Ihi my people

My mom in-law is here and intend her to go on the 6th month before her visa expires.

Does staying that full length denies her the opportunity to reapply again?

Hi my people.

I am set to buy a car in this UK. Used Car

Please are there recommendations I can take note of. I don't have much experience with cars here.

I am already searching on Autotrader but most are 50,000 miles and above with more than 2 previous owners.

Any recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Do you already have settled status in UK? I’m just thinking that there might be visa implications for accessing the DFE training in the future if you don’t already have ILR. I might be wrong so please double-check this.

Physics trainees are exempted from parmanent status restrictions. Maybe shortage issues

Baba Lexusgs430 you are also an experienced man in this UK. Please drop an input in this my request below

Please I need some guidance, advice and feedback...

I have two offers which I am divided on which to choose

I am through with my MSc in Data Science here and already on tier 2 courtesy of my wife who got a sponsored support work

The first offer is a prison officer with a starting salary of 28k.

The second offer is a Department of Education Financed training to be a physic teacher with a bursary of 28k for 10 month, I will be paid 19k while 9k will go to the Secondary school providing the training which is affiliated to a university. At the end I will be given QTS ( qualifications to teach) and a PGCE. Now at the end of the training, I am required to look for a teaching job.

Please I need a guidance on which to go, given the peculiarity of this country.

September is start date for both.

Do not mind any grammatical error.
Note I can't do both given the way the training is structured

Ticha:

Take the teaching role - you will be snatched up quickly as a Physics teacher. You can also choose to teach A levels only removing any behaviour issues in class. Even at higher secondary level, most students in your class will be there by their choice and academic ability

1. QTS is widely accepted everywhere
2. You can easily transit out of teaching after your NQT year (so max 2 years teaching) into other fields (check the bursary doesn't have a timeframe to it)
3. You will be able to work part time in your study field (school holidays, weekends should you choose to do so)
4. The teaching experience will not be lost when you transit into your data thingymajingy. Teaching experience and skills is one of the most general and versatile skill sets to have

But then I am biased as qualified teacher - PS I have used my teaching quals from the UK in 3 western countries so far and I officially stopped teaching 6 years ago.

@Ticha thank you so much, it is good hearing also from those who have passed through the career. Thank you again.
@Other senior men and ladies please drop your input whenever you come across this post, I have reposted it in bracket below.

The teaching training was advertised
But when I came to UK and created a new Facebook account here in UK and link it to all my Google activity ( these activities includes jobs application and assessment I have done in the early days when I arrived in the uk September 2021), I am always having feeds of government job opportunities and training on my Facebook wall. I applied to both jobs on the link in those feeds on my Facebook.

Yeah you have a point there, I have looked that I have advantage to bargain but salaries are fixed for the role, also since I don't have other jobs offer on the table, I feel I need to take up one

Atk1nson:

I feel the offers are low. For someone not seeking visa sponsorship, I believe you should be able to get much higher
Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by amanze54: 5:25pm On Aug 07, 2023
Yeah you are right bro, but during interview for mostly data science you will discover that each firm has adopted a particular particular application and protocol, then I go back to updating my skills on that. A very vast field.
But at this point man must wack while pushing for the big prize

Goke7:

.
Yes na, it's a job in demand, and anyone with a degree in data science is seen already to be experienced, na to just package. na foresight de worry man, if some of us knew this 5 years ago, we know where we will be now

@Schoolhike God bless you well well. You understand the state of my mind now with your input.

Please other experienced men and women add your input
@Lexus, @Lagosismyhome, @Justwise. Plenty people to mention name here

Schoolhike:

Well, I was once in this shoe of making a related decisions but mine align with my careers.

But I prioritized job security which permanent job over contract job.

Considering the fact that the prison officer role is a civil service job, it’s might be a little bit easier for you to move to other departments within civil service that relates well with your career goals. For instance if you’ve got good skills and experience in data analytics, while at the prison officer job continue submitting more applications for jobs that aligns with your goals.

The reason why I prefer permanent is that
1. Settle mind / peace of mind.
2. No pressure in applying for job that doesnt relate to your goals anymore.
3. Considering the competition for job out there.
4. Better plan for the future.

If to say the two jobs are permanent, I would have advised to go for the one that will give more flexibility since both are not related to my career goals, so you will have more time to apply and upskill your self more to search for job that aligns with your goal.

Thanks, I am evaluating each on it's merit
Solumtoya:

There you go! That's your answer.

Both careers have their pros and cons so personal preference will be key. If we advise you to be a prison officer and you hate "physical brawl", you'd have a terrible time there regardless of any pros we highlight.

I think it's your choice. Which of the careers do you prefer?

It is not easy, if it was in Nigeria now I would known what to expect. The feedbacks I see online has the citizens talking trash for both careers. But they are citizens and they have the luxuries

Though I prefer brain induced activity than physical brawl

with an MSc in data science, why don't you consider a career in Data Analysis, and look for Graduate roles in big firms like the Big 4 or Engineering firms, that will launch you into big-time jobs in the future. The two offers you have right now are not related to that. If you have a passion for teaching though I will suggest you go for the secondary school job. But I just think you deserve much more than what you currently have. Go for the teaching job but please start aiming higher for a career in Data Analysis or Data Engineering
Good I have some couple of data science/analysis interviews that was not successful so I applied to these and they were successful. Now I am thinking both short term and long term. But I have to work.

@ the poster with 75k gross, please I don't want to calculate your take home. No need to put myself under pressure.

But men are really feeling this UK.

Really all men are not equal

Also to those complaining about the 40 - 50 years Naija people coming through school.
My brother forget it, with what is happening in Nigeria, 70 year old men are still on the way via school. In fact God save UK to twerk the policy. Is like most you have not been to Nigeria for long. It is getting crazy every day there, everyone wants to give up everything to be here. The only thing restraining most is the challenge of form A from bank, who has the money to pay via black market ?

@ The guy oppressed by his wife. I am just being curious, I have calculated your net from your 49K salary, which means you are taking home 3k every month. This is close to the take home of me and my wife together and we still have good saving at the end of the month .

Abeg how are guys getting this 49k salary jobs. most of the jobs prevalent here are 25k to 30k gross.

In fact when I saw your 49k, I thought you are a king earner, until I keep seeing advices here encouraging you to look for better jobs,, haba,, better job, when some us are just roaming between 22k and 28k.

Any way celebrate your 49k and bear with your wife.

Hi all, I have an upcoming PGCE presentation on an interview day. This is an interview for teacher training for one year. The subject is physics. Honestly I love physics. But my interest is also on the funding available for those willing to be trained as physics teacher. Now my major problem is my African intonation, infact Igbo intonation. I have been adjusting it with little improvement. This presentation will be done by me physically on that day. Has anyone any suggestions to give, thank you. I just finished my master and on a tier 2 dependent visa

Hello comrades. I know this topics has been talked about so much here.
But I am about setting out to build in Nigeria cos I have no home in Nigeria. I am divided about making tenement building or just a private house. This also looking forward to a retirement income in Nigeria in the years to come. Is tenement house still not a good venture? And does anyone has any suggestions aside erecting a rental flat in Nigeria

Good evening everyone I wanted to ask my wife is a student and she applied for NHS job,she went for an interview,And she was called the same day that she passed the interview that she’s the best candidate for the position and her details will be passed to Hr to for her resumption day, only for her to call this morning and was told Unfortunately the Hr said she doesn’t meet the requirement for the post cause of her visa status …just wanted to ask if NHS doesn’t accept people with Tier 4 visa?
Just had similar experience while still a student last year. When I probe them further, it was revealed to me that the role involved a training that will be paid by public funds. So I moved on

Don’t worry, the school won’t report you to Home office, you’ll only be asked to instead do your dissertation. You apply for internship roles instead on LinkedIn or do a cold google search to find available ones. For volunteer roles, check the sites below. Also check google for the Harvard CV templates to help refine your CV. I hear UK employers love cover letters so be sure to always include one if you don’t do so already. Best of Luck

Yes it is

BTW, which school? And does the placement visa come separate in your case

I think it's Hertsfordshire that does seperate placement visa. Not sure
Leeds Beckett University.
My visa came as a single unit, but a total of 2 years. One yr for study and one for placement

Well.. what many universities do not help you get placement space and don’t expect the university to pair you with a company that deals with your field.

They see placement as an opportunity for the student to gain work experience in general.

Then I have to broaden my application to customer care role which seem available but my worry is those role always display part time or full time and will not issue a letter stating placement. Now I have to clarify from school placement unit if this role can be accepted. Or I have to find way to get any lob offer letter and then sort out the technicality of placement or no placement with the school

My brother n sisters. Pls I have neva seen what is hard like looking for placement here. I just got the last rejection mail after final assessment that broke my camel back . I have a one year extra placement visa after my Msc Data Science ends in September 2022, now I fear my school will write home office to curtail my placement visa if I can not secure placement. I really need that extra year visa to enable me catch up with perfecting my advance python for machine learning and other program as well as give my wife time to find her footing here. Pls any idea on how to get a volunteer role no salary job that will be willing to give me placement offer.
