adeaks:. What we need is better governance at the grassroot. Local councils doing their jobs. Take for example, if you come from Ondo State and your roads are good, light is working, schools, hospitals, libraries, waste dispal, booming local economy, low unemployment, will you care if your governor is from Ifo, Owo, Akure, Ikare or wherever? Or In Edo State in last election where Benin people (including Oba's palace) preferred Osho Baba to a Bini guy with ties to the palace of Oba Benin. Because Osho Baba delievered a little bit, far more than a pervious governer lucky who is Bini. |
Mynd44:. Well, America doesn't have high ranking officers as Al Qaeeda sympathisers feeding terrorists with intelligence like we have in 9ja. Boko can easily overrun the command with insider information. That's the big difference my friend. |
Firefire:. Gbam. I feared for that man's life o. In such a bigoted place like ours, going back in one piece is no joke. And for the past 20 years, no presidential couple that went to Aso Rock and stayed for more than a year came out as a couple. It's either as a widow or widower. Miryam Abacha, OBJ & Mrs Yar'Adua. |
Daniyemi:Well considering Lucky's abysmal failure, we'd still prefer Osho Baba my dear. At least he did a little bit in his first term. Second term is now for flexing. ![]() Of course the next APC candidate might not do anything if he wins, so is PDP's, who knows? |
Mynd44:So it's donkeys that central command in Borno will use to send message to our troops in Sambisa forest? ![]() I see, well they need to be within Adamu's donkey's trekking distance. GMB can send down some of his donkeys in his Daura farm. ![]() Shebi GMB went to that Amrican military school where they said he acquired a certificate equivalent to MSc. What did he learn there? This is like sending your son to read medicine in London. Then he returns after 10 years and start treating people with Agbo. While you claim that the kind of jedi jedi in Nigeria is different from oyinbo one. |
adeaks:. Shey you see politics. We're not ready to face reality yet in 9ja. Fact is at least 10 to 15 states are not viable at all and should never have been created. You cannot just create states with the huge bureaucracy that go with them: governors and deputy govnrs, State HoA, commissioners and aids, civil service/departments & parastatals, etc. All on top of oil money, except perhaps Lagos, Rivers, Ogun and a few other states with a decent IGR. We cannot afford more than 20 states, a unicameral parliament, ministers drawn from 6 geopolitical zones, not each state. |
theV0ice:. As for Buhari being invited to lead, that's pure rewriting history. I remember that in 1981 or early 82, there was clear rumour of a Buhari -led coup afoot. I had seasoned journalists in the family. To begin with, Buhari wanted to take over from OBJ. Did you ever ask why OBJ changed NASS "electoral college" rule after 1979 election, that would hv made Awo president?? A Yoruba man succeeding a Yoruba would lead to a couple. But the coup still came anyway, only later than it would have. GMB has wanted power for a long time. Now he has it, hope he uses it well. |
scachy:. In 9ja, police will say "na family matter, couple wey don marry like 25 years, dem nor kill themselves, na now them wan kill themselves? Make dem go settle am for family." God forbid, until it's too late. That's the attitude of police. |
redgem:. Tough situation. If you can afford it conveniently, check into an hotel for now. Otherwise, stay with a friend. Sleep in the friend's parlour or sofa if you must. And wait for relatives to come. Don't leave the poor lady out of your sight. |
People should remember, GEJ has been in political office for 16 years. He'd be happy to have some rest and quiet. He's no kid, he knows many associates were there for patronage. It's just part of life. |
bushdoc9919:. Actually Alamienseigha had to visit GEJ many times to persuade him to become Bayelsa gubernatorial running mate. Only to see the drama that made him governor. OBJ wanted an unambitious and gentle VP for Yar'dua (an opposite of Atiku) and he felt an Ijaw to help placate militants would do nicely. We all know if Yar'dua had not died, GEJ would never have been president. Like him or loathe him, he's certainly a child of destiny. Children of destiny always face criticism, achieve both success n failure. But GOD is wise, he let's things happen. |

My wish is that during Buhari's regime, Nigerians should finally realise that the change they expect is not coming from only one man in Aso Rock. That the change should come from everyone collectively beginning from each individual and each household. That Nigerians imbibe the following: Genuinely fear GOD in all they do (not just for show). More patriotic Upright Incorrputible Proud citizens Work even harder Charitable Criticise constructively Curb greed Begin to cherish substance instead of show (packaging). Respect fellow citizens's individual rights & freedoms (including sanctity of life: no jungle justic or ritual killing). Expect less from the centre/country Give more to their fatherland Curb bigotry & tribalism Pay taxes See Nigeria's wealth as a patrimony, not for just indivual exploitation Think of future generations and plan for them Do not make themselves tools in the hands of big men (including politicians) who care about nobody else but themselves. If citizens imbibe most of the above attributes, GMB's task would be much easier. |
omenka:Herbalist nor be hustler? The Bible says there will be false prophets/pastors. But they are still pastors. |
The reason Nigerians get abusive and sorely disappointed easily is because they hail and expect too much from one man at the centre. They forget that in a federal system states and local councils have the most responsibility. Not presidency. If Buhari can make those tiers of govt live up to their responsibilities and devolve more powers to them, his regime would hv being a decent one, along with curbing corruption and excesses AND electricity. But those expecting miracle are unrealistic. |

efilefun:And how many completed projects did Yar'dua leave behind after cancelling OBJ's projects? A person who is well brought up argues his case without insulting people. You remember what cabal did to our treasury in Yar'sdua's time. By the way, did we get light after OBJ spent 20 billion dollars on it? Anyway, we're waiting for GMB's miracle. Until we all accept that a country of 170 million people n has only about 4 trillion Naira budget is a very poor country, and cannot afford fuel subsidy, we cannot move forward. 4 trillion should be budget for Lagos State alone for things to work optimally. |

@poster, you see in Nigeria, we are simply in denial. We are a very POOR country with a budget less than that of countries of 7 million people. This wrong notion that we are rich must STOP. Our wealth is human capital if properly trained. My support for subsidy removal years back was frowned upon here on NL. No explanation made sense to them. |
theV0ice:Well, many people helped him overthrow Shagari. Ignoring the input of those people led to IBB n co booting him out. If he does same this time, the country will go no where. Those who spent big want big returns. If that doesn't materialise, rocking the boat is understatement. If only NASS and other corrupt bodies could be suspended for just 2 years so that GMB can have free hand to clean up the system. |

CaptainJune:. The nation builders you're talking of: Zik & Awo couldn't work together. Awo & Akintola couldn't work 2geda causing riots in SW region. Led to State of emergency in SW imposed by Balewa. All created fertile ground for the first coup. They fought for independence like Nkrumah, Kenyatta, Kaunda & Boigny, Banda, others. But nation builders swallow their ego and join hands to form the most progressive possible national govt. Murtala despite his patriotic rhetoric, destroyed civil service inherited from colonial time. What replaced it became far more corrupt & inefficient than the previous. In any case his stay was too short. Awo was a great Region Builder though. You cannot dispute that. At the federal level, we have never been blessed with a modern progressive leader that has nationwide acceptance and support to push through very urgent reforms. We came closest in 1979, but OBJ denied Awo the chance with a sudden change in "electoral college" NASS rule. Now, everyone keeps shouting marginalisation. |
Very silly NYSC official. Nothing like " our thoughts are with her family & friends at this difficult time" or something similar. Very callous people. RIP young lady. You lost your life serving a system that doesn't deserve it. |
Datanet:. You talk as if you don't know how weak Nigeria's institutions are. Has GEJ been president since 1960? If you wait for the Nigerian system that is so corrupt at all levels to control and monitor the vast subsidy fraud, you will wait for a long time. Gej's approach was "prevent the fraud at source". Subsidy removal even for 3 years would have given the window to work out adequate means of control, so that when re-introduced, it would be impossible to defraud. The average Ghanian is not richer than a Nigerian. Ghana removed subsidy and they are alive. For Nigeria to move forward, we must forget the notion that we're a rich country and stop living above our means. If Nigeria produces 2.5 million barrels a day, daily revenue is 2,500,000 x $50 = $125,000,000. 125,000000/170, 000, 000 = $0.735 per day per Nigerian. That is assuming the govt collects all the money. BUT that's not the case. After oil companies collect their cut, a Nigerian might have around $0.40 per day. Even if we double production and prices double, a Nigerian's share will still not exceed $1.50 per day. So we're a poor country EXCEPT for a huge human capital that has been poorly harnessed. We cannot afford elaborate subsidy. We must reduce luxury, imports, owambe, no bicameral parliament, no presidential fleet. Sell off Aso Rock and get a smaller State house. AND PRODUCE MORE. Agric, IT, Services, tourism and stop waiting for oil money. |
PassingShot:. Well, no need talking too much now. May 29th is almost here. Let's see if GMB will send messengers to every household before making executive decisions. Those of us who witnessed GMB's regime before would have a good idea. |
kay29000:. People took a sectarian approach to it. They were NOT ready to hear or listen. It wasn't at all about rational. It was about plans to unseat GEJ come 2015. It was making him look as bad as possible. People like me who tried explaining here were shouted down by tribal bigots. GEJ could not go about arresting Wale Tinubu, Otedola, Dangote's Uncle (Dantata), Ubah and the rest that pocketed billions in subsidy that Nigerians didn't enjoy. They would have called him a militant from the creek, out to deal with non-Niger Deltans. Now people are talking about subsidy from all corners of their mouth. People should get ready for the "change" they clamour for. Removal of subsidy would be just a start. |
PassingShot:. But GEJ saw the fraud and the highly connected people, and the difficulty fighting it. Because too many people have been eating where they didn't sow. He knew the only way was to remove subsidy but you all called him clueless. So this is pure hypocrisy. |

In case you forgot, Yaradua reduced the price of petrol before he died but the clueless fedora hat wearing drunkard gave everyone a shocker Jan 1st 2012... And here the fool is leaving with trillions of debt for generations to settle while he met Zero Naira debt when he got there
