Wetin una wan person wey chop Anambra LGAs money for 7.5 years to talk? Baba run Anambra LGAs with caretaker for over 7 years only to conduct election about 6 months to the end of his tenure.
He can’t tweet against the judgement considering the widespread support the decision has received and he can’t tweet in support as it would be hypocritical of him. He will sit this one out till the noise is over.
Standing5: The ruling only guarantees more evenly spread of loots and not much more.
At least, only one person in the state won’t be taking everything. Local governments at local levels will have more money and more relevance. People will now be interested in becoming LGAs Chairmen and councillors. The local government chairman of my area lives two streets away from me. We can easily see what comes to the council after every FAAC meeting. Organizing community members to beat him up if he start stealing the money shouldn’t be difficult. That’s the essence of the councils. Bringing government to the grassroots
The 774 local government chairmen, councillors and local government workers all over the country will lead Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign to the envy of opposition elements 🤣🤣🤣
After the Supreme Court yesterday gave a landmark judgment granting financial autonomy to Local Government Councils across the country, local government workers in Abia state were captured on video rejoicing and singing President Bola Tinubu’s praises.
The excited workers couldn’t hide their joy as they trooped out to celebrate other outcome of the court case. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of the amelioration of the sufferings they have endured under the Labour Party governor that has hijacked the council funds without paying workers that salaries for month.
DMerciful: You think the local govt chairmen will use the money for the masses? Currently we have 21 states with caretaker chairmen, will their allocation be withheld?
Are the governors using the LGA funds they are stealing for the masses?
IkeOnyia: Scrapping of SIECs is unlikely because such a constitutional amendment still needs at least 24 states to ratify it and your guess is as good as mine as to whether most governors want INEC to be given the legal responsibility of conducting local government elections in their states.
Ojuntana: I'm surprised that so many people think Local governments are independent from their states. Nothing can be further from the truth. I have reproduced here the relevant section that created and recognizes the local governments in our constitution.
Read section 7 of our constitution below.
From the above section, it is clear that:
1. States are responsible for the continued existenc and functioning of Local Governments 2. Economic planning of the local government is subject to a law enacted by the State Assembly 3.The right to vote and be voted for or the conduct of elections is to be granted and protected by the state. 4. Funding of local governments is a responsibility of the state government.
From the above, it is clear that the idea that local governments are autonomous or financially independent of the states is an aberration to the Constitution. The Local govts are no more than administrative units under the states. The Supreme Court got it fatally wrong.
Go to the Supreme Court and explain this to them since you know more than the honorable Justices of the Supreme Court.
Same Tinubu will back track when politicking comes in.
Those satanic governors will threaten him with the second term reelection
You obviously don’t know Bola Tinubu. That guy’s strong head pass zuma rock. He will start the implementation starting this month. The Tinubu you see looks like someone that gives a fvck about state governors?
He now has the backing of 774 local government chairmen who are no longer attached to the governors. Those chairmen will do everything to ensure the president is re-elected because that’s the only way to ensure this decision is not reversed.
Thank you Mr. President. You do this one for Nigerians. One more thing to complete what you’ve started. Amend the constitution to scrap SIEC and allow INEC to conduct LGA elections going forward. It is now left for Nigerians to monitor those elected into local government councils.
The chairman of my local government lives two street away from me. Once he start misbehaving or showing signs of extravagant living, na to mobilize boys go beat am for him house. No more nonsense at local government level. Ntoor to rogue governors.
wallrichy: It's a wonderful judgement by the supreme Court. However, it's an impetus for another do or die contest for local government chairmanships. The governors would do everything humanly possible to influence the local government chairmanships election. They would do all to impose their stooges as chairmen, those idiots they can control and even instruct them to bring some of the money. This is an open avenue and if effectively followed up can make every local government develop. It can provide infrastructure to rural areas and make them more attractive for residence to live in thereby reducing congestion in the Cities. It would also enhance security, accord people to function effectively while also making allowance for provision of employment. It's more of a positive competition with the governors in alleviating the living standard of the citizens. Summarily, it's a good judgement but I have my reservation and that's Nigeria. Nigeria has a thing against developments, against good thing, against anything progressive. However I think, who knows, probably this could be an exception. Hope the Poor will eventually breathe if they can still stay alive for a little while.
That is why there is a proposal to amend the Constitution to scrap SIEC and empower INEC to conduct all local governments election. SIEC is an aberration that needs to go.
Omooba77: Supreme Court Judgment How will LCDA /A:rea council be funded?
LCDAs were created out of LGAs. The law creating the LCDAs already made provisions for how allocation will be shared. The money will go into the designated LGA account and it will then be shared among the LDAs created out of the LGAs.
braveboi4life: Can they also rule that State independent electrola commission stops conducting LG elections and it should conducted alongside tue General election?
Only an amendment to the constitution can make that happen.
Odingo1: You need to understand how Abuja been the capital of Nigeria help to develop nearby villages into mega cities in Abuja. This is common reasoning. Must all those places you mentioned be part of federal capital territory. Is qwagwalada, inyanya part of Abuja fct before development reach there.
What is the distance from VI to Ikeja, Festac town was built by FG including Alaba, Ikeja, third mainland bridge was developed as satellite town of Lagos FCT, stop lying to yourself.
You are a complete olodo. FCT is made up of six area councils namely: AMAC, Bwari, Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji. All these areas are in Abuja and part and parcel of the Federal Capital Territory Administration. They don’t fall under any other state except Abuja. Nyanyan is under AMAC area council.
Your ignorance is appalling and disgraceful. You should not be taking when enlightened people are talking. Western region and Lagos state governments developed Ikeja, Ikorodu, Yaba, VI, Lekki, Magodo etc and not FCT.
Odingo1: You guys like arguing what is obvious, if Lagos was not the former capital of Nigeria for more than 30 years, it would have look like any other state in Nigeria. Abuja developed in everybody eyes do to movement of capital from Lagos to Abuja. Oil money was heavily invested in Lagos for more than 30 years and that makes Lagos what is it today.
You are the ones arguing against what is obvious. Lagos state was never FCT. Only Lagos Island, Ikoyi and a part of VI was FCT. Ikeja, Opebi, Magodo, Oshodi, Agege, Yaba, Mushi, Lekki, Ajah, Ikorodu, Epe, Ketu, Abule Egba, Iju Ishaga etc were part of western region and not your utopia FCT. Stop the nonsense misinformation. Only two local governments out of the current 20 LGAs in Lagos state was FCT.
Odingo1: Lagos was the former capital of Nigeria for more than 30 years, all oil Nigeria money was invested invested in Lagos to make a befitting capital. Calabar was just a capital for few years before almagamation of Nigeria. That is what gave Lagos a lead as most developed state, the same way Abuja is been built with Nigeria wealth.
The bridge in question is located in Opebi-Mende. Now tell me, was Opebi ever part of Federal Capital Territory at any point in Nigeria’s history?
Lagos state is not a former Federal Capital Territory. Opebi where this bridge is located was never at any point under federal capital administration. Stop the lies and hold your useless SE governors accountable.
Not just Nigeria but the entire world. He is Constantine, Alexander the Great, Jesus Christ and Mohammed rolled up into one. The 21st century Agulu savior of humanity.
