They did so well at the last World Cup

A mix of easy fixtures and some luck(You need this in Knockout tournaments though)...

Combined HBOMax/Discovery streamer pushed back to Spring 2023.
HBOMax expansion halted till 2024.

Further cost savings/cancellations anticipated. Zaslav needs additional $3bn liquidity.

Zaslav betting big on DC Studios and HBO to deliver, as well as theatrical haul.

Work on "Superman, Harry Potter and LOTR projects" in the pipeline.

Cc Anfieldfan, how do you see this data??

Things are definitely not rosy at WBD....
But to be sincere, this isn't entirely on Zaslav , WBD has taken on a huge pile of debt incurred primarily by At&T who had no idea what they were doing...

I read somewhere that WB's stock is down roughly 55% this year, and even though this isn't positive, it's not really telling as WBD has a great content of Library to pull them through (and up to June at least, had a higher cash flow than Disney ) both for their Long term debt and Short term..

Y'all should cut the man some slack, man's scrambling for liquidity to meet fixes charges..

Also, on another hand, Black Adam will most likely lose money for WBD..I hope it doesn't alter any plans..It isn't getting released in China ...

lol...Yes. Yts releases aren't the finest quality in 2022 because they encode in Mp4 and other sites have adopted Mkv which is significantly better than MP4. Except your device ( Mobile or TV) is pre 2016, you shouldn't be looking at Mp4 in 2022.

Pros
-They have a large collection of oldies stretching as far back as i could remember. I got The Wizard of Oz (1939) from them!

Cons
-They encode in Mp4
-There files are hosted on torrent, so you will need a torrent client.
-There are so many clones and you could easily end up in a clone and download a useless file.
-Terrible UI.
For new releases below are the sites you should be looking at. The order is from my most preferred to least.

Psa rips - Prestine encoders and the finest quality and they occasionally do 4K releases for big budget titles. And all their encode is x265 with occasional 10bit releas. Dem sabi work die. But the con is that they don't do unpopular releases.

Pahe - These guys are good too and do all kind of releases from any part of the world. Their main encode is in x264 but do occasional x265 encodes. Their main advantage over PSa is that they upload files to google drive and Google drive is so stable and fast when it comes to download.

Olamovies - If you are on a data budget, don't near this site lol. The site is own by some indian guys with unlimited data to play with. They do all releases but their base resolution is 1080p up to 4K HDR. You even find complete old series or movies in the finest quality here but with outrageous sizes. They upload to Google drive too.

Then if you know your way around telegram and how to use bots on thier, it will save you a lot of time and hassle. Can't remember when i visited Psa last. There is a telegram page that upload files from them and i just send the file to a Google drive bot and download away cheesy

Shalom cheesy

Even if we adjust the break even point to 2.7x, the profitability point of BA is still around $600-620mn I postulated earlier.
Of course I know since the movie cost a lot more than average movies it's profit point will be higher.
Still, the link you provided still states ALL movies hitting the 3.1x multiplier probably made profits.
Going by that Black Adam needs 620mn.

I found a bit of issue with the data posted for A Star is Born. Generally, movies don't spend market budgets above the production costs itself. Not to talk of tripling / 33% above production budget. I find that data questionble.

What I know movies have about 50%+ of its production spend for marketing & distribution or in some rare cases almost equal to prod costs.

Anyways still, tripling your production budget might not necessarily translate to profitability as backend deals or BO revenue participation of actors and/or producers might affect a films profitability. Also, domestic/international box office ratios might determine profitability as well as China gross.

But the general rule of thumb, 3x upwards a movie's production budget is profitability point.

I agree with this...I just wanted to correct the initial 500m break even point for Black Adam...
A Star is Born is an outlier....Many studios do not do that...And I think it was competing with Venom, can't remember....

Let me share something a lot of people do not know...
Studios have annual marketing budgets.. They assign to different movies marketing budgets depending on the earning potentials of said movies...
Blockbusters receive the highest so as to recoup their investment as early as possible..
Oscar baits..Low budget movies etc...
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by AnfieldFan: 7:43pm On Oct 29, 2022
abduleez1:

Black Adam doesn't need 600mn to break even.
It's break even point is $500mn which is 2.5x its budget.

$600mn means it's profitable. Anything above that are bonuses

It's break even point is 540 or thereabouts.....The general rule of thumb for budgets of 80m and above is 2.7*....

9 times out of 10, any 200m movie that grosses 500m WW did not recoup it's investment...
BA being a 195 movie still falls under the same metric...

The popular 2.5x came about from a wide evaluation of films in general which includes a lot of low budget films....

I don't know if I will get banned for this but check this link out...

I don't think so. Here's my initial thoughts on the movie. ↓↓

Based on a rough estimate and calculations I did yesterday taking into account Black Panther's release, I'm seeing something around $580-650mn.
It would get high 600mn mark if it does really well in China. I'm looking at $120mn at least for the Middle Kingdom. Could add up $70mn or more.

But The Rock is probably the leggiest actor in this era. That's one key factor to consider. There's also upcoming BP which we have to take into consideration on how the film will perform when it gets solid competition.

But he has faced stiff competition before even recently. Many people forget 2019 where Jumanji had to face off with Star Wars in December. And it still hit $800mn while SW did $1bn. Judging by these, we never can tell.
We'll see.....
If it gets 600m with China, it will break even...
If it keeps on tracking like this though(mid week), it will need around 150m from China to get 600m WW..

That Eternals and Venom comparisons is somewhat inaccurate or misleading. The way it's put one would think Black Adam scored domestic debut 94% more than Eternals. It's maliciously misleading as Eternals bowed with $70mn domestic while Black Adam was $67mn opening weekend. Eternals had $165mn worldwide debut while BA was at $140mn.

As I said, wait till 2nd weekend before you can judge. Over 50% drop in weekend two is normal for CBMs, when it drops over 65% that's when you start to worry. From all indications it's doing well presently.

If it falls to Eternals' 2.31x that's $154,779,986

If it's Venom's 2.37x that's $158,800,245

Let's say it even holds better than Venom 2's legs at 2.4 that still barely breaks the $160M mark at $160,810,375

Considering the suggested 2.7x multiplier for blockbuster movies needing OS heavy lifting to breakeven on its budget, this movie needs $380M from OS markets including China to get past $540M WW..
Copied...

The point of the post was to highlight it tracking very close with two post-pandemic films whose legs were 2.31x and 2.37x... Ergo, my post about it's legs looking wonky...

Also, it's obvious to any one who knows about B.O numbers or interested in those sort of things that the post was strictly referring to the tracking of B.A in comparison to Eternals and Venom post opening, I don't think it was misleading at all...

I'm not judging it, this is me saying Purple's 1 billion + total doesn't look possible...Or even your prediction of 700m I think...
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by AnfieldFan: 6:41pm On Oct 28, 2022
abduleez1:

Legs still decent. It's this weekend performance that you'd really tell how it's going to be like.

After its opening weekend, Black Adam was at 94% of Eternals. But by this point, BA is now at 91% of Eternals. Which means so far, Black Adam is tracking worse than Eternals.

It was tracking at 74% of Venom 2, and is now at 76% of Venom 2. So it is holding slightly better than Venom 2, so far.

But in either case, it is tracking very close with two post-pandemic films whose legs were 2.31x and 2.37x. None of this on its own bodes well for Black Adam's legs, but it's going to get real ugly when Wakanda Forever drops.

Copied....

On another note, It needs China's heavy lifting...

Generally, high budget Blockbuster's like this need 2.6/7* multipliers, OS heavy lifting becomes very necessary...

We can wait for this Weekend though...

I don't think it will go over 650WW..

I'm seeing suggestions of a high 50's% drop this weekend..
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by AnfieldFan: 6:33pm On Oct 28, 2022
Purple....You said 1.7 for Black Adam...

I don't think it will get 650...It's legs are looking wonky....
