tactius: The truth is Nigerians have to stop expecting everything to be free.
Take petroleum and power. If we ran both as the businesses they should be run, there would be an improvement in power.
But because prices would shoot up, leading to protests, no politicians would do that.
Atiku rightly proposed privatization of NNPC, then went on to propose increasing subsidy on fuel. The APC's inefficient subsidy regimen too is another issue.
Discos have to be run as businesses. Everyone must be metered. Prices have to go up to cover cost of generation. Profits mist be made and reinvested.
But no political person wants to lose power Where did you see the bold part please? Thanks. |

The problem is
1.It would require tightening of belts, which is politically unpopular
2.It would also mean taking a long term loan, again not popular, again most international lenders don't trust Nigerians
At.any rate, privatization means Nigerians instead of govt pay for power. Buhari was ignorant of all these facts when he made his promise after looking for the job three times Are you for real? |

Ok, wasn't it neglected during PDP's 16 years in power?
Why is it so hard for you to make sense. Was bubu and APC in power in 2013 when the railways were revived to the extent that AreGbese was using it to do propaganda of free ride 2014: Return Aregbesola, Beneficiaries Of Free Rail Services Urge Osun People
Beneficiaries of the free rail service provided by the government of the state of Osun for the Christmas celebration from Lagos to Osogbo have called on the people of the state to ensure that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is returned as the governor of the state in next year’s election.
The call was made over the weekend by the beneficiaries who expressed their belief that the various masses- friendly policies and programme will be enduring as long as Governor Aregbesola remains the governor of the state.
The continued gesture by the Aregbesola’s administration is to accord more people the opportunity to celebrate the Yuletide with their families, friends and relatives in their places of origin particularly in the state of Osun thus, boosting its economy.
The most conspicuous thing at the Iddo Railway Terminus in Lagos was the trooping in of the scores of people who came to enjoy the free rail service provided on the bill of the state government of Osun which has become a ritual during festive periods.
As early as seven o’clock in the morning, the people began to gather at the train station to join the train which took off in Lagos at about twenty minutes after ten en route Osogbo.

The railway linking the economic powerhouse of Lagos and the conflict-hit north of Nigeria has reopened after more than 10 years. The BBC's Will Ross made the 31-hour train journey and asks whether the train line can help unite this divided country.
Nigeria's railways are making a comeback after virtually grinding to a halt.
The first sign of progress is the reopening of the long defunct rail link between Lagos in the south and Kano in the north.
"This is my first experience on a train since I was at school in the early 1990s. I heard about it through BBC Hausa service so I'm giving it a try," says a Lagos-based businessman, as the train rumbles along at a steady 45km/h (28mph).
"Credit to the government, although we need a better service," he says.

plaindealer: 4 months later, In the same 2015 How does a reasonable person blame the administration that REVIVED the trains that Bubu earlier destroyed and handed over to him in good condition for bubu's incompetence to maintain it?Who does that What type of person selectively remembers that governance is a continuity? APC e-confusionists? I woke up as early as 5am this morning in order to catch the train by 7am. On reaching the Enugu train station, we waited for the train till some minutes past 8am before it arrived from Kafanchan where it started it's journey. We boarded the train and left for port Harcourt meanwhile I was going to Aba. The Locomotive train first stopped at Agabani sub-station to pick four(4) passengers and left immediately but before we could know what is happening, two(2) coaches from the train DERAILED(moved off tracks) and that was when I know say yawa don gas!
They had to call Engineers from Enugu station who came after about 40mins with their Jacks to pull the coaches back to track. We thought it's something that will take just like an hour but up till 3:42pm, it was not yet fixed.
It was a horrible experience today cos one of the Engineers lost four of his fingers today when the jack use in lifting the coaches mistakenly slipped off and the heavy duty coach landed on the guys fingers.... it took up to 5mins before the could pull it up but by then, the guys fingers were gone cos it flattened and crushed the bones. when I saw what happened, I simply carried my bag and left the train. I pray the guy gets well soon and government should look into his case.
I have to forfeit my money and go back to Enugu with bus.
Please government should know how best to improve the train situation in Nigeria cos with what I saw today, we still have a long way to go. |

"Fashola said all over the world, when cities and states build municipal rails like what Lagos is doing, their central governments support them morally and financially"
https://www.nairaland.com/2120455/cant-complete-lagos-light-rail
Few months ago same Fashola said this:
Lagos: How We Spent N160bn World Bank Loan on Light Rail Project
The Lagos State Government yesterday justified the N160 billion it borrowed from the World Bank, noting that the fund was channelled to finance its light rail (blue line) project.
However, the state government expressed disappointment at the progress of the project, which it said, was not executed as smoothly as possible, but was optimistic of its completion.
The state Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, said this shortly after inspecting the light rail terminus at the Orile-Iganmu part of the state alongside some members of the state executive council.
Speaking with journalists, Fashola said the project would have been completed in another 12 months despite that the project execution was not as smooth and speedy as he wanted it.
The governor raised questions on the intention of the federal government for publishing the state debt profile in the recent time, wondering what could have informed the decision to make it public.
He said: “I think it was the Debt Management Office of the federal government that published the report that we have a debt of about N160billion. I do not know the intent of the publication.
“But if it was to inform the public, I think we have always kept the public informed anytime we borrow money. If there are other intentions behind that, only those who make the publication would know what the intentions are.
“But you see, when people talk about debt of a state like Lagos, they forget that after Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt and one other country, we have the fifth largest economy in Africa.
“When you are talking of about a billion naira debt to a population of over 21 million people; because if you are measuring the debt, you also have to measure the responsibility. Those are the things people keep in isolation.”
He, therefore, explained that the state government already “has in place, strategies to repay the loan. The federal government was in the know of the state’s decision to take the bond and it approved it.”
He added that the truth “is that what they do not also say is that no state in Nigeria can borrow money outside, from any multilateral agencies without the approval of the federal government.
“What they did not say is that they approved it. No state can raise money by bond the way we have done without the federal government’s approval. Both SEC and NSE are all federal regulatory agencies through which we must pass. If they said okay, it means there must be something good about the debt.
“Our rating as a state is the same as that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, BB minus-stable with a positive outlook. We are the only state in Nigeria that has that rating. The first bond that was taken during my first tenure has been paid; the first tranche has been paid.
“I think the second tranche will be settled around 2016 or 2017. We are already making provisions. The provisions that will be there will be in excess of what is needed,” the governor said
Fashola expressed satisfaction on the progress of the light rail project, though decried the petty delay that was encountered as a result funding, saying the project would have should have been completed in another 12 months.

Lagos N8bn Sunborn Yacht deal, bad business — APC
The All Progressives Congress, Lagos State Chapter, has said the Lagos State Government has quit the Sunborn Yacht Hotel. The party said it was a bad business and the government had abandoned the deal.
The controversial yacht, valued at about N8bn, is an inshore boat hotel.
The state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party had recently accused the state government of corruption. It challenged the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, to speak out on the whereabouts of the yacht and the two helicopters bought by his administration for security surveillance of the state.
The state Chairman, PDP, Mr. Tunji Shelle, while addressing party faithful during the General Assembly of the chapter, had said, “After floating miserably on the Marina water for so long, the controversial Sunburn Yacht, which cost the Lagos State Government, under (former Governor) Bola Tinubu, a whooping N8bn suddenly disappeared, only to be sighted at Thames in England.
“Now, the question is: who orchestrated this 419 and who were the beneficiaries of this waste of public fund. This is certainly a fraud and (Governor Babatunde) Fashola must tell us something he knows about this fraud, failure which he remains an accessory after the fact in the fraud.”
While reacting in an online interview with our correspondent on Saturday, the state Interim Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said the state government took a bad business decision on the yacht and had done away with it.

FG flags off Lagos-Abeokuta train service, offers 3-month-free ride8th February 2019 The Federal government says it will flag off the Lagos-Abeokuta railway transport and offer passengers three- months-free-of-charge service. Riding from Iju in Lagos State to Abeokuta in Ogun State to test the service were Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport, Gbenga Ashafa and some members of the National Assembly among others. On ground to receive the party on arrival were Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka; Alake of Egba land, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, other traditional rulers and pockets of crowd that entertained the visitors, singing and dancing. Speaking during the ceremony, Amaechi commended the Abeokuta community for making the execution of the project hitch-free, noting that they were the only ones in Nigeria that did not demand compensation. “This is not a commissioning ceremony. We just decided to put the train on the track to convey passengers for three months free of charge. We are done here and we are grateful that Ogun State government organised this to welcome the third standard gauge in Nigeria. Itakpe-Warri is the first while Abuja-Kaduna is the second. “The first tunnel in Nigeria is in Ogun State. This work is not free of charge, you will have to pay for it and the only way to pay is for you to vote. If you want us to take the project from Ibadan to Kano, then we need your vote. “Vote for APC, that is all we are asking for but this train will run from Saturday free of charge and I will compel them to do about three trips a day so that more persons can go to work in the morning and come back in the evening. “We are also trying to build our stations and in a year’s time, we would have finished the stations and everything will be running normally and then you will be paying your money,” he said, promising to fix some of the issues raised by community members that the rail project passed through. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/fg-flags-off-lagos-abeokuta-train-service-offers-3-month-free-ride/https://i3.wp.com/www.ripplesnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Soyinka-with-the-dignitaries-and-the-train.jpghttps://theeagleonline.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Pic.31.-Test-run-of-Lagos-Ibadan-Railway-Modernization-Project-extension-in-Abeokuta-e1549650336806.jpg |

Barawo bubu and his thieving Amaechi did not even complete the Iju-Abeokuta section but you are telling lies of Lagos Ibadan. Are you okay? Amaechi apologises to Nigerians over suspension of free Iju-Abeokuta train ride
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi on Friday apologised to Nigerians over the suspension of the Iju-Abeokuta free train ride during the 2019 general elections.
Amaechi tendered the apology during the monthly rail inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan modernisation project in Ibadan.
He said that the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) suspended the three months free train ride due to security and safety of passengers.
“It was suspended by the Chinese and the excuse they gave me was that they cannot allow it run because of safety, since they have not completed the second line but they are almost through with it.
“It is almost completed from Iju to Abeokuta. I want to apologise to Nigerians that they suspended it when they left the country, which I didn’t envisage, they will go back soon,” Amechi said.

On 21 May, Nigeria’s Premium Times released the results of a comprehensive investigation that showed the ABP had, in fact, spectacularly failed. An overwhelming majority of farmers had failed to pay back their loans. Another fraction never received the money.
● Apart from complaints about expired herbicide and bad seeds, it turned out that many of the farmers had been selected on the basis of political patronage and the monies were distributed in cash, rather than in bank accounts as stipulated to ensure the contribution of 5% as equity.
● According to a representative of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, “farmers collected loans and they thought it was national cake being distributed to them. There were some local government chairmen in the north that told them that they shouldn’t bother themselves to pay the money because, when they visited their farms, there wasn’t anything to show for the money they got.” It is terrible what is going on with the failures in Aso Rock who use aggressive propaganda and sharing of crumbs to poverty-stricken folks to cover up for their looting and failure. Abi you be runaway like barawo bubu who joined the army on his principal's recommendation instead of writing his final exams? What a chronic dullard! Previous Govts Initiated ‘Most Of The Things This Administration Is Doing’ – Adesina
A majority of the projects the Muhammadu Buhari administration is working on was inherited from previous administrations, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity has said.
Mr Femi Adesina said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s special Independence anniversary programme on Sunday.
“Most of the things this administration is doing – 60 to 70 percent of them – were initiated by previous governments,” he said.
“That shows you that in the past a government will come and say ‘this is not our project’ And it will discard what was being done and start fresh ones.”
As a result, Mr Adesina said there are many half and quarter-completed abandoned projects. But rather than abandon the project, he explained that the current administration will complete it.
An example is the Abuja-Kaduna rail project which the Presidential aide said was up to maybe 60 to 70 percent complete when the last administration left.

What kind of backward, corrupt and warped logic is that? Looks like you also need some education about federal allocation formula which gives states 43% (including the 20% for LGAs that they hijack) and only 53% to the federal government. You should also know that the price of oil started dropping in 2012 hence the 36 state governors were putting pressure to cushion the effect with ECA draw downs since we all rejected their subsidy removal, which the dullard has now implemented. https://nrgedge.s3.amazonaws.com/article/1483577980.pngwww.nairaland.com/attachments/2578022_iweala_jpeg0858fd35c7757170d8155dae6623e1c2FG, States, LGs Share N568.4 Billion for Oct 15 NOVEMBER 2013
Also, $1billion was proposed for distribution to complement shortfall in expected revenue." The $1billion is a compromise by the FG over its words in September not to augment shortfalls anymore.
Responding to the presentation, the chairman of the States Commissioners of Finance and Ebonyi State Commissioner of Finance, Mr Timothy Odaah, lamented that the statutory allocation was getting smaller and smaller. "It appears this is the worst in terms of returns. This is the least in allocations as far as this year is concerned. We are mourning the dearth of funds and this is a wakeup call for states and local governments to buoy up their internally generated revenue."
While appreciating the "magnanimity" of President Goodluck Jonathan to approve the $1billion from the excess crude account and to be shared among the federal, state and local governments, Odaah expressed disappointment with the returns made by the NNPC.
He said that the states had requested for $2bn to complement for the shortfall in revenue but got only $1billion. In September, Odaah and fellow commissioners had walked out of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) when the federal government said that the framework of the 2013 budget was no longer realistic and it won't augment shortfall in revenue. Odaah raised issues with the statutory allocations of previous months.

Buckubuck: God bless you for this. Don't mind the idiotic APC rats. They enjoy turning facts on its head forgetting we all live in this country together. Imagine saying APC is better than PDP. If you say they're the same, I have no arguments with you. But to say APC is better is a stupid lie even APC themselves know. Nigeria has performed worse on every indices of development since APC came to power!! That is why they need the lies and propaganda to cover up their looting and performance failures. Since 1999, that is what Tinubu and APC have always done. Samples below on this topic. kodded: The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has stated that he never knew that the railways means of transportation still existed in Nigeria.
Amaechi made this remark on Tuesday when he and other officials of the ministry toured facilities of the Nigeria Railways Corporation, NRC, in Lagos.
He disclosed the intention of the Federal Government to concentrate on building standard gauge railway lines that would be beneficial to the country’s status as a developing economy.
His words: “In fact, I think we have a problem; most people don’t believe that the railway transport is functioning in Nigeria. I didn’t even know, until I started this tour, I never knew that the railway was functioning, it was even from his (MD’s) speech that I learnt that there are some coaches or services that go to Kano or Port Harcourt or elsewhere.
“The federal government will concentrate on standard gauge of the railways, because it is critical that Nigeria becomes one of the countries founded on standard gauge. The only time I had seen railways (trains) or the coaches was one or two days in Lagos, and I thought it started from the beginning of Lagos to the end of Lagos.
“So we need to make people become more aware that the narrow gauge is working, and that people can still use it to travel around that country. There was a joke somebody told me that it takes three days to reach Kano from Lagos on the narrow gauge, and when I asked the managing director of NRC, he said no, it takes one and half days; I said: ‘what’s the difference between three days and one and a half days?’ So that is why the government has to re-emphasize on the need for the construction of the standard gauge to help boost the economy,” the minister stated.

Image123: Rubbish, it is just six months. Too early to say all this rubbish, especially against the background that GEJ left Nigeria in SHAMBLES as at May 29, 2015. 1. There is a level of continuity in government, nobody says any government does not do ANYTHING good. The question is, did they do ENOUGH, especially with the resources available. Am sure you do not want good things to be scrapped/cancelled for ntothing. 2. GEJ government scammed the country with the very huge subsidy they agreed to pay. We are still paying their debts and renegotiations have to be legally done, which is ongoing. Subsidy has always been since the 80s, it is the figures in the past 5years that have been unbelievable. 3. The Professor has a right to freedom of speech, he is not the President, and the President's mandate is 4years AT LEAST, not 6 months. Within that six months, we have bought fuel nationwide for 87naira/litre for at least 3 of the months, this was a feat that was a mirage and rocket science under GEJ. 4. Who are thise who claimed GEJ went to Chad to plan attacks who visited Chad? 5. The past government agricultural policies yielded little overhyped dividends. Nigeria is not close to feeding itself talkless of exporting as should be the touted case. Our people still have vested interest in buying foreign agricultural things compared to local so what is the jubilation about? 6. WHo has dumped TSA? TSA is not GEJ or NOI's invention, it is from IMF. NOI introduced it but never implemented it. Buhari made sure it was implemented in less than 6months. He's tried to make refineries work in short time too but that one backfired, but at least he tried. If it worked, you will claim it is GEJ's achievement. 7. \Your talk about bboko haram reclaiming LGAs is a blatant lie conjured from your pocket. 8. Your lie about the Presidential fleet shows your irredeemable ignorance, i would not help you further, at least not now. plaindealer: Stop wasting your time, I don't consume or subscribe to what your kind peddle on the internet because it's rubbish and assault on our intelligence.
You are free to call the folks and the party that accumulated the largest revenue in Nigeria's history and still achieved nothing after 16 years in office your hero and saviour, but you can not convince me that the current administration and the folks that started and completed a major rail project in less than 3 years are worse than the party and the people that did not complete any rail project and even abandoned the now completed Warri Itakpe rail project for 30 years.
We don't have to go back and forth, hail and praise your incompetent and underachieving heroes all you want, just keep it to yourself. You need some education, which I can give for free. KPMG: Nigeria’s high speed rail is ‘world-class’ December 18,2014
Nigeria’s high speed rail project initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan has been rated among the global top 100 world-class infrastructure projects by KPMG.
The rail will connect Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Warri, Bauchi, Abuja, and Port Harcourt and will cost the country $13 billion, much of which will be financed with a loan from the Export Import Bank of China.
The China Railway Construction Corporation has secured the contract to build the 3,218-kilometre network, which will be digitally operated using fibre-optic cables, radio communication and wireless services.
The project is designed to cover 54 stations and will take 25 years to build.
https://www.thecable.ng/kpmg-nigerias-high-speed-rail-world-class debossng: The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Tuesday commended the immediate past administration of ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan for embarking on massive projects that have been beneficial to Nigerians.
Speaking at a Town Hall meeting in Abuja, the former Rivers State governor said his Ministry did not meet any comatose project on assumption of office.
He said the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration continued the projects of the previous administration because “We realised the impact of the recession.’’ Amaechi noted that the Kaduna-Abuja railway was nearly 80% completed by the Jonathan’s administration.
He said, “In the ministry of transportation, we did not meet anything comatose. We met an attempt to bring back our rail services.
“The Kaduna-Abuja railway was nearly 80% completed which we commissioned and commercial services have commenced.’’

Buckubuck: Give it to the govt how? There's been so much noise and hype about this Ibadan-Lag rail which was not experienced when the previous govt was building Abj-Kaduna rail. I don't see any particularly outstanding thing done abt the rail other than the noise being generated The previous government and PDP generally don't understand about mass communication, media management and propaganda. Something that APC does so well even though they are actually doing much less than PDP but stealing more money. |

jesmond3945: they have succeeded to brainwash your mind against your people it is a pity. What of the thousands of foreigners looking to reap where they didnt sow in africa? Look at our oil industry messed up by these same white people. Do you have an oil industry? How do you know that you have oil without the knowledge of the white people The chinese destroying our manufacturing in collusion with our leaders who they installed by proxy. Why don't Nigerians install Chinese leaders too by proxy? Who is stopping us from doing that Let Nigerians lead a revolution to topple bad regime and you would see the Western powers quashing the revolution and reinstalling their puppet. Look at what happened in Gabon. Even look at the meddling of western powers in the middle east. Now they are trying to find a reason to attack iran and of course you would know the humanitarian consequences. The Migrant crisis is a consequence of western meddling in the affairs of other nations. Even in venezuela it is the same thing, are they not white people too. Change your thinking. You are just blaming people who are equally endowed as you for your laziness to use your God given capacities to dominate your own environment plus plus. All that you said about western powers are what empires/colonialists do, including those old African empires like Songhai, Oyo, Benin etc. I hope you understand the drill now |

jesmond3945: Nope it is not. There are more hungry people in europe than in Africa. These europeans come to africa, snap few hungry people, go back to their country and collect pounds and dollars. Some are used while some end in private pockets. You truly have a huge sense of humour. Is that why you have thousands of Europeans risking their lives in the Mediterranean Sea, Libya and the Sahara desert just to get into Africa where there is surplus food and jobs liljboy: It’s okay to marry a woman old enough to be your mother, you can still explain that as love, but someone old enough to be your grandmother?
www.nairaland.com/attachments/4914275_df_jpeg373e55dea7e43f08e80004f94f67a4a7 todaynewsreview: The bodies of at least 74 migrants have been washed ashore in western Libya, in the latest tragedy along the dangerous trafficking route to Europe. The Libyan Red Crescent posted photos of dozens of bodies in black and white bags lined up along the shore near the western city of Zawiya. A spokesman for the aid organisation said there were still bodies floating out at sea as the agency had no way of retrieving them. He said the migrants were all adults, mostly from sub-Saharan African countries, and all but three were men. The UN migration agency, the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), said the dinghy had set off on Saturday with 110 people on board. The agency said traffickers deliberately took the engines from the boat and then abandoned it to drift.

martineverest: true..but don't forget NNPC has never remitted their earnings until recently You should learn how to tell lies with some small intelligence at least, like Lai Mohammed. If the NNPC has never remitted their earnings what has been shared by the FAAC monthly meetings to the local governments, states and federal governments Please go back to your school of propaganda for a refresher course. FAAC REPORT – Revenue allocation to states and LGA for November 2013, shared in December 2013
The three tiers of government in the country [Federal, State, and Local Councils] enjoyed an expanded take-home income from the Federal Account Allocation Committee [FAAC] in the month on November. The FAAC says it shared N675.650 billion between the Federal, States and Local governments, and that this sum includes value added tax (VAT) of N91.73 billion.
The gross revenue for November 2013, confirms that there was an increase of N25.384 billion when compared to the October figures.
A breakdown of the distribution indicated that the Federal government received N252.2 billion (52.68%), while the State received N127.939 billion (26.7%) and the Local government received N98.64 billion (20.6%). Furthermore, a total of N56.390 billion representing 13% derivation revenue was shared among the oil producing states. (This is demonstrated clearly in the table below).
The allocation includes the distribution of N7.617 billion refunded by the NNPC. Also, the sum of N35.549 billion is offered for allocation under the SURE-P Programme.
Mineral revenue for the month was N490.765 billion, while N56.998 billion was transferred to the Excess Crude Account (ECA), Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) and the Oil Royalty account. Thus total fund in the ECA as at November 2013 was $3.18 billion.

Can it be the petroleum minister, barawo Bubu and his cabal For The Fourth Time Running, FAAC Meeting On NNPC Remittance Hits Brick Wall JUL 11, 2018
The subject of contention is the perceived shortfall in remittance from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The corporation is said to have stalled the sharing of revenue for May and June. However, in a statement released by its Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndu Oghamadu, in June, NNPC said it paid N35billion more than the N112 billion monthly remittance it had agreed with the governors.

Toks2008: Exactly my point... so i guess Nigerians should continue to pay over 60k for a visa fee and continue to attend a gambling process in the name of an interview and when refused, there will be no right of appeal.
This is a reflection of who we are as a country and the way America sees other countries so let the gamble continues. Does anyone force Nigerians to partake in the "gamble" Who could be this person forcing Nigerians? Do you know? |
