MrMou: You & Bloomberg are talking trash! Why 2014? Why didn't they compare the data right before Ebelemi handed over which is May 2015 to where he met it in 2011 & where it is now? They won't cuz they know GDP growth was left at just 2.35% in May 2015 as against the 7.68 that Ebelemi met it They won't tell you because just before hand over in May 2015, FDI & foreign reserves were plunged (they're higher now than where Buhari met it). Why didn't they also tell you what oil prices (which your economy is practically based on) was from 2011 to 2015 & that it plunged to just $29/barrel within Buhari first 6 months?
Plunged because they knew an incompetent barawo was taking over. Was it not because your Bubu knew about the plunging oil prices since 2013 that made him promise to fix oil prices Blames, blames and blames instead of doing what he was employed, by Nigerian voters, to do. Which kain integrity person dey do that?
Collynzo9: Among all the clueless diatribe he spewed in his interview with Channels TV, this one caught my attention most.
Channels Presenter: How do you intend to manage the economy in the face of dwindling oil price.
Buhari: first we will stabilize the oil market and run an accountable govt.
Follygunners: There's a political motive behind this...
Just imagine how the house be like hotel conference room.. E no go better for dis guy...
Will it be better for the guy who multiplied Aso Rock chop money after pretending to be poor and fighting for the masses by chanting change mantra upandan like a colo person
Firefire: ‘A budget that moves domestic spending in Aso Villa from N580m to N1.7bn cannot be a budget of change’
Abuja – Sen. Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South) on Wednesday in Abuja, berated the 2016 budget and called on President Muhammaduu Buhari to withdraw it and go back to the drawing board.
Abaribe while making contributions during the consideration of the budget, said the proposal was faulty on many grounds and could not be implemented at it was.
He said that predication of oil benchmark at 38 dollars per barrel when the crude oil price had fallen below 30 dollars per barrel made the budget unrealistic.
Abaribe faulted the government for increasing spending by 30 per cent based on borrowing.
“Mr President, my colleagues, this budget is indeed unique. After the budget presentation, the finance minister has never come to explain the details of the budget as it is normally done.
“It is a budget of change I agree, but it is a change in the wrong direction. I say it is a change in the wrong direction because it says that it is based on zero budgeting requiring all expenses to be fully justified.
“Mr President, a budget that increases spending up to 30 per cent based solely on borrowing, in what way are we justified? That is the question we want to ask the people who brought this budget.
“We know what is going on in the global economy: this budget is predicated on an oil benchmark of 38 dollars per barrel and I can now say that with oil being 28 dollars today, this budget is dead on arrival.
“The job of the opposition is to help the government to get its priorities right, so I want to please urge this government to withdraw this budget and go back to the drawing board,” he said.
The senator also faulted the adjustments made in the budget as well as allocation for spending in the Aso Rock Villa, saying that it was too exorbitant.
He said that the adjustments rather than reduce spending in areas where they were not necessary only spread it into different offices. “Mr President, a budget that moves domestic spending within Aso Villa from N580 million to N1.7 billion cannot be a budget of change.
“We were told that in the revised budget there was an adjustment due to error, we agree but what has happened is that up to N7 billion were moved from buying vehicles and spread to offices.
“It also increased the spending that is due to renovations within the Villa.
“They are going to renovate the Villa with N3.9 billion: what else do you want to renovate there that Nigerians will see in the Year 2016?” he asked.
However, in his contribution, Sen. Ahmed Lawan (APC Yobe North) blamed the previous administration for the lack of funds due to the embezzlement witnessed in previous governments.
He said that this was the 17th budget he would be debating as a legislator and noted that not more than 40 per cent implementation was achieved in the last 16 years.
“The proposal before us is the first budget where the executive has deemed it necessary to give ordinary Nigerians genuine hope.
“N500 billion allocated for school feeding and social SAFTEY NET is commendable.
“It is time to say oil should not continue to play dominant role as we have suffered economically and politically: it is time to diversify this economy.
“The direction of the executive is the way to go. `That is, we should make every effort to have the real sector-agric mining and manufacturing.
“The budget deserves the support of everyone, including my colleagues on the other side. When we were in the opposition we supported the PDP, they should support us,” he said.
FactBoyz: The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said politicians’ sins are forgiven when they join the ruling party.
Oshiomhole made this statement on Thursday, while welcoming new members to the party, at the APC presidential campaign in Benin.
As he reeled out names of those who have defected from the PDP to the APC, he said: “I am told that there are a lot of very very senior people from PDP who have decided to join forces with President Buhari to take the broom to sweep away PDP and to continue to ensure that APC continues to preside all over Nigeria.
“It includes my own brother, my friend who comes from my own clime, Henry Duke Genebe. He is the former organising secretary of PDP and we also have former vice chairman PDP and leader of Edo North of PDP. We also have my brother Chief Esheshi Godwin. He is also former council chairman and my very dear friend. We have quite a number of other leaders who have come.
“We have quite a number of other leaders who have come… in fact, once you have joined APC, all your sins are forgiven.”
cooltola: Agberos make a small percent of population. Every society in the world have their agberos . Nigerians are naturally book smart, our schools are good. Many Nigerians thrive to get an education even school need light to operate. Constant Electricity will brings many industries to Nigeria which will create jobs and reduce unemployment.
I have not said that we don't need constant electricity. I have only said that the electricity is useless without education that creates a pool of differently skilled labour for the many industries. Concerning book smart and good schools, suffice to say that self deception is the greatest sin according to some people. Is Nigeria not the leader in the number of children out of school? Are many Nigerian schools not dilapidated with inadequate school monitors, teachers, librarians, laboratory attendants, field trips, adventures etc?
MathsChic: Some days ago, I was at a secondary school in Surulere (across the bridge from the Island) in Lagos for a friend's event where he is educating secondary students about the perils of peer pressure. I honestly wasn't expecting what I saw as the state of this secondary school. It left me wondering if this was a school or a dump yard. Why in heaven's name are Nigerian leaders looking the other way while the young ones study in this sorry environment?
The attached pictures are what I saw. This is no secondary school. It's a hopeless shanty. I hope this gets to front page and attracts the necessary attention.
At a time when knowledge acquisition in other climes is getting increasingly sophisticated, the same cannot be said to be the case in most parts of the country.
While the much-touted leaders of tomorrow in some states attend classes in ad-hoc environments including under trees, unsafe environment and sundry locations, Lagos State, many say should never be found in the company of such needy states.
But that is not the case. As a matter of fact, students in some schools in the state are taught while sitting on bare floors, while classrooms in some schools across the state are without roof, sundry fittings and devoid of requisite learning aides
Oshodi Nursery and Primary School, Oshodi, which has been in deplorable condition for a very long time is a classic example of this sad story.Located only a few kilometres away from Bolade Bus Stop, along Oshodi/Agege Motor Road, the school, which has up to four buildings within the premises, sees pupils scampering for safety anytime it rains, even as the learning process also has to be halted at such times. This explains why parents and concerned residents of the area are urging the state government to come to their aid, by rehabilitating the school, and providing an enabling environment for the pupils to learn, in consonant with their rights to attend school in conducive environments.
The pathetic condition of the school first attracted the attention of The Guardian Newspaper, which carried a report to that effect in The Guardian on Sunday edition of February 7th, 2016. Ever since that publication, nothing has been done to improve the fortunes of the school.
This gross neglect suffered by the school, has provided a leeway for miscreants in the area to sneak in for regular Indian Hemp smoking sessions. They sometimes defecate in the open classrooms, thereby compounding an already bad situation.
When The Guardian visited the school last week, over 20 classrooms are without roof, just as empty plastic bottles and empty sachets of water jostled for space.
Some of the residents who spoke to The Guardian said they have on several occasions written letters informing the state government about deplorable state of the school, and the need to rehabilitate it, but without any positive response.
They said because of the ugly condition of the school, most of them had to relocate their children to other schools, adding that only indigent students still attend the school.
One of the residents Mr. Edwin Mathew, said parents of the pupils have raised the issue of renovation on several occasions with the school management during Parents Teacher Association (PTA) meeting, but nobody is saying anything about it.
Mathew said: “This school has been in this form for a very long time and nobody is saying anything about it. We have written letters to government but there have been no responses. We feel government has forgotten this school, and some parents have taken their children to private schools. Only a few parents still bring their children to this school because the school has been abandoned.
“I want to use this opportunity to beg the state government to come to our aid because our children are our investment so, we would not like to play with their future.”
A parent, Mrs. Kafayat Dada, said she personally wrote several letters, but when nobody responded, she visited the Ministry of Education in Alausa to inform them of condition of the school, but nothing has been done till date.
Dada said: “I have been to places to find out why the school has been abandoned, along with other parents because we suspected that government must have awarded contract for the rehabilitation of the school buildings. We found out that the contract has not been awarded, but I want to use this opportunity to ask Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to come and rehabilitate the school for our children. We are not happy with the terrible condition of the school because it is an eyesore. Our children have right to school in a conducive environment like other children in the state.”
Secretary, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board Oshodi/Isolo Local Council, Lekan Alausa Adekoya, explained that it was rainstorm that removed the roofs of the buildings in September 2014, and ever since the school management has written several letters to the state government, through the State Primary Education Board (SPEB), to rehabilitate the school, but nothing has been done.
He called on the state government to take the school building as a priority project, and rehabilitate it. He said: “As you can see, it is an eyesore and we do not like the situation. I feel one day it would be the turn of the school to be renovated because I believe government has not forgotten the school.
“One non-governmental organisation promised that it would rehabilitate the school for us in 2016, but because of the economic recession, the group apologised it would no longer happen. It is a project that would take millions of naira, so, there is nothing we can do on our own other than to write letters to government, which we did on several occasions. I know very soon by God’s grace something would be done because it is a public school and the children have right to stay and learn in a conducive environment. “We try our best to see that the situation of the school does not affect the learning process. We thank God that we are in dry season because whenever it rains, the learning process is affected because of the open roof.
“Government should intervene in this matter. I know that government has other projects to handle, but it should make this school a priority project.”
Responding to the use of the school by miscreants and hoodlums for binging, he said, “We have arrested some of them before with the help of the police. We discovered that it was some children of some landlords in the area, including some tenants and traders in Oshodi market that litter the school environment.”
texazzpete: You realize this is moving goalposts at this point?
But just so we're clear on your stance in this matter, you're in support of the point of view that 'yahoo' crooks are being unfairly persecuted by the EFCC?
Kalapizim: Very unfortunate comment from the head of the Army.
He is saying what they did during Jonathan's era.
Buhari faults crackdown on Boko Haram JUNE 3, 2013
Presidential candidate for the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 Presidential election, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has frowned on the emergency rule in parts of the North. He alleged that innocent civilians were being killed in the states.
Buhari speaking during a Liberty FM Hausa Service Programme, Guest of the Week, on Sunday in Kaduna said that Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished unlike the “special treatment” given to the Niger Delta militants by the Federal Government.
cooltola: fix the electricity and watch how the economy will pick up. This is beyond PDP or APC, How can a country be in the 21st century continue to operate with poor electricity output and expect to do well economically?
Fix electricity without fixing education, our country will still be a shit hole. What is electricity to agberos, touts, area boys and almajiris? How will these uneducated, unskilled group help impove productive even with electricity available
9jaRealist: Do you live in Lagos? Don't you see the civil works, the rail line, the elevated tracks along the Marina, and the Lagoon Bridge currently being built?
I see them. I also see how many trillions have been stolen since 1999 by Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode for the light rail and other shine shine projects.
The All Progressives Congress, Lagos State Chapter, has said the Lagos State Government has quit the Sunborn Yacht Hotel. The party said it was a bad business and the government had abandoned the deal.
The controversial yacht, valued at about N8bn, is an inshore boat hotel.
The state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party had recently accused the state government of corruption. It challenged the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, to speak out on the whereabouts of the yacht and the two helicopters bought by his administration for security surveillance of the state.
The state Chairman, PDP, Mr. Tunji Shelle, while addressing party faithful during the General Assembly of the chapter, had said, “After floating miserably on the Marina water for so long, the controversial Sunburn Yacht, which cost the Lagos State Government, under (former Governor) Bola Tinubu, a whooping N8bn suddenly disappeared, only to be sighted at Thames in England.
“Now, the question is: who orchestrated this 419 and who were the beneficiaries of this waste of public fund. This is certainly a fraud and (Governor Babatunde) Fashola must tell us something he knows about this fraud, failure which he remains an accessory after the fact in the fraud.”
While reacting in an online interview with our correspondent on Saturday, the state Interim Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said the state government took a bad business decision on the yacht and had done away with it.
BudgIT charges Lagos State Government to Comply with FOI Act, demands the cost of the Ikeja Bus Terminal.
BudgIT Nigeria, a civic tech organisation, working on fiscal transparency demands the Lagos State Government respond to its numerous letters supported by the Freedom of Information Act. Following the judgement on the Ondo State Appeal Court by Hon. Justice Ridwan Maiwada Abdullahi, JCA which compels state governments to respect the Freedom of Information Act 2011, BudgIT sent a Freedom of Information requests for details of the Ikeja Bus Terminal and Details of the Contracts Awarded by the Lagos State Government between May 2015 to May 2018 to the Honourable Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure for Lagos state, Mr Ade Akinsanya on May 3rd, 2018 asking for the details of the cost for the public projects execution of the Ikeja Bus Terminal.
The Court of Appeal, Akure Division on March 27, 2018, ruled that the requests for public information under the Freedom of Information Act, are made in public interest and should be honoured by all states in Nigeria. The bus terminal which was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari on March 29, 2018, was stated to be a world-class infrastructure that will cater to 4 million Lagosians per day. BudgIT understands the project is now completed and demands that the cost of the project should be made public.
However, Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Mr Akinsanya is yet to respond to the request and has thereby flouted the provision of the FOI Act Section (4) which mandates a public institution to respond to a request within seven days. Also, In the advent that the public institution feels the information should be denied, Section 4(b) provides that the public institution gives a written notice, stating reasons for the denial, and the section of the FOI Act under which the denial is made. The Lagos State Ministry of Works and infrastructure has refused to provide neither the information to the request nor a response for refusal there utterly disregarding the FOI Act.
Following the lack of response from Ministry of Works and infrastructure, BudgIT sent a reminder on the subject to the Ministry and distributed copies to the offices of the Executive Governor, Deputy Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner for information and Strategy and the Office of Civic Engagement. The letter dated May 31st, 2018 reiterated the requests made by the organisation on the cost of executing the Ikeja Bus Terminal.
In addition to the request on details of Ikeja Bus Terminal, on May 31, 2018, BudgIT submitted another FOI request for the details of contracts awarded between May 2015 and May 2018. The FOI request sought for comprehensive information on projects executed and completed with information on the financials for each project within the current period. Copies of the letters were also sent to the offices of the Executive Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner for Information and Strategy and the Office of Civic Engagement.
With the ruling on FOI application to states, BudgIT urges the Lagos State Government to disregard its former opaque and non-transparent ways around government expenditure and project execution and embrace openness. BudgIT’s Oluseun Onigbinde says “It is imperative that the Lagos State Government which generates the highest revenue in Nigeria at almost N40bn monthly becomes accountable to its tax-paying citizens.”
BudgIT is committed to getting information on public funds utilisation and helping government become accountable to those it governs. Despite being an entity mainly funded by taxpayers, Lagos State Government shrouds the information on procurement, and capital projects cost in secrecy further eroding good governance traits in the state. The Organisation wishes to state that the lack of transparency breeds corruption and there is no room for opacity in the fight against corruption. Therefore, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies with mandates to change current government status quo to a more reformed one must ensure that its books are open to the public.
If I am not mistaken the Eko Project is the $90 million loan from the World Bank that Fashola did not want to disclose how it was spent because "FoI does not apply to Lagos state"
Ebullience: The defence headquarters on Tuesday dissociated the armed forces of Nigeria from the circulation of document, calling for the overthrow of the democratically elected government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement issued by Muhammed Wabi, deputy director of defence information, the DHQ accused a group, “Nigerian Continuity and Progress’’ as being behind the document. . . . Wabi said all relevant law enforcement agencies had been advised to unravel those behind the “seditious” document for appropriate actions.
kingkakaone: You brought up something of 2007 which is different from the year I gave you. Ibori case is 2010, I was at oghara then. You may not believe but it won't change the fact that Jonathan had a personal beef with Ibori which made him to protected by oghara youths.
I don't remember saying that Jonathan had a beef or no beef with Ibori. Please go through our discussion again.
madridsta007: Some foolish Nigerians, with the aid of Obama and the British, replaced eminently qualified people with donkeys and illiterates.... And are expecting a performance close to what those eminently qualified people did. That would be magic. And magic is not real.
Are you a Nigerian or from Spain? Why are you so smart?
kingkakaone: First of all I corrected myself by using the word army instead of DSS to someone who needed clarification. Secondly, Ibori was chased up and down over the country before he left for Dubai and later taken to London. Do u know that in 2010 his security men were removed and he was being guarded by oghara youths? I was at otefe then to see how he was almost manhandled if not for the boys who intervened.
Finally, bring your facts to debunk those things I said instead of trying to cover for a politician that doesn't care about the masses. Jonathan played on the intelligence of most naive folks just like other politicians, his only difference is that he's pretending to be a friend. No politician in this country care about anybody. I only quoted the guy to drop those things just to shit him up for thinking Jonathan cared about him or anyone else.
And you are defending Tinubu and Ibori with lies because they care about you and the masses Please note that not everyone has a short memory.
Where Are The Soldiers? Photo Of Tinubu's Home Shows No Soldiers
Reports surfaced yesterday from the All Progressives Congress camp that armed soldiers were positioned at the gate of Bola Tinubu's home. Well a journalist, Ben Ezeamalu, took a picture of the former Lagos governor's home and shared the picture on his Twitter handle.
Contrary to the statement by Tinubu's media aide, Sunday Dare, there were no soldiers in or around the area. Nigerians have called this out as one of the APC 's alleged lies. Reactions have trailed the news, with forum goers saying: "We ask for pictures but none was provided. Propaganda everywhere."
One member wrote: "APC and their supporters thrive of lies and propaganda. Unfortunately, many have been brainwashed with their silly "change", while they can't even explain to Nigerians how they want to come abt the so-called "change"
Another Anonymous user wrote: "But this is not between 10pm and 11pm. When I read d report I read the armies always arrived between these time frames. Maybe d photographer should also camp there till maybe 2am."

madridsta007: Nigerians replaced or rather, changed this impressive young man, now the ADB president with Audu Ogbeh, BA French (1972) and are wondering why he and the Agricultural Ministry is clueless.
Oh Nigerians what did they bewitch you guys with?
Just as we changed World Bank economist for certificate forger Kemi Adeosun who wrecked our economy and looted our treasury with her illiterate boss of no certificate.
naijapips04: The Nigerian presidency on Tuesday said that the case of the alleged certificate forgery of the Honourable Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun was not a corruption matter.
Mrs Adeosun was alleged to have forged a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate after an investigation by an online newspaper, Premium Times.
Professor Itse Sagay, chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) had said the minister should not be sacked because ‘she’s damn good’. He further claimed it is irrelevant if she didn’t do the mandatory youth service.
Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesman on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, stated that the case was not a corruption matter. He further noted that Professor Irtse Sagay’s comments were his personal opinion and not the stance of the President.
‘It was a personal comment, that is not the position of the Government and Professor Sagay has a right to his opinion.
“It will not be down the aisle of Professor Sagay to advise on that matter because it is not a corruption matter so to speak.”
Section 13 of the NYSC law prescribes punishment for anyone who absconds from the scheme or forges its certificates, while eligible Nigerians who skipped the service are liable to be sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and/or N2, 000 fine.
Section 13 (3) of the law also prescribes three-year jail term or option of N5, 000 fine for anyone who contravenes the provision of the law as is alleged Mrs Adeosun has done.
Subsection 4 of the same section also criminalises giving false information or illegally obtaining the agency’s certificate. It provides for up to a three-year jail term for such offenders.
Sources have claimed that the Presidency could be considering granting the minister clemency for the forgery case ‘in view of the great works she has done for government — bailing out the country from recession and stabilizing the economy.’
However legal practitioners have countered that, saying only after a conviction can anyone be granted a pardon.
Flets: Nigeria's president has warned his fellow citizens to stop trying to make asylum claims in Britain, saying that their reputation for criminality has made it hard for them to be "accepted" abroad.
Muhammadu Buhari, the tough ex-general elected last year, said those who had joined the migrant exodus to Europe were doing so purely for economic reasons rather than because they were in danger.
He added that because of the number of Nigerians imprisoned for law-breaking in Britain and elsewhere, they were also unlikely to get much sympathy.
"We have an image problem abroad and we are on our way to salvage that"
"Some Nigerians claim is that life is too difficult back home, but they have also made it difficult for Europeans and Americans to accept them because of the number of Nigerians in prisons all over the world accused of drug trafficking or human trafficking," he told The Telegraph.
"I don't think Nigerians have anybody to blame. They can remain at home, where their services are required to rebuild the country."
Mr Buhari's remarks may upset refugees' rights groups, who claim that the vast majority of asylum cases lodged by Nigerians are genuine. In recent years, many have said they are fleeing Boko Haram, the Islamist group that Mr Buhari's army is now struggling to stamp out in northern Nigeria.
However, only around one in ten of the 13,000 asylum claims lodged by Nigerians in Britain in the last 15 years have been accepted.
And the claims of persecution appear to cut no ice at all with Mr Buhari, a headmasterly figure who famously waged a "war on indiscipline" on his fellow Nigerians while serving as the country's military ruler in the 1980s.
Back then, Nigerians could be whipped if they did not stand in line at bus queues, while lazy civil servants were forced to do frog jumps in the office if they arrived for work late.
While he has not re-introduced such measures as a civilian ruler, he makes it clear that a minority of his countrymen could still do with improving their behaviour. "We have an image problem abroad and we are on our way to salvage that," he said.
