Mikolion87:

I'm tired of educating adamant medical students who feel threatened that there is a course (Dentistry) beginning to pull weight and adjudged to be the most strenuous .

My friend, have you asked yourself what dental students study in their 5th year after they separate with their classmates in Medicine (after part 2 or 3rd mbbs exam). They actually begin the main rotations and lecture series in internal medicine and surgery plus short postings (ENT, radiology, ophthalmology etc) and then write the exam sometimes with the final year medical students or independently as 4th BDS, after which they enter 6th year.

You will never know this because dentists are not interested in the facade of arguments of which course is better. At your level that is probably what you're interested in, but Doctors at our level who know their onions reason in another realm. Physicians and Dental surgeons know they are colleagues and do not concern themselves with such dilapidated talks.

Just face your studies and read so you can become a doctor. When you come to my level, perhaps you'll begin to see things differently.

You all just want to deviate this post by showing your insecurities.. There's no need for that. Learn the lessons and move on.

Loool... Just shut up already. You're embarrassing yourself too much o'er here.

kman3000:
to start with, there isn't really anything like course in MBBS, it is all, from cover to cover. You need to be proud of your profession as a dentist, you don't need to attempt downgrading mbbs for bds to make ur profession seem more difficult to attain. MBBS is MBBS, BDS is BDS, we are professional colleagues. Imagine you easily saying you didn't just do some courses further attempting to massage an ego you don't have. You are a dentist period, I'm a doctor and I'm proud of it. You making sound as though you could be called upon for obstructed labour, or burst abdomen. All these points to inferior complexities, and you don't need it. Dentistry is a good course likewise medicine.

I am just laughing here at how much he's trying to prove a point he shouldn't have pointed out ab initio.

In my school here, dentistry students rotates medicine and surgery in part 4 with medicine students ...together with path and pharm.

Afterwards, they have nothing in common anymore, medicine students go on to O&G, paediatrics, psychiatry, dermatology, orthopaedics, radiology, in part 5, then medicine, surgery and community health in part 6.

Meanwhile dental students don't rotate with them in these.. Yet he said "dental students don't just do few medicine courses"

"By implication medicine and surgery too"

This is not correct. Dentistry is dentistry. And medicine and surgery is just as it is.

Do you have any stat to back this? It is an open petition and anyone can sign it. While there would be those who subscribe to HBO to stream the show, I'd like to believe there are so many who don't. Plus, I believe many are finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact that the show is coming to an end tonight.

People need to understand that it doesn't necessarily have to end the way they envisaged.

I agree it doesn't have to end the way we see it.

They want it remade. Like they would personally pay Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington $500,000 per episode like HBO had been paying. undecided

You are right bro. It's a big surprise to me to see little kids coming here to just talk to feel relevant. That was how one came here this morning and said he know of a young nurse as in just finished from nursing school earning 550k per month in Lagos.

Very interesting indeed.

Family / NGO That Specializes In Rehabilitating Wayward Teens, Drug Addicts.. by angiography(m): 10:01am On Feb 20, 2019
Good morning everyone,
I met with a woman in a market here over the last weekend. With one thing leading to another, she relayed her concern about her daughter to me- a young girl of 16yrs who just finished secondary school last year. The mother and father has been living separately for some 8yrs now...leaving the mother to cater for the girl alone.

The issue is the girl has ran "agog". Talking about Sex, drugs, alcohol...sometimes she would leave home for three days without telling her whereabouts. The woman sent her for an apprenticeship, she never showed up at work. Education? She spent the money meant to purchase jamb form.

I have been able to meet with this girl, and trust me, when she is sober, she's such a sweet young girl. But I don't think I have the capacity to handle this case.

I want to ask if anyone here knows NGO that specializes in rehabilitating wayward teens, addicts...what-a-view....I'd be grateful if I could be directed to one. I've met with the Lagos state government ministry for youth development, ntoor, the woman at the end of the line was far from interested.

Very obviously, people have limited knowledge about the field of dentistry. I have tried to create some awareness not withstanding my busy schedule. There's a post on nairaland which expounded adequately on the curriculum of dentistry and answered all the questions you have asked. You can google it.

But in a nutshell:
. Dentistry is a 6year course leading to the award of BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) degree.
. Involves training in both Medicine (mbbs exams with exception of the 4th mb) and dentistry (bds exams), hence considered by many as the most stressful course of study
. When the term "medical doctor" is used by medical professionals, dentists are not exempted. The term "medically qualified" is applicable to only medical and dental doctors.
. Both Medical and dental doctors belong to the same body of Doctors (NMA, MDCN)
. Both are paid the same salary with same salary scale (CONMESS)
. Both undergo postgraduate trainings in West African College of Surgeons and National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria to become Specialists/Consultants
. None is inferior to the other as the posts of Chief Medical Director is restricted to the duo.

Fields in dentistry where one can specialise is as follows:
-oral/maxillofacial surgery, oral pathology, oral medicine, periodontology, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, community dentistry, prosthodontics etc

The only problem here is if your friend will be prepared to go through the hectic academic schedule as many of the students end up failing out after the first professional exam (2nd mbbs) and subsequent exams.

with the way you reduced that other guy to nothingness, one would think you are omniscient in things pertaining to Dentistry.

Alas, you're infallible....

NYSC / Re: Your NYSC Questions Answered by angiography(m): 3:42pm On Apr 27, 2018
Good afternoon... Please, I have a serious challenge. I am presently a student but in the course of talking with some estwhile corps members, I gathered some things might be wrong with my certificates

Okay Pls read patiently.

I just found out the date of birth on my WAEC certificate does not tally with the ones I used to register on jamb and subsequently other school documents. This was a mistake made during registration of the WAEC as my original date of birth is the one on my jamb and school documents and even national ID...PVC et al.

Please what possible problem will I encounter during mobilization for NYSC and how possible can I rectify it. I've been to WAEC office and they said amendment of DOB isn't done anymore.

Pls I need your advice

I suspect you are like other ignorant Nigerians who equate feminism with everything
bad in the society but try to separate feminism from the fight against oppression of women.
It would benefit you to use your own advice and use google.
Ambode by walking against gender violence has taken a feminist stance on issues
Nigerian cavemen would start asking stupid questions and suggestions such as: what did she wear, women
should stop insulting their husbands.

To cap this off, the fight against sexual violence has everything to do with feminism.
I hope this "revelation" doesn't make you start supporting sexual violence since anything feminism is bad.

Wow this is great. Fighting against sexual violence isn't a feminism issue, it's a fight for human right. She's first a human before she's your wife.

Well, I'll quite disagree with that statement. I won't ordinarily quite disagree but strongly disagree, students still read, at least, in OAU that I know. @angiography, what's your say on this?

To be sincere, I'll want to agree with him...at least judging from this present crop of part 1 students going to 2, I was once forced to think if they had interest in education at all (well, some blame it on the mode of admission!)

But generally, I would say the problem stems from our high schools. Many undergraduates are ill-prepared to take on rigorous University workload.
Bad, poor and ineffective teaching facilities are all factors. I'm in college and our MB results will be released today.... The result is the poorest in 5 years! Yet many logged no less than 10 hrs of reading per day

Thanks very much @angiography, God bless you. I'm not a fresher actually, I actually did carry a course (1-unit course), I'll retake it this coming section, I'll tryan get an A and trust God, that'll end like a C on the ordinary, not very bad. Thanks once again.

1 Unit!!... Wow. Well, you'll do well. It's all written over your post... You'll be fine
Education / Re: Help! Oau Students!!! by angiography(m): 8:11am On Mar 01, 2018
Unfortunately, that's the fate of many of great Ife students....check this pix to know the extent of failure in say, chm 101 last year.

Education / Re: Help! Oau Students!!! by angiography(m): 8:07am On Mar 01, 2018
I assume you're a fresh student. So, let's say a student fails chm101, a 4 unit course, he gets 0/20. Since F (scoring below 40) has no grade, whereas a student with A in that same course will have 20/20!.

Now, having F in a course means one would retake the course another year (except if you're in college of health sciences and pharmacy where any failure - even in practical - in 100l leads to an automatic repeat of the whole year ). Retaking the course, chm 101 now, and say you passed it with an A should ordinarily make you have 20/20! But here in OAU, the two times you've taken it would be added together and average would be found.... So, having an F in the original year(0/20) and A in the carry over (20/20) will give you a cumulative of 20/40.....
