Kano Airport New Terminal 90 Percent Ready – Minister

As part of the ongoing commissioning of projects as the first term of President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration comes to an end, the Minister of State, (Aviation), Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, Sen. Hadi Sirika had revealed that the new airport terminal at the Aminu Kano international airport is 90 percent completed. Speaking at the Commissioning of some projects at the airport, the minister said “This is the first time that Kano has seen this significant progress and perhaps before the end of the year we will finish the international terminal and as you can see that currently, we are just doing the apron where the airplane will taxi and park and when that is done we will be able to deliver that project. So the project is 90 percent completed and we would want to score the 100 percent because the contractor is on site, money is provided, if government will extend to July, it will be possible for us to achieve the 100 percent just like we did for Port Harcourt and Abuja.” He further noted that “Kano is part of 157 projects initiated and undertaken by the government in aviation sector between 2015 and 2019. “Out of these 157 projects, 134 have been completed 100 percent. Some of them were inherited projects that we finished and most of them were new projects that we started and completed by the grace of God 100 percent. ” The remaining balance are in excess or most of them are in excess of 50 per cent and very few of them below 50 per cent completion. “We are in Kano because in Kano, we have done a lot. Few of them for example under NiMet, we have commissioned the regional office which will serve the seven north western states. “Under AIB, we have also commissioned the office which will also serve this zone and I think AIB has four offices in Lagos, Enugu, Abuja and Kano and we have commissioned that of Kano. ” Also, on the part of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), we have commissioned the DVOR which is the Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Radio Range equipment and the Instrument Landing System equipment and the radios for communication. These things that we do in aviation most of them are not things that the passenger or traveling public can notice and see because there are remote away from sight but they make aviation very safe and secure and also in addition very precise. They intended to bring down airplanes safely and also take them up to their various destinations. This is part of what we do that passengers don’t see. “So, more than 90 percent of what we do are off the eyes of the people. Aviation is not about terminal building, it is about quite a number of things that are working together. Terminal building itself is of significant importance because it creates the atmosphere and the ambience to drag towards us the people who would be flown all over the place. In that way it makes our jobs worth it and also it makes us improve upon our services and then our revenue generation.” Also speaking, the managing director of FAAN, Capt.Rabiu Yadudu said “we are going to commission all the completed projects that have been undertaken in the last four years. A lot have been commissioned along the line but on this day, we said we should complete it. Other projects commissioned include the Genre Aviation Terminal, (GAT) in Makia, Kano; Fire and Rescue Station, General Aviation Terminal, Abuja Airport; Independent Power Plant, Abuja Airport; Domestic Terminal D, Abuja Airport; and the Accident Rescue Centre at the Abuja airport.

PRESIDENT BUHARI’S DESPERATION TO WIN CAUSED ELECTION POSTPONEMENT - CUPP
source : http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2019/02/president-buharis-desperation-to-win.html

The Coalition of United Political Parties has claimed that the desperation of President Muhammadu Buhari and his men to win the presidential election, by all means, was responsible for the last minute postponement of the election.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, The coalition’s spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, made the allegation in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday morning.

He said, “In their bid to once again foist an unpopular government on Nigerians, they threw caution to the winds and started setting electoral materials on fire in states that are well known to be strongholds of opposition.

“These acts of sabotage, no doubt, ruined the preparations of the Independent National Electoral Commission for the elections.

“We have raised the alarm many times that agents of the government were working hard to ensure that elections are not held or are declared inconclusive in areas they know that the All Progressives Congress will never win. We have been vindicated.

We blame the international embarrassment this last minute postponement has caused the nation on the President, the desperate leaders of his party, APC, and the nation’s security agencies who failed woefully in their duties to protect electoral materials and INEC offices from attacks by these enemies of the nation.”

Ugochinyere added that with the postponement, “President Buhari’s judgement day with the people has just been shifted.”

He, however, said the INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, displayed courage by shifting the election.

He said the postponement averted what he could have resulted to “national bloodshed because we are aware that APC wanted to proceed with election after compromising distribution and destroying materials in over 15 states.”

A meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Governor’s Forum to resolve the raging dispute over the proposed N30,000 National Minimum Wage ended in a deadlock on Monday in Abuja.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa.

The Chairman of the NGF, and Governor of Zamfara State, Mr Abdulazeez Yari, led a smaller team of governors to the meeting to speak for the Forum.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, Those at the meeting included Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode; Kebbi State Governor, Mr Atiku Bagudu; and the Enugu State Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, was also at the meeting.

Recall that the majority of the 36 state governors had maintained that they could only afford to pay N22,500 as the NMW.

They had also stated that the other options were for them to reduce their workforce or the Federal Government would have to review the revenue sharing formula to make more money available to the states.

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Kayode Fayemi, is one of the key proponents of a revenue formula review.

Signs of a deadlock at the meeting was noticed when the governors emerged wearing long faces and refused to formally address State House correspondents.

One after another, Yari and his colleagues declined to talk.

Similarly, the President’s Media Office, which earlier promised to brief reporters on the outcome of the meeting, also kept mum after the meeting.

As of the time of filing this report, the media office had yet to respond to any inquiries.

However, findings indicated that pressure was put on the governors to move up to N24,000, a middle course the federal government was said to be disposed to as the NMW.

SEE WHY AWAWA BOYS RETURNED TO AGEGE COMMUNITY
source: http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/11/see-why-awawa-boys-returned-to-agege.html

According to Eyes Of Lagos’s exclusive report on the return of the notorious youth populated gang known as Awawa Boys to Agege community and the eventual arrest of about 40 suspects by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, recent developments have showed the real reasons why the gang returned unhindered.
Some residents noted that the community is no longer secured as the gang members now operate with reckless abandon and the Police operatives cannot contain the excesses of the gang.
According to Eyes Of Lagos sources, the Awawa Boys operated freely in the community as a result of the recent changes in the operations of the officers attached to the newly reformed Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LNSC).
Commenting on the development, a top source of the LNSC said the Awawa Boys grew stronger about five months ago when the LNSC team were curtailed from operations. “Agege had known peace and calmness before the changes made to the operations of the LNSC. Before that time, the team usually embarks on monitoring and intense patrol raiding the black spots with great success,” the source said.
“It was until a mandate surfaced from the Area Command to suspend any form of operation in the community. This mandate crippled the activities of LNSC, making the officers helpless as any form of operation carried out will be termed illegal.
“The LNSC is the closest to the community and has detailed information on any street urchin including their family house if any. The gang members have nowhere to hide because they live in the neighbourhood,” the source added.
Also speaking on the development, another official of the LNSC said the “Police cannot handle those boys. The Police have arrested them several times and they get bailed in the end. By so doing, they are used to the Police system of operation and often brag about it.”
Meanwhile, Eyes Of Lagos learnt that some community leaders in Agege community have commenced moves to find a lasting solution to the activities of the dreaded Awawa Boys in the community.
Recall that Eyes Of Lagos reported how the Awawa Boys robbed unsuspecting residents disposing them of their valuables in Agege community. At the time, sources said the gang also vanldalised properties of some traders around major markets in the axis.

N5.8 BILLION SCANDAL: PDP ASKS YEMI OSINBAJO TO MAKE REFUNDS
source; http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/11/n58-billion-scandal-pdp-asks-yemi.html

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, as a preacher, should “search his soul, seek forgiveness and make restitution for entangling himself in corruption and sharp practices, instead of his lame effort at concealment in the N5.8 billion Northeast Intervention Fund scandal.”
Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, The party in a statement on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it was heart-rending that Prof. Osinbajo, despite his sanctimonious posturing, is being fingered in the frittering of the N5.8 billion meant for the purchase of food and general welfare of suffering Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the northeast.
“Prof. Osinbajo should know that he has come to the end of the road and that Nigerians have completely lost faith in him, since the House of Representatives exposed his complicity in this unpardonable debauchery against weak and vulnerable citizens.
“Instead of asking for forgiveness and making restitutions, Prof. Osinbajo is busy trying to divert attention from the reeking corruption of the Buhari administration, while bandying figures in an attempt to distance himself from the failures of this administration.
“Is it not revealing of the arrogance of this administration that Prof. Osinbajo, even in the face of indictment by the House of Representatives, still conjures the temerity to confront Nigerians and try to wave off this corrupt act?
“We ask: how can Prof. Osinbajo find inner peace when all the six states of the northeast reported that they never received the emergency intervention for food security?
“From the probe, which exposed how the Vice President, then as Acting President, in 2017, drew N5.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation, without the appropriation of the National Assembly, only to superintend over the purported spending as the Chairman of Board of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), it is clear that it was never in the interest of the suffering and displaced masses.
“The PDP therefore expects Prof. Osinbajo to end his grandstanding, show remorse and make restitutions for this debauchery against humanity,” the PDP said.

Onlookers were left stunned during a court hearing yesterday, Thursday, November 15, 2018, when a medical practitioner, Elizabeth Olatunji, narrated to the Lagos State Special Offences Court how a 51-year-old electrician, Folorunsho Oluwaseun, sexually assaulted his 17-year-old daughter for over six years.
The suspect, Oluwaseun is standing trial before Justice Sybil Nwaka on charges of defilement and sexual assault.
According to Eyes Of Lagos reports gathered, Oluwaseun allegedly committed the offence at his No. 40 Popoola Street, Offin residence in the Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland.
During the hearing, the prosecutor, B. T. Boye, and the medical personnel who works at the Department of Family Medicine, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, said the forensic examination conducted on the victim indicated a long and repeated penile penetration, which lasted for six years.
Olatunji, who also works at the Mirabel Centre, where rape victims in the state are referred to, noted that the medical examination showed that the victim sustained an injury to her private parts, adding that the defendant also assaulted the victim’s sister.
“The main finding was on the hymen. There was a transition on the hymen. The victim told me that she was angry. She said her father was not only sexually assaulting her; he was also assaulting her younger sister. She said her father began to sleep with her not long after her mother left them.
“The girl also said that when the matter persisted, she reported to her grandmother but the grandmother ignored her and only said that there was no cause for alarm as long as her father did not get them pregnant,” the medical doctor told the court.
Meanwhile, during cross-examination by the defence counsel, Worer Obuagbaka, Olatunji insisted that the victim told her that it was her father who assaulted her, adding that the medical test conducted showed that there was penile penetration, which caused injuries to the victim’s hymen.
Obuagbaka, however, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him prepare his client and present his witnesses.
The case was then adjourned till December 18, 2018, for the continuation of trial by Justice Nwaka

In the ensuing argument, one of the policemen posted on guard duty at the school, Inspector Sunday Ogwuche, intervened but unfortunately, he was attacked by these yet to be identified persons,” part of the statement read.

Oti added that; “These men, not done with humiliating the Inspector of police, still went ahead to put his picture on the social media to give live to their lies.

“Although the picture they circulated contradicted their allegations because the officer wasn’t seen in the said picture yanking off posters from the wall, yet these mischief makers desperate to cause disharmony in a peaceful state, went ahead to portray an innocent middle ranking officer of the Nigeria Police in a most uncharitable manner with an intent to cause a breach of the public peace.”

He concluded saying; “The Command wishes to assure Lagosians, especially politicians, that it will discharge its duties firm and fair to all inhabitants of the state while warning those using the social media to fuel hatred and incite the public, to desist from such acts as the Command will not stand idly by and watch them cause civil strife. The Command has always been apolitical and would ever remain so.”

He told News Agency of Nigeria that the beneficiaries were selected out of no fewer than 6,000 applications, adding that the number of awardees had increased from 43 in 2017.
He said: “Last year we had 43 and this year it is an increase of 10, to 53, which is great.
“It means that the standard is very high because over 6,000 people applied for Chevening Scholarship this year.
“To get 53 scholarships this year is a real bonus and it is wonderful that so many young, intelligent and bright Nigerians want to study in the UK.
“Over 6,000 applications.
“This is the highest number anywhere in the world actually.”

The envoy disclosed that only one person with disability had been awarded the scholarship in the last 20 years in Nigeria.
He said: “We have increased the number of women from 33 per cent to 40 per cent.
“Our target next year is 50 per cent.
“It is so important that Nigeria encourages girls to go into education.
“There are 12 million Nigerian children who do not go to school and the majority are girls and women.
“It is therefore really important that we do everything we can to encourage girls to get the education they need.”
Arkwright expressed hope that Nigeria would get a good proportion in the increase of the scholarships to 100 in Africa as recently announced by British Prime Minister, Theresa May.
Arkwright also said that no fewer than 15,000 Nigerian students were currently studying in different universities in the UK, adding that a lot of people were taking advantage of British universities.
He added: “I would like to increase that number.
“Britain is a very welcoming place for students.
“We like to encourage more people to apply.”

Adelegan was awarded a scholarship at Leeds Business School for the 2016/17 academic year.
She said: “The opportunity Chevening scholarship gives is to experience global best practices.
“It is not just about the UK but people get to mix and learn from others.
“There are leaders that are willing to make a difference and that is why with Chevening, you must come back to your country to make the difference.”
Adelegan encouraged more women to apply for the scholarship and advised the new scholars to make the most of the opportunity given to them through the scholarship.
One of the scholarship awardees, Lilian Umeakunne, who is also a crop farmer, said she got a scholarship to study Food Security in the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
Umeakunne said: “The process of applying for the scholarship takes you through a path of self-discovery and you do not have to know anybody to apply.
“I had to search within, know what exactly I wanted to do with my life to try to answer the four essay questions, gave examples of the work I had done, the impact and results achieved during the interview.”
Umeakunne said she had spent more than six years working with women farmers and hoped to apply her new skills to address challenges faced in the agriculture sector.
She added that she was a first-time applicant.
Another recipient, Damian Ohienmhen, who is a co-founder of Nugenesis Energy, was also awarded a Masters scholarship in Sustainable Energy at the University of Glasgow.
Ohienmhen said he had applied for the scholarship for three consecutive years before being finally rewarded.
He said: “I was fortunate to be selected for the interview.
“I actually applied three times in a row and I was always rejected.
“No one tells you why but I realised that my application became stronger each time I applied and I am glad because I grew as a person and my desire to study in the UK gained greater clarity.”
Ohienmhen advised aspiring applicants and those whose applications were not accepted not to be discouraged.
The Chevening Scholarships Programme commenced in 1983 as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Awards Scheme and is funded by the British Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Residents belonging to Igbehin Community Association (CDA) in Mushin, Lagos Mainland have protested the two weeks total blackout in their area while urging Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), to provide prepaid meters for residents.
The aggrieved residents stated that they were tired of estimated and outrageous billing given to them by EKEDC demanding that prepaid meters be provided for the entire community.
Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, According to the Secretary of the CDA group, Mr. Kayode Ogunbola, the community had written series of letters to the company stating their plight but it has yielded no result.
“We are tired of crazy bills because we pay for light we did not consume. For more than one week now, we have been in darkness as EKEDC has disconnected us completely. We need prepaid meters to enable us to pay for only what we consume,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Grace Olajide while lamenting the high estimated bills she receives said: “The bills they bring to us for the past two months have been unbearable. They charge us as high as N7,500 and the light is not constant. For past one week now, they have refused to give us light.
“We went to EKEDC headquarters to plead with the managing director that our bills should come down to N5,000 because that is the money we can afford, but the MD’s response was that we should go back home to pay the current charges, else they will seize light from our community.”
