Nigerians and hotel lodging, wasteful mentality.

In 2003/2004 the Metropolitan Police was investigating a credit card scam when the trail led them to Joshua Dariye, governor of Platue State and Peter Clark of the Metropolitan police was sent to see Dariye in his hotel somewhere in London. The policeman was shocked at what he saw on arrival. Joshua Dariye's hotel room awash with cash. There was money on the tables, on the bed, chairs, everywhere. In fact, prior to officer Clark's arrival, Dariye was already causing pandemonium in the hotel; he was giving £50 notes every hotel staff lucky enough to walk past his hotel door! The pound rain started after he had telephoned the hotel security telling them he intends to "appreciate" the hotel staff. After the staff showed up and were "appreciated", perhaps taking pity at how wretched or underfed the poor Brits were, Dariye decided blessing more Brits and saving them from hunger was one brilliant idea, so he extended his "appreciation" further by giving £50 to anyone who walks past his door.

When the rest of the staff heard there was a Santa holed up in their hotel and dashing pounds to folks for the sheer effort of walking past his door, they abandoned their duty posts and made a spectacle of walking past his door. To the glory of God, Ogbeni Dariye didn't disappoint them, every John Carpenter and Peter Gravedigger who made the effort past his door that lucky morning of January 20, 2004, had £50 note finding its way into their pockets.

This was what was going on when Peter Clark arrived at the hotel to his utter unbelief. According to the officer when they searched Dariye's room, "he had 50,000 pounds in £50 notes on his table..and there was more money found in his room."

Meanwhile in the same hotel, another Dariye, in fact his sister, was in another also with £50, 000 in her possession. Though she wasn't playing Santa, perhaps because there is no such thing like Mother Christmas. And this is why we keep saying everything shouldn't be about men. Women should be given their chances too in this world. Why do we have Father Christmas and no Mother Christmas? But that's a matter for another day.
Back to the story, you wouldn't believe that the Dariyes own am apartment on the same street they lodged and got caught with £50K on their possession! Why then were they staying in a hotel instead of their own house? To dash out money to poor hotel workers? If you understand the mentality of the Nigerian politician, the idiot who though hitherto worth less than 500k, becomes a billionaire upon happening upon a political office, you would know. In Rivers state, the moment you become an LGA councilor, you move into a hotel in PH, buy out a room for an entire year and remain there, only visiting your own house for receptions etc. You don't want to talk about lawmakers, etc. Those ones lease out permanent rooms in 5 star hotels in Abuja upon assumption of office. This is why Joshua Dariye and his sister left their own house and went to lodge in a hotel on their own street. Free money.

Well, to cut a long story short, the olodo siblings were promptly arrested by the ungrateful Brits who didn't think dashing £50 notes to their poor compatriots was such a smart idea after all. But ogbeni Dariye, like his Delta state colleague and contemporary, James "Bond" Ibori knew the drill: he simply jumped bail in London and escaped to Nigeria, the safe haven of fantastically corrupt politicians, where on completion of his term as governor he would become a revered Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

But despite all his drama and attempts to frustrate his prosecution he was successfully prosecuted by the EFCC and convicted. He was jejely serving his term in Kuje prison when on April 14 this year, Mohammadu Buhari, the man they say is the very antithesis of corruption "pardoned" and released him.
If anyone points at anything they claim holds the candle for Buhari as a sincere anti-corruption crusader, and you can't remember Abdurasheed Maina or anything, point them to Joshua Chibi Dariye, former governor of Plateau state and the his Buhari-sponsored pardon.

Why Elephant Mums Poo on Their Calves.

I visited a friend in his office within the week, while waiting at the reception, I noticed the television was on Curiosity.channel ( one of my favourites) flashing through some weird animal behaviours..

Sitting opposite was a young woman of about 35 with her daughter of about 8. Then on the screen was an Elephant mum and her calf walking so close between her mother's hind legs. Immediately the Mum slowed, and instinctively, I sensed what was about to happen.

And it did happen with the muscular contraction of the Mum's stretched tail, she released huge bombs of sh*t on the head of her baby who seemed to relish the feeling with every thud on its small head.

Expectedly, the little girl shouted nyamaaaaaa in apparent disgust. And her Mother equally felt irritated by the sight of the Mother Elephant pooing on her calf.

I laughed.

The natural teacher in me kicked in, and I explained in details why such seeming disgusting sight is essential for the wellbeing of both mother and calf.

And this nauseous behaviour is not limited to the gentle giant. Other mammals such as , rhinos, hippos and warthogs practice same for survival of their lineages

Elephants are hind gut fermenters. What this means is that once the food has passed through their stomachs and into their small intestines it enters the large intestine where bacteria causes fermentation to helps break down the grass and plant material.

However, as baby elephants are about to be weaned from consuming breast milk to feeding on plants something must give to prepare them for this important transition period. And that thing is eating the poo of their mothers.

The process of young animals eating the poo of their mothers is known as coprophagia.

This is because they're not born with the necessary bacteria in their gut to allow them to digest plant matter so the only way the calves can obtain the much-needed digestive bacteria needed to stay alive is to consume the faeces of their mother or fellow herd members.

Elephant faeces is composed of 75% water. The remaining 25% is made up of indigestible fibres that help the faeces through the digestive system, dead bacteria and also salts, dead cells, mucus and live bacteria. This live bacteria are what the baby elephants need to build up their own digestive systems as well as strengthen their immune systems without which they won't be able to survive.

Aside from the biological importance of eating poo, it also serves other purposes such as psychological. Dropping poo on the head of their calves help in bonding between the mother and calf. It also helps the calf to mentally internalise the peculiar scent of the mother.

There are other animals that feed on other animal's faeces. For example Tortoises eat hyena's scat (sh*t), this is because it is very high in calcium as hyena consume lots of bones as part of their diet. So the tortoises will eat the hyena scat to get the calcium to strengthen their eggs and also harden their own shells.

More interesting is Rabbits and Hares that eat their own faeces, sometimes directly from their own rectum,. Rabbits live life on very fast lanes with resting heart rate that ranges between 140 and 180 beats per minute, and well over 300 beats per minute when under stress, and they're always under stress so everything about them is fast.

Their digestive process is so fast that it doesn’t give the animals time to obtain enough nutrients from the food the first time. So they have adapted to eating their faeces in order to get the required nutrients that they weren’t able to absorb the first time.

multinational company and things started to turn around for me.

I could now take care of myself and secure a future.

Though I married my husband but I never forgave him from my heart and it made me not to do anything in my husband’s name.

We currently have three kids together but all my properties are in the name of my children. I never used him as my next of kin either.

Just last month my company decided to transfer me to a branch in Texas and the company is willing to pay for my entire family to relocate with me.

My husband’s business is not doing too well and he’s willing to relocate also but we have no legal certificate to show that we are married.

Now he wants us to go to the court to legalize our marriage and I have said “No”

My dad has threatened to disown me if I ever go with him to court.

He’s been tagging me everywhere as a bad wife who is not loyal to her husband, spoiling my family also.

His family members have been calling me trying to persuade me but I told them I’m old enough to make my decisions also and I have stood my ground just like he did to me nine years ago.”
