TOPIC: PREPARING FOR RAPTURE (PART2): WASHING YOUR GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

TEXTS: REVELATIONS 7: 9-17

REVELATIONS 7:9-17 (KJV)

9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,

12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

INTRODUCTION

One day, I got an email from one lady-evangelist that I exchange end-times email with. In the email, She narrated a testimony she had on one fateful day. The Lord used the testimony to bless and inspire me a lot. I share the testimony as follows.

My friend said she just finished using the toilet and she was washing her hands in the basin. That was about the third time she used the toilet and she washed her hands, each time, after such use. As she washing her hands, she said she heard a voice, which she recognized, in heart. The Voice asked her ‘why are you washing your hands’? I just used the toilet. I am washing my hands to cleanse any germ I might have contacted. She replied. But, You washed your hand in the morning after using the toilet! The Voice reminded her. Yes, I did because I used the toilet in the morning. Anytime, I use the toilet I wash my hands to cleanse any germs I might have contacted. My friend replied.

Why then do you take the washing of your heavenly garment as less serious and unimportant? The Voice finally asked a question that totally caused my friend to have a change of orientation. Perhaps, my lady-evangelist friend never realized she had an heavenly garment that she needed to take its wash as serious as she washed her hands to prevent infection with germs. Perhaps, She realized she has not measured up to expectations in this regard.

Are you in the same shoes my friend was before she had a change of orientation? Do you know you have a garment God reckons with? Do you even know how to take care of this garment? What exactly is this garment for? How is this garment connected to Rapture? If you do not already know these things, this teaching plans to explore them. Or do you already know about this garment but are complacent in handling it? Why then do you take the washing of your heavenly garment as less serious and unimportant?


WHAT IS THE GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS?
To answer this question, let us see from the bible whether we can draw an analogy between types of garment and righteousness. We arrive at two major types as follows.

1) FILTHY RAG (GARMENT), Isaiah 64: 6a
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;

Here, God links a type of righteousness to Filthy rag (garment). If we are to interprete this verse, we can say that, if we are to liken our level of righteousness to the nature of garment we put on, then we can say that all of us are putting on filthy rag and this filthy rag make us, all, unclean. This was the state of any man before he knows JESUS CHRIST. All unrepentant sinners are still like this. No one has power to remove this filthy garment by himself unless He repents in Christ Jesus.

2) FINE LINEN (GARMENT), Revelations 19: 7-8
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Here, God links a type of righteousness to Fine Linen (garment) and says those who will be raptured must be dressed in this garment (see Part 1 of this teaching). Unlike the filthy garment that is unclean, God says this type of garment is fine, clean, and white. When we give our lives to Jesus Christ and became born-again, our filthy rags were removed and we are dressed with the beautiful garment of righteousness, the fine linen. So when we say garment of righteousness in the remainder of this teaching, it is this FINE LINEN, clean and white that we are referring to.


DO YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS?

YES! There is a deliberate need to take care of your garment of righteousness because Jesus Christ says you must take care of it. Lets read Revelations 16:15

15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

Jesus Christ said in this scripture above that if you did not keep your garment, when He comes at rapture, you will walk naked and your shame will be seen. The phrase ‘keepeth his garments’ means exactly two things:

1) To keep your garment means to make sure you did not lose or remove your garment.
2) To keep your garment means to make sure your garment is in proper shape; not tattered, nor wretched.

If you lose your garment or remove it, and have nothing to wear, you will be naked and people will see your shame. Also, if you did not keep your garment very well and it became torn, people will still see your unclothedness and you will be ashamed.

The first case of removing the garment is for the backslider. The bible makes us to understand that Jesus Christ is our righteousness. We put Him (Jesus) on like garment. So, when a believer backslides, he has not kept his garment. He has removed Righteousness (Jesus Christ) altogether from his life. He has removed his garment.

The second case is for believers who have not backslided but have unconfessed and unforgiven sins in their lives. All these sins are defilement to them. They tarnish the righteousness of Jesus Christ that they put on as garment. Even though, they are still in Christ and they have not removed their own garments like the backsliders, their garments have become torn and filthy again. Soon, that filthy garment they put on will expose their unclothedness and people will see their shame.

Keeping your garment, like Jesus Christ said, will help you, believer, prevent yourself from the two situations above, arising from not keeping your garment. The next thing is to look how to keep or maintain (wash) your garment of righteousness clean and white. But before that, let us look at why we need to keep our garment clean and white.


IS GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS IMPORTANT TO MAKE RAPTURE?

Yes! One principal requirement to making rapture is that we must possess garment of righteousness and that it must be holy, white and clean (not filthy) up to the last minute of rapture. Lets briefly look at why this garment and its condition are both necessary at rapture.

1) WITHOUT GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO MAKE RAPTURE Mathew 22:11-14

11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

From the text above, we see how God, The Father, will make the possession of garment of righteousness a prerequisite to be at the marriage supper of The Lamb.

2) IF THE GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS IS DIRTY, STAINED OR FILTHY, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO MAKE RAPTURE Ephesians 5:27, Revelations 19:8-9

Ephesians 5:27
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Revelations 19: 8-9
8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

From the two scriptures above, we see that, to make rapture, God expects the garment of righteousness on us to have ‘no spot’, ‘no wrinkle’, ‘ no blemish’ but that it should be holy, clean and white; the exact state it was when we first surrendered to Jesus Christ. So, in order to know how to keep our garment of righteousness clean and white or how to wash it, first, we have to know what can make it dirty (unclean, spotted, wrinkled).


WHAT COULD MAKE GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS TO BE STAINED, SPOTTED, WRINKLED, AND DEFILED (DIRTY AND FILTHY)?

As we have already shown above that we were in filthy rags before we surrendered to Jesus Christ. These dirty rags just depict how spiritually dirty we were before holy God because of our sins. But when we give our lives to Jesus Christ, He washes away all the sins that brought filthiness to us. He took away the filthy rag and gave us spiritually fine linen of righteousness.

Let us consider 2 cases from the bible

Case 1, Adam and Eve (Genesis 3: 21);
When Adam and Eve fell through sin, they realized they were naked and became ashamed. Their sin exposed their unclothedness, and God put a garment made from the skins (supposedly from an animal) to cover them (Genesis 3:21). By this act, God covered the shame of unclothedness that Adam and Eve were exposed to, through sin. By this act, God laid an example of how Jesus Christ would be slained as a sacrificial animal (lamb) and cover our sin and unclothedness with the garment of righteousness, which is the blood He shed on the cross of Calvary. This was mercy from God. This is why the Bible says Jesus was slain from the beginning of the world, (Revelations 13:.

Case 2, Joshua, The high Priest (Zechariah 3:1-4);
Also, consider the case of Joshua the high Priest, (Zechariah 3:1-4), Satan had a legal right to accuse Joshua, the high Priest, because Joshua was adorned in filthy garment. It took God to rebuke Satan for Joshua's sake. God asked them to remove the filthy garment of Joshua. After removing this filthy garment, God said to Joshua that Joshua's sins had been forgiven him. God directly equated Joshua's filthy garment to Joshua's sin. Then, God clothed Joshua with fine linen. Can you see the sequence?

From the 2 cases above, we can see that is sin that can make a believer be without garment or make his garment dirty and filthy. What stains are on your own garment? How have you soiled your garment since Jesus Christ purchased it for you? Is it the stain of lusts, worldliness, and disobedience to God, immoral dressing or some other stains you have on your own garment?


WASH YOUR GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
As believers, we are not supposed to commit sins deliberately again. otherwise, we face the fierce wrath of God. However, any sin we commit unconsciously is still a sin and will still be a stain to our wedding garment of Lamb of God and must be washed away.

Our text above is very clear about how to wash our garments from stains of Sins. Revelations 7:9-14 above makes us understand that Apostle John saw the people that will make the rapture and all of them have one thing in
common; they have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Verse 14 can be expatiated as follows above.


• All those that made rapture washed their robes; This suggests that their robes were dirty, stained, spotted or filthy initially.

• All of them made their robes white; This suggests that they continued the washing of their robes till all dirts were removed.

• They washed their robes in the blood of Jesus.

All the actions above were done deliberately, not by accident. This verse, Revelations 7: 14 was what the Bible summarized in Revelations 19:7-8.

Revelations 19: 7-8
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

These two verses imply that the bride of Christ deliberately makes herself ready. So, you can see that to wash your garment is to make yourself ready. Will you wash your garment and make yourself ready? Will you come and wash your garment before Jesus comes? Wash! I say wash!


HOW TO WASH YOUR GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

How then do you wash your garment?

Any time you ask God genuinely for mercy and forgiveness of Sins (REPENTANCE) you are washing your garment. This repentance will help you wash away the stains of sins that have come into your life by carelessness, ignorance, or through any other means. These stains will hinder a believer from making rapture if they are not attended to. I do not encourage that a believer commit sin deliberately.

I wash my own garment by saying the following prayer as many times as possible everyday.

Lord, Jesus Christ, have mercy on me. Forgive me all sins. Forgive me all sins that can lead me to hell. Forgive me all sins that can deny me a place in heaven. Forgive me all sins that can make me miss the rapture. Wash me with your blood. Wash my body, soul and spirit. Wash me inside and outside. Wash my garment with your blood and prepare me ready for your coming. Cover me with your blood in Jesus name. Amen.

I say this prayer as many times as possible in a day, even if it is just for 1or 2 minute each time. Sometimes, I say this prayer as many as 10 to 15 times a day or as God allows me. I have attached this prayer to my use of water. Most time I use water for any purpose, I say this prayer. I encourage you also to say this prayer as often as possible in a day. We do not know the day nor the hour that Son of man will come and any little stain of sin will disqualify us. That is why you must wash in his blood all the time to stay blameless.

You can see that, contrary to some believers that say we do not need to ask for forgiveness of sins again apart from the one we asked on the day we give our lives to Jesus, we need to continue repenting till Jesus comes even though we are to avoid committing sins. You also must make conscious effort to run away from sin.


SUMMARY

We have seen that the issue of fine, clean, and holy garment for rapture cannot be waived. It is compulsory and you must wash your garment if you must make rapture, otherwise, people will see your unclothedness at rapture. Wash lust of the eyes, evil thoughts, anger, pride, worldliness that have stained your garments and make them filthy. Once again, wash in the blood of Jesus.


ACTIONS

Are you an elect of Christ? Are you truly saved? Are you on the narrow road? Do you want to make the rapture/heaven? If your answers are yes, then,
• Make all efforts to heed the warnings of Jesus Christ.
• Be watchful. Pay attention to what is happening around the World and see whether they match what the scriptures say.
• Be filled with the Holy Spirit and be in the Spirit all the time.
• Fast, consecrate yourself, run away from sin and worldliness.

If your answers are NO, then you can repent today. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord.


PRAYERS

If you will like to confess your sins and accept Jesus to save you, say the following prayers, sincerely and faithfully and make a determination never to commit sin again.

Lord, Jesus Christ, I am sorry for all my sins. I confess them with my mouth and I ask for mercy. Please forgive me and wash me in your blood. I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. Write my name in the book of life. Give me power over sins and fill me with your Spirit and Joy of Salvation. When rapture trumpet sounds, let me make it. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name, I pray.

Begin to read bible. Begin with the book of John. Pray always. Fast regularly (you can begin with once in a week). Look for a bible believing church where they teach repentance, holiness, salvation and fellowship with them. Pray before you go. Don’t just go to any church. There are a lot of deceptions out there. • Lord, Jesus Christ, wash me in your blood.
• Lord, Jesus Christ, remove filthy garment from me.
• Lord, Jesus Christ, adorn me with fine linen.

Well this is my opinion:
moderation is what the Holy Bible asked us to apply in everything we do.

God did not give Job golden earrings. His friends gave them to him.
Did bible condemn wearing of earrings at one point or the other? Yes.
what I can suggest is that the OP should pray, possibly with fasting to God to hear by himself.
As for me, we dont use them in my home. It is better to be sure than to gamble.
The fact that many people dont even want to drop them shows they may be idolising them.

Regarding the rapture, I do not believe that this event will take place before the great tribulation. The saints will endure this period.

I have never said that rapture would take place before the great tribulation. When it comes to the time of rapture relative to the great tribulation, there are 3 major schools of thought among Christians. they are listed below. Before, I mention them, let me also state that the 2 words TRIBULATION and GREAT TRIBULATIONS are used interwovenly by some christians for the purpose of preaching. For the purpose of classification below, when I say tribulation, I mean the great tribulation.

1. PRE-TRIBULATION : This school of thought believes that the rapture would have happened before the last 7 years great tribulation during which the antichrist would rule. They believe that the church will not witness the great tribulation. they believe the 7 year great tribulation will commence immediately after rapture.

2. PRE-WRATH: This school of thought believes that the church would witness part of the great tribulation but would be raptured at the beginning of it before God pours out His fierce wrath and anger

3. MID-TRIBULATION: This school of thought believes that the church would be raptured in the middle of the great tribulation, about three and a half year into the 7 year great tribulation.

But for me I take my stand with the second classification, PRE-WRATH.

INTRODUCTION

The day of rapture is the day of marriage of our LORD, JESUS CHRIST; the day HE will be spiritually married to HIS wife that HE loves so much, The CHURCH. This is a marriage that will be consummated in heaven. This event is supposed to be the blessed hope of true believers at this time.


As most earthly marriages are done with full preparations from both the groom and the bride, this marriage is no exception as regards preparations. I hardly hear of marriages that are done on impromptu. Before marriages, the parents of both bride and groom take a good time to prepare in advance. The bride takes time to select her wedding gown, her wedding shoes and other items ahead of time and ensures they are in good condition before the day of wedding. The groom does no less. He selects his wedding suit, wedding shoes, wedding rings and other items.


As the wedding day draws nearer, both the groom and the bride put on hold any activity that can hinder their wedding. They begin to put finish touches to their preparations. At this time, the only agenda on their schedules is how to conduct a successful wedding. They continue like this until the marriage is eventually hosted.


Once again, the marriage of Our Lord, JESUS CHRIST, is no exception. GOD, THE FATHER of THE GROOM, JESUS CHRIST, is busy perfecting the plans for the marriage of HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST. The Groom, too, is preparing. The MAIN AGENDA on the calendar of GOD, for now, is this wedding of HIS SON. All pointers indicate this.


But, is the wife preparing for this wedding? Many Christians, over time, have disapproved that believers need to consciously prepare for this wedding. When you try to sensitize some believers, they quickly put up a defence for their non-preparation and reply that nobody knows the day. What an excuse for failure is this?


If we examined our text above, we would see that the whole heaven begin to rejoice for 2 reasons: 1) the day of the wedding is come, and 2) the WIFE hath MADE HERSELF READY. The wife was not made ready. She made herself ready. It takes conscious effort to make oneself ready. It takes self preparation.


But why would the whole heaven be rejoicing because the wife is ready and not because the groom is ready? There are two simple reasons. 1) The bride is the cynosure of all eyes in a wedding ceremony 2) Once the bride is ready, it is most certain that the wedding can now hold. Any believer that consciously refuse to make herself ready will be ashamed because she will not be worthy of that wedding.


Thank God. The wedding has not been held, yet. We can now consciously begin PREPARATIONS FOR RAPTURE.

ALL ARE PREPARING FOR THE BRIDE

It is disheartening that majority of believers are not preparing for rapture, the wedding of the Lamb of God. On this all-important day, the earth and all that will not make this wedding, will be impacted in a way that will be too difficult to reverse. All preparations are in top gears but the bride for whom these preparations are done are not sensitive.


May be we should sensitize ourselves on the levels of preparations that are going on in both heavens and on earth so that we can know that we need to prepare, too, perhaps we have been complacent.


• GOD, THE FATHER, is preparing.

HE is busy sending invitations to you, even you. Mathew 22:1-4.

1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain KING (GOD, THE FATHER), WHICH MADE A MARRIAGE FOR HIS SON (JESUS CHRIST),

3 And SENT FORTH HIS SERVANTS TO CALL THEM (INVITE YOU) THAT WERE BIDDEN TO THE WEDDING: and they would not come.

4 Again, HE SENT FORTH OTHER SERVANTS, saying, Tell them (YOU) which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and ALL THINGS ARE READY: COME UNTO THE MARRIAGE.


• JESUS CHRIST is preparing.

HE is preparing to descend with a shout (of joy) to meet HIS wife. 1 Thessalonians 4:16.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:


• The DEAD in CHRIST are preparing.

• The ANGELS are preparing
They are busy preparing to receive the bride with joy into the wedding banquet. Revelations 19: 7
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.


• The HEAVEN is preparing.

The heaven is busy preparing to open door for the bride to enter. Revelations 6: 14

14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

• The EARTH is preparing.
The earth is preparing to reel to and fro like a drunkard to usher in the Lord (massive earthquake). Isaiah 24: 19-20, Revelations 6: 12
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.


• The SUN is preparing.

The Sun is busy preparing to give off its light. Joel 2: 31, Mathew 24:29, Revelations 6: 12 31

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.


• The Moon is preparing.

The Moon is preparing to turn to blood. Joel 2 : 31, Mathew 24 :29, Revelations 6 : 12

31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.


• The Stars are preparing.
The Stars are preparing to cast down. Mathew 24 :29, Revelations 6 :13
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.


• The Mountains are preparing.
The Mountains are preparing to be moved out of their places. Revelations 6 : 14

14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.


• The Trumpet, even the Trumpet, is preparing.
The Trumpet is preparing to sound to usher in the royal bride of Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15: 52.
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.


IS THE BRIDE PREPARING FOR HERSELF?

We can see that the stakes are high, very high, when it comes to the issues of rapture (the marriage of the bride, the church to the Lord, who redeemed her). Preparations have reached advanced staged.

But what is the bride that all these things are done for, doing? She is busy fornicating with the world. She goes about soiling her wedding garment all around. She makes no effort to put anything in place. She is busy copying the footsteps of her senior sisters, the 5 foolish virgins. She pays no attention to time. She will not learn from her senior sisters, the 5 foolish virgins, who wept bitterly for missing their groom, until she also weeps and gnashes her teeth for missing her own, too.


WILL YOU RATHER PREPARE?

Do the descriptions above fit you? Be sincere with yourself. If the answer is yes, then you are not preparing for rapture. If you continue like this, the door of the wedding banquet might just be shut against you. Mathew 25: 10

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

But there is good news, the wedding has not been held. The door has not been shut. You can still enter if you prepare for it. Though, you are lagging behind in your preparation, you can still make it if you hasten up and make up for the time you lost wandering about. It takes time to prepare your wedding garment.

SUMMARY

This part 1 of the teaching is not really meant for diving into the preparation for rapture but to try to convince you that you have to prepare for rapture, unlike contrary opinion, and to provide a platform for your self-evaluation of how much you have invested towards this wedding.

Now I believe that you have been convinced that there is a deliberate need for you to prepare for the wedding of the Lamb of God. Also, I believe you can evaluate how much you have put into your own preparation.

If your answers are NO, then you can repent today. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord.

PRAYERS

If you will like to confess your sins and accept Jesus to save you, say the following prayers, sincerely and faithfully and make a determination never to commit sin again.

Lord, Jesus Christ, I am sorry for all my sins. I confess them with my mouth and I ask for mercy. Please forgive me and wash me in your blood. I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. Write my name in the book of life. Give me power over sins and fill me with your Spirit and Joy of Salvation. When rapture trumpet sounds, let me make it. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name, I pray.

TOPIC: THE DAY OF THE LORD


TEXT: JOEL 2:28-31

28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before THE GREAT AND THE TERRIBLE DAY OF THE LORD come.


INTRODUCTION

One day, I was seeing off my evangelist-friend to the bus-stop and we decided to buy a piece of bread as we went. The

bread we chose to buy was so small and yet very expensive and we were shocked. In a swift reaction, my evangelist-friend

prayed aloud that our Lord, Jesus Christ, should return quickly. The woman selling the bread also quickly prayed after

my friend that Jesus Christ should come and make Nigeria better.


Then, I realized that the woman had a wrong meaning of what The Lord, Jesus Christ, will do when HE comes. I quickly

explained to her that The Lord, Jesus Christ, is not coming to fix or make Nigeria better when HE comes but rather to

rapture the saints and punish all nations/mankind left behind through the great tribulation. Even, in the church, there

are many misconceptions about the day of the rapture. Many pastors don’t even preach it and yet, millions don’t even

know yet that The Lord is coming. It is because of wrong perceptions like this that I have to prepare this teaching on

the THE DAY OF THE LORD and how to prepare for it (the teaching on preparation for the day of The Lord will come next

after this teaching).


In the text verses we just read, above, Prophet Joel mentioned a lot of events that will happen as a build-up to a

certain day. What day is that? Prophet Joel called it the great and the terrible DAY of THE LORD. Amongst other things,

Prophet Joel said there will be outpouring of HOLY SPIRIT who will bring about many people seeing visions, dreams and

prophesying about wonders in heavens and on earth. He also said the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into

blood before the DAY OF THE LORD. If all these things have to happen to usher in a particular day, then that day is worth

studying.


In verse 31, Joel said “before THE GREAT AND THE TERRIBLE DAY OF THE LORD” This phrase is particularly contrasting (it

looks like word and opposite) and awe-striking. How can a day be both great and terrible at the same time? Anybody who

is not Spirit-filled might be tempted to say that it is not possible. To explore the possibility of this phrase, let us

see more of what the bible has to say about this day.


JESUS CHRIST’ PROPHECY OF RAPTURE

MATHEW 24: 29-31, 36 (I advise reading the whole Mathew chapter 24 for better understanding)

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give

her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth

mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect

from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Then verse 36

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.


COMPARING JOEL’S PROPHECY WITH JESUS’ PROPHECY

From the Mount-Olivetti sermon i.e (the whole of sermon delivered by The Lord, Jesus Christ, on the mountain of Olive in

Mathew chapter 24), Our Lord, Jesus Christ, mentioned a lot of events that will also happen as a build-up to a

particular day, like Prophet Joel also did earlier. In verse 29, The Lord, Jesus Christ, said that the sun will be

darkened and the moon will not give her light and the stars shall fall from heaven. This is similar to what Joel also

said in Joel 2:30 but in Mathew 24: 30-31, Jesus said the SON OF MAN shall come in clouds and HIS angels shall gather

HIS elects and in Mathew 24:36 Jesus said nobody knows this DAY THAT THE LORD WILL GATHER HIS ELECTS i.e. the day that

the Lord will RAPTURE His elects.


So by similarity, the day Joel called the THE GREAT AND THE TERRIBLE DAY OF THE LORD in Joel 2:30 was the day that The

Lord, Jesus Christ, called THE DAY OF RAPTURE in Mathew 24: 30-31.


CAN A DAY BE GREAT AND TERRIBLE AT THE SAME TIME?

Now, we have ascertained by comparing Prophet Joel’s prophecy with Jesus’ prophecy that THE DAY OF THE LORD is the DAY

THAT THE LORD JESUS COMES TO TAKE HIS ELECTS (i.e day of RAPTURE). How then, can this day be both great and terrible

(Joel 2:30)? The answer is simple: THE DAY OF THE LORD WILL BE GREAT FOR THOSE THAT ARE TAKEN BY SON OF MAN(those

raptured) because they will enter into heaven straight away without having to experience death, but THE DAY OF THE LORD

WILL BE TERRIBLE for those that are left behind because they will enter into the great tribulation.


THE DAY OF THE LORD IS TERRIBLE

The bible has just made it clear to us that THE DAY OF THE LORD is terrible and through-out the bible, the bible talks

more that the day of Lord is terrible than it talks that the day is great. The reason for this may be that by talking

more of how terrible the day will be, people may try hard to avoid being left behind at rapture. Let us see what other

Prophets of God has said about how terrible the day of the Lord will be so that we too can work hard to avoid being left

behind at rapture.


PROPHET AMOS’ ACCOUNT OF THE DAY OF THE LORD

AMOS 5:18-19

18 Woe unto you that desire THE DAY OF THE LORD! to what end is it for you? THE DAY OF THE LORD is darkness, and not

light.

19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a

serpent bit him.

20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?


PROPHET ISAIAH’ ACCOUNT OF THE DAY OF THE LORD

ISAIAH 13:6-10

6 Howl ye; for THE DAY OF THE LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:

8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth:

they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

9 Behold, THE DAY OF THE LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall

destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his

going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.


APOSTLE PAUL'S ACCOUNT OF THE DAY OF THE LORD

1 THESSALONIANS 5:2

2 For yourselves know perfectly that THE DAY OF THE LORD so cometh as a thief in the night.


PROPHET ZEPHANIAH’ S ACCOUNT OF THE DAY OF THE LORD

ZEPHANIAH 1:14-18

14 The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty

man shall cry there bitterly.

15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and

gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD:

and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.

18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD�S wrath; but the whole land

shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the

land.

WHY WILL GOD MAKE THE DAY OF THE LORD TO BE THIS TERRIBLE?

For answer to this question, let us go to the book of Isaiah.

ISAIAH 24: 5-6

5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the

ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of

the earth are burned, and FEW men left.


From the above, there are 4 things that God said the people have done. They are listed below:

· People have defiled the earth.

· People have transgressed God’s laws i.e. they have broken God’s laws.

· People have changed God’s ordinances.

· People have broken the everlasting covenants.


All of sins that men commit today must fall into at least one of the categories above. For example, bloodshed, use of

atomic weapons, and so on fall under defiling of earth. Homosexuality, genetic mutation, cloning of babies and so on

fall under changing of God’s ordinance(natural order). Idolatry falls under breaking His everlasting covenant to be our

God and us to be His people and so many sins we commit against Him on daily basis. Because of all these things only FEW

people that have not done any of the 4 things above or that have repented will be raptured and majority of the rest

that are left behind will be burned with the fire of Jealous of God. How terrible can this be?


GOOD NEWS

You can be among these FEW people that will escape. It takes conscious effort to prepare and be ready to escape. Will

you start the preparations today?


CONCLUSION

From all the accounts above, We can see that what the bread-seller (the one I mentioned in the introduction) taught

would happen on the day of the Lord was wrong. In the same way, there are many people in the church that are not

preparing for the day of the Lord in holiness and in righteousness and we can see that what they will go through if they

are left behind will not be what they bargained for.

Amos 5:18 says

18 Woe unto you that desire THE DAY OF THE LORD! to what end is it for you? THE DAY OF THE LORD is darkness, and not light.

To desire the day of the Lord is not to prepare to escape on that day. Those who desire to be left behind at rapture are

those who desire the day of the Lord. And Prophet Amos said they are going to experience woe on that day.The day of the

Lord is terrible indeed! But I pray it will be great and glorious for us in Jesus’ name. Begin to prepare to escape in

Jesus’ name.


RECOMMENDATIONS/ACTIONS

· Be filled with the Holy Spirit and be in the Spirit all the time.

· Pray, Fast, consecrate yourself, run away from sin and worldliness.


If your answers are NO? Why not repent today? Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and forsake sins so that your

name can be written in the book of life. Please, say this prayer genuinely and make sincere determination to forsake

sins and follow Him to the end.

Lord, Jesus Christ, please forgive me all my sins. Watch away my sins with your blood and save my soul. I accept you

as my Lord and Saviour. Write my name in the book of life and help me to make rapture and escape the great tribulations.

Give me power not to return to sins in Jesus name. Amen

· ask Him for forgiveness of all your sins at all times

· begin to live in holiness and righteousness,

· and begin to pray as He said in Luke 21:36
