FamilyRe: Please Check; Your Advice On Is Need! by AngelSlay: 1:11pm On Dec 22, 2024
It's understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed by your partner's constant complaints, especially when they seem minor to you. However, it's essential to approach this situation with empathy and understanding.

Communication is Key
1. Choose the right time and place: Find a private, quiet spot where both of you feel comfortable and won't be interrupted. Make sure you're both in a relatively calm state of mind.
2. Use "I" statements: Instead of accusing your partner of being overly critical, express your feelings using "I" statements. For example, "I feel overwhelmed when you point out small mistakes I make" or "I feel like I'm walking on eggshells to avoid making you unhappy."
3. Specific examples: Share specific instances where you felt her complaints were unfair or excessive. Be objective and focus on the behavior rather than attacking her personally.
4. Listen actively: Give your partner space to share her perspective and feelings. Listen attentively to what she says, and try to understand where she's coming from.

Understanding Her Perspective
1. Reflect on her past experiences: It's possible that her complaining behavior is rooted in past experiences or insecurities. Try to understand if there's a deeper issue driving her behavior.
2. Acknowledge her feelings: Validate her emotions, even if you don't agree with her perspective. Show empathy and understanding, and acknowledge that her feelings are real.

Finding a Solution
1. Set boundaries: If you feel like her complaints are becoming too much, it's essential to set clear boundaries. Let her know what you're comfortable with and what you're not.
2. Encourage constructive feedback: Suggest that she provide feedback in a more constructive and specific manner. This can help you understand her concerns better and address them more effectively.
3. Foster a positive and supportive environment: Make an effort to create a positive and supportive atmosphere in your relationship. Encourage each other, celebrate small wins, and show appreciation for each other's efforts.

Evaluating the Relationship
1. Assess the overall relationship dynamics: Take a step back and evaluate the overall dynamics of your relationship. Consider whether the positive aspects outweigh the negative.
2. Consider counseling: If you're struggling to resolve issues on your own, consider seeking the help of a couples therapist. A professional can provide guidance and support to help you both communicate more effectively and work through challenges.
3. Prioritize your own emotional well-being: Remember that your emotional well-being is crucial. If you feel like the relationship is becoming too draining or toxic, it may be necessary to reevaluate whether this relationship is healthy for you.

It sounds like you've had a profound realization. Recognizing that your gateman's aspirations and desires are valid, despite his occupation, is a beautiful display of empathy and humility.

Life's Lessons
1. Social status is not everything: Your experience has taught you that social standing or occupation doesn't define a person's worth or potential.
2. Empathy and understanding: By putting yourself in your gateman's shoes, you've gained a deeper appreciation for his feelings and desires.
3. Self-reflection and growth: Your newfound awareness has encouraged you to reevaluate your own life and aspirations.

Breaking Down Barriers
1. Challenging societal norms: Your story highlights the importance of challenging societal expectations and biases.
2. Fostering inclusivity and respect: By recognizing the value and dignity of every individual, regardless of their occupation or background, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Moving Forward
1. Embracing life's challenges: As you said, "Life is hard," but it's also full of opportunities for growth and learning.
2. Pursuing your goals: Don't be afraid to chase your dreams, just like your gateman is pursuing his own aspirations.
3. Treating others with kindness and respect: Continue to spread empathy and understanding, and remember that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Keep shining, and remember that life is full of surprises and opportunities for growth!

I see so many comments here on grades and all that...
All i can say is irrespective of what you graduated with, pick a career path that matches with your personality and stick to it, become better at it and get certifications. You're good! And this is for people who don't want to go through the skill route.

My brief; i went to university, Came out with 2.2 Ent and business mgnt.. when I started applying for roles, i was getting offers at the bottom of the food chain. Then i saw the need to upskill myself being that i was really good at managing people and bringing out performance in People. I begged my friend to take me up in his little organisation as an hr officer and was doing certifications, joined groups related to my line and got a mentor.. 6 months into that i updated my cv to a year as an hr officer and applied to a multinational company as a grad trainee in hr.. i got the job because i understood the basics.. Now I'm 4years in hr as a manager at my age.
Not to brag but I don't stress to get a new job.

In essence.. a degree doesn't stop you from developing yourself and standing out..

This is my experience and 2Cents.. I'm not here to argue but encourage someone.. byeee
FamilyRe: Things That Has Changed About Xmas These Days by AngelSlay: 11:00am On Dec 19, 2024
Christmas celebrations in Nigeria have undergone significant changes over the years. Here are some key differences:

- Shift from traditional to modern practices: In the past, Christmas celebrations were deeply rooted in traditional practices, with a focus on community and family gatherings. Today, there's a noticeable shift towards more modern and Westernized practices, with an emphasis on individualism and consumerism.

- Increased commercialization: Christmas has become a major commercial event in Nigeria, with businesses and corporations capitalizing on the festive season to promote their products and services.

- Changes in traditional food and drinks: While traditional Nigerian dishes like jollof rice, fried chicken or goat, and tomato stew are still popular during Christmas, there's a growing trend towards more modern and Western-style cuisine.

- Growing influence of social media: Social media has become a significant factor in shaping Christmas celebrations in Nigeria. People now share their holiday experiences, traditions, and cultural practices online, creating a sense of community and connection.

- Increased focus on charity and giving: Many Nigerians now use Christmas as an opportunity to give back to their communities, with a growing emphasis on charity work, volunteering, and philanthropy.

- Changes in family dynamics: With more Nigerians living abroad or in urban areas, Christmas celebrations are no longer limited to traditional family gatherings. Many people now celebrate with friends, colleagues, or online communities because of the insecurities.

These changes reflect the evolving cultural, social, and economic landscape of Nigeria, while still maintaining the core spirit of Christmas as a time for celebration, giving, and community.

CareerRe: Is 100k A Good Salary In Abuja? by AngelSlay: 10:57am On Dec 19, 2024
Congratulations on your internship offer. Considering the cost of living in Abuja, consider the following expenses:

Monthly Expenses in Abuja
- Rent (single room in Lugbe): ₦150,000 - ₦180,000
- Feeding: ₦30,000 - ₦50,000
- Transportation: ₦40,000 - ₦60,000
- Utilities (electricity, water, etc.): ₦5,000 - ₦10,000
- Internet and phone bills: ₦5,000 - ₦10,000
- Miscellaneous (sundries, entertainment, etc.): ₦10,000 - ₦20,000

Total estimated monthly expenses: ₦120,000 - ₦200,000

Given your internship salary of ₦100,000, it might be challenging to cover all expenses, especially considering the high cost of living in Abuja.

Factors in Your Favor
1. Frugal lifestyle: Your simple and non-materialistic lifestyle will help reduce expenses.
2. Upcoming NYSC allowance: Your NYSC allowance will provide an additional source of income.
3. Potential for remote work: Your cloud/software engineering skills may open up opportunities for remote work, which could increase your earning potential.

Recommendations
1. Explore affordable accommodation options: Look for shared apartments or rooms outside Lugbe to reduce rent costs.
2. Budget and prioritize expenses: Create a budget and prioritize essential expenses over discretionary spending.
3. Develop a side hustle: Utilize your skills to develop a side hustle, such as freelancing or online tutoring, to supplement your income.
4. Prepare for NYSC: Plan ahead for your NYSC deployment and consider how you'll manage your finances during this period.

Overall, while ₦100,000 might be a tight budget for Abuja, your frugal lifestyle and potential for additional income sources will help. Be prepared to make adjustments and explore opportunities to increase your earning potential.
