32 teams will learn their European fate in Thursday's group stage draw. Getty The group stage draw of this season's Champions League takes place at Monaco's Grimaldi Forum later today. Here's all you need to know before it all gets started. Where to watch live The draw and its inevitably drawn out ceremony will be shown live on Sky Sports News HQ and BT Sport Europe. Uefa's official website will also have live coverage. The draw is scheduled to start 4:45pm UK Preview Following the conclusion of this week's playoff rounds, we now know which 32 teams will be eagerly waiting to learn their European fate in Thursday's Champions League group stage draw. Having eased past Club Brugge in their play-off, Manchester United have joined Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal as the Premier League's representatives. Louis van Gaal led his side back into the competition after last year's absence where the rest of the English representation fell woefully short of the required standard. For the first time in history, they will be joined by five teams from Spain, with Sevilla and Valencia joining Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid courtesy of their respective Europa League and playoff successes. This year's revised format means the champions from each of Europe's top eight leagues will be kept away from each other until the knock out stages. Pots and coefficients For the first time in the competition's history, Pot 1 will consist of the competition's current holders and the champions of the top seven associations: Barcelona (Spain), Chelsea (England), Bayern Munich (Germany), Juventus (Italy), Porto (Portugal), Paris Saint-Germain (France) and Zenit St Petersburg (Russia). As Barcelona enter as both European and Spanish champions, the extra spot in Pot 1 goes to Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven. As ever, teams from the same country cannot play each other in the group stages. The rest of the pots have been determined by the club's Uefa coefficient, which is calculated by the sum of all points won in the previous five years, plus 20% of their association's coefficient over the same period. Pot 1 : Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica, Paris, Zenit, PSV Eindhoven Why advertise with us Pot 2 : Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Porto, Arsenal, Manchester United, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester City Pot 3 : Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, Lyon, Dynamo Kyiv, Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow, Galatasaray, Roma Pot 4 : BATE Borisov, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Wolfsburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Gent Dates After the draw, you will only have to wait a few more weeks before the Champions League is dominating your mid-week again. Group fixtures will take place on: Match day one: 15/16 September Match day two: 29/30 September Match day three: 20/21 October Match day four: 3/4 November Match day five: 24/25 November Match day six: 8/9 December http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/uefa-champions-league-2015-16-group-stage-draw-where-watch-live-pots-coefficients-preview-1517189

Mubarak Bashir is a 23-year- old Kano indigene based in the US, was recently retained by the Aerosim Flight Academy USA as the first Africanflight instructor. Bashir, a native of Sitti in Sumaila local government area of Kano state, speaks on his career so far, among other issues. Excerpts:- Tell us a little about yourself? My name is Mubarak Bashir, born in 1992 and that makes me 23 years old now. I am from Sitti in Sumaila Local government of Kano state. I did my primary school at Sea Gate College in Lagos and also went to Zaria Academy for my secondary school. I later left Nigeria for Malaysia where I did my first degree on software at Luton East London University and currently working with Aerosim Flight Academy as a Flight instructor in Florida, United States of America. How did you get into the aviation school and under whose sponsorship? After completing my B.Sc, I decided to pursue a career in aviation. All these things wouldn’t have been possible without my humble father’s commitment to our education as his children. When I told him about my intention, he told me that it will be done. I applied and got admitted; I started my training at the Aerosim Flight Academy under the sponsorship of my father. My father always wanted the best for us and he stops at nothing to see that we got the best. He has been very supportive and I owed my success to him. How would you describe studies in the US and that of Nigeria? Actually, these are two different issues and I believe each has its own disadvantages and advantages, depending on the personality involved. When talking about two different countries with distinctive differences in economic and social standard, definitely studies in such countries will not be the same. However, in flight training, I think the weather in Florida is more favourable for training and also they have advanced flight training devices and better aircrafts compared to Nigeria. What do you think usually makes people to prefer studying abroad than in Nigeria? Actually, people travelled to a lot of places to seek for knowledge and usually their main reasons differ. But one thing remains unchanged and that is people always want to get quality education. What are the challenges you faced? I guess the biggest challenge I faced is my age, as a young man far away from home; I have to be extra careful in the ways I conducted myself. I have to be pushing myself to the desired stable. However, in my chosen carrier it is not easy, for a man of my age to become a professional pilot. It takes lot of hard work, dedication and also lots of sacrifice which I am willing to do. Did you face any discrimination being an a Nigerian or African? None that I can remember, as a Nigerian and the only African, I get equal and fair treatment from my colleagues and the instructors. What are your motivations? First of all I have always been passionate about flying. What motivates me is flying to different places around the world and meeting people from different background and above all my father’s commitment to my success. You were recently retained as a Flight Instructor and the first African to achieve that. What is the secret? Most people only get their commercial pilot license and head back home to work in the airline agencies in their countries. I decided to stay back after getting my commercial pilot license to obtain my flight instructor license. So I guess the secret is my determination to stay behind; and getting the flight instructor license. You also need to be on the F1 Visa which allows you to work. Do you intend to come back to Nigeria and live? Nigeria is my mother land and will continue to be, I will absolutely come back to Nigeria because I have no better place than Nigeria. What are your future plans? Now that I have been retained in the academy, I will concentrate in justifying what I was retained to do and after that I may consider working for the airline or flying corporate. http://247nigerianewsupdate.co/meet-the-23-year-old-nigerian-flight-instructor-based-in-usa/

Last Updated: Thursday, 6 May, 2004, 10:54 GMT 11:54 UK E-mail this to a friend Printable version Eyewitness: Nigeria's 'town of death' By Anna Borzello BBC, Yelwa, central Nigeria Felled trees, branches and piles of junk metal lie across the road to Yelwa. Muslims say the town was sealed off by Christian militias They were placed there last week by armed men who wanted to stop security agencies coming into town and stopping the killings. The closer we got to Yelwa, the more signs of destruction we saw. Burned houses, and the twisted metal and shattered windows of cars, abandoned by the side of the road. The police said it was too dangerous for us to go into Yelwa's centre, and made us leave their armed convoy and wait by a vandalised petrol station until they came back. They drove off down the main street, through a milling crowd. 'Military uniforms' But instead, people were desperate to talk to us. Muslim men from the Hausa-Fulani ethnic group, immediately began to gather round to tell their story. They said that the attackers - armed with sophisticated weapons - surrounded Yelwa on Sunday and launched a killing spree that lasted 24 hours. Some of the militia - who came from four neighbouring Christian ethnic groups - were stripped to the waist and painted black with charcoal. Others, the eyewitnesses said, wore military and police uniform. The attackers went from house to house looking for people to kill, looting property and burnings building. Three mosques in this predominantly Muslim town were destroyed. 'Mass grave' It is still not clear how many people lost their lives, although it is likely to be far higher than the official toll of 67. One man said 550 dead, another 600 - but some of those may be simply missing as many people fled during the attack. Three mosques were burnt in the attack The men agreed, however, that 250 people had been buried the day before in a mass grave. I asked why the police thought that it wouldn't be safe for us to drive around the town. The reason was immediately clear. The people of Yelwa feel that the security forces and local government have let them down. They say that on 20 April the police withdrew from the town - and didn't come back until the killing had stopped. Earlier this week, when the local governor and state chief of police drove through Yelwa, men lined the street chanting at them, and the officials were too frightened to get out of the car. Revenge killings The police say, in their defence, that sometimes it makes sense to tactically withdraw - and that they weren't able to come in during the fighting because of all the roadblocks. Army and police are now deployed in Yelwa. And the president has set up a peace team to try and resolve the conflict - which is rooted in a dispute over access to land between the Christian ethnic groups and the Muslim Hausa-Fulani. But it is clear that the threat of ethnic and religious killing in the region has not gone away. There has been heightened tension in the region, since the start of the year, and revenge killings are common. Earlier this year, Muslim Hausa-Fulani in Yelwa killed 49 Christians who had taken refuge in a church. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3689615.stm |

As part of the continued offensive operations against the Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 7 Brigade have today entered and cleared Gudumbali town, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State. During the operation, quite a number of the terrorists were killed their weapons and equipment were destroyed. The troops are currently doing clearance operations in the general area. It should be recalled that the Nigerian Air Force has inflicted heavy damage on the terrorists camps within the general area last Monday. In a related development, troops of 5 Brigade Explosive Ordinance Devices (EOD) Unit while advancing towards Dikwa, ran into landmines buried by the terrorists. Unfortunately, 2 soldiers lost their lives, while 2 others were critically injured. The bodies of the two gallant soldiers have been evacuated, to the rear, while the other two wounded soldiers have also been evacuated and are receiving treatment at the military hospital. The unit also lost a Mowag Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) due to the buried landmine between old Marte and Kerenoa junction in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. Despite this sad event, the troops are not deterred as they continued their advance and pursuing the terrorists to their enclaves in Sambisa forest. Similarly, it is important to note that troops in the various formations and units in Operation LAFIYA DOLE are in high spirit and more determined to destroy the terrorists camps and enclaves.
