The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto presided over by Justice Muhammad Shuaibu has dismissed the appeal filed by governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara, Dr Dauda Lawal, challenging the nullification his candidature.

In a unanimous judgement by the panel of judges, Justice Shuaibu said the appeal was an abuse of judicial process and lacked merit.

Shuaibu further explained that the apeallant had no right to appeal the judgement he had already complied with.

He noted that the appeal was an academic exercise and therefore awarded N100,000 against the appeallant to be paid to the respondents .

Ibrahim Shehu a gubernatorial aspirant of PDP in Zamfara state had challenged the emergence of Dr Dauda Lawal, a PDP candidate in the state saying the election that returned him was marred by irregularities and non compliance with electoral act and PDP guidelines.


He had approached a Federal High Court Gusau which later nullified the primary and ordered PDP to conduct a rerun within 14 days .

PDP complied with the judgement, conducted the rerun and Dauda Lawal reemerged. Shehu again approached the same High Court insisting there was no election. The high court ruled in his favour saying PDP has no governorship candidate for 2023 election.

Responding, the lawyer to the appeallants, Aminu Aliyu, said his client had opportunity of appealing the judgement in Supreme Court.


Also lawyer to the respondents Ndiana Anaka said the judgement was a victory for democracy and rule of law.

He said “what is right is right and what is wrong.”

He also said he will not be a part of any APC Governorship campaign in Rivers State because Wike has over performed as a governor under PDP and any other party wanting to contest the Governorship position with the PDP Governorship candidate in Rivers State, would just be wasting their time and resources.

The part in bold is not a very sensitive thing to say no matter what. Amaechi and other members of APC in Rivers state are loyal members of the party. It is not right to be spitting on their faces just because we want Wike to support Tinubu. There are better and more diplomatic ways of doing things without offending others.

Not only the indigenes make up the entire population in the state.
Just the way non-indigenes are in there millions in Lagos and Kano, same applies in other far Northern states.

No region has experienced religious crisis like the Northern region. Hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost in the North in numerous religious crisis in Kano, Bauchi, Plateau, Kaduna etc.
My mum told us how my elder brother was nearly killed by Muslims in a religious crisis in Bauchi, far back in 1995.
The Hausas and Northern Muslims do not hesitate to attack Christians at any slightest provocation. I'm sure you're aware of Deborah's case, there are thousands of unreported situations like that happening in the far north.
So you should know that the issue of religion is very sensitive to an average Northern Christian, especially the ones from NE and NW.

No sane Northern Christian will vote such ticket, for the sake of their lives and properties.

What exactly is your point? Christians in Bauchi will vote Peter Obi because he’s a Christian or what? See, nobody is voting for a nyamiri in the north irrespective of religion. Gombe and Bauchi have benefited tremendously from the APC administration. Both states must do everything to ensure APC remains the party in charge of the Federal government.

This is just a mere academic judgement that can’t be implemented. It’s already 95 days to election so what’s the point of the judgement?

In 2015 Jonathan lost Kwara, Kogi, Adamawa and Benue. These are states he won in 2011. So, are these states also in the south west.

Sokoto is one state I’m expecting APC to win in 2023. The PDP administration of Tambuwal is the worst in the state since 1999. As at today, Sokoto has the highest percentage of poor people in Nigeria with over 99% of the state’s population living in poverty. They have absolutely no reason to vote for PDP again.

Kudos also to Wamako. He is solidly on ground and doing everything possible to empty PDP into APC in the state. 2023 will be very interesting.

This judgement cannot be implemented.
