On the issue of Boko Haram, Okogie said government knew those behind it and refused to bring them to book.I couldn't have agreed with him more, why would they send the spokesman of a terrorist group that has killed hundreds of lives to 3 years imprisonment, and the so-called sponsors released ![]() |
The Founder of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), Dr Frederick Fasehun, on Wednesday described Nigerians as timid people who could not come together to fight a common enemy. He said; “Nigerians are too timid. We watch thieves operate and simply run away. We see things we could report or come together to fight but look the other way.’’ He lamented the lack of zeal by Nigerians to help tackle the insecurity across the nation. The OPC leader however, urged the Federal Government to chose a team to dialogue with members of the Boko Haram sect. Fasehun told journalists in Lagos that mediation must come soonest, to avoid more casualties. “There must be people that the Boko Haram will listen to. These people are Nigerians and they can be reached– but it must be by people they can listen to,’’ he said. According to him, Nigeria is not short of personalities that the sect can trust enough to tell their grievances. He said bombing of churches cast doubt on the known grouse of the sect.“If the Boko Haram is against Western Education, how come they do not go bombing schools?’’ he asked. Fasehun stressed the need for security operatives to open up and let Nigerians know and understand the grouse of the sect. He said that the situation might seem hard to tackle but difficult situations sometimes were resolved by simple solutions. NAN reports that the sect, which claimed responsibility for the Christmas Day bombings, has also threatened further attacks on New Year eve. AWKA—CATHOLIC Archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie, has expressed unhappiness over the present situation of things in the country, stressing that the present government of President Goodluck Jonathan appeared confused. Addressing newsmen in Awka after inaugurating the ultra-modern St Peter’s Catholic Church, built by a philanthropist, Chief Austin Ndigwe, Okogie observed that everything appeared to have ground to a halt, adding that government seemed to lack the initiative to put things right. “To say that we are making progress in Nigeria is to deceive ourselves. To those in government, they might be making progress, but to most Nigerians, we are not getting better. The present regime is confused in all its ramifications. https://vml1.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/jonat.jpg “For instance, they want to remove oil subsidy and the question I ask is, what do they want to do with the money? Up till now, nobody has told Nigerians in specific terms how the money to be saved from removing fuel subsidy will be used. “If they tell us that they want to channel it to any project, they should be able to tell us which project the money will go into. “They should also tell us the contractors that will handle such projects so that Nigerians should hold them responsible should they disappoint the people as they were doing in the past.” He accused government of taking so many projects at a time and realizing none, suggesting that it would be better to concentrate on one or two sensitive projects that touch lives of Nigerians and work towards achieving them. According to him, there is nothing wrong in government making sure that power is made available on a regular basis, as well as ensuring that the nation’s refineries were producing at optimal capacity. Okogie noted that these would go a long way towards alleviating the sufferings of the people. On the issue of Boko Haram, Okogie said government knew those behind it and refused to bring them to book. He observed, for instance, that a Nigerian who was accused of trying to bomb an American plane last year was still in detention, yet those arrested for allegedly sponsoring Boko Haram activities were released hurriedly from detention. He argued that treating the issue with kid’s glove would never solve the problem because those behind it were desperate to see Nigeria disintegrate. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/12/jonathans-govt-confused-okogie/ |

Did she just say that the poor does not benefit from the subsidy Practically speaking one of the main determinants of the price of products (Gari, Yam, Clothes etc) in the market is the fuel price. If fuel price goes up, cost of transportation goes up and subsequently the market price goes up. I'm so disappointed ![]() |
Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in a bomb blast and gun rampage in Norway, is likely to escape jail after a psychiatric evaluation concluded he had been "psychotic" at the time of the attacks.Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in a bomb blast and gun rampage in Norway, is likely to escape jail after a psychiatric evaluation concluded he had been "psychotic" at the time of the attacks. The decision means that Breivik instead faces years, or even a lifetime, of compulsory psychiatric treatment in a secure ward, if, as expected, it is backed by an expert panel. State prosecutor Svein Holden said that the two forensic psychiatrists believed Breivik had been insane throughout the years that he meticulously planned the attacks. "Anders Behring Breivik during a long period of time has developed the mental disorder of paranoid schizophrenia, which has changed him and made him into the person he is today," he said in a press conference after receiving the report. The two forensic psychiatrists, Torgeir Husby and Synne Soerheim, had uncovered "grandiose delusions whereby he believes he is to determine who is to live and who is to die," he explained. Jarl Robert Christensen, whose lost his daughter Birgitta in the attack, said that victims' relatives would struggle to accept the ruling. read full article here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/norway/8924092/Norway-killer-Anders-Behring-Breivik-to-escape-jail-after-declared-insane.html |
