Politics / Supreme Court Judgment: Imo Apc Stages Solidarity March by amakenny: 6:22pm On Feb 01, 2020 |
Today, a mammoth crowd of Imo APC members staged solidarity march in Owerri for gov Hope Uzodinma. This was after Uche Onyeagocha organized a protest march against the judgement of the Supreme Court which sacked Emeka Ihedioha of PDP as governor of Imo state. Uche Onyeagocha was until last year a staunch member of APC and close ally of former gov Rochas Okorocha of Imo state of APC. Onyeagocha later became Chief of Staff to gov Ihedioha of PDP after Onyeagocha tore some election result sheets he suspected to rival the vote counts of his kinsman, Emeka Ihedioha, during the night of governorship election result collation centre in Owerri. He was arrested by police and released later. Uche Onyeagocha was the most visible of the organizers of the protest in Owerri against the sack of Emeka Ihedioha by the Supreme Court. The protest was on as the application of Ihedioha/PDP for review of the Supreme Court judgement that sacked Ihedioha was lodged at the appropriate quarters. Another kinsman of gov Ihedioha, Obi Nwakanma, who writes frequently for Vanguard News, wrote recently on Vanguard news and urged the people of Imo state to rise up and overthrow the APC governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma. Using Owerri native dialect of Igbo language, Onyeagocha rouses the protesters. Unarguably, there is the deep seated anger in the minds of Onyeagocha and the crowd he addresses - anger over non adoption of EQUITY for choice of governor in Imo state. But Onyeagocha is forcing a false narrative about EQUITY to people. He needed to be briefed that equity in choice of governor from three senatorial zones in a State is to discourage an unhealthy situation where a senatorial zone that is advantaged to produce governor disproportionately locates government institutions of development on the advantaged senatorial zone, thus discourage development in the disadvantaged zones. But an unhealthy situation in Imo state is that in the name of developing State capital, successive governors of Imo state since 1976 have developed Onyeagocha's Owerri senatorial zone to become nearly a century of modernity ahead of Orlu and Okigwe senatorial zones. In addition, beginning from the era of military governments, Owerri people cornered all government institutions that induce development to Owerri before return to civil rule in 1999, no consideration for Orlu and Okigwe senatorial zones. Orlu and Okigwe zones are stripped nearly naked - were never put into consideration, as all the six government universities and polytechnics subsidized with tax payers money were being cornered for Owerri zone. There are more than 150,000 students and staff of these tertiary education institutions clustered in Owerri area. More than N2 billion revenues from the staff, students and these tertiary education institutions yield monthly to the development process of Owerri zone. These tertiary education institutions contribute to mass education for Owerri zone deriving from closeness to multi faculty govt tertiary education institutions. Former gov of Imo state, Evan Enwerem from Owerri saw FUTO, AICE and PolyNekede - all in Owerri, yet he established Imo state university in Owerri. He refused to establish IMSU in a better and empty facility at the closed AICE campus in Orlu. Udenwa government started plans to establish Imo state Polytechnic at the closed campus of AICE in Orlu. Once Udenwa left office, Imopoly was quickly established at the edge of Owerri in Umuagwo of Orlu senatorial zone. Two former governors from Orlu zone were fought to a standstill by Owerri people each time the governors contemplated removal of Imo state university from Owerri to Orlu area. Imo state has all its Federal Housing Estates in Owerri, perhaps unique in that regard among the other states in Nigeria. Imo state is one na - that's what an Onyeagocha or an average man from Owerri zone would tell anyone to explain why all institutions of govt that induce development must continue to be in Owerri. But an Onyeagocha or any of the protesters would not accept that Imo state is one when considering from which senatorial zone a governor of the state comes from. Emeka Ihedioha is from Owerri senatorial zone. Mostly behind the protest in Owerri is a perception of Inequity in choice of governors from the 3 zones in Imo state - not perception of injustice from the Supreme Court judgement. If there are others in protest, they are people of fear of - Hausa a batala Awka. But the fear is unfounded. Just before the last governorship election, Hope Uzodinma was in PDP. He must have joined the APC purposely to save Imo state from Rochas Okorocha. |
Politics / Re: Few Pics From Imo State by amakenny: 2:09am On Jul 04, 2019 |
ARE IMO PEOPLE/TAX PAYERS NOT GOING TO BE FURTHER FLEECED DUE TO CLANNISH MOTIVATIONS OVER A SITE FOR THEIR STATE UNIVERSITY? PROFESSOR UKACHUKWU AWUZIE, FORMER VC, IMO STATE UNIVERSITY (IMSU), AND OTHERS WHOSE VIEWS ARE MORE OR LESS KNOWN ON PERMANENT LOCATION FOR IMSU, HAVE BEEN ASKED BY GOVERNOR EMEKA IHEDIOHA TO LOOK INTO OWNERSHIP OF EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY, OGBOKO IN IDEATO SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF IMO STATE, AS WELL AS THE STATUS OF OTHER TERTIARY EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS HURRIEDLY ESTABLISHED BY FORMER GOVERNOR OKOROCHA DURING HIS LAST DAYS IN OFFICE. IN 2012, WHEN IMSG STARTED TO BUILD A PERMANENT SITE IN OGBOKO FOR IMSU, PROFESSOR UKACHUKWU AWUZIE, THEN VC OF IMSU, INSISTED IN AN INTERVIEW WITH DAILY TRUST NEWSPAPER THAT IMSU WOULD NOT MOVE FROM OWERRI. IS IHEDIOHA'S COMMITTEE NOT A KANGAROO TYPE? BEFORE THE COMMITTEE WAS SET UP BY IHEDIOHA, HAD THE OUTCOME OF THE COMMITEE'S FINDINGS NOT ALREADY WRITTEN TO BE LIKE: (1) EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY IS NOT 100% PROPERTY OF IMO STATE GOVERNMENT? THEREFORE, THE OWNER SHALL REIMBURSE THE STATE GOVERNMENT ITS 10% SHARES? (2) EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY IS NOT PART OF IMSU? IMSU NOT YET HAVING STRUCTURES BEFITTING FOR A UNIVERSITY MORE THAN 20 YEARS OLD, IS ANOTHER VICTIM OF CLANNISH POLITICS IN IMO STATE. AS GOVERNOR, ROCHAS OKOROCHA, OR HIS ASSOCIATE, IS NOT ALLOWED BY LAW TO BE PART OWNERS OF EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY. HOW ANYONE CAN STILL DEFEND HAVING ALL PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN IMO STATE TO BE LOCATED IN OWERRI IS UNIMAGINABLE. BOTTOM LINE: EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY IS 100% PROPERTY OF IMO STATE GOVERNMENT. GOVERNMENT CAN EVEN MAKE IT THE SECOND PUBLIC STATE UNIVERSITY IF IT CAN. MORE INFO ON EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY, OGBOKO, IMO STATE. One major controversial quality of Owelle Rochas Okorocha is the fact that he likes to gamble with almost everything. In 2011 when he won the Imo State gubernatorial election, he had intended to run for Senate. But he gambled with the idea of contesting for Governorship and succeeded when he lost out to former Governor Achike Udenwa in the tussle for Senate ticket. Judging from the maverick style with which he governed the State, it became very clear that Okorocha was also gambling with governance and the future of Imo people. All his gambling streak worked until he gambled with the idea of foisting his son-in-law Uche Nwosu on Imolites as his successor; that one failed woefully. Now another area where Okorocha extended his weird passion for gambling was the idea of the ownership of Eastern Palm University. Eastern Palm University (EPU) was registered with the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) in 2016 as a State University; and the record is there till date. The establishment of the University was also backed by Law No. 13 enacted by the State House of Assembly. A site was developed in Ogboko Ideato with government funds purportedly for the new University. Okorocha’s initial plan, unknown to many was to move Imo State University (IMSU) to the new site and then bring EPU to where IMSU is today. However, when the ex-governor realised that Owerri people were poised to resist his plan to move IMSU away from the area, he decided to change plan. He got the rubber-stamp House of Assembly to tinker with the Law establishing the EPU in order to create a false impression that the institution was established under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between his proxy and the State. In furtherance of this evil plot and in order to keep Imolites from knowing what he did, he appointed as Vice Chancellor of EPU, one Prof Dafe Otibo who retired as a lecturer in University of Lagos (Unilag),a non Imo indigene from Edo State. He also appointed as Registrar, another non-indigene from Abia State and his wife’s brother, Mr. Earnest Onuoha. Despite the fact the man had been two-time Registrar in Abia State University (ABSU) before then. The only reason the former Governor could give such plum positions to retired non indigenes in a State that has the highest number of professors and educated persons in the Country, is just for him to cover up his evil deeds. The greedy ex-governor had intended to convert the EPU to his own had his son-in-law won the guber elections. Unfortunately, he failed. Now that God has quashed all the evil plans of Okorocha to acquire EPU for himself and family, it is now incumbent on the government of Rt.Hon Emeka Ihedioha to recover the institution at all cost. EPU is the only quality project executed by Okorocha because he had intended to acquire it. The new Government should jettison any fake MoU purportedly executed between the State and some “private investors” who obviously are proxies to Okorocha. The Law establishing EPU did not create room for such MoU and the License/letter of registration issued to the State by NUC clearly states that EPU is a wholly State owned University. So it is about time for the State government to use security agencies to take over EPU, dissolve the Council and Management set up by Okorocha and restore the institution to the people of Imo State who are the rightful owners. Reference: Good talk. But returning Nigeria to true and fiscal federalism under regional govt system is the dose of medicine one Nigeria reqi=uires to survive. However, the Fulanis and the Jihadists' aim is at taking total control of crude oil deposits in the south of Nigeria and access to sea, therefore they are against restructuring to fiscal federalism and reginal govt system. See the speed at which President Buhari became Petroleum Minister and a Mohammed as NNPC boss. But at any major inter-ethnic conflict, Nigeria shall disintegrate. Nigeria is such that none of its three major ethnic groups can successfully fight the others to retain one Nigeria if the Jihadis spark off a major conflict in Nigeria. |

What is Nigeria's colonial master doing to let the non-muslim southern regions of Nigeria off this? If not for the interest of the colonial masters in maintaining one Nigeria, the southern regions of Nigeria would have long got their own separate countries different from Muslim northern Nigeria. |

Commissioning projects: if OBJ asks Gov Rochas Okorocha and Nd'Imo about the state or progress of the University Teaching Hospital and Sports Stadium OBJ commissioned in 2007 at Orlu, such a question shall be the greatest embarrassment for Nd'Igbo, more so for Nd'Imo. Gov Okorocha dismantled the Sports Stadium because it was not built in his hometown. Gov Okorocha abused and stifled the teaching hospital because it was not built in his hometown, sotay, Okorocha made sure no motorable road led to the teaching hospital in the last seven years. Worse, as Okorocha started again to waste funds building eight lane streets inside Owerri, after building bypass roads around Owerri, no notable person from Owerri reminded Okorocha to rebuild the short road to IMSUTH in Orlu. Rochas Okorocha is like he is in sworn enmity against Orlu. 2 Likes

MhannyEra: Rochas Okorocha, as governor of Imo state, you willingly broke protocol because of your grudges against Orlu and its people. Your grudges fuelled your Owerri-only development style. Your style became possible because in 2015 elections, you carefully picked your chorus men and women as legislators to IMHA. Therefore, the building and boulevard structures that your grudge made you to dot all over Owerri, none was approved by IMHA. |

The gods of Orlu are driving Rochas Okorocha mad. He personally cultivated the madness. The level of wickedness Okorocha showed against Orlu is mindboggling; to the extent of excavating existing roads and dismantling sports stadium in Orlu. |

A mad governor lavished about 95% of eight years federal allocations of Imo state and its 27 local government areas on Owerri, building from Federal prisons, police headquarters, courts, NUJ buildings, boulevards at inner Owerri, after building bypass roads around Owerri. No pipe borne water in his state. At Orlu where he was voted highest in 2011, he scrapped the roads, suffocated the only got project - university hospital - in Orlu because of hate against Orlu and its people. 1 Like |

Okorocha builds these new blocks Imo Specialist Hospital in Owerri. He has not added a single new block to IMSUTH. Any new block is from Imo state University or voluntary agencies like oil companies. He repairs all roads to IMSU in Owerri, but abandoned road to IMSUTH He builds the Oshiedikes diagnostic Labs in Owerri. He equips most of his New General Hospitals near Owerri. 2 Likes

That's how Imo state has all six govt tertiary education institutions in the state located around state capital. Last four years, Buhari missed Idi Amin type of dictatorship because of the magic of Saraki/Ekweremadu. We can even see the constitution amended to have Buhari lead Nigeria after 2023.
