Politics / Re: 10 Most Developed State Capitals In Nigeria-opinion by amakenny: 9:03pm On May 09, 2017 |
Lack of good education has made some Nigerians see state capital as a place where most of the state's federal allocations should be utilized, when rest of the state remain in development levels miles below the level of development in the state capital. A State capital is merely the seat of government in a state. It is absolutely wrong to use the state's federal allocations to economically empower the indegene land owners in the state capital, while others outside the state capital are economically dis- empowered, as in Imo State. |

Owerri. Imo is the only state in Nigeria where all the five federal and state universities/polytechnics in the state are located in/nearest the state capital. The other towns in the state remain empty. Many people from Owerri are ready to fight any government who talks about relocating one to any of the other two senatorial districts in Imo State. Every reasonable thing Imo State has is in Owerri. It's unimaginable why Owerri has not yet reached the Dubai level of development, so that Orlu and Okigwe shall start to see light. |

Owerri. Imo State of only one city. Since 1976, like a magic, every Imo State governor, except late Mbakwe, took Owerri to imply Imo State. The once developing cities of Orlu and Okigwe are now like ghost towns. |

SillyMods: The Ipob people you berate are better than you a million times. In 2015, Nigeria had hundreds of thousands of younger, better educated, less corrupt and better presidential materials than Buhari. But ethno/religious bigotry led you to vote for a man like Buhari to become president of Nigeria in the 21st Century. You should have been ashamed to have Buhari as President of Nigeria. Igbos merely alerted you of another looming danger considering the changed tones in the two letters of absence by Buhari. 1 Like |

mecussey: Some of you from Owerri area are smart by half. Villages in the US have about the same basic social amenities as in the big US cities. It is safe to say that Owerri is on a different development civilization from rest of Imo state; don't you see such great disparity in development between Owerri and rest of Imo state as EVIL? Or, as many of you foolishly believe, Imo state was created for the state capital? As for you, the less congested areas you would like to live in Imo state must have basic amenities like good roads, street lights, water, proximal tertiary education institutions - Owerri has most of these. Orlu and Okigwe for example, don't have. |

mecussey: Nigeria CAN NEVER develop one state to Dubai status while the other states in Nigeria look like glorified villages. NEVER. Only clowns and cheats can think like that. Nigeria is not full of clowns and cheats. What has been going on in Imo State where only the state capital is accorded 98% development attention is EVIL. Imo is only state in Nigeria where development levies are collected by a state governor from all the 27 lgas of the state to build development infrastructures in Owerri; in addition to the governor collecting the federal allocations of the 27 lgas, collect the state allocations from the federal government, destroys what previous governments had built in Owerri, use the levies and allocations to build whatever suits the governor in Owerri. The other 24 or 25 lgas of Imo outside Owerri Capital Territory remain villages without modern development infrastructures. |

Still same old discourse stuff here. When you have a hate-filled man as governor of a state, no discourse reasonable is ever on the table, except buildings and roads the man uses part of the state's allocations to build in the state capital. What state governor would after building broad roads in the state capital, goes on again to spend money on metal decorations on the top of the roads, while roads scratched and abandoned by the governor in the other towns that he hates continues to feed dust to the lungs of people in those areas, close to five years? And the governor does not care!!!! Fact is that development in Imo state outside Owerri has become decelerated, compared to neighbouring states. 1 Like |

arinzeejikonye: No state governor in the right frame of mind would after building broad roads in the state capital, shall again spend money on metal decorations of the top of the broad road, while humans in other parts of the state have been breathing dust from the roads the governor scratched and abandoned in the last five years? What state governor in his right frame of mind would start 8-lane roads, 5 Inland roads, tunnels, flyovers in Owerri when people in Okigwe and Orlu have been breathing dust in the last five years from roads scratched and abandoned by Okorocha govt? Okorocha's Owerri Mega City project is a product from a Hate-filled mind. Before his hateful condition started, Okorocha swore in 2012 that he would embark upon even spread of development projects in Imo state. Later, as his hate for a section of Imo state started, he retreated to the state capital to knock down and rebuild, he has not scratched a road work in Okigwe and Orlu in the last three years. Okorocha abandoned the road works he started in Okigwe and Orlu; all pleas to complete the roads in those two towns to save lives went unheeded as people breathe dust. 1 Like |

EXCESSIVE GREED IN IMO STATE In no other state in Nigeria do we have the three federal and state universities in the state located all in the state capital - except in Imo state. The two govt polytechnics in Imo state are closest to Owerri Municipal lga. All the federal Housing estates in Imo state are built in Owerri. All state and federal ministries are located in Owerri. All military and police big formations are located in Owerri - even institutions located outside Owerri are closed down as locals twist every state govt to locate everything in Owerri. Except in Imo state under Gov. Rochas Okorocha; 1) never in the history of any other state in Nigeria had people in other local government areas got levied by a state governor to build the governor's fancy projects in the state capital. 2) never in the history of any state in Nigeria had the federal allocations of the local govt areas in a state been collected by the state governor to build the governor's fancy projects in the state capital; while the other lgas in the state can't even boast of any modern development infrastructure. Why then did federal govt divide Imo state into local govt areas and senatorial zones? Okorocha is pushed by old deep grudges he has against some area of Imo state to do his Owerri mega city project. A person from Okigwe or Orlu CAN NEVER answer that he is from Owerri. Okorocha does not know the history of Imo state. He is creating bad blood between the various groups in Imo state by using allocations and levies meant for development in other lgas of IMo state only on Owerri. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Eastwalk: Okorocha transforming the skyline of Owerri to beautiful, but making the skylines of Okigwe, Orlu, Oguta, look like abandoned villages. As more and more of Imo state migrate to Owerri, the only place with modern amenities in Imo state, Owerri shall develop shanty towns and overcrowded city centre. Okorocha's myopia. Big ISSUE now is that Okorocha has another two years to continue this madness of Imo state as Owerri. 1 Like |

Op, as you celebrate Okorocha's Owerri, the little grey matter in your head did not tell you that it is foul play for a state governor to do nearly 98% of his development projects only in the state capital, while the other towns in his state decays - as it is in Imo state today? What if Nigeria's govt builds only Abuja Mega city to rival Dubai or New York or London, but abandons Owerri and Lagos and Kano etc; then splashes Abuja beautiful pictures for Nigerians to see, while the rest of Nigeria is decaying, what do you think shall be the reaction of Nigerians? 3 Likes |

uglyafonja: OP here needed to visit Okigwe, Orlu and the rest of Imo state outside Owerri to show abject decadence in those places. At best, Rochas Okorocha with his Owerri Mega City project has brought shame to politicians from Okigwe and Orlu zones; those politicians did not cry foul as Okorocha and his Owerri goons conspired to make Imo state become only Owerri; because of Okorocha's perception of his having political enemies in Orlu and elsewhere. In six years, Okorocha made Owerri become Imo state, after he built a few dual carriage roads totalling about 6km in Okigwe and Orlu; abandoned these areas to do his Owerri Mega City project. Okorocha even collects N3000 per head as levies from every adult in Imo state, in addition to the federal allocations of the 27 lgas and the federal allocations of the state to build his Owerri Mega City project. 1 Like |

Roads scratched and abandoned in Orlu, Okorocha tells people that contractors ate the money. But contractors don't eat the money and abandon road works in Owerri. In 2012, Okorocha said he would put N50 billion in building Orlu City. Till today, Ihioma road to Banana junction, Owus Avenue, Bank road and Ilobi street - total of about 5km - are roads of Okorocha govt in Orlu central. Instead of destroying this Orlu to Nkwerre road, let them leave it. People outside Okorocha and Nwosu's dream Owerri Metropolitan Mega City have resigned to looking forward to a new govt in 2019. |

Too bad if IMSG scratches and abandons this Orlu-Nkwerre road like it did to lots of roads in Orlu town since 2012, like: 1, Old Owerri road, 2 Road from Tesac to St. Josephs Catholic Church, 3, Morning Star Girls secondary school road, 4, Road from St Josephs Church to International market, 5, Road from Orlu Lg Hqtrs to Carrot Junction, and many other roads in Orlu. doctokwus: Population of Owerri is about 650,000; by 2006 census, Owerri had 401,873 inhabitants. Population of Orlu is 420,000. Population of Owerri goes drastically down each time the about 200,000 students and staff of the five tertiary education institutions in Imo state unfortunately located only in Owerri go on vacation. Celebration weeks, Owerri is usually empty when the civil servants and students troop out of Owerri. What do you think Owerri is, not withstanding that it has had more than 90% of development infrastructures by Federal and state governments to Imo state? These outgoing population from Owerri go to swell the populations of Orlu areas known as the most densely populatated in West Africa outside the big cities. IMSUTH's more than 200 beds were 24/7 fully occupied, and the institution working optimally, until Rochas Okorocha started programming to give IMSUTH away in lieu of his private university in his village. For your information, IMSUTH was once classified among the first ten best teaching hospitals in Nigeria when I worked there. So go with your excessive greed fueled by lousiness which makes your lot have the warped intelligence that every major establishment in a state must be in the state capital. You lot have sold shame in the market in Imo state, with your lousy belief that no other parts of Imo state deserve anything good from the state government, except your Owerri. 2 Likes |
Politics / Re: Okorocha Set To Trade Imsuth Orlu To Owerri For His Private University? by amakenny: 10:37pm On Oct 02, 2016 |
doctokwus: Ignorance + Excessive Greed. University Teaching Hospital is a research institution, not a general hospital, therefore, teaching hospitals don't require to be located in overcrowded places, like General hospital (FMC in Owerri). University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital was in Enugu but had to be relocated to a rural town. Oxford University (John Radcliffe) Hospital is not at the centre of Oxford City. Anambra, Abia, Delta, and many other states University Teaching Hospitals are conveniently located outside the state capital. Okorocha wants to end the existence of IMSUTH merely because of excessive greed for his private businesses, because no other Imo state government can develop IMSUTH elsewhere. In Okorocha 's sense, if he tells Owerri people that IMSUTH shall be relocated to Owerri, therefore Owerri people will not question much when he tells Imo state that the state government's shares in Eastern Palm University in his village has been sold to Rochas Foundation. On the day Okorocha was receiving licence for Eastern Palm University, he told National University Commission that it has been 12 years he had been nursing the idea of that university. @doctokwus, you had better worry about your Ekeukwu Owerri. It may no longer exist once uprooted; like many other infrastructures in Imo state so far destroyed by this government. 2 Likes |

Lol. He who the gods want to kill, they first make him mad. IMSUTH was most viable, its more than 200 bed wards fully occupied, was taking refered cases from FMC, and other hospitals. Only a lazy drone can frown about the 25 minutes drive from any part of Imo state to IMSUTH Orlu. Delta state University Teaching Hospital is not in the state capital, it is at Oghara. Anambra state University Teaching Hospital is not in the state capital, it is at Nnewi. But Okorocha roughened and abandoned the road leading to IMSUTH since 2012, frustrate the doctors and nurses, stopped accreditation, stopped admission of fresh medical students, all in reparation for relocating IMSUTH so as to have a soft landing for his crooked manner in establishing his private university in his village while in office as governor. . 3 Likes |
