the improvement of the quality of life of our people is so much greater. The disastrous subsistence of this malaise must be permanently resolved – NOW!.”
