Beautiful Olamide Aroguma is the current Miss Global Peace Nigeria 2015. She is so passionate about touching lives that she set up an empowerment program on skill acquisition immediately she assumed office. In this interview, she talks about the programme, her modelling career and other issues. Excerpts…. Olamide Aroguma By JULIET EBIRIM and KEHINDE AJOSE How did you get to be part of the Miss Global Peace Nigeria pageant? I saw it online and a friend of mine told me to go for it and I decided to purchase the form. Have you participated in a beauty pageant before? Yes, I represented Kaduna State at the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria Pageant in 2011. When did you start modeling? I started immediately after MBGN. Before then, I wasn’t into modeling. So, what gave you the confidence to go for the MBGN contest even though you weren’t yet a model? Before the MBGN pageant, people used to tell me to go into modeling since I’ve got the looks. So, I decided to give it a shot. What’s being the Miss Global Peace all about? The office of the Miss Global Peace 2015 signifies unity and peaceful co-existence. My role as the queen is to ensure peace and unity among communities. People can come to me to render any assistance within my power. How have you been carrying out your responsibilities? I have an empowerment programme on skill acquisition. People come there and we teach them how to design outfits, soaps and other things. What makes the Miss Global Peace pageant different from other pageants? I think other pageants emphasize more on beauty rather than passion. They organise the pageant and it ends there. The queens come on air and talk about their projects, but you don’t see them physically carrying them out. Even if the government is supposed to provide for its citizens, we still have to do something on our own. I’m passionate about touching lives and helping others, that’s why I created the empowerment programme. Since becoming queen, what has changed about you? Nothing really, I’m still the same person. It’s just that I go for events and people want to take pictures with me. Are there times when you just feel like being you without the fame and glamour? I’m always me. I’m more of an introvert. I spend more of my time with my family and watching movies. When I’m not carrying out my duties as a beauty queen, I stay indoors. I’ve never had many friends and the few friends I have are happy for me. What are the advantages of being a beauty queen? People give you audience, they want to listen to what you have to say. Besides, it has opened doors for me in so many ways. What prices have you paid to get to where you are? After MBGN, when I started modeling, people would call me for casting. You could go for about five castings in a day and still not get picked. You keep spending your money going from one place to the other to no avail. You get sad and frustrated, but at the end of the day, I think all that has made me who I am now. Describe your dream man? There’s no dream man. People just lust over things that are not reasonable. Most times, we end up falling for someone who’s not our dream man. I don’t have a picture in my head, I just believe in wherever love takes me. I can fall in love with anybody as long as he’s Godfearing. (Cut in) Do you believe in love at first sight? I actually don’t. I believe we need to take time to know ourselves and then, grow in love instead of falling in love. Have you ever fallen for someone at first sight? No, I haven’t. I can see someone for the first time and really admire the person. But fall in love? That’s a big one. Have you ever had a crush on someone? When I was younger, I used to have a huge crush on Thierry Henry, the footballer. We are just two girls in my family, which explains why I was the tomboy. I used to watch football a lot with my dad. While watching Thierry Henry play football on TV, I’d tell my dad ‘That’s my future husband!’. Now that you’re older, who’s your crush? That would be Prof. Attahiru Jega (Laughs). I love his calmness and the fact that he’s so composed and cool. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/i-have-a-crush-on-prof-jega-olamide-aroguma/#sthash.sKzch6sK.dpuf

Geopolitical zones in Nigeria
The Six Geopolitical Zones in Nigeria is a major
constitutional division in Nigeria, created during
the regime of president Ibrahim Badamasi
Babangida. Nigerian economic, political and
educational resources are often shared across the
zones. [1][2][3][4]
Reason for the Zones
Nigeria is made up of approximately 400 ethnic
groups and 450 languages. There was a need for
the government to merge similar groups for
effective allocation of resources.
Zones
North Central (Nigeria) : loosely known as
Middle Belt ; includes Benue State , Kogi State ,
Kwara State , Nasarawa State , Niger State ,
Federal Capital Territory and Plateau State
North East (Nigeria) : Adamawa State , Bauchi
State , Borno State , Gombe State , Taraba State
and Yobe State
North West (Nigeria) : Jigawa State , Kaduna
State , Kano State , Katsina State , Kebbi State ,
Sokoto State and Zamfara State
South East (Nigeria) : loosely known as former
East-Central State of Abia State , Anambra
State , Ebonyi State , Enugu State and Imo State
South South (Nigeria) :loosely known as former
South-Eastern State of Akwa-Ibom State and
Cross-River State ; former Rivers State of
Bayelsa State and Rivers State ; and former
Mid-Western Region, Nigeria of Delta State and
Edo State
South West (Nigeria) : includes Ekiti State ,
Lagos State , Ogun State , Ondo State , Osun
State , and Oyo State

This testimony starkly contradicts the assertion of the former Chief of Army Staff Kenneth Minimah that brand new equipment was purchased and issued to the MNJTF. Brigadier General Kuti was in charge of Baga, in Borno State, when Boko Haram overran the army headquarters in December 2014. International organizations estimated that over 3, 000 died in the incident, but Defense Headquarters posted a much lower figure of 150. Making the stunning statement at the Special Court Martial, which is taking place at the Army Headquarters Garrison in Abuja, was Major Gen MY Ibrahim, former General Officer Commanding the 7th Division of the army. Major General Ibrahim caused a further stir when he declared that throughout his tenure as the GOC, he did not once visit Baga. General Ibrahim further testified that the three MBLT Battle Tanks issued to the force had mechanical and electrical faults, while the artillery guns lacked critical accessories. It was further revealed during the trial that the MNJTF lacked adequate fighting vehicles and support weapons. Most of the battle tanks in Baga were issued in 1998 at the commencement of the operation, and were therefore in very poor condition. The tanks were therefore not useful and could not effectively be used to repel the attack by the insurgents on the 3rd of January 2015. Despite Army Headquarters directives that there should be mutual support in the North East operation by all members of the Nigerian Army, members of the Court Martial were dumbfounded when documentary evidence was tendered to show that the former GOC intentionally refused to task any military unit to support the MNJTF when it came under that attack. Prior to this development, the Investigating Police Officer had informed the court that he was restricted in his investigation while the second prosecution witness, Captain EE Emmanuel, testified that MNJTF fighting equipment was unserviceable and that the troops were thus overwhelmed by the insurgents who fought with superior fire power and in strength. Meanwhile, the Committee set up by the Chief of Army Staff to screen officers and soldiers in Jaji has concluded its sitting without screening all the army officers who turned up for the exercise. The committee made up of Maj Gen A Oyebade, Col I Buhari, Col ON Taiwo, Col TS Nurseman, Lt Col EO Ugwu, Lt Col ME Elom and Lt Col U Ukpe, directed the officers to return to their location and continue with their trials. Although the trial has not commenced, our investigations have revealed that Col I Buhari participated in the investigations that led to the trial of most of the officers while Col TS Nurseman, Lt Col EO Ugwu and Lt Col U Ukpe who are presently serving as Director Legal Services in HQ 81 Div, HQ 1 Div and AHQ Gar respectively, gave the legal advice that led to the convening and trial of the officers affected by the court martial. Of equal significance, they are participating as either the Prosecutor or Judge Advocate in the court martial. The Special Court Martial is expected to resume sitting tomorrow for the defence counsels Femi Falana and Rtd Maj OA Oyebanji to open their case. Notice has been given in court that the military authorities should make the former Chief of Defence Staff, former Chief of Army Staff and Maj Gen JAH Ewansiha available as witnesses in view of the testimony of General Ibrahim that new equipment was never issued to the MNJTF. http://saharareporters.com/2015/09/01/no-new-equipment-was-issued-our-soldiers-fight-boko-haram-former-goc-tells-military-court |

on august 31, 2015 at 10:31 am in news Facebook Share Twitter Share By Henry Umoru ABUJA- FORMER registrar of National Business for Technical Education Board, NABTEB and Pro- Chancellor, Governing Council, Igbinedion University, Okada, Professor Olu Aina disclosed yesterday that the late Ooni Oba Sijuwade Olubuse (II) fought the south-west before his death. Professor Aina said he was privilege to hold a private meeting with the Ooni some few days before he died, said that the late Ooni had canvassed support of the South West zone for President Muhammadu Buhari in his desire to re- invent Nigeria, adding that he described President Buhari as a man “God specifically brought as a Messiah to re-start Nigeria. Prof. Aina, a Chief from the source in Ile-Ife, disclosed this in an audience he had with some Ife Kingmakers and Chiefs weekend, as preparations for installation of the next Ooni begins to generate attention, appealed to Kingmakers not to falter in their judgment on who becomes the next Ooni. Professor Aina at the meeting called for great wisdom from the Ife Kingmakers on the need to support a candidate who will continue from where Oba Sijuwade stopped and advance the development of Ife, the Yorubaland and Nigeria in general, counting on the powerful and influential stool of the Ooni to do so. He told the Kingmakers that the Ooni in deep reflection expressed a desire to ensure an end to the marginalization of the south west and believed strongly that the zone should accord the present government strong support while playing very key role in ensuring the progress of Nigeria. He said, “Permit me to share an intimate moment I had with the Ooni a few days before he passed on. On the 9th of July 2015, baba called me and instructed that I should see him urgently. He even rebuffed my attempts to shift the date he set for the meeting which he made compelling. I struggled hard with my very tight schedule to see the Ooni. “Surprisingly, our discussions centered on state of the nation. He told me bluntly that Nigeria should be grateful for having Muhammadu Buhari as President. He talked at length on his worries about Nigeria and the reign of impunity in high places as well as the general breakdown of security across the federation. “He expressed concerns about the dilemmas of the Nigerian youths and the rate of unemployment in Nigeria. At a point, he heaved a heavy sigh and said that God specifically brought President Buhari as a Messiah to save Nigeria! “The Ooni that I knew was never given to talking in vacuum. His reflections were usually sharp on issues. His reeled in deep thoughts, thus making predictions that always turned into clinical reality, mostly on local and national politics. “He, indeed, expressed conviction in the political change in Nigeria and the capacity present government to rebuild the country. I recalled also that he talked extensively on the potentials of the Yoruba to assist in the stability of Nigeria given the mindset of the people and their positive disposition to the national cause. “He prayed that the south-west with their contributions to the success of the 2015 presidential election will leverage on that to return to the center and assist in consolidating governance particularly for the emergence of a new Nigeria. “Although, I had wondered the reasons behind the emphasis the Ooni made on support for the new government, yet, I was not shocked because all along, I knew he has been expressing tremendous respect for the President, touching on integrity and his no-nonsense posturing. He had shared his thought on this with some of us his close children long before the last Presidential election” Prof. Aina who advised them to reflect on the wish by Oba Sijuwade for the south-west to take a leadership position in a bid by the government to revive Nigeria by electing a new Oba with capacity to do so, said, “We will trust in your capacity, good judgment and ability to look for a successor with deep vision, experience, candour, exposure and natural disposition to unite Ife and its neighbouring nations. Ife needs an Ooni with strong leadership spirit to unite the Yorubaland while making the south-west to sustain its enviable contributions to the progress and development of Nigeria. “The late ooni, was noted for his ability to break the barriers of phobia in his style of leadership. He was affable, amenable, open, friendly with people from far and near and well versed in foreign relations. He was a Yoruba leader personified. These are the virtues we should look for in the next Ooni” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/what-ooni-oba-sijuwade-told-me-about-buhari-aina/ |
