dustydee: Oya while waiting, please how did you fill in the application? Any tips? I also saw employment history and another section with Previous skills and experience,do you know the difference between the two? I am also considering joining the civil service. There’s no difference between the two. For the EH I copied my work history from my CV and pasted. Then for previous skills and experience, I copied all my skills that I learned over the years (which should normally be in your CV too) and pasted. Example of EH is: Customer Care, Boots, April 2000-2012. I offered help to customers.... etc Example of PS&E is: Microsoft office, leadership, NVQ, etc |

Thanks dear. Much appreciated. The thing is, they seem not to know the law, and if they insist that I can’t work, I just have to accept. I can’t shout.
Cheers. |

fatima04: I would think an evidence of application should suffice. When it happened to me back in 2018, i submitted a copy of the visa appointment confirmation to HR. Then after a couple of days, I was sent an approval form to be signed, allowing them to access the visa information with Home office.
Afer the check, home office issued a Verification Notice valid for 6months, which confirms my right to work. So I believe a similar process should apply to your case. Chop kiss Fati Ah you’re so lucky this stressful part of your life is over |

From one government organisation to another, they are fully aware of backlogs......... Thanks so much. I can’t submit my application until 1 month to expiry, so I’ll just tell them to wait till then, since their body is scratching then You the best!! |

Home office Congrats dear! Did your employer tell you to stop working when your visa expired? Mine is telling me they don’t let me work until I get an outcome of my visa (visa that i can’t even submit application for until Nov 10 because it’s expiring Dec 10). Ridiculous! |

Has anyone had troubles using NHS test? Nope. But you need to pay for another test in Nigeria prior to landing, otherwise you will be kept waiting at the airport on a long queue. This is the website https://nitp.ncdc.gov.ng/onboarding/homepage |

Lexus please come o, I need your help (as usual)
I’m meant to resume work in civil service but they said that because my spousal visa is expiring in Dec, that I have to get an outcome of my second visa (flr), before I will be allowed to resume.
Shey all I need to do is show proof that I have applied to renew my visa and then I will be allowed to work for another 3 months? Because Home office has a huge backlog and haven’t even answered someone that applied for their extension in September. |

LagosismyHome: Why didnt she plan herself well, to go on a contraceptive or something
However what will happen depends on an individual. If she can do both been pregant and do school as normal then no problem
If she has complications with pregnancy and for example has an extended stay in hospital then such situation becomes tricky with attendance. But now with remote role you can get away with some thing. My colleague sent baby pic last week, absolutely nobody knew she been pregant all this while. However her husband is not working so will take care of the baby full time while she works so little impact
Hope this lady has help .... if she does then it makes it easier as well No o, if you’re pregnant and it’s a hard pregnancy, she just needs to inform welfare at her uni and they will take care of her well. If she even misses lectures, welfare will write to her department to inform them. If she misses assignment, she can easily get extensions if she presents her hospital letter and letter from welfare. Nothing will happen to her, except the difficulty of pregnancy if she has no one to take care of her. But school wise, she’s good to go. |

claremont: 100% agreed, and yet, we blame SARS, Buhari etc. The only Covid test I have done was the free one sent to me by the ONS. The idea of lying simply to get tested is disgusting. I know how my colleagues working in frontline NHS roles struggled and failed to get a test when they were exposed at work.
There are Covid-19 fitness to fly tests available via private labs. Pay the money and get tested. I don’t want to pay the money. Come and beat me. |

chrisj2: That guy called Aliu or something said the reason for the second test is because they noticed that people were coming in with covid picked up after the test or during flight (not likely picked up in Nja). To be fair, Covid is an imported phenomenon in Nja, most locals are covid free or immuned in some ways. The high profile deaths have been of abroad travellers... I don't want to pay for a second test but that is the rule. On the NHS test, it might accepted but it is frown upon by the NHS and the UK government... It is kind of not morally right because it adds to the bottleneck of testing and dealing with covid in this country... My tuppence! Wait are you pitying the UK govt after paying twice for health insurance (NI tax + IHS)? Lol Saint Chris; twale! |

chrisj2: It is not just the cost of travel that is the issue, it is the possibility that things might go wrong and become stressful and even more costly.
It is also very difficult to go to Nigeria from r a short period of time - let's say 9 days or less... 7 days to self isolate and then go and do a mandatory Nja test and then travel out; given that the second test is negative...
How long does the Nja test take to get a result? 24 hours. If you live in Abuja I think you can go to maitama hospital and register for your test, pick a preferred date and pay. You can also register online for the test. I’ll post the link when I get it. Oh actually when you register (prior to landing in Nigeria) they will send the link to you anyway. |

Bourne007: You asked for a good clinic na so as to do private test. They are all the same as they all send kits to you.
Google lists them all (as long as they are in the UK) for you to select which you prefer.
I used NHS. You don't have to if you find it risky Bourne abeg tell me how I can do the free test. So if I go on the website and say that I’ve been exposed on Monday, will they tell me to go and do the test on Tuesday then I’ll get my results on Wednesday? What about the walk-in centres, do I need to register prior to visiting them? I’m trying to plan my covid test so my 96 hours can fall before my flight. |
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Aphrodite007(f): 8:51pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
dustydee: Why? The virus needs a few days to cook inside your system before a test can pick it. So if you travel today with a test done yesterday, on getting to Nigeria, you’ll still be negative even though you’ve been exposed. Symptoms show after 5-7 days of exposure (less for people with poor immune system) and non existent symptom for people with amazing immune system. |

@ Aphrodite This is your territory. Kindly help. I am interested in this answer too. I don’t think so. You have to be exceptional for that to happen because the BA market is getting saturated and I’ve seen companies transition their project managers into BA (weird); some even employ just anyone and train them to become BAs. Monmarri: Dear friend I am asking on behalf of a friend, He lives in Ghana why his wife lives in the UK, the wife is a British citizen but not yet ready to bing her hubby to the UK bc she has not met her financial requirement for spouse visa. The hubby wants to visit her this Xmas , can he apply for visiting visa? Will the ECO ask why he doesn't want to join his wife? I learnt that some people have been refused visa bc of saying their partner is in the UK. Pls house how can he convince the ECO, that he is only visiting and will not overstay bc of his wife. I will appreciate responses. Thank you By having a job and other strong ties to his country of residence. If he is working in a good company and/or has a property or “asset” in his country of residence, the ECO would know that his visit is legit because he must return to his job. Also, In the letter, he could also explain that he doesn’t intend to move to the UK for now as the wife hasn’t met the requirement. ECOs would only reject if he doesn’t have a strong tie or if he isn’t financially buoyant for the trip. |

Question: Please a quick response is needed as he is about to make a decision by paying School deposit tomorrow location is Oxfordshine. Hang on. If he is paid 800k monthly in Nigeria, he must be experienced enough to apply for a job from Nigeria, he doesn’t need to come here to apply and IT is part of shortage list. The only problem is this might take time. Another way would be the T1 route. He seems to be rich, he should check what he needs to sponsor himself through the T1 route (Technation visa). |

Teemez: Good morning, kudos to everyone contributing on this thread. Asking the question on behalf of a brother:
Question: Please a quick response is needed as he is about to make a decision by paying School deposit tomorrow location is Oxfordshine.
his profile: He is Software Developer with paid employment here in Nigeria, he also have his personal business with an average income of like 800k per month, he is also a family man and he live in his own house, presently maintaining 3 cars, wife also have her business running averagely well just to mention but few about him.
The Big Question is that he seems to be tired of this country and he is finding every means NOT to raise his children in this country. So the main reason why he wants to travel abroad is to explore every means to stay permanently after study, please how attainable is this plan?.
Please for those living in the UK, what is life like for IT professional in the UK? Viz and viz securing a job during and after study (M.Sc) the average living expenses and how attainable is the dream of living a better life.
Note: Considering his little status here working as a security guard or shop attendant may not be of best interest ALTHOUGH he is not unaware that nothing good comes in easy way especially in foreign land.
Thanks for your prompt responses Let the wife come and do the masters. He shouldn’t leave a lucrative job to come here, that’s a huge risk. I don’t advice he leaves his job to come here because he won’t be allowed to do professional work while studying and may need to work in a store or become a carer during his studies, which is why wifey is the best bet (since oga na big man). When she’s done studying, she can then try and get a job. If she gets a professional job, the kids and the man can move and he can leave his job in Nigeria to hunt here. Since he will be coming in as an experienced dev, getting a job may be easy, however, he won’t get the big pay he used to get during the first year (due to not having UK work experience which matters to most companies). After a year or two, he can aim to become a senior Dev and can earn between 50 and 60 if it’s a good organisation (but this is for specialised languages like swift). Wish him the best. |

fatima04: My people, please for dependant on student visa, is middle name really important. Bank statement of the partner shows middle name but other documents doesnt include that name e.g marriage certificate and kids certificates.
Also, must the bank statement be stamped on each page if its on banks letterhead. Though the guidance says its not really necessary.
@LagosismyHome @justwise @mimilyrics and other good NL family members Middle name is not necessary if it’s not shown on documents. Not all documents include middle name. As far as it’s not letter head it’s fine. You don’t even need it stamped if it’s a UK bank. They can easily call and verify the authenticity of the bank statement if they need to. The stamping madness is mostly needed when it’s a Nigerian bank account because they can’t trust the authenticity easily. |

Even us that have British spouse and children don’t have permanent residency, doctors that have been working here for 4 years don’t have permanent residency, na student SAP is a software that he can learn. He doesn’t need a degree in it. No need to do a degree in project management (which is even phasing out due to agile practice), supply chain is great but a professional course in it can suffice no need to do a degree in it. LagosismyHome: Do HMRC audit personal bank accounts if you dont have a business .... I dont think so oo and wanted to ask when I saw that comment
Now if this money you are using it and officially declaring it as an income for visa purposes then fair enough ..... but if u are not declaring it as an income for visa purposes then why cant it be a gift from naija . If my mother sends me regular money from naija then that cannot be taxed
There also an issue of double taxation. If you are taxed in nigeria then hmrc needs to give tax relief so you dont pay double tax on that money
It all depends on what exactly you are doing with that money from abroad HMRC doesn’t audit personal bank accounts but the bank can flag the account and start asking annoying questions, if the money is too much and if the money is from abroad (especially Nigeria) Just the other day, First Direct called Mrs and was asking me to explain all the moneys in my account from as far back as January for amounts as little as £1k transfers. They even asked about some money I sent to Nigeria using moneyFex. Told them I had a business and that’s how they let me off the hook. But they still sent me a self cert form to fill. It depends on the bank sha. |
