LagosismyHome: If you are a dual citizen and for example your british passport is valid and nigeria is expired you can travel legally ....but in naija they can harass you so you have to quote the law to them
But if you have only one passport that has expired... you wont even be allowed to check in at the airport. You cannot travel on an expired passport with one passport. you definitely need an ETC.
I learnt this last week when the airline refused to fly MIL due to expired passport. Even excuse of covid it wasnt allowed Really? They refused her? Hmm, two of my friends said that they’ve travelled to Nigeria with an expired Nigerian passport (They have no other passports). Besides what I read online said that the airline allows it based on their discretion. If it’s hard to get a passport renewed at the embassy, an ETC may be harder to get; I’m just tired. |

deept: Can someone travel with an expired passport? You will need an emergency travel certificate to travel with an expired passport and you will need to get that at the Embassy. Correct me if in wrong. You’re correct. But the airline can let me return to my home country with an expired passport, at their discretion. I plan on testing that discretion . |

EmmyKing86: Good morning everyone.
Trust all is keeping safe.
Still about passport renewal at the Nigerian High Commission London. I applied for passport renewal on the 24th of August. On one hand, information on the website says backlog of applications fron March to August will be dealt with. While on the other hand, renewal will be strictly on appointment.
Since my application (and payment), I have not gotten any appointment date via text or email as promised on the website and I am thinking on going to London next week since covid cases have started to increase and want to avoid any possible lockdown situation.
Please, I want to know if anyone is in the same predicament or have recently collected a new passport.
Kind Regards. You even still have hope on the embassy? I’ve given up on waiting for them to invite me for my biometrics. I’ll travel with my expired passport to renew in Nigeria. I applied Aug 4th and haven’t heard from them, if you have no immediate use for a renewed passport, just be patient. |

excelchips: Hello my people, Kindly assist to clarify my issue. will schooling in any of the Russel group of schools would give a brighter chance of getting job after schooling. I have applied for an MSc in 2 UK universities though I'm still expecting their feedback but I'm being tempted to apply to Queen University Belfast being a member of Russel group of schools. However, the course fees are on the high side compared to others 2 but I'm now confused on the next step if the higher fees could justify it at the end. Though, I'm always ready for any challenge wherever I find myself but skeptical on what the future hold as regard getting job within 2 years allotted time for Post Study Work Visa.
Thank you. Hahahaha me that sometimes shame used to catch me that I did masters when all my colleagues and managers just graduated from high school UK is not like naija o, 80% of small-medium businesses don’t care about your degree, sometimes, you having a degree will make your boss hate you sef. So this is your personal decision; if you want to go to a top tier uni for your own self-gratification, cool. Otherwise, don’t stress yourself too much. The only time going to such unis pay off, is if you land a job in major companies like the big 4s, MS, Facebook, intl companies, etc. |

br33zee: Hi guys, i'm just joining the thread and i suppose some members here live in the UK. Please im in a dilenma right now. I need advice:
I'm getting married to my fiance soon and of course interested to leave with her. She's a nurse....processing her papers to migrate to the UK.
I, on the other hand, mechanical engineer but since graduation, I've been in the tech space...dealing with digital marketing projects, wordpress (website) and graphic design projects. Eventually, developed two startups. One is a digital marketing startup. The other is a partnership. Also, I'm currently rounding up my online masters with University of South Wales btw You don’t lose anything if you move with her to the UK and experience UK yourself. Canada will not reject your student application cos you now live in UK. Be your own judge on whether UK is better for you or not, rather than rely on other people’s opinion, especially as you have the opportunity to experience both sides. If you stay for a bit in the UK and don’t like it, move to Canada. I hate it here, so I’m just counting the days until I get my brit passport, then I will pack my bag and move to Canada. If I move to Canada and don’t like it there, I will pack my bags and and easily return to UK. Simple. Another angle for you; coming to the UK will give you the opportunity to save enough money that you’ll need for your tuition, so you don’t become a burden on your wife. I’ve written my answer with the assumption that your wife is cool with overseas marriage. |

Monmarri: G.morning lovely house, trust u all are doing well.
Please I will like an advice from you guys please. My elder sister is working as a secretary/ executive assistant in a reputable organisation in Abuja. She loves her career line very well and have bin in it for 12 years now. She got married in 2014, her hubby is based in UK and she will be joining her hubby soon in UK. She was discussing with me on her career, that she doesn't know if she can get a secretary work in the UK. I told her that she should change her career line to health sector bc I know that she can easily get job in health sector, but she said that her age(41years) might not permit her study nursing when she gets her permanent stay bc of the study loan. There’s this saying that I really like. “If you think that when you graduate in 5 years, you’ll be 5 years older, guess what? You’ll still be 5 years older. The difference is whether you’ll be 5 years older with a degree or not” I didn’t say it very well, but I hope you understand that people should stop letting age hold them back. Regardless of what I said above, she doesn’t need to study nursing if she wants to go into the health sector. Nothing wrong with her being a carer. Personally, I’ll advice that she goes into project management, recruitment or customer service. She can decide to still be a secretary or office assistant. her transferable skills from her previous experience is better suited to these fields. All she has to do is look for jobs on indeed that suit her, and apply. |

@lamakinde hope you’re ok. Wanted to confirm something. Who is meant to show bank statements and salary threshold of more than £19k, me (the applicant) or my husband (the sponsor).
I’m confused because when I did my first application, it was my sponsor that had to prove affordability. He submitted his payslips and bank statement. But now, what I’ve read so far, it’s me (the applicant) that has to show this. I’m worried cos I stopped working during the pandemic but he worked all through, so he is in the best position to show affordability. |

marylandcakes: The sad truth is that if the cracked tray wasn’t noted on the inventory then you will have to pay for it, as it will be regarded as damage. That’s not true. The house is owned by the landlord. Any damage in the house is repaired by the landlord, not the occupant, unless there’s proof that you damaged it intentionally or maliciously. Landlords just prefer to run away from their responsibility. They are meant to have insurance to cover damages, so once there’s damage in the house, the insurance covers it. What you’re trying to say is, because my fire door wasn’t spoilt before I moved in, I don’t have a right to complain? Leemao, I will even report them to plenty health and safety organisations sef. Then I’ll threaten to report them to any newspaper to discredit the agency for negligence. |

gratefulme40: I have seen on both citizens advice and gov.co.uk that Bath, basins and stuff are landlord’s responsibility to make sure they are in good working condition. They have probably seen my long unenglish name and think they can oppress me.
How can I enjoy flannel and bowl after 12hours shift of crazy nhs job. MBA! Just check Shelter.org.uk they will tell you how to fight with your landlord. There are 5 stages, after writing those 5 letters, you’re free to fix it yourself and deduct the cost from your rent. Of course the agency or landlord will harass you. Tell them to go and call the police on you, that you have all the letters that you sent to the landlord/agency and you will give it to the police with a link to shelters website. That it will be an easy investigation. That’s how I shut my landlord and agency up, when they wanted to bully, rubbish, they don’t know that I’m a mad woman! |

I find it baffling that they just took money and went silent, no communication, no nothing. Did anyone else get any message ( for those who applied from july onwards)?? Me too o, I applied. I think they will contact us when they are ready. I just kept the receipt to show anyone that asks why my passport has expired. So they know that I’m waiting for my embassy. |

Truly heartbreaking....... This is so wrong. I believe HCAs and volunteers should be even praised more because they have every right to turn down such jobs, but they didn’t. HCAs/volunteers aren’t even paid enough for such risks and won’t get compensated well! |

Their job is to treat people, but giving their whole best to a job while endangering themselves poses even more threat. Nobody signed up to die.
