I really don't understand how you'll see fire clearly and on your own decide to jump into it.

Dear lady, I'm not saying you're desperate to get hitched, but hello! How in the word will you see this man who's cold to you, who doesn't care about you and who obviously regrets engaging you as someone you want to spend the rest of your life with?. He does not love you! And he doesn't care about you feelings either. He goes for weeks without calling you! I'm sure even one night stands show better courtesy than this.

The honest truth is that he's been looking for a reason to leave you all this while, and you gave him just that reason to. But be happy he left you now, cos he's have still left you eventually. He does not care about you at all.

Why in the world will you bring his father into this? Do you have an iota of respect? Jeez!
Well his father has nothing to do with him leaving you so you know.

By the way you sound really obsessive. And this engagement sounds like an arrangement between families. Move on already. His ship has sailed

afrodoc: That is why i was trying to explain the issues to her.
I believe Nigerians are smarter than we present ourselves to be on NL. The problem is that we allow our emotions and our prejudices to cloud our reasoning and judgement. She obviously dislikes doctors maybe because of the strike situation and therefore she has subsequently minimized any debate involving doctors to "doctors are greedy and bad,so they are always wrong" RATHER than trying to understand this particular situation and reasoning rationally
So are you trying to say we don't have corrupt and greedy doctors out there?

I haven't been attacking doctors. Thank you!

MDCEO1: Madam, the degree of retardation in this post really makes me wonder if some people's IQs are not truly less than that of ancient prehistoric apes.
Where exactly in the original post did you see the doctors asking for 1.9billion naira or asking to share the N1.9bn money among themselves?

They are saying the funds from Federal Government has not arrived at the isolation centres to provide basic amenities for the patients and you are here running your mouth spewing fermented trash.

I'm sorry, i dont typically insult people online, neither do I comment frequently here, but the sheer idiocy of your post pushed me to reply even in the dead of midnight.

That is an EBOLA isolation centre for crying out loud! They are managing very ill people who are also veeery very infectious, so they need funds for both medications, standard equipment for various laboratory tests and investigations, and even basic things like power and water. I'm sure even things like bedding materials, consumables would have to be replaced often as they are being consumed (or would you like to be the one washing an ebola patient's soiled bedsheets? They have to be discarded and replaced). Did u even see or read about the American isolation centre where the US doctors were taken? They need lots of things to improve the patient's chances of survival as much as possible.

Some of these things has been provided by the Lagos state government so far, but it isnt enough to meet the standards of what a proper isolation centre for a disease with this kind of severity and virulence should have, hence they are stating that the funds FG has been mouthing about on media is yet to reach them to even provide some of these needed things.
And someone is here spewing trash about people clearing their throats to chop money.

It pains me because I happen to personally know people (doctors) who are actually working there caring for the sick patients, and there are many things that still need to be provided to provide optimal care for these patients.

Please, if you really do not know much about a topic, its better to keep quiet and be presumed to be a regular person, than to open your mouth and show yourself a re*tard.
As my lecturer in school used to say, "it is better to keep quiet and be considered a fool, than to open your mouth and CONFIRM IT".
Thanks.
And somehow you're very sure, absolutely sure that they haven't provided with the basic amenities because a newspaper article says so. The point I was simply trying to say is this, just for the fact that a huge sum have been mentioned as funds to fight ebola, whatever is given (whether reasonable) will apparently not be enough just for the simple fact that 1.9billion has been mentioned.

My reply wasn't particularly to the article, but to the psychology behind the doctors complaint in the first place. No matter how sincere an article sounds, it doesn't necessary mean the truth. In the main article, some of the doctors claimed what they've been using is there own funds for the treatment and management of ebola. Can you believe that? We just have 1 Ebola center active with patients in the entire country so you know. They are well taken care of by both the state and the federal government, by like Oliver, they want some more.

P.s. . Yes Ebola is a very sensitive issue, and to get a national outrage , you just have to say things like those stated in the original article, but I think the government are doing a lot in trying to curb the menace, sentiments aside.

Somehow I think this recruitment exercise won't turn into a stampede thing like the previous ones. Reason being that we're talking about manning the borders here. Ebola? Anyone?

I'm sure the comptroller general phrased it in this manner to reduce the rate at which applicants apply. Sharp guy!
Health › Re: Doctors At Ebola Isolation Center In Lagos Say N1.9bn Promised By The FG Was Nev by Amya(f): 7:54am On Aug 23, 2014
I'm sure the doctors in the isolation ward are their swallowing spittles waiting for the 1.9billion that will change their life forever. I'm sure they've divided it amongst themselves even.

If the FG allocated N1.9billion to fight the scourge, does that in anyway imply the lump sum given to the doctors at the isolation unit? The people their are infected already and what they need is food and drugs to heal them which I'm sure even Lagos state can provide. But I'm sure the ministry has started sending something. Maybe smaller than they expected.

The money is therefore for the prevention of Ebola and curtailing it and that has absolutely nothing to do with the doctors at the isolation ward.

I see greed in those doctors eyes.

Reverence. . . That word. Well I think it's wronng in this context. Reverence is not 'submitting', mind you. Using that word for God is okay but using that for a fellow man though your husband, and one that upset you at that is just pushing it.

I'm up for couples resolving whatever issue they maybe having in a mature and respective way. It's only natural though that the upset party get it off their chest even if it means yelling.

If she really loves him, does it really matter where he lives? The basic comforts of life can still be enjoyed in a remote village if he can fund it. From the story, money is not a problem. What matters most in this world is love and happiness and if she gets that from him, she should never let it go for something as mere as city life. If she leaves him, she may live to regret it.

This country needs a urgent change in governance! A really urgent one!!

This is the problem we face in this country. Nobody is willing to make sacrifices!
Shey the people that called the press conference are medical practitioners. Why don't they volunteer their services to the victims of this disease. I'm sure they would need any help they can get. The same goes for every other persons here who think enough isn't being done for the victims. Volunteer your services at the Ebola health centres today! I'm sure you services will be greatly appreciated. Sitting behind computer screens and being sympathetic will do those people no good.

BedLam: Every thread, I see dunces! If they are neglected, how many days will the patients last? lipsrsealed Can an Ebola patient who is not taking medication last more than 5 days? undecided Yeye people!
Thank you very much! This is just an avenue to seek for attention/favours from the govt by these hypocritical doctors. Even a kid knows these days that if you want support from the masses, just say the government is not working.

If it's not being managed well, how come it's still the 10 Ebola confirmed case as it is last week. How come they are still alive even though we know the speed at which it kills.

Nigerians use your head for once! Anything in print must not be the truth! Punch is trying to sell papers, but this is a very shoddy journalism as they didn't even bother to go check out the patients themselves. They relied on the hearsays of people who I'm sure didn't even go to the said hospital. They probably called a press conference to lament to seek attention for themselves as though they are the victims. What have the contributed as medical practitioners! If they care so much, why can't they volunteer their services to these people they claim they love so much.

We should stop being a blame trading people and know that the government we hate so much is just our reflection as a people. You can't plant corn and pepper would germinate.

TV/Movies › Re: Nollywood Nightmare At Durban Int Film Fest by Amya(f): 9:42pm On Aug 13, 2014
I do believe our entertainment industry is growing. We'll eventually get their at this pace.

The basic problem I think the industry is facing is funding. That's why we produce really brilliant romantic comedies that are cheaper to produce rather than action movies.

Our actors are completely amazing and would compete on an international platform any day if there is enough funding and the right infrastructure available to the industry. I hear the average budget to produce the typical Nigerian movie is N5Millon. With that ridiculously low amount they even try to make something watchable. Imagine if the average movie is now made between N50M-N100M we'll rule then.

In other news, my only problem with Nigerian movies is their love for cliches. It never ends with this people. This makes movies predictable and less interesting to watch.

They think by being unpatriotic they are helping themselves, that is the biggest joke of the century...Anyway what do you expect from illiterates.

I really think the reason the US did this is simple and that is because of the Anti-gay right bill that was passed into law. Just recently the Ugandan supreme court judges just Legalised gay unions in Uganda. Ghana and Rwanda are indifferent about the issue. Its only Nigerians that have said no completely and when they did America threatened to withdraw some aids and place some sanctions..
Anyway my advice to GEJ is to see this as a blessing and not a curse because all these foreign aids are meant to make the Recipients puppets to the Donor.. Let's struggle to build our economy and forget the west, because they are evil. The more they give with one hand, the more they take with the other...

Present to who exactly? And I hear local govts issue customary marriage certificates on request.
Culture › Re: Is Traditional Marriage Complete Marriage? by Amya(f):
salaksmana: At traditional marriages they issue certificate? Do you even know what traditional marriage means? It is what most people refer to as "engagement". So after that, without going to court the law recognises them as couple?
Don't confuse yourself, traditional marriage is not an engagement ceremony. It stands on it's own.
Yes the court of law recognizes a traditional marriage which has normally has no certification if there's evidence to prove the following
1. Parental consent to the couple

2. Presence of at least 2 witnesses to the marriage.
3. Dowry payment.

With just this evidences above, any Nigerian court (not necessarily a customary court) recognizes a traditional marriage as a legal union.

In fact, after traditional marriage if you go ahead to have a statutory marriage, the statutory marriage cancels out the customary marriage in the eyes of the law. Both laws can never blend together
