Please I really want to understand the demerit of non accompanying spouse. I am currently on 450 now with spouse spoints without IELTS. But if I calculate without my husband points it will be 469. House I need advice. What if I get ITA and by God's grace PR how do I bring my spouse over. I have a baby and from my understanding the baby is NT an issue. I really want to know before we update the express entry account. I am honestly mentally tired. My husband is having issues with ielts. Am just tryn to think of a way out of all this.
spousal application after landing can take up to two years to process. Not sure there are any other hassles asides the processing time. You may get more answers from the express entry thread and the link below

Abeg, who is better?

In all fairness Messi is one in a billion but Ronaldo is people's choice.

Both are great players. Cr7 has performed with different teams and country, why Messi is almost invisible outside Barcelona where he has turned himself to Kingmaker.

But you don't know what field OP's wife is in and how many years experience & qualifications she had from home..

The fact is we know people with the same and even better qualifications than my wife who are still searching.

We are not under any illusion that this was by our own making (that's why I shared it as a testimony). There really is no guaranteed certain path. We can only do the best we can and leave the rest to God.

This was her very first Canadian interview.

The moral of the whole story here is Don't limit or constrain yourself by other people's experience

hmmm, all these recent posts here.. We refuse to be discouraged embarassed embarassed

Me and my family will excel in Canada ! They shall be no better yesterday for us, Amen. We'll take on the challenges and excel exceedingly, Amen

I will come back and quote this message in testimony, some time in the near future smiley smiley

I agree with you. There is power in the spoken word with faith. The world was created by the spoken word and we can speak into our future.

This has worked times without number for my family. Let me share the most recent testimony here.

My wife had planned to start working in October and so by september, we started looking for a dayhome. So when we'd talk to friends that we need a dayhome by october as my wife will be working by then, they'll say congrats! Which company? then we'd say none yet, but we believe. Some have this look, some will say we like your faith but we just kept believing.

Come october, we started dropping little one in dayhome (even though not one interview yet), and 2 weeks into it, a company who had sent a regret letter a month back without any phone or in person interview, sent an email for an interview. She went and the next day she was given an offer (6 figure range). She resumed in the same october and later found out that every other person does at least two or more interviews with the company, she did just one.

So please keep this up. Looking forward to when you'll share your testimony.

It is unfair...but to be frank, even if we cut the salaries of the National Assembly and PRESIDENT, at best we would get something like N500billion. Meanwhile , universites need at least N1.5 trillion annually in extra funding to run well (according to the 2009 ASUU-fg agreement..which was signed when oil was at $140 the previous year).

Frankly speaking, I have no idea. Taxes, unfortunately, is the only way we can raise money for now, without having to take even more loans.

Adding more water trying keep a leaking basket full is an exercise in futility. Can we say this will solve everything with all the monies and loans they have taken in the past?

N.B This is the part where I tell you to go into poltics, and agitate for good governance...

Plus, inasmuch as they are all corrupt....the fact is, oil has been crashing since 2014. Our revenues are falling. And money has to be found somehow.

I like how you state the facts. But if a select few messed things up, why does everyone have to bear the brunt?

"Found somehow" can be the same potiticians that stole everything to reduce their salaries to reflect the reality. Or luxury taxes or even stop over inflation of projects and budget padding. But we know these ones may not even be paying taxes at all.

Passing the buck down to the commom man to raise more money for them to steal is unfair.

Supervsa is a long thing. I used visitor visa and it's valid for 5 years.

For supervisa, you need to have a certian minimum income for three straight years to apply for your parent and the process takes a lot longer. I applied for MIL a month after we arrived and it was approved.

We did not do any health insurance for her so I don't think it's compulsory.

@guitarlife2 thank you for sharing those valid points. Your point 2 about MSc BSc
Most jobs in Canada do not require an MSC so please loose the MSC and put ur BSC

My husband studied BSc Computer Information System and MSc Purchasing and Supply chain management, with professional certification. His only work experience is with his MSc qualification and he has 5yrs experience. So, how will he go about putting his BSc he has no work experience in against his MSc in his CV. Cheers

I would say in this case, since the masters degree is related, He should be fine. Just to target his cv as best he can.

One other thing I noticed. As Canadian experience gives an edge, it may help to remove country of experience from your profile if you don't have it. [s]Let me not say if your experience is only Naija. [/s]

I know a couple of people that did this and by the time the recruiter asks, you have already made your first impression on your own terms. Not where they just skip over you all together without even having a chat.

Oh ok. So I'm guessing you didn't include your education at all since you graduated in 2006. Am I right?

I put my education. On my cv, education comes last. Profile summary, skills, work experience, education. So it's work experience that starts from 2015.

@Iyamefa there is no C of O in her name, the house she stays is in her child's name. She also does not have any account running. Please I need your advise on how to go about this. She was a trader before she retired. No documentation whatsoever.

This was the same case with my MIL. I just said i will be responsible for all expenses. In the question mark on the form, they will accept a letter from you in lieu of all that. So we did not put any C of O, work records or account balance for her.

I included my bank statement in the application. The process took about a month and she just recently returned back to Naija.

It's a lot easier for parents to get visa than siblings.

This is true. Please how do you reduce your years of experience or take out an an education such as a Masters degree from your resume without creating a gap in your resume? I've been worried about how to do this. Also, won't the recruiter check out your linkedin profile? Please help!!

Yes, they will check. You can create another linkedin profile. If you chose to keep your old one, remove your picture and you can just leave your initials.

As per gaps... In my case graduated 2006. Modified cv starts from 2015. I did not put any gaps in between relevant experience. If they asked i would have told them I worked in a different sector and as this is my chosen field I did not bother to include it..but they did not.

Great piece there, but I will disagree slightly with the quoted.

If by any means you can pursue a Masters degree on arrival, please kindly do. There are range of reputable companies that recruits and demands for the most recent transcripts that you have to influencing considerations for entry level jobs and junior role jobs. Did I also miss to tell you that you also have the opportunity of pursuing a co-op Maters that can grant you the needed leg in the door? You also can be hired or make necessary industrial contacts via your research(if research masters) or through career fairs targeted at students and colleges. Finally, there is this unofficial sentiments for Canadian graduates.

A person with a MSc will automatically be better placed in comparison with a BSc holder when every other boxes are equally ticked.

I do agree that most jobs gives a baseline qualification for BSc. but if you were an an employer, will you not rather employ a MSc. holder for same cost and while considering the added value in the long run?

Indeed many factors plays out, Having an added degree is a coloured feather.

At the bolded, it may happen in naija but here you may be seen as a flight risk. They will feel you won't be happy because you are being paid less than you are worth and will leave the moment you get what you want.

That's why in some cases you find out you will need to have a survival cv for a survival job.

I know of someone who had to reduce years of experience to get a role with IBM.

I don't think he is trying to say Masters is useless..but more like targeting your resume. If a position asks for 4 years experience, saying you have 15 years may not work in your favour.

Modified: As someone has earlier said that his company will spend over 20,000 dollars to train him. In these days of Data Analysis and Lean six sigma, companies don't just view recruitment as "hit and miss", they look at it as an investment. They look at the cost in placing adverts (that's why they take refferals serious as it saves them that cost), they look at the man hours to review cv and conduct interviews, then look at the cost to train you. Most companies estimate that the first three months you are not working to your full potential, so that's a loss they are willing to take knowing you will add value later.

So going with this scenario, the company would have spent close to 30,000 or more to recruit this person. Now if the person leaves after three months, that's all money down the drain. Also the HR personnel looks bad for costing them money and not doing his/her job.

This is why here, a well targeted cv cannot be overemphasized. It could be reducing your experience, or even inflating it.

I also know someone that made the switch to project management, claimed 7 years project experience and is doing well.

The goal is to appear to be the best candidate for the role..but please, limit it to what you can defend or quickly learn.

What's PSW pls and as a Logistics supervisor in Nigeria with good knowledge of IT support, what part can I switch to on the survival job pls bro.

Just to add to what @Salford1 has said, unlike in Naija where a versatile cv makes you stand out, if the IT support was not related to logistics, here you will be seen as a risk as you can swap industries in an instant.

You may need to create different cvs. One solely logistics, the other soley for IT support.

I will also advise people searching to get the resume of someone already in their target profession. It will not only help you tailor yours, you can see some skills that you have and you overlooked, and skills you may need to learn.

In my case, I started in IT, then oil and gas and project management. After arriving, i decided IT was the best path to take for me. So i got someone's cv, brushed up on my IT skills (had not written any code in 8 years) did a certification, created a new linkedin profile, restricted it solely to IT and limited it to three years. I was contacted by a recruiter on linkedin the same week and eventually got the job (after 5 stages).

My Landing Story
It has been really expensive commuting by Uber as we are yet to get our bus pass. All that will be sorted this week though.
We are optimistic that everything will fall in place one step at a time, with God.

I found out it's a lot cheaper using rentals than Uber. They (Enterprise) accept Naija driving license as well. The time my Cargo arrived, Uber was gonna cost 120 to 150 cad while rental was 30cad (depending on the type of car) for 24 hrs. I have gotten rentals for as low as 17cad for 24 hrs. So it's really good for family outings. We planned rentals for days when we had plenty errands to run.

It also helps you get familiar and comfy with driving pending when you get a car as I was successful at advanced road test at first attempt.

Modified: If you are considering using rentals, when getting a credit card, get the option that comes with rental insurance. RBC for e.g has one that has an annual fee of 35cad (It may be cheaper with other banks). Full rental insurance with Enterprise (optional but advisable) per day is 25cad so it pays for itself with change in 2 days.

thanks for this information
but please i have some questions

what if the insurance name is in my spouse's name? can i use it?
Does the record have to be recent?

For que 1. I doubt it because it means your spouse is the one with a clean record and not you. Unless it was joint insurance as they have that option here as well.

The one i used expired in 2018. So it's worth trying since it's combined with the frsc clean record.

Hi guys,

Is it true that drivers license and letter from FRSC does not necessarily work in calgary?

If yes, what are the options.

Just to add to what @ tempest01 wrote. In addition to FRSC letter, if you get at least one year insurance driving record from naija with no claims, you can further drop your insurance rate. Mine went from 180cad to 62cad per month with both.
