As Petroleum Minister, oil industry giants and the security architecture built around it network and report with and to him.
But you took only the PTF part because being selectively blind is easier than admitting to the truth. Ignored. |

Infact, what is the assurance that their hands are off the cookiejar? Isnt it possible that they could be siphoning oil, and still be collecting free 4 billion?
I really hope to understand why you should slander Jonathan for paying militants, and defend Buhari for paying the same militants.
May the heavens open my eyes For the gazillionth time I am not defending Buhari. Some of your questions are sound - very even. The issue is, with those contracts, Jonathan could not turn around to fight them. So they held sway. Tompolo and co started flaunting their wealth and you saw how wealthy they became. Under Buhari, even though they had the coordinates and could even bunker and vandalize, he was at war with them so they feared for their lives. It is the way OBJ got Boyloaf and co killed. It was tit for tat. Asari ran to Ghana or Togo because PMB wanted him. Did they not live large when Jonathan was in power? |

We are talking about pipelines that have been laid as far back as the 80s. Do you really think that those creek riff-raffs don't know about its architecture?
Not to forget about locals that work at these rigs and facilities, giving out information for some greasing?
Why can't you also assume that Jonathan was paying the militants so they can back off, and lets have our normal bpd in place?
I'm not holding any brief for Jonathan, but its evidently clear he must always be the villian, and Buhari, the hero Some of us who know Jonathan personally can tell you one or 2 things you may never know otherwise. Corruption was always rife in Nigeria but he took it to astronomical levels. That is what many of you don't want to accept. Nobody is villanizing him and extolling Buhari. Both failed. One just over-failed. In this instance, Jonathan overdid it by giving the source of the problems the control over that same source. He gave the Hyenas the role of protecting the Goats. |

Buhari was appointed PTF Chairman in 1994 while Jonathan was a young man.
Buhari as PTF Chairman and as Minister of Petoelum for 7+ years knows more about the pipe locations than Jonathan ever will. You don't know the role of a PTF Chairman. Clearly. I don't think you know about O&G in Nigeria at all. No offense. |

Why are you not making this same case for Jonathan? I am not sure you understand me or G.G. Militants did not have the coordinates before. They just vandalized what they could find. Jonathan opted to pay them to 'protect' it so he had to tell them where it was and how it was networked. Buhari stopped paying them and even tried to get them arrested. Then they fought back by returning to vandalism- this time more potently as they knew the coordinates better than ever since, Jonathan did what he did. |

User09: Hi Android17,
What do you think of the Dangote's refinery and the (expected) possibilities around solving the subsidy problems. Is there any hope in that regard.
Off the top of my head, I think there are different kind of structures that can be created for competitive economies (with Dangote's partnership of course) seeing as most of the Oil marketers are part of a cartel
Concerning Oil theft, I would think foreign mercenaries are our best bet - at least short term; especially if you think of the rot in our security system plus the incentive of Oil money
I would really like to hear your views Bro, not trying to be overly pessimistic but Dangote will join the cartel because he is in business to make money. Oil theft, militancy and the Navy are all intertwined which is why it will never end in Nigeria. That is what I was pointing out to the other guy but they think everything is about APC or Buhari. Jonathan gave the coordinates to Nigeria's oil pipeline distribution network to militants in the guise of the protection contracts so of course production was not as affected since he was settling the main detractors. Then Buhari stopped it initially so they fought back like they did against OBJ. That is not to say crude theft and bunkering is not ongoing. It is not any more significant than it ever was in the past. Fact. The news about discovering secret pipelines was after Buhari decided to offer something back to Tompolo and co. That was their way of showing him what his money could do. They knew those coordinates because GEJ gave it to them courtesy, Deziani. |

Ellexy: So to you the solution to this is moving back to PDP? He will go back to his brothers but this time he has the bigger fish to fry so they'll comply. Peter Obi is PDP through and through and they have the structure he needs. Or else he will be like Azikiwe - a ceremonial president. You cannot make significant changes without the NASS as they collectively have veto power against the president. The few things he will be able to do will be by executive orders and who can he force to implement them? Law enforcement? The military? They won't fear him because he cannot make substantive appointments without that same NASS endorsing it. Even the fact that NNPC can deduct what they like before making remittances is crazy but guess what? You need that same NASS to change the law concerning how deductibles from crude oil sales are collected. Will they do it? No way because NNPC pays them hefty bribes to keep the status quo. That is the vicious cycle we are talking about. |

liveLongNprospa: So how is it that our production suddenly fell below the normal threshold when apc came into government? This is another thing people have said on this thread but it is simply not true. The dip in production was the lowest since 2009. The reason is simple. Ellexy: Nihilistjnr I get your point but what you're suggesting is what has gotten us in the mess we are as a nation. When everyone's thinking and acting selfishly so far they're beneficiaries of the government or for bragging rights in terms of ethnicity, region and religion. If this is logical thinking, I don't want any of it. It’s selfish, shortsighted and most importantly counter productive as far nation building is concerned. The consequences are always disastrous both in the short and long run.
The top parties you mentioned have the country on choke hold. Peter Obi could have easily remained in PDP to be Atiku's running mate but he didn't. A lesson learnt after 2019.
It's clear Nigerians don't trust the leadership anymore. The ruling elite knows this that's why they're desperate to maintain their grip over the nation but Obi offers something different. You can see this from the posture and body language of the elite. They clearly don't want an Obi led administration maybe cause they know he's not corrupt as they are.
I don't believe Obi will perform a miracle if elected. He's not Jesus Christ but we need someone who'll lead by example, who's transparent and accountable to the people, has no history of corruption or links to terrorism, physically and mentally sound, no questionable or dodgy history, serious about insecurity and tackling corruption.
Nigeria can work but it needs a sound mind, a strong will and a correct head to work. I believe Peter Obi if elected will not just benefit me, he'll benefit every Nigerian who wants a Nigeria that works. He's an epitome of hope to the youths and to the average educated Nigerian. He's the best man for the job. Where have I read this before? 1. Body language 2. The elite don't want him 3. No history of kwarruption. I wish Obi will win so I'll read your excuses for him when he starts by decamping to PDP. |

nihilistjnr: This is where clowns tend to falter.
NNPC is not remitting to CBN - why? They are using the dollars to subsidise Nigerian fuel.
There is Corruption in Subsidy. Marketers are stealing money. Are you prepared to pay full price for Petrol if the government ends Subsidy?
It was only last year that I bought petrol at £2 a litre...at today's exchange rates that's about N1900 a litre. In USA the price hit $8 a gallon.
Right now the price of petrol here is £1.50 a litre. That's like N1300 per litre. They are talking about cost Energy crisis - my monthly Electricity bill is £500 per month as standard cos I live in a big house and it's all electric - winter cold has pushed my Electric bill alone into £700 territory.
This is what unsubsidised energy looks like.
No Nigerian Government would last a week if they ever exposed Nigerians to these kind of prices. Which is why successive PDP and APC Government's have run away from it, and accepted the corruption around Subsidy as the price to pay for staying in power.
It's not by shouting about corruption. It's a very small group rotating power between themselves and they know Nigeria is essentially unfixable, which is why the only logical thing for them to do is to at least cash out. You are 1000% correct. I wanted to point out to him that NNPC has to make their deductions before remitting the remainder to the CBN. If nothing is left after deductions, what will they remit? I saw some Obi supporters posting the screenshots of Emefiele's out-of-context comments and I knew most if not all of them did not understand what they were posting. |
