Politics / Re: Lagos Targets N1trn Yearly Budget In Two Years by annamaria: 11:01am On Jul 26, 2016
aao:
The plan is to increase taxation on all levels. The money will be obtained from the masses living within the state.
For example last week, the mobile court with a team of Arned policemen and some amateur photographers in Lagos state branded vehicles went about streets and removed plate numbers of cars parked on the street, in front of banks and eateries. They make a video of it and then paste a notice to come retrieve ur plate number at alausa.
At alausa a case file would be opened ASAP and u would face a chief Judge there and then. They provide both prosecuting and defendant lawyer. Your lawyer would advise u to plead guilty so that the case would not be adjourned. People have been forcefully made to part with sums from 15 k to 25 k, options of 1 week community service or 1 month imprisonment or something more severe.

Some of this cars are correctly parked in front of banks , as in the allotted parking spaces while I agree others are parked on the road. In the course of revenue generation lagosians will suffer.

My dear, that is exactly the plan, to tax the living daylights out of the long suffering Lagos worker. We fell victim to that mobile court in the first week of this month. When we heard they were on their way again last week, everyone quickly parked their cars inside the compound. There was no warning, no letters sent to organisations about the mobile court exercise. They came with gun-toting policemen, they would not even say what the issue was. One of the office assistants who helped a staff in my office premises whose phone was ceased because she was recording was whisked away the next day and she slept in their cell.

Every little infraction you commit in Lagos will be fined. And sometimes you won't even know what the offence is.

This is th way the IGR of N1trl will be generated. Lagosians better be prepared for the harassment of their lives and those jumping about hailing Ambode, pray you don't fall prey to the many antics of the multiple law enforcement agencies that have been unleashed in Lagos.
Career / Re: 400 Disengaged Diamond Bank Staff Protest Non-payment Of Severanc by annamaria: 1:00pm On Jul 11, 2016
There are laws that protect workers. Unfortunately they are not applied and the workers themselves are oblivious of what their rights are. Many organisations in Nigeria keep acting with impunity. If you lay people off, the least you can do is pay them off to tide them over while they look for new jobs or set up their business.

We are signatories to ILO. Ministry of labour is failing big time.
Career / Re: Ciscon MD Sacks Staff Who Were On The Rig Through Email (photos) by annamaria: 8:42am On Jul 11, 2016
Poor HR practice. This is what happens when the HR personnel is not a professional and panders only to the desires of management. The role of HR is to advise management and not simply do what the management wants.

Unfortunately also, many Nigerian employees do not know their rights otherwise many organisations will not misbehave the way they do. Those guys should take the company to the Industrial court.

I doubt if Chevron will react kindly to the development.

Politics / Re: Man Thanks Ambode For Repairing Bad Spot Causing Traffic In Addo Road(pics by annamaria: 6:49pm On Jun 19, 2016
drewcougar:
Abeg, Nigerians should stop being silly joor. Thanking Ambode for repairing one small spot on the road How is that work? Is that the real issue?

I have lived in Addo - Badore for over 5 years and we have complained about several things over the years and are still complaining. That very spot was still an issue last year and the year before. It is definitely not the case of complaining yesterday and having it fixed today because we have been complaining since.

This past week was not the first time I was getting home at 12 midinght because of that very spot. And to top it all off, the road constructors drove past two other bad spots on the road, one at the u-turn before Akins bustop and the other at Okeira-nla bustop (a few meters in front of the spot they fixed). What would it have taken to just permanently fix those too. They want to wait until they become as bad as the spot they just fixed before they roll in to "save the day" again??

There is also a hole at Addo roundabout that shows up every couple of months and gets wider and wider (like it is doing right now) until it becomes a problem that they finally come to patch up.

Lets not be fickle. We dont vote these people in to come and help us patch roads. We need them to be thinking of permanent solutions for these sort of problems.

How can there be only one workable road in and out of Addo-Badore? No alternative routes that are driveable so everyone has to come out through Addo road. Whenever something happens to Addo road we are all made to suffer (and there is a huge massive community in Addo, Badore and Langbasa).

If Ambode is looking to appreciated for doing work, then he should do the Okeira-nla road linking to the express at Abraham Adesanya. He should revamp the "Newly built" boat terminal at the end of Badore so that people can have an alternative out of the area. And he should complete the coastal road that runs from VI all the way to Epe so that traffic can be moved off the Lekki-Epe expressway.

That would be something I can applaud and not fixing on spot on the road that is no bigger than my living room. Afterall, are we not all already helping the government to do our roads in the area. I dont hear Ambode congratulating all the landlord associations for helping him fix up roads that he was meant to do.

I didn't even read this before I posted. You are so right. You just said it the way it is. Thank you

That road was bad for so long, had caused so much untold hardship. It took concerted efforts of tweeting @akinwunmiambode before it was fixed. There is another portion of that road, just one bus stop away that has a deep gully already. It's only matter of time and the traffic will be back if that point is not fixed immediately.

Hmmm, I'm liking the idea of the cucumber juice and the cleansing juice @GrammarNazi and Pavore, though I like eating my cucumber and avocado raw.

One thing I know about Nigerians is that many people are addicted to soft drinks. Weaning them off sweet things is a challenge. I'm forced to keep the juice sweet for my customers using pineapples as natural sweetener. I also use a lot of oranges. For commercial purposes, this is what people want. I've tried to educate people about the benefits of juices, beyond it being a replacement for soft drinks which is most people's perception.

As time goes on, I will commence specific health based greens, especially as my clientele grows. My brother-in-law makes all kinds of healthy juices, including herbs and spices, forcing us to drink liquids that include stuff like bitter gourd & turmeric for the health benefits. This is really the way to go, juicing for health and not just for our taste buds.

A picture of my first production. I made a few bottles for a start.

I went to Mile 12 and Ketu markets, bought watermelons, pineapples, cucumber, carrots, mangoes, oranges, lemons and ginger. My first few bottles consisted of everything. It was a learning curve. It was time consuming and stressful because of the cleaning process. I had to sterilise everything with vinegar. I didn't want anyone to fall sick because of my product.

Agriculture / Re: Why I Want To Quit Farming This Year And My Plan For 2016 by annamaria: 4:56pm On May 07, 2016
jasper7:
I want to quit farming this year... I want to go into processing and marketing of food products. I want to manage farmers. Not because farming is not profitable but because some really good farmers I know are suffering. Really suffering. And that is not down to the abundance of food but because they lack the right management practises. It's a big problem and I want to put in my quota in solving it.

I have been restless for a while now. Very restless. Nigeria's economy is sinking with the price of oil.

Statistics show that Nigeria spent 35billion dollars on food importation in 2015. And made a meagre 350 million from food exportation. This is a serious problem. Nigeria is in Trouble

I am speculating that more Nigerians will die of hunger than boko haram's terrorism in the next 10 years if we do not save our economy.

How can we save this economy of ours... There are areas of agriculture that is sweeping in foreign exchange for the country on a daily basis. And there are other areas that we can close up shop. And stop sending our precious cash abroad.

I have been doing some research. I think every well meaning farmer irrespective of his farming interests should have a level of export product to gain some foreign exchange.

We can turn this economic problem to our favour. We can make it the best thing that has happened to us. Believe me, a lot of attention will be transferred to people with exportable product. Considering that Nigeria is desperately scrambling for ways to revive its economy.

Let's set up plantations, farm settlements an farm estates for exportable products.

Hotmas911 already caught the vision as he is setting up a cashew plantation in ogbomosho (Land of Cashew ).

With this I have tried to streamline what I will do in 2016.

When I saw the topic my heart skipped a beat until I read through the vision. I have actually been stumped by the amount of wasted agricultural produce, hence my foray into fresh juice processing.

The way forward will not just be fresh produce outlets, though that will help massively. There's need to be innovative and think long term preservation like drying, mincing, juicing etc. The market is huge and growing by leaps and bounds and demand is escalating. Meeting long term and future demand is crucial.

Look at tomatoes for example. What I bought for a thousand naira yesterday is what I would normally buy for 300 naira in January/February. Imagine if there was some innovative way to preserve tomatoes.

Onions is another case in point. I heard about 60% goes to waste every year in Nigeria.

Hopefully we will wake up to the potential for food processing in Nigeria.

Its a laudable project to embark on. Each time I travel through the Oje fruit market at Ibadan, it grieves me to see the effort of our farmers being Wasted everyday.

I process fruits for fresh juice in Lagos. How can I get fresh fruit from this market? What are their prices like compared to Mile 12 market?

God is good motors is fast losing its credibility.

The drivers use mobile phones freely while driving and take offence when cautioned. I have had to complain severally to the monitoring team but nothing seem to have changed.

The last time I travelled, I was shocked when the driver attempted to keep a fuel-filled plastic can next to him to utilize in the course of the journey. I protested vehemently. He still did anyway though he didn't use the fuel till we arrived at the destination.

The company management needs to sit up as a matter of urgency.

You don't say. Ha! I thought they were one of the disciplined ones. Things are obviously deteriorating with the company.
