It would be hard for him>> Dude doesn't even have any visibility in Kano... But kano politics is always full of surprises.. |
Ahuitzotl: To come up with this rubbish you skipped the text culled from the very resource link posted by your cohorts to potray that 60% of the poverty rate in Nigeria lies in the south....Read from the top of page 5 again. I went through the link you posted. From your postulation, you make it seem like other parts of the country are immune to poverty. Like some utopian state we should strive to emulate. That's mediocre to me. |
Ahuitzotl: That is what's up in the North.Out of 10 northerners on the average 8 are very poor with the crass ignorance in the area coupled with religious extremism this stat will worsen.Until the likes of Dangote and co invest on the education and economic upliftment of the wretched northern populace (women and children), this here propaganda "lions of arewa" will not wash....It should be redubbed " Fat cats of arewa serfdom" Very funny the way some people just assume and love to swallow anything they read. The nature of my job has taken me to the nooks and crannies of this country. Both rural & Urban. Wheteher north, south, west, east; poverty is everywhere. So this your 8/10 assertion is just bogus and a mediocre attempt to justify exactly what you know nothing about. Peeps just sit down in their small rooms and spew trash. I think next time Im on field duty in other parts of the country, I should start taking pictures for all to see. |
SirShymex: This is an hysterical lion's den.Way behind in what aspect/criteria? Can you elaborate please? |
Apart from the Dantata's, Isyaka rabiu's, Kabo etc. Some of these are businesses are at least two (2) generations old. Predates Nigeria. 1.Sharubutu Group The late Umaru Sharubutu was the founder of the Sharubutu group of businesses, which has continued to thrive over the years in Kano and beyond. Sharubutu, who was born in 1853 died in 1947. He started out as a general trader, travelling from Kano to Lagos with wares such as necklaces, earrings, clothes and some other products, which he sold in the South and would buy kola nuts in large quantities to sell in Kano, having discovered a market for them in the North. In 1913 Sharubutu entered into a new phase of trade, following an offer by European traders to help them buy groundnuts, a fast-selling economic produce then. For Sharubutu, it was a great opportunity. He, however, made huge losses and so soon quit the business. But as at 1947 when Sharubutu died, he had acquired much and owned several business holdings in Borno, Bida, Ilorin, Kano, Lagos, Lokoja and Accra, Ghana. Today, Sharubutu’s businesses operate under Sharubutu Investment Company Limited, Sharubutu and Sons Nigeria Limited, etc and have produced the likes of Sa’ad Sharubutu, the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO). The company represents Procter and Gamble, a multinational company, as a key distributor in Nigeria. 2. Nabegu Tannery, Kano Nabegu is the name of a Bunture, Kano industrial family. The family over six generations are prominent traders in the hides and skin and cattle business during the colonial economy and later owned the largest tannery in kano during the post colonial economy. Like many of their contemporaries, they were also involved in the transportation business. A patriarch of the family, Alhaji Nabegu was a major cattle dealer from Kano during pre world war 1 and after the war. He was born into a trading family and may have joined trading expeditions with his father's traders to purchase Kola nuts. In 1911, he established his own business and originally followed his father's footsteps and entered the kola trade with cattle trading on the side. However, he sensed better opportunities to succeed in business by buying cattle and was one of the first to establish a regular supply line with pastoral Fulanis. He used inducement such as salt to help in persuading to Fulanis to part with some of their cattle and later became one of the major cattle suppliers in Kano. Also, the security provided by the British imperial interest may have fostered trade and development South of Kano leading to increase demand for cattle. Nabegu was also a notable social climber, he had matched and exceeded many Fulanis in a major pride of prestige, cattle owning and was a member of the Northern Nigeria Assembly. His son, Baba Nabegu is also a major industrial figure in kano. 3. Sani Brothers Group Of Companies 56-year-old Alhaji Abdulmunaf Sarina moved into the family business empire, Sani Brothers Limited, in 1971. At the time, the company was solely a transportation company. His prudent quality and analytical business acumen led to the establishment of the first petrol station at Tanburawa, Kumbotso local government council of Kano State, a result of his putting to use knowledge gleaned from the transport business. This was followed by his expansion to oil and gas. Today, the company is known as Azman Oil and Gas. The latest addition, Azman Air Services Limited was established in 2010, with major business branches in Kano, Lagos and Abuja. Azman offers local air travel services with hopes to extend to international services in the future. Azman Air Services Limited has a workforce of over five thousand and the transportation company owns no less than 250 trucks. Now known as Sani Brothers Group of Companies, it is chaired by Alhaji Sani Yunusa. |
OP! Have you contributed yourself? |
Where wont you find poverty in Nigeria, whether it is 40% or 90%. Its everywhere. Most posters here make it look like poverty is only peculiar to the north. That's hypocritical and not being objective to me. Some are cool with hiding their rides at home and some are cool with flaunting it about. Is it your money? Different strokes for different folks. There are northerners who have been merchants for decades, some of these businesses passed down from their grand parents, some 3/4 generations in business. You find a lot of them in KANO to be specific. Most have had nothing to do with oil money or Govt ,but because the north have been in power for most part of Nigeria's existence, its easy to stereotype and bunch all of us together. You hear words like aboki, or how do you speak good English. Or they don't expect you to be polished. I just laugh and tell 'em you need to travel a bit more (but not with the bombs flying around now ). |

Deny a sitting Governor Access to the Airport but Grant Access to the Ex Governor Because he plans on Decamping... SMH ![]() |
I also passed through the same traffic yesterday. Bloody rented crowd. Most were even teenagers who had know idea what was happening, others were just there to follow the crowd. Cant even be compared to APC RALLIES. I was never a fan of Kwankwaso before but my perception changed with this his 2nd coming. Kano is presently a construction site and living up to its commercial status. I don't support any party but Kudos to Kwankwaso. |
whats the mileage pls? |

Kano State_ wonderful |
uboma: The *almajiri model school* is a recent development from the FG. But imagine the rate of success such development will get to, if the government of Kano State is also contributing meaningfully towards it. I have no problem with the government of Kano State assisting the educational development of Niger Republic but why not solve its own peculiar problems first before venturing out to other countries?Stop talking trash.... Visit Kano and see changes.. |
asha 80: why was he voted out in his earlier stint? He had issues with the emirate ruling class and some power brokers then... And not because he wasn't performing. I guess he is far wiser now... |
I don't know about others.. But Kano is changing, and only haters would say kwankwaso is not working. Btw I don't support any party. So many infrastructural projects ongoing. I just wish he can go for 2nd term! I would definately vote 4 him. |

Bilfinger SE, the German parent company of Nigerian construction company Julius Berger, has reached a Deferred Prosecution Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to pay $32 million as fine for involvement in a foreign bribery scheme benefiting Nigerian government officials to obtain and retain contracts for the $387 million Eastern Gas Gathering System (EGGS)project. “From late 2003 through June 2005, Bilfinger conspired with Willbros Group Inc. and others to make corrupt payments totaling more than $6 million to Nigerian government officials to assist in obtaining and retaining contracts related to the EGGS project,” an official statement by the US Justice Department read. Bilfinger and Willbros formed a joint venture to bid on the EGGS project and inflated the price of the joint venture’s bid by 3 percent to cover the cost of paying the bribes. “At another point in the conspiracy, when Willbros employees encountered difficulty obtaining enough money to make their share of the bribe payments, Bilfinger loaned them $1 million,” the statement explained. Under the 3-year deferred agreement, Bilfinger pledged to implement rigorous internal controls, continue cooperating fully with the department, and retain an independent corporate compliance monitor for at least 18 months. “We are pleased that we have now been able to put these events from the distant past behind us. In recent years, Bilfinger has consistently expanded its compliance instruments and today has a modern and efficient system”, said Roland Koch, Chief Executive Officer of Bilfinger SE. The Department of Justice in its statement “acknowledged Bilfinger’s cooperation and its remediation efforts.” In a separate release, the multinational engineering company said it had significantly reduced its investments in Julius Berger Nigeria PLC (JBN) in 2012, in tandem with the scope of its strategic alignment toward engineering and services. The company has already reduced its stake in the Nigerian business from an initial 49 percent to approximately 33 percent.
