FamilyDNA Discovered In Cave Dust May Reveal The Secret Life Of Neanderthals by AmeLonRo(op): 4:19pm On May 16, 2021
https://thenewkokoro.com/2021/05/16/minute-traces-of-dna-discovered-in-cave-dust-may-reveal-the-secret-life-of-neanderthals/

Scientists have discovered significant changes in Europe’s Neanderthal populations based on traces of blood and excrement left behind in a Spanish cave 100,000 years ago.
The discovery represents the first significant demonstration of a powerful new technique that enables researchers to study DNA recovered from cave sediments. Such investigations do not necessitate the use of fossils or stone tools. Instead, minuscule traces of genetic material found in the dust of a cavern floor are used to uncover ancient secrets.

The power of cave dirt DNA analysis, as one researcher put it, is the scientific equivalent of “extracting gold dust from the air,” and it has raised hopes that it will transform our understanding of how our forefathers behaved.

Professor Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum in London said, “The potential of this technology is fantastic.” “You don’t need a stone tool or a fossil bone to determine whether an ancient human lived or worked at a site. All you need is the DNA from their cave homes, which was left behind in the debris. This has far-reaching implications for a wide range of investigations.”

What ancient DNA tells us about humans and Neanderthals - The Verge

Future cave dirt DNA analyses could focus on the Denisovans, an enigmatic species of early humans who lived in east Asia tens of thousands of years ago. Scientists could learn how far the species spread before becoming extinct by studying sediments in caves and other locations in India, China, and other parts of Asia.

The technique could also help researchers learn more about Homo floresiensis, the small-bodied “Hobbit” people who lived in Indonesia more than 50,000 years ago but left only a scant collection of remains. Furthermore, it could be used to pinpoint the precise timing of modern humans’ exodus from Africa and arrival in Europe tens of millennia ago.

Current studies in each case have been hampered by a lack of hard evidence, an issue that does not affect cave dirt DNA analysis. The technique was developed four years ago by scientists at Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, and its utility was demonstrated in a “proof of concept” paper published in the journal Science in 2017. Scientists demonstrated that they could identify Neanderthal DNA among the other scraps of genetic material found in caves.

Scientists say our languages might preserve Neanderthal talk

The researchers have now advanced the technology by determining the exact genetic identity of Neanderthals who once lived in the cave Galera de las Estatuas – or the Gallery of Statues – in northern Spain. The findings were once again published in Science.

“Galera de las Estatuas is a well-studied cave with clear evidence of Neanderthals living there for tens of thousands of years,” said Max Planck researcher Benjamin Vernot, who led the investigation. “We don’t believe they buried their dead there, but we believe they butchered meat there. They would occasionally cut themselves and bleed on the cave floor. Similarly, their babies would have excreted there, leaving their DNA behind.”

The most important aspect of Galera de las Estatuas is that it has been meticulously studied by palaeontologists and archaeologists, so that each layer of cave sediment has been precisely analysed and dated. “That means we can put an exact date on the DNA samples we found in each layer,” Vernot explained. This resulted in an unexpected discovery. The researchers discovered that about 100,000 years ago, the population that had been living in the cave for millennia was replaced by a completely different group of Neanderthals.

Why Did The Neanderthals Go Extinct? | OpenMind

“It was as if a modern European population had been replaced by East Asians,” Vernot said. “However, we don’t know whether this was a violent or a relatively slow process.”
Vernot, on the other hand, pointed out that around this time, the Earth experienced a significant change in climate as weather systems cooled. “It is possible that the first inhabitants were unable to tolerate or survive the cold in the area surrounding Galera de las Estatuas and died out or chose to leave. Later, as the weather improved, a new population – with a different genetic signature – arrived,” Vernot explained.
According to Stringer, this demonstrates the power of cave dirt DNA analysis.

“Getting a bigger picture of how past populations of ancient humans, such as the Neanderthals, moved around has been difficult to assess based on a few bits of bone and the odd stone tool,” he said. “However, studying the DNA they left behind opens up a whole new window into our prehistory.”

FamilyThe Quick Payday Loan Agreement by AmeLonRo(op): 4:07pm On May 16, 2021
A payday loan is similar to other types of loans. It will require you to sign a loan agreement. However, before you sign, you should read through all of the fine print. Not only will you learn your rights, but the forms also contain useful information.

Contact Information for Lenders

The lender’s contact information should be clearly visible in your loan agreement. This should include the name of the company, its address, and its phone number. They may also contain a fax number or an email address. If you have any questions, you should be able to contact the lender using this information.

purple and gold passport on white surface

Fees and interest rates are listed below.

A list of fees and interest rates will also be included in your loan agreement. The APR, which should have been disclosed prior to signing the agreement, can be found here. You will also discover the exact dollar amounts that you must pay for the loan.

Late fees and bounced checks are also included. These fees can quickly add up, and it is preferable to work with your lender to renew your payday loan terms rather than paying large late fees.

Obligations to pay

Your cash advance loan is due to be repaid on your next payday. You may, however, choose to repay the amount over a period of several weeks. Whatever the terms are, they must be clearly stated in your loan agreement.

You should also read the statement: You cannot be prosecuted in criminal court for attempting to collect on this loan. This statement means that, while you cannot be arrested for failing to pay your loan, you may end up in civil court. Fees for the loan and court costs can be collected through the court by garnishing your wages, placing a lien on your assets, or other means determined by the court.

Inadequate Information

If your loan agreement lacks the aforementioned basic information or if you disagree with the terms, you should not sign for the loan. You could be dealing with a shady organization. A better option is to look for another payday loan company with whom you can feel at ease.

BusinessThe IFC And Absa Have Signed The First African Green Loan by AmeLonRo(op): 12:22pm On May 13, 2021
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has provided South Africa’s Absa Bank with Africa’s first certified green loan to fund renewable energy projects in the country.
According to an IFC statement, the IFC, the World Bank’s private investment arm, will lend Absa US$150 million, which the bank will use to finance “biomass and other renewable energy projects” in South Africa.

The loan is the first in Africa to comply with the Loan Market Association’s Green Loan Principles. These are a set of high-level standards for environmentally friendly lending, according to the statement, which does not provide further details on the nature of the projects.
Under the agreement, Absa will disclose who it lends money to, which the IFC claims will improve transparency. According to the statement, the IFC will “provide technical advice and knowledge sharing to assist the bank in developing a green, social, and sustainable bonds and loans framework.” The agreement is intended to encourage other banks to pursue green loans.

“The agreement with IFC expands our funding available for green projects and solidifies Absa’s position as a leader in financing renewable projects in South Africa,” says Jason Quinn, interim group CEO of Absa.
According to Adamou Labara, the IFC’s country manager for South Africa, “financial institutions and the private sector have an important role to play in assisting South Africa to rebuild greener and more sustainably from the impact of Covid-19.”
“By increasing funding for renewable energy and climate-smart projects, we can help South Africa strengthen its resilience and adaptation to climate change.”

The country, which has been suffering from a years-long drought that has affected the entire Southern African region, wants to gradually reduce its reliance on coal-fired power – but with coal currently providing around 90% of the country’s energy needs, the transition will require significant investment.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), which provides development finance to developing countries, believes that South Africa has a $588 billion investment opportunity in climate change mitigation measures over the next nine years.
The South African government announced an energy plan in 2019 that calls for solar and wind power to account for a quarter of the country’s electricity generation by 2030, as well as the construction of new nuclear power plants.

BusinessThe New Corporate Debt Paradigm: Cash-flow Borrowing Reigns Supreme by AmeLonRo(op): 6:43pm On May 12, 2021
When a company wants to borrow $1 million, creditors typically ask for something they can seize and keep in the event of a default, such as equipment, real estate, inventory, or receivables. However, this does not apply to all businesses: a company that develops software, for example, does not have much to pledge to creditors. Recognizing this, lenders allow businesses to borrow against their operating cash flows.

low angle photo of city high rise buildings during daytime

According to an analysis by Chen Lian of the University of California at Berkeley and Yueran Ma of Chicago Booth, while less traditional, this method of corporate borrowing has actually become dominant. They estimate that 80 percent of US business borrowing by value is based on cash flows from operations, with only 20 percent tied to physical and other separable assets that lenders can seize.

Lian and Ma compiled a database of corporate debt that did not include financial institutions. They gathered aggregate debt data from a variety of sources, then zeroed in on individual company debt using data from S&P Capital IQ, Thomson Reuters’ DealScan, and other databases from 2002 to 2018.

Borrowing patterns varied across industries, according to the researchers. Airlines, for example, borrowed heavily against physical assets, as did small businesses.

person standing near the stairs

Meanwhile, for companies that borrowed against their cash flows, total debt was typically limited not by asset count, but by a multiple of recent operating earnings. “Among large, nonfinancial firms, around 60% have explicit earnings-based covenants in their debt contracts,” the researchers write.

Every dollar increase in operating earnings as measured by EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was associated with an additional 28 cents in net debt issuance for companies that used cash flow–based credit. This link was strongest at companies with contractually limited borrowing amounts, and it was also strongest when the economy was weak and lenders were more likely to check in on borrowers more frequently.

The researchers also gathered real-estate values, but found only a shaky link between real-estate prices and debt levels. Borrowing increased by only 2–3 cents for every additional dollar value of property at large nonfinancial companies.

woman in black blazer and black pants

“The good news from this research is that we’ve established a good institutional environment in the United States that allows firms to pledge their business value,” says Ma. Even if a company does not have machinery to use as collateral, it can usually borrow money if it can demonstrate that its operations are profitable. In the United States, legal structures such as Chapter 11 bankruptcy laws facilitate cash flow–based lending, and similar institutions can do the same in other countries.

On the other hand, she observes, businesses in countries with legal systems that are more oriented toward liquidating companies in bankruptcy, or that have less robust and reliable accounting and auditing systems, are at a disadvantage.

person holding brown leather wallet and banknotes

The study cites pre-2000 Japan as an example, where companies typically offered assets, particularly real estate, as collateral. Japan experienced a real-estate boom and bust in the 1990s, and when prices fell, a lot of corporate debt went bad, limiting companies’ ability to borrow. According to the researchers, the United States experienced a similar boom and bust in the 2000s, but its businesses were not as badly harmed. Because large US corporations did not rely on real estate to borrow, the crash in real-estate values had less of an impact on their debt capacity.

In contrast, US households relied heavily on borrowing against real estate, and their debt contributed to the Great Recession.

The study has implications for economic models, and Ma believes the findings are especially significant in the coronavirus era, when asset-heavy industries such as airlines, hotels, and oil and gas have been hit the hardest. Older macroeconomic models may need to be reconsidered to ensure that policies effectively support an economic recovery.

PropertiesThe Advantages And Risks Of Obtaining A Home Equity Loan by AmeLonRo(op): 5:19am On May 12, 2021
Are you thinking about getting a home equity loan? Make certain you understand what to expect and what you’re getting yourself into. Continue reading to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of equity mortgages.

A home equity loan, also known as a second mortgage, enables homeowners to obtain cash by leveraging their home equity. By second mortgage, you are replacing your existing loan and securing it with the same asset, in this case, your home.

brown and black wooden house

For some, refinancing a home equity loan may be considered risky. It does involve some risk, given that you are borrowing against your home. However, if properly planned and executed, it has the potential to solve a wide range of financial issues.

Home equity loan and credit line

When it comes to equity loans, you have the option of getting a second mortgage or a line of credit. The decision will be influenced by how you intend to spend your money and what your objectives are. The former provides you with a lump sum with fixed interest that you can repay over a period of 10 to 20 years. This is ideal for one-time large expenses like home renovations. A line of credit, on the other hand, is similar to a credit card in that you are pre-approved for a certain spending limit and can withdraw cash at any time while being charged the current interest rate.

A home equity loan is an undeniably simple way for homeowners to obtain cash. Home equity interest rates are not always as low as those on your first mortgage, but they are usually half as high as those on your credit card or personal loan. Consolidating your debts with home equity will provide you with additional savings. You can even use the money you save each month to pay a portion of your mortgage principal, reducing your mortgage burden. Equity mortgages are also convenient because you only have to make one monthly payment. You save time and avoid the stress of meeting deadlines.

Another appealing aspect of a home equity loan is that it is tax deductible. Many people use equity mortgages to pay for large purchases, vacations, and other consumer goods because they are tax deductible.

Obtaining a home equity loan should not be viewed as an easy way out for those who have fallen into the cycle of spending and borrowing – those who dig themselves deeper into debt. An equity mortgage, while appealing as a concept, should only be used for the right reasons. Though a home equity tool can provide you with a valuable tool for financial stability, you should be aware that it also comes with a number of risks.

If you do not manage your debt properly, you may lose your most valuable asset, as is the case with all mortgages that use homes as collateral. Keep in mind that some mortgage terms require you to make lump sum or balloon payments near the end of your mortgage term. Do not succumb to the allure of easy money with equity loans; instead, weigh your options and plan accordingly.

PropertiesRe: Loans For Homeowners; What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages? by AmeLonRo(op): 4:57am On May 12, 2021
PropertiesLoans For Homeowners; What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages? by AmeLonRo(op): 4:54am On May 12, 2021
There are numerous reasons to borrow some extra money. People are increasingly willing to borrow money for larger projects, such as home improvements and extensions, purchasing a new car, starting a business, or going on vacation. In general, the credit industry is more than willing to oblige, with fierce market competition driving interest rates and loan terms ever lower.four brass skeleton keys

This means that most people have a variety of options for borrowing money. They can choose from credit cards, bank overdrafts, an unsecured personal loan, or a home owner loan, all of which are vying for YOUR business, custom, and money!

Before applying, do what any financial advisor would do and shop around for the best loan offer available. Even for applicants with bad credit, there are a slew of companies vying for your business, so don’t give it up lightly. Always compare the deals on offer, get written quotes from companies, and use these to negotiate discounts from other loan providers.

Those with a good credit score will be spoiled for choice. There are numerous companies offering low interest rates, discounted rates, promotional benefits, and other incentives to entice you and your loan. Again, the main point is to be aware of this and shop around for the best deal, negotiating where necessary. In these situations, I always remember a phrase my mother used to say to me when I was a kid: “If you don’t ask, you don’t get.” This is just as true when shopping for any product, financial or otherwise.

There are several obvious benefits to choosing a home owner loan, especially if the amount involved is large and you intend to repay it over a number of years. When you choose a home owner loan, you will be able to borrow more money than with any other type of credit, and the terms will be better. This is because you are allowing the lender to secure the loan’s value against your home. This gives them an almost fail-proof guarantee that the loan will be repaid, and thus significantly reduces the risks they face in making the loan.

However, there are risks associated with securing credit over your home. Before agreeing to sign up for a home owner loan, you should carefully consider these factors. By granting security, you give the lender direct control over your home. If you are unable to make your payments for any reason, the lender has the right to take possession of the house and sell it to satisfy the debt. So, if you believe you will be unable to continue making your payments, you should be aware that you will be at risk of losing your home. If you have family or other obligations, this may be a risk you cannot afford to take.

You should also think twice if you are considering borrowing for a short period of time. Is it really wise, for example, to put this loan on your home if you want to go on vacation? The vacation will be over in two weeks, but you’ll be paying for it for the next fifteen years!

Having said that, for the majority of people, home owner loans are the cheapest and most appealing source of borrowing for larger loans.

TravelAfrican Giraffe - Giraffe In Africa by AmeLonRo(op): 10:58am On May 10, 2021
The giraffe (Giraffa) is an African artiodactyl mammal that stands at the highest point on the African continent and is the largest ruminant. Giraffa camelopardalis is traditionally thought to be a single species with nine subspecies. However, based on research into mitochondrial and nuclear DNA, as well as morphological measurements of Giraffa, the existence of up to nine extant giraffe species have been described. Seven other extinct prehistoric species are known from fossils.
The giraffe's most distinctive features are its extremely long neck and legs, horn-like ossicones, and distinctive coat patterns. It is classified as a member of the Giraffidae family, along with its closest extant relative, the okapi. It has a dispersed range that stretches from Chad in the north to South Africa in the south and from Niger in the west to Somalia in the east. Giraffes are typically found in savannahs and woodlands. Their primary source of nutrition is the leaves, fruits, and flowers of woody plants, primarily acacia species, which they consume at heights that most other herbivores cannot reach.
Lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, and African wild dogs may prey on giraffes. Giraffes live in herds of related females and their offspring or bachelor herds of unrelated adult males, but they are gregarious and can congregate in large groups. Males establish social hierarchies by "necking," or combat bouts in which the neck is used as a weapon. Dominant males gain access to females for mating, and the females are solely responsible for raising the young.
Because of its unusual appearance, the giraffe has piqued the interest of various cultures, both ancient and modern, and has frequently appeared in paintings, books, and cartoons. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has classified it as vulnerable to extinction, and it has been extirpated from much of its former range. Giraffes can still be found in several national parks and game reserves, but estimates for 2016 show that there are approximately 97,500 Giraffa in the wild. In 2010, over 1,600 animals were kept in zoos.
Carl Linnaeus classified living giraffes as a single species in 1758. Cervus camelopardalis is the binomial name he gave it. In 1762, Morten Thrane Brünnich classified the genus Giraffa. The scientific name Camelopardalis is derived from Latin.
The giraffe is one of only two living genera of the family Giraffidae in the order Artiodactyla, the other being the okapi. The family used to be much larger, with over ten fossil genera described. Their closest known relatives may have been the extinct climacocerids, which resembled deer. They are classified as part of the superfamily Giraffoidea and the family.
Antilocapridae (the only extant species of which is the pronghorn). These animals could have descended from the extinct family Palaeomerycidae, which could also have been deer's ancestor.
Neck elongation appears to have begun early in the giraffe lineage. Comparisons between giraffes and their ancient relatives indicate that vertebrae near the skull lengthened first, followed by vertebrae further down. Canthumeryx, whose deposits have been discovered in Libya, was an early giraffid ancestor who lived 25–20 million years ago (mya), 17–15 mya, or 18–14.3 mya. This creature was medium in size, slender, and antelope-like. Giraffokeryx first appeared 15 million years ago in the Indian subcontinent, resembling an okapi or a small giraffe but with a longer neck and similar ossicones.
Giraffids such as Palaeotragus, Shansitherium, and Samotherium first appeared 14 million years ago and spread throughout Africa and Eurasia. These animals were longer and had broader skulls and bare ossicones and small cranial sinuses. Paleotragus looked like an okapi and could have been its ancestor. Others believe that the okapi lineage diverged before Giraffokeryx. Samotherium was an especially significant transitional fossil in the giraffe lineage because its cervical vertebrae were intermediate in length and structure between a modern giraffe and an okapi, and more vertical than the okapi's.
According to a 2020 study, different taxonomic hypotheses recognizing two to six species for the genus Giraffa can be considered depending on the method used. This study also discovered that multi-species coalescent methods, which delimit geographic structures rather than species, can result in taxonomic over-splitting. Most population genetic and multi-species coalescent analyses support the three-species hypothesis, which recognizes G. camelopardalis, G. giraffa, and G. tippelskirchi.

PetsAfrican Zebra - Zebra In Africa by AmeLonRo(op): 7:02pm On May 05, 2021
Zebras are African equines with black-and-white striped coats. There are three species of zebras that still exist: the Grévy's zebra, the plains zebra, and the mountain zebra. Zebras, horses, and asses all belong to the genus Equus, and the three are the only living members of the family Equidae. Zebra stripes come in a variety of patterns, each one unique.

Several theories have been proposed to explain the function of these stripes, with the majority of evidence supporting their use as a form of protection against biting flies. Zebras are found in a variety of habitats throughout eastern and southern Africa, including savannahs, grasslands, woodlands, shrublands, and mountainous areas.
