LegendVibes: The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the name of Uche Nwosu as a governorship candidate in the March 9 election held in Imo State.
Nwosu is the son-in-law of former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha.
Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled on Monday that Nwosu’s candidacy be voided on the grounds that he was nominated by two political parties – the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Action Alliance (AA) – in violation of section 37 of the Electoral Act, Igbere TV reports.
The Action People’s Party and its Deputy National Chairman, Uche Nnadi, had filed the suit at the court.
Nwosu is, however, still challenging the results of the election which saw Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerge winner at the state’s Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
Justice Ekwo ruled that Nwosu affirmed to be the APC’s governorship candidate in his statement on oath sworn before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
The judge similarly declared that Nwosu “has not been validly nominated by the 3rd defendant (AA) as its governorship candidate for the Imo State governorship election having been made at the pendency of the order of Justice Valentine Ashi of the Abuja High Court recognising the 2nd defendant as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Imo State 2019 governorship election.”
The judge also dismissed Nwosu’s preliminary objection, picking holes in the defence he and the AA separately filed against the substantive suit.
Justice Ekwo, dismissing the preliminary objection, ruled that the provisions of section 285(9) of the Constitution which stipulates that a pre-election case must be filed within 14 days of the occurrence of the event being complained of, was not applicable to the case.

Politics › Re: Falana Seeks Publication Of Detainees’ Names by Amah70: 12:43pm On Aug 19, 2019 |
chisomdoris: In a statement on Sunday in Lagos, Falana claimed that more relatives of victims arrested and detained for several months had contacted him, following his petition to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) last week.
“Following the publication of the contents of the said petition by the media, a number of the family members and friends of the majority of the detainees have reached out to us. Since the detainees were arrested by armed and masked naval personnel in mufti without any warrant of arrest and incarcerated incommunicado, it was thought by many family members that the detainees had been abducted and killed by hardened kidnappers.
“The most pathetic case is that of Ms Grace Inyang, who was arrested in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, by masked naval personnel on October 27, 2018. She was driven to Abuja and dumped in an underground cell at the detention facility of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
“She was, however, transferred to the Nigerian Naval Ship NNS Beecroft detention centre at Apapa, Lagos, last week, for further incarceration. Even though the lady has spent 295 days in detention, the detaining authorities have not informed her of any criminal offence allegedly committed by her; neither has she been allowed to communicate with her relatives.
“The 56 men in the same detention facility at Apapa have been abandoned by the detaining authorities! Similarly, no one has attended to the other 10 citizens who have been detained inside a vessel in Marina, Lagos, for the past 13 months.
“By not notifying the family members and relatives of the detainees of their arrest and places of detention the authorities of the Nigerian Navy have wilfully violated Section 6(2)(b) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, which has imposed a duty on all detaining authorities to notify the next of kin or relative of every suspect of the arrest at no cost to the suspect.
“It is pertinent to note that the authorities of the Nigerian Navy have also continued to ignore court orders for the unconditional release of 15 of 67 detainees, including Navy Captain Dada Labinjo, being detained at the underground cell of the DIA at Abuja.
“Since the detention of the 67 citizens for several months without trial cannot be justified under sections 35 and 36 of the Nigerian Constitution, the Nigerian Navy ought to release them without any further delay.
“The illegality of the detention of the 67 people is compounded by the fact that the authorities of the Nigerian Navy have no powers under the Armed Forces Act to detain persons who are not subject to service law. However, if there is evidence that they have committed economic crimes, they should be transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute them.
“Finally, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct all detaining authorities in Nigeria to publish the names of all detainees and their places of detention and prohibit the police and other security forces from subjecting Nigerians to any form of incommunicado detention,” said Falana.
See more here https://thickmatch.com/falana-seeks-publication-detainees-names/ Only criminals would detain their fellow human beings without court trial. Only a criminal govt can watch that sort of detention go on.

Politics › Re: There’s No Ban On Food Importation, FG Replies Financial Times by Amah70: 12:39pm On Aug 19, 2019 |
ogododo: The Presidency has described as untrue the Financial Times report suggesting that Nigeria has placed restrictions on importation of agricultural products into the country.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that the article, with the headline, ‘Muhammadu Buhari sparks dismay over policy on food imports,’ was published on August 15, alleging that the Buhari administration had placed embargo or restrictions on food imports.
However, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a letter addressed to the Editor of the Financial Times and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, dismissed the content of the article, describing it as incorrect.
According to the presidential aide, there is no ban or restriction placed on the importation of agricultural products into the country, as being insinuated in the report.
He maintained that the Buhari administration had consistently worked towards strengthening Nigeria’s own industrial and agricultural base.
The statement reads in part: “Sir – Your article ‘Muhammadu Buhari sparks dismay over policy shift on food imports’ (Aug. 15) suggests the Nigerian Government is restricting the import of agricultural products into the country. This is simply incorrect.
“To be absolutely clear, there is no ban or restriction on the importation of food items whatsoever.
“President Buhari has consistently worked towards strengthening Nigeria’s own industrial and agricultural base. A recent decision sees the Central Bank maintain its reserves to put to use helping growth of domestic industry in 41 product sectors rather than provide FOREX for the import of those products from overseas.
“Should importers of these items wish to source their FOREX from non-government financial institutions (and pay customs duty on those imports – increasing tax-take, something the FT has berated Nigeria for not achieving on many occasions) they are freely able to do so.
“Diversification of FOREX provision towards the private sector and away from top-heavy government control, a diversification of Nigeria’s industrial base, and an increase in tax receipts – are all policies one might expect the Financial Times to support.
“Yet for reasons not quite clear, the author and this newspaper seem to believe the president’s administration seeks to control everything – and yet do so via policies that relinquish government control.
“We look forward to the next installment of M. Munshi’s bizarre and puzzling article series.” he said.

AAJ50: Things you should know about Sowore’s ‘#RevolutionNow’ movement
Youths and facilitators under the auspices of the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria on Monday, August 4, defied threats of security agencies to hold the ‘Revolution Now’ protest in four states of the country and Abuja
States where the Revolution protests took place are; Lagos, Osun, Ondo and Cross River.
It would be recalled that on Saturday, August 3, the State Security Service arrested the publisher of popular media organisation Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
The SSS said Sowore was arrested for calling for revolution against the present administration.
Sowore who contested for presidency in the 2019 general election in series of recent video clips decried the governance pattern of the present administration.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police also warned that Revolution Now protesters would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Despite the threats, several Civil Society Organizations (CSO) maintained a ‘no-going-back’ stance despite Sowore being in detention and the warning from police.
The protesters said their demands had been broken down into three phases, each of which contains issues that must be addressed.
The three phases are as follows:
* First phase: End anti-people economic policies
* Second phase: End special privileges for the ruling class
* Third phase: Return political power and national wealth to the working people
First phase – End Anti-People Economic Policies:
* Return of fuel prices and electricity tariffs to their levels in 1999.
* End to estimated and inflated billing by the electricity distribution companies
* No devaluation of the Naira.
* End to the insecurity and constant bloodletting in the country
* Abolition of tuition fees in all public universities and secondary schools.
* Immediate payment of the N30,000 minimum wage
* The immediate release of all political prisoners, including Shi’ite leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife
* The immediate payment of all outstanding salaries of workers and pensions of retirees.
Second phase – End Special Privileges for the Ruling Class:
* All public officials must be banned from educating their children in private schools in Nigeria or in schools in foreign countries.
* These officials must be banned also from obtaining healthcare in private hospitals in Nigeria or in hospitals in foreign countries.
* An immediate end to the use of police or military personnel as private security guards for these officials.
* Except for the president and governors, these officials and their immediate family must not live in class-exclusive estates
Third phase – Return Political Power and National Wealth to the Working People:
* The complete and uncompensated repossession by the working people of all national resources stolen by the ruling class
* The complete and uncompensated seizure by the working people of all private wealth accumulated by public officials during and after their tenure of service.
* The complete socialisation of all land in the country and declaration of access to land as a basic right.
* To break the stranglehold of the ruling class on political power by banning from politics all who have stolen the people’s money and property since 1960.
* To reduce the cost of governance by abolishing the Senate, thus establishing a uni-cameral legislature with only the House of Representatives.
* Abolishing the death penalty except for the embezzling or privatisation of the public wealth.
* Producing a new constitution for Nigeria by a democratic and people-led process involving open discussion, debate, and determination of proposals and suggestions by the working people.

EkunKekere: Revolution Now: Islamic group speaks on calls for change of Buhari Govt
Published on August 7, 2019 By Wale Odunsi
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has opposed calls for revolution in Nigeria and change of President Muhammadu Buhari government.
Its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in a statement on Wednesday, said the proponents were hasty in assessing the current administration considering the number of years the opposition was in power.
Noting that MURIC had called for the release or arraignment of Omoyele Sowore, leader of Revolution Now movement, Akintola noted that the conveners have lost touch with reality.
“How do you judge an administration which is yet to take off in its second term? What are the criteria the #Revolutionnow group has used to arrive at its hardline position?, he quipped.
“This is an administration that was ambushed, strangulated and sarakitised from the first day of its inauguration in May 2015. Are they blind to history? Today was born from the wombs of yesterday.
‘Why can’t they take a glance at where this administration is coming from? Have they forgotten how the 8th National Assembly (NASS) held the Buhari administration by the jugular for four good years?
“So what has changed since then? How much time has Buhari spent in his second term? He has not even taken off. Wednesday 21st August has just been fixed for the swearing-in of ministers. Why won’t they allow this government to settle down? Who is afraid of Buhari? Whose cupboard is full of skeletons? Why are they in so much haste?
“Does it mean that both the leaders and supporters of #Revolutionnow were pleased with the sarakitisation of Buhari’s first term? Where really do they stand in the war against corruption? Where were they when the 8th Senate delayed budget for seven whole months?
“We put it to #Revolutionnow that it has misplaced its priorities and failed to identify the true enemies of Nigeria. #Revolutionnow should have organized its uprising against the 8th NASS. By the way, where were they during the general elections that brought Buhari to power? How did they fare? Is it proper to change by force what the ballots refused to grant?
“Sowore is a good material for future politicking but he has to redirect his energy towards reengineering Nigerian youth for service, patriotism and dignity, not towards removing a democratically elected government.
“We advise #Revolutionnow to dismantle, dissolve into a political party and wait for 2023. Even a coup will not pay the group. Coups are no longer fashionable. The Buhari regime is not a product of violent change. It evolved via due democratic process.
“Any other process is therefore unlawful, illegal, illegitimate and unconstitutional. In view of Buhari’s sterling qualities and his numerous fait accompli in spite of all odds, we affirm clearly, unambiguously and categorically that Mr. President has our vote of confidence."
https://dailypost.ng/2019/08/07/revolution-now-islamic-group-speaks-calls-change-buhari-govt/ You don't want to judge an administration from its first four years? Tufiakwa!! FYI Akintola, so long as one Nigeria exists, things shall get worse than this. This is Amaigbo Road, Umuna Orlu, at St Joseph's Catholic Church junction after the rains three days ago. All it needed to avoid this perennial flooding and destruction is complete a tunnel started by Ikwechegh, a former Imo state governor, to drain the floods to a valley about 1 km away. Ikwechegh gave out contract to an Israeli company to dig the tunnel and asphalt dozens of Orlu urban roads then, but immediately Ikwechegh was transferred from Imo, conspirators liaised with the new governor and the contract was cancelled. Since then, Imo governors have been digging underground drainage after underground drainage in Owerri. Orlu never recovered from the cancelled contract.
But since 42 years Imo state was created, it's like Imo state governors are engaged with building a state capital that will touch the sky before salvaging what is left of other parts of Imo state.

fergie001: Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has announced his readiness to sign an Executive Order to bring into force the use of the Treasury Single Account by the State Government.
Ihedioha in Owerri, on Tuesday said the move became imperative following the discovery of over 250 accounts in various banks operated by the Rochas Okorocha led government.
Ihedioha said his discovery on assumption of office was that there were leakages in the revenue accruing to the state government.
He said this was largely due to numerous accounts being used for collection.
He said this accounted for why he decided to sanitise the state’s financial system.
The governor disclosed that he had sought the assistance of a former Director General of the Debt Management Office, Abraham Nwankwo, for a critical look at the financial system.
“It is not an insurmountable issue, we will block all loopholes for leakages and corruption.
“We discovered over 250 revenue accounts. So I will sign the Executive Order for the TSA to begin immediately”, he stressed.

Raydommy: Former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State says he got information from a top detective at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, were holding secret meetings on how to send him to jail.
“The arrowhead of this plot is Adams Oshiomhole. He has vowed that he will block you from realising your ambition and the first step towards achieving this was to make sure your preferred successor did not emerge. He has been having secret meetings with our Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, over your matter.
“One of my colleagues, Abdullahi, has been given the task to liaise with INEC and meet with one Aminu in the legal department of INEC and two powerful women in the department as well as some national commissioners over your matter.”
In his originating motion with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/475/19, the former governor said he had come under serious attack from Oshiomhole because he worked against the latter’s bid to become the chairman of the APC.
In a supporting affidavit, Okorocha said Oshiomhole also blamed him for his detention by the Department of State Services during the build-up to the 2019 general elections.
The Imo-West senator said his wife, children and in-laws were already being targeted for arrest.
It stated further, “The plan has now reached a crescendo and desperation in view of the failure of the respondents to find anything incriminating against me and the decision now taken by the instigator of the respondents is to arrest and detain me in Abuja.”
In a counter-affidavit, however, the EFCC denied all the allegations levelled against it by Okorocha.
In the counter-affidavit deposed to by one Samson Oloje, a litigation officer with the commission, the EFCC said Okorocha’s claim that an operative informed him of secret meetings between Oshiomhole and Magu was baseless.
The counter-affidavit read in part, “No operative of the 4th respondent (EFCC) called Musa Muhammed or by any other name sent a phone text message to the applicant in April 2019 or anytime material herein about any secret meeting involving the acting chairman of the 4th respondent and Adams Oshiomhole about plans being made by the 4th respondent in relation to the applicant (Okorocha).
“That no operative of the 4th respondent called Abdullahi or by any other name has been given the task to liaise with INEC, Aminu of INEC and/or any other person to decimate the applicant politically and/or annihilate him.”

Politics › Re: Ruga Settlements: FG To Woo Colonies With N2.26bn Grazing Reserve Budget by Amah70: 8:30pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
silverbirdng: The Federal Government originally planned to have the controversial Ruga settlements in every part of the country and not only in 11 states.
But the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum and Ekiti Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said the Ruga initiative had been blown out of proportion.
There are strong indications on Saturday that members of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, may call for the investigation into the Federal Government sponsored Ruga projects for Fulani herdsmen across the country.
We learnt on Saturday that funding arrangements, as well as other things that would ensure a seamless operation of the settlements, were still being discussed.
Senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, who had earlier given one of our correspondents the names of states where the settlements were currently being perfected, stated that the affected states and the Federal Government were still discussing many other issues about the settlements, including funding.
The source said, “Generally, it is a policy conceived by the Federal Government to cover the entire country. But the government decided to discuss it with the states and said states that are willing should indicate interest.
“Of course, the Federal Government is going to carry the states that are interested along. It is mainly between the Federal Government and the interested states, discussions are still ongoing and we can’t give a final figure on funding now.
“But we are surprised at the political undertone that this issue is having. Why will a group from Benue stage a protest that government wants to invade their land?”
Umar also said the state governments that indicated interest had been visiting the ministry to get details about the initiative, as discussions were still ongoing to perfect the scheme.
He said, “Already state and local governments are buying into the initiative. Many states have indicated interest. They have been coming to the ministry and stated their interest to join to ensure that we set up Ruga settlements in their states so that their nomads will have a place. They will also have cattle markets and modern abattoirs in their states.”
On May 21, 2019, the immediate past Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, announced that Buhari approved the Ruga settlement initiative earlier in the same month.
No state can be forced to surrender land, says Fayemi
Fayemi, while responding to an inquiry from one of our correspondents via a text message, said the initiative had nothing to do with the NGF, stressing that issues surrounding land use were at the discretion of respective governors.
He said, “The so-called Ruga initiative has nothing to do with NGF. We have never discussed this and none of my colleagues has raised the matter in my period in office.”
Fayemi said no state could be forced to surrender land within its jurisdiction and as such there was no cause for alarm.
The governor added, “I don’t believe any state is under threat of its land being taken over for this purpose. Governors have exclusive preserve over the land within their states jurisdiction. This is a storm in a teacup.”
PDP senators to demand probe
They described as unfair any action by the Federal Government to take over other people’s land for the establishment of herdsmen settlements with billions from the national treasury, promising to initiate probe into the project.
He said, “We have to study the provisions in the 2019 budget and see whether the Fulani herdsmen settlements projects were adequately captured in it. We will know what to do if the project was captured in the budget or not. But definitely, we should look into it.”
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has allocated the sum of N2.26bn in the 2019 budget for the development of national grazing reserves.
The amount is contained in the 2019 budget signed into law by the President on May 28.
Specifically, the N2.26bn is contained under the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. .

Wow I always knew there is a sabotage. They stay in their cosy homes in Abuja and place calls instead of being on the battlefield. That ambush in 2014 still remains in my memory. how did book haram gain access to a classified information that the army were coming?
Lalasticlala this is front page material. Our future is being raped. But there are millions of Northern Nigerian Moslems in sympathy with having a theocratic state of Nigeria to be governed with Islamic Sharia Criminal Justice system. It's for the same type of Nigeria Boko Haram has severally said its fighting for. |

To end Book Haram, let the 12 northern Sharia states RENOUNCE their adoption of Islamic Sharia Criminal Justice system which Book Haram also says it's fighting for a country to be administered with such justice system .
Alternative is dissolve Nigeria into more workable countries.
Religious wars are not won on the battle field. |

FarahAideed: Why are you people so docile ? Who told you Ruga has anything to do with beef market , Ruga is handing part of your land to Fulanis from where they will grow Emirates What does VP Osinbajo know about president Buhari's intentions over Ruga settlements? But it's unimaginable that a country's president appears not to understand that cattle breeding is no more profitably done by herdsmen moving about with cattle in other people's lands. Cattle rearing is now done in enclosed farms in saner countries. What type of president is this Buhari that is defying logic, looking at the faces of mostly dissenting Nigerians and make attempts to forcefully build settlements for his nomadic Fulani across all Nigeria? Buhari is most daring, not giving a damn over possible break-up of Nigeria from his Fulani Ruga settlement desire. |

Myhoneypie: Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imo State are currently trading words as Nigerians await Muhammadu Buhari’s naming of his cabinet members.
The APC members are locking horns over the ministerial slot for the State, leading to petitions and counter-petitions.
Some APC support groups in the State, in a petition made available to DAILY POST, which was addressed to President Buhari, asked him not to consider the duo of former Imo Deputy-governor and former Senator representing Imo West in the National Assembly as ministers.
In separate letters to the President, the groups, Imo APC Footsoldiers, Imo Patriots’ Front and Concerned Imo APC Stakeholders, alleged among other things that the duo of Senator Hope Uzodimma and Prince Eze Madumere were not inclined to the Next Level manifesto of the President, and therefore would be wrong casts to represent Imo State on the Federal Executive Council.
The Imo Concerned APC Stakeholders advised the President to demand the polling booth, ward and LGA results of those angling to be appointed ministers.
The group argued that “a minister needs to be politically strong and trustworthy among his people, in order to, apart from helping to actualize the President’s vision in his second term, also help in rebuilding the Party in the State, considering the poor showing of the Party in the last elections.”
The group also accused some people it described as ‘Party hijackers’ of being responsible for the Party’s poor showing in the last elections, especially, the Presidential and National Assembly elections, where the APC only won two House of Representatives seats and one Senate seat.
The group gave credit to the leadership of the immediate past governor of the State, Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha for helping to sustain the Party in the State.
The Imo Patriots’ Front, who wrote specifically against the nomination of the immediate past Deputy-governor of the State as minister alleged among other things that “Madumere is politically weak and could not win his polling booth in all the elections of 2019.”
Another group, the Imo APC Footsoldiers adduced ten reasons Senator Hope Uzodimma is not eligible to serve in the Next Level cabinet.
The group accused Chief Uzodimma of being behind the poor showing of the Party in the State, and also of unable to “clear his name of several allegations bordering on graft, certificate forgery and breach of contract.”
They argued that the President would be rewarding indolence by appointing the Omuma-born former lawmaker as a minister.

maestroferdi: They dont know jack about how Imo people behave...
Before Rochas and his stooge were humiliated in spite of their mindless rigging shenanigans, the social media was rife with videos and clips of citizens volunteering to assist in the recovery of government properties being carted away by Rochas and his cronies.
The whole state is united in putting Rochas where he belongs...Come to Orlu zone where he rigged himself to occupy the senate seat (albeit temporarily), he is an anathema.
Never again Rochas! The biggest and most important loot to recover -Eastern Palm University - no body knows who Ihedioha govt is waiting for before securing the university. |
