missnigeria: Tell her oooooo,
Thanks for the response. What I only wanted to know is that, is it possible to get a job after the Masters and two years post study work and then switch to Tier 2 Visa. I need clarification. Ehen now you have come. My shock was how you went straight to the big fish. Even in Nigeria can you become that straight after school? Why then would you think that that would happen here? Yes it’s possible to get a job even while you’re doing your masters; I however advise people to get student jobs (retail, care, mail sorter, lesson teacher, nanny or hair stylist) during their masters so at least you’ll come out with Merit. Then while doing it, you start applying and learning how to write CVs and attend interviews. As you want to go into banking, apply for internships in a bank. Or teller jobs as a student. You start small and build from there. Where people fail is when they apply for the big boys, you go just they apply they go. Experience and Communication is everything here, and only starting small will help you get them. |

Olalekank: Trust me, ma, we wouldn't like it.
I recently saw an interview with a lady who worked in this sort of role - guiding posts. Based on what she said, it's psychologically draining and the trauma is another thing. She had to undergo therapy.
Some of the content which they review are really disturbing.
If it's the actual cyber security work, yes we dey available
I don't see many people here trying to shoot for the investment banks though Wow for real that’s heartbreaking. I didn’t think social media was that bad to this point. |

Kolping: Facebook creates 1,000 new UK jobs
Facebook will create 1,000 new roles in London over the course of this year, including adding to its team tackling harmful online content.
More than half of the new jobs will be technology-focused, with roles in software engineering, product design and data science, the company said.
It will take Facebook's UK workforce to more than 4,000.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51184323 Looks like I’ve found a new employer I’ve changed my mind. I thought it was real tech work, they are just looking for internet police to guide posts. The younger generation would love this. |

Are Certificates gotten from udemy in Nigeria useful in the UK?.
I want to know because I'm already doing one and intend to do more if it's useful there.
You do the maths yourself sir:
If you know in your heart that you won’t fight with your wife when she comes here and because she doesn’t want to do all she used to do in Nigeria, then you can come under her. It’s cost efficient and very flexible. You just sit in your house and be applying for jobs while learning one or two courses in Udemy- no pressure.
If you know you will vex and fight with your wife and consider divorce, better close your eyes and spend the money and be on your own o (luckily it’s on the shortage list) so we won’t hear stories that touch the heart. Udemy is Udemy. Here no one cares about your certificates. I’ve had 3 jobs and nobody asked me for even my BSc. Their own is when they ask you to cut the patient (if na surgeon you claim to be), you won’t say “eh?” Or “I don’t understand”. |

STENON: If you are a family man or woman and your spouse has teaching qualifications, experiences or TRCN... apply for admission for yourself and look for money to pay half tuition and move over. Let your spouse be your dependant to be eligible for full time job position and when they come over here... they get the necessary teaching licence and start working as a teacher which makes it easier to pay your full tuition fees plus a saving grace for your spouse to get tier 2 visa sponsorship so you can apply as the dependant after your studies .
Forget all those other top jobs with highest pay, it's difficult to get such here. Nobody cares about your overseas qualification if you don't do another Professional examination, training or no UK experience to get their licence.
So many Engineering graduates, biochemist, bank managers from Nigeria working as a sales boy/girl, cleaner, carer or support worker in UK.
But with Teaching, you are good to live a comfy life in UK But Somebody coming for masters said they want to be business and financial manager ambition is sweet sha |

Ibuske: @Aphrodite007...Please what are the Prons and Cons of the Course in Scotland?
Thank you Pros is it’s a lovely course. Pro is if you’re fine die, you might just marry and your hustle would make sense. Cons is you won’t get a job u less you are British because a lot of their people study it. Con again is really? for a masters? Isn’t there an alternative that you will use when you go back to Nigeria? (Cos I’m yet to see social work get a good job in Nigeria unless it’s through connect). FINAL PRO- seeing as they are giving 2 year post study, you may get work in social care (but don’t feel insulted that your boss doesn’t even have bsc). FINAL CON- The issue is what will happen after the two years when you don’t get a husband or a sponsor? Another masters? WhY don’t you consider teaching like the lovely lady above spoke about? |

dustydee: For me, MSc in project management is a waste of time and resources, you do not need a degree for that. Cyber security or data science is a good one. Very true but why get a degree that you can’t defend. If the guy is able to sell himself well as being better than someone with just a certification, he may end up in a very good place. But that cyber security from Geo, e get as e be- the culture shock will be great |

Msc in Cyber Security with Placement or Msc in Project Management with Placement Please note that he would like to switch to tier 2 visa after his course
cc: LagosismyHome, dusytdee, Aphrodite007, justwise, Lexusgs430, fatima04, jesmond3945, everybody If it must be between these two: Project management with placement. You still need IT background to blag well at interviews. With PM, although he doesn’t need a degree for it, he has a chance of being more than a PM after some years of experience. He can even mix the geo and PM and land in an oil company if he keeps improving on his geo knowledge. However, I wouldn’t advice doing it as a degree unless he wants to use study to enter UK. You can do a Prince2 in naija, get certified and that’s all. Cos even with the PM degree, you must still get a prince to become ordinary PMO assistant in some places. |

teejay231: Not sure how anyone can understand cloud infrastructure without some basic coding skills. From my experience, every technical position in the UK requires a technical test / assessment to ensure that you can do what you say you can do. Sometimes you can do it at home and other times they want you to do it in their office in front of a few people or as a peering exercise to see how you work with other people.
One thing I have also learned is to never lie or brag on your CV. Better to say you don't know something but willing to learn and focus on what your strengths. Well sir, one thing with the UK is you gotta brag. There’s no room for humility. If you act small, they will make sure you remain small. The current job I’m doing, I didn’t know much about it, I just did extensive research. It is part of my expertise but I have never done it before. Now see me even being given Lead role in it. I spent train rides reading and watching videos to learn. It’s about selling yourself finish. But please do your humility way. Also if you say cyber security needs programming, that’s fine. I no argue again. It means the one in my office is foolish (unless of course you’re referring to sql, powershell, and I’ve forgotten the other one, as programming). |

profemebee: Hello beautiful people,
Thanks for such a beautiful forum with lots of brainstorming and positive experiences....
i have questions i will wish to ask from time to time.. please help with answers..
However, for now, please help with these questions:
- My Spousal visa vignette is from Sept 2019 - 20 June 2022 (expiry date for my BRP)... please when can i start to worry about FLR M extension? Please can one help with some specific period because i'm seeing 45days to pick appointment dates when it says u cant apply before 28days or so..
- How does the 28day rule work again? already forgotten it.. The date of payment of application should not be more than 28days after the most recent payslip and financial documents ? Right?
- My wife n i co-habit with her sister for now, and we intend to get our place later this year.. Does this affect our chances for documents like Council tax? Because she and her sister are the names attached to the tax bill.... Should she add me to the council tax bill, meaning 3 people? at least till we get our own place.
- This Bank letter, GP letter, HMRC and NHS letters i keep seeing as documents shown.. please can y'all explain a bit further? because my wife says she doesn't have HMRC nor NHS letter as when she goes to the GP, she isnt given any letters...
Thanks for answering my questions for now..
Bless !!!! (1) read backwards, it’s in the thread.. almost above your question. (2) best to wait until you get the visa so as not to submit more than necessary docs. Because you’ll need proof of address of your current place and the previous place. If you want to be added and the owner of the house doesn’t mind, no problem. Otherwise it will just be classed as proof of of address for just 1 person (which isn’t a problem. (3) she doesn’t receive bank letter? That’s very unusual. As for GP, so she goes to the GP without being invited? She must be really healthy. If you don’t have these, just replace with others. Simple. |

LagosismyHome: if you dont have relevant experience , having certification adds credibility to your profile This is what I’ve been saying. If you’re a sharp person, you’ll learn on the job and they won’t even know that you don’t know. Just have the certificate to get your leg in. I once had a QA that didn’t know shit. Guy was even earning more than me sef, can you imagine? And I was the one teaching him his job. Now if you see how good he is, it’s unbelievable. |

Simran94: Thanks cc Aphrodite007 , as you can see programming is involved. Baba I dey tell you, you won’t need to code in cyber security. Power shell, yes, MCSE, probably. You just need knowledge of cloud computing. Normally as an technical person, they would expect you to have basic knowledge of programming. I’m not a coder but I have basic knowledge that can allow me brag at interviews. That’s all. If you get into the role and they now ask you to code, you watch YouTube and code. Simple. 90% of coding is reused anyway, so you’re allowed to google. Also, not all adverts know what they are asking for: IT and Med are complex fields to employ for. |

Do ITIL first to get a job then CISP or CISSA afterwards. After two years of practice, do TOGAF and aim for Business or Enterprise Architecture. On the way, make sure you get basic data skills (sql or python) I want to even start studying for CISA |

Simran94: Having a certification does not verify your ability to apply the knowledge. What's most important is your skills. Do you have programming skills? Programming skills is for if he wants to become a dev. Programming is a passion, not everyone can do it so you can’t force it on him. Also, a certification is all you need in the UK, not even a masters. They will test your ability later, but your certification is what you need to get in. |

First of, we enter on the right, and you have right of way if you’re entering the outer lane (rightmost lane)- that’s what I was taught o. I want to know if its possible to invest/buy TB through any Nigerian bank without walking into the bank to get it done..basically can it be done online? To the best of my knowledge no, it can’t be done online. Someone has to walk into the bank on your half to do it. When you do it the first time, you can then manage it (re-invest) online. If you have filled an indemnity form with your bank (I think that’s what it’s called) you won’t have to walk in physically, you will just contact your bank via email to make investments on your behalf. |
