najoke:. Well, with Buhari & Sultan of Sokoto saying fighting Boko if fighting the North, GEJ had to be cautious. Northern elite also roundly condemned state of emergency. Our neighbours didn't have to first confront internal bigotry, tribalism and slave-master born-to-rule sectarians like GEJ did. Nor the sabotage and intelligence supply to Boko by Northern Boko sympathisers within the our army. You also cannot compare our neighbours making sporadic & targeted raids into 9ja territory, often in pursuit of Boko units, to the vast Sambisa area that the Nigeria Army had to cover. Buhar's assertion was to undermine GEJ, but rubbished therewith the sacrifices of our gallant soldiers. Hardly a patriotic act. |
Amaechi has not been in PH for months. I think some of his (Amaechi's) staff just helped themselves to whatever they could once Wike won. So, Amaech's neglect really. |
barcanista:. Just wait, now that evidence is here, they will spin it again. Or start throwing insults if they cannot spin it. It's not about integrity or truth. It's propaganda & power grab. |
Bluetooth2:. Co-operation is great. Common sense really. BUT Buhari roundly condemned GEJ for doing so. If you saw the few interviews GMB gave to Western Media like I did, you should know. |
JudismphD:. Also funny that he said Nigeria should not rely on neighbouring countries to help us fight terrorism. He said it live in Western media interview. I saw it during the campaign. Hope he's going to tell those countries to stop fighting Boko, so Nigeria can do it alone. |
sexymoma:. Really, but it was alright to scrutinise PEJ. Continue with double standard. Everyone knew it was never about integrity but the North using the usual people and their propaganda machine to return power to the owners of Nigeria up North. We dey watch o. Laughing in Kikuyu. |
Ezenwammadu:. It's mere speculation for now. Ah ah, APC can't try that na. They won't want to be the most ridiculous promise-and-fail propaganda party ever seen in Nigeria, would they? We're waiting for GMB to shoot crude price back to $100/barrel in world market and make naira be at par with the dollar as promised. We should not be too impatient, after all they still have 96 days left to achieve all that. |
@OP, This looks like plantain, not banana. We used to have some double bunch bearing plantain trees in our yard back in the day. Very nice pics by the way. |
WisdomCanada:. Hahahaha! So APC propaganda strong o. They even copied "Goodluck Jonathan did not declare his asset", when in fact GEJ did exactly what GMB has done now. |
PabloAfricanus:. Thanks@ PabloAfricanus. @Edo History lost on People. This is not a concidence. It's sadly also not unique to Edo/Benin Kingdom. It's common to most colonised for great Kingdoms/empires in non-Caucasian areas. The civilisation seen in Nubia, Benin, Oyo, Buganda, Zimbabwe, Ngola (now Angola) and others didn't fit the Western narrative of inferior/sub-human savages. Calculated attemts were made to give credit to pyramids of Nubia to Egyptians, Zimbabwe architecture to unknown caucasians who one somehow got there first, Benin arts to influence from Arabia and so on. For a long time, we were not thought smart enough to develop advanced systems of government/administration/organisation/warfare, arts, technology/metallurgy and so on. When it became obvious that we actually were or are, it was played down and barely mentioned in colonial text books. Then also consider the fall of Benin empire in 1897. It was imperative for the British to limit the influence of Benin to the area around Benin alone. As a pre-condition for restoration of the monarchy, Eweka II had to sign away Benin rights to provinces in Eastern Yorubaland, parts of Edo State, some areas of Bayelsa & Rivers State (like Degema), Delta State, notably Warri, whose Olu of Itsekiri (as it was known then) stool had been left vacant for decades by Oba of Benin as punishment for alleged insurbordination. Even Ado-Akure people from Ondo/Ekiti bringing tributes/gift to Eweka II upon coronation in 1914 were prevented from coming by the British as that would somehow keep them in touch with Benin. Thereby perpetuation the Oba's influence. Now Benin is just one minority "tribe" within Nigeria. Now we talk of Wazobia. To be continued...... |
The only problem is that like with GEJ, pictures of smiles and cheerful mood can appear in the media when scores have just been killed by accident in Onitsha and more in Borno by Boko. Then suddenly, it all starts looking insensitive. Irrespective of when the pictures were actually taken. GMB's camp should get ready for the treatment dished out to GEJ. It's the nature political life. |
searchcorp:. I think Sahara Reporters are surprisingly poorly informed or just pretend to be. Elections do happen reguarly in Zimbabwe and foreign leaders and others do attend. That Americans don't go doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If you want to ask when he will step down, fine. Good question to ask. Fact is Deola didn't really get any response from Mugabe. Perhaps with a bit more finesse they might have had a little chat. That is if getting any response was even the aim, rather than causing what they think is embarassment. Throwing questions that get no response is something that happens to leaders regularly. Talking of bravery when attempting to talk to Mugabe on Nigerian soil is rather funny. What could Mugabe's aids have done? Kidnap her and take to Harare? |
This is bad. |
People say these hairstyles are no more good enough. Funny thing is they haven't come up with anything remotely original. All people carry in their heads now is goat hair, dead people's hair and hair donated to temples/shrines in faraway countries. |
Ogun benefit from being between Lagos & Oyo state. They benefited from early educational establishments and Christian mission. They also have smart, talented, business-minded & thrifty people too (Ijebu come to mind). No surprise that they have produced so many illustrious people. It's proximity to Lafos has attracted both talent & hoodlums from far and wide, for which Ogun often gets the flak. One must commend people like Bisi Onabanjo who had the foresight to draw industries to Ogun, especially Otta. |
stagger:On a small scale, traps are usually set around the farm. When few of them are caught, they usually run away. But with many hectares, am not sure. If weed is well controlled, they are usually reluctant to devour crops. |
create321:hmmm |
@Poster, Watch out for grasscutter in your area. They ruined a family member's hectares of maize last year. He switched to plantain this year. Good account/diary. |
dapyd1:. Na Jonathan abi Ngozi na them put the newspapers in the boxes, bah? Individual corruption is far worse than at the centre. That's where it is passed on to the next generation, by parents, uncles & aunties. |
Chukwugekwu:Haba! I'm an ardent GMB critic, but I laud this appointment. If only for not appointing Amaechi. The all powerful SGF nor be beans. All ministers come under him. A principled man like Onu is cool, not those jumping from party to party like frog, just seeking relevance. Now this delay in appointing people might just begin to make sense. Let me wait to see where he puts FASHOLA. Power or works or petroleum with enhanced powers will make me sit up. We need someone who can roll up his sleeves to sanitise those rotten ministries. Until then. If he can convince Ribadu to join him, convince Donald Duke and give a good role to Ngige, like Ministry of Health. That would be good indeed. Let GMB surprise us positively. |
@Shymex, the intricacy is really mind-blowing. I have got the kids to see them too. @Yoruba religions in Benin, it's very simple. With Oranmiyan/Oba Eweka 1 dynasty came many Ife gods to Benin and maybe thereafter too. And mostly like several skilled people too. Even the priest in charge of royal ancestral shrine (Chief Oloton of Benin) came with Oranmiyan from Ife. The same family is still in charge till now. Freeborn citizens of Ife & few visitors were the only people allowed to enter the palace without body tattoo (iwu) which every Benin adult used to have as a mark of Benin identity. Until about the 19th century. In any case, in my part of Edo State, unique deities my ancestors returned with from OWO are still there, of course most are now Christians. Even Owo dialect spoken there is just gradually dying out now. And there are at least 25 villages with Eastern Yoruba heritage like that I know of. Like the Romans, Benin people adopted gods even from vassal states. Like my family were imperial ambassadors in Owo. Princely ambassadors adopted such deities across areas that fell under Benin control at some point. It was a good diplomatic move too. A sign of respect from supposed overlords. Like Romans adopted Greek and Egyptian gods. I consider Benin not as a tribe, but as a culture. Being a Benin person is belonging a central cultural heritage and the Oba as the custodian of tradition, traditional religion and culture. But actually it's a kaleidoscope of many traditions and cultures, some indigenous, some adopted. Many non-Benin cultures have survived within Benin Kingdom, in a way they might not have done elsewhere. Diversity seemed to have been quite normal, especially as mercenaries and skilled people from elsewhere were welcome. For example, the large number of Benin people in Akure, Owo, Ondo, Ikare, Ekiti areas and so on called Ado-Akure (Edo n'Ekue) colloquially, till about 1914, now all go by Yoruba name and identity. Whereas, in the last 200 hundred years, two Benin Traditional Prime Ministers (the Iyase), doubling as head of the army and second-in-command to the Oba, were chosen from among Ado-Akure people, Okoro-Otun being the best known. Another Iyase came from Brass (a son of the Amayanagbo/King of Brass) in recent memory. Being of Benin royal ancestral ties. I know their descendants, who are all proud Benin people today. Even the current Iyase is of Urhobo heritage. The clamour for tribal supremacy and independence in Nigeria makes it difficult to talk about our historical interdependence. Sorry for the epistle. |
It's what supportive wives do. While she might have been reluctant, once they got in, she threw herself into it. She may just have played her role, irrespective of her sentiments in private. I guess some think she's not sophisticated enough to do such. Have we all not seen our mums do something similar with some of dad's decisions? Whether it's relatives moving in permanently, taking on certain responsibilities at work, going on transfer to another city, building a new house somewhere that she doesn't really fancy or any such things. |
ok snowland:ok |
What I see is a guy with Victorian mentality. The Victorians did all kind of "atrocities", adultery, fornication and more. But went to church regularly and did all under veil and flowing gowns. Same atrocities are going on in churches now, it's all just holier than though hogwash. Majority are pretenders. What you need is Grace of God and faith. Broad is the way that leads to destruction. Matthew 7: 13-14. For the time is come judgement must begin in the house of God. 1 Peter 4:17 If you go by this your list, just join your nearest monastery. But while you're there, you're free to hammer adult men, but please don't touch the kids. ![]() |
double0seven:. Seconded. You need a cool, calm and collected person as SGF. Amaechi is not. SGF should be somebody you can relate with easily, without an ego the size of Zuma rock. I doubt such a relationship can work between Buhari & Amaechi. Amaechi will likely clash with some key ministers. You know that SGF is crucial in running the entire government apparatus. FASHOLA is the man for such a job. His calmness & integrity speak for themselves. He's also a Muslim (important) because there are times that certain things can even be discussed on the way to Jumat prayer for example, just a better flow generally. Although Fashola's talent in supervising physical infrastructure might be lost. Chief of Staff can go to a Northerner. Jonathan had Ayim & Oghiadome (both Southerners) as SGF & CoS at some point though. |
hadura29:. Sure, the same Northerners who have controlled things for nearly 40 years without anything to show for it can continue. What difference will another 4 to 8 years make? People blamed Jonathan during his 5 plus years in power, by some of the same "owners" of Nigeria who were out to frustrate him through terrorism, propaganda, allegation of killer squad, 1000 prominent people pencilled for execution and plans to handover to the military. Ironically, he handed over to a retired general. God and Nigerians are watching. |
dre11:. My dear, let's be honest. In Nigeria reproduction is the major reason for a man to marry. For women, it's for reproduction, security and respect in society. I guess the reason they are still together is because the man already has 4 kids. This man wanted a woman to help look after the kids. They have a rather unusual situation though. Normally the complain is that the woman maltreats her step-kids, whether real or perceived. The man is a bit jealous of the love the kids have for the lady. I think the kids are very blessed and well-adjusted to appreciate their stepmum. The lady seems a fiery character, not helped by the man's possible philandering. In all, the man nor try at all. Na yeye guy. Seems he wants to use the lady and dump. The kids have now grown up. But what type of friends the lady mixes with? Close friends ready to knack your man behind your back?? SMH. |
Dekatron:. Lol, ok. I have seen loads of people with quite interesting hallucinations. Until we hear the parents' version, we won't know. If indeed there's ritual involved, his parents may deny it flat. So it's complex, more so because this is Africa. Here in Europe, the diagnosis would be quite easy. But the psychosocial & cultural aspects are different. |
Dekatron:. The story fits hallucination perfectly. But he claimed the parents saw the blood. Is his half-brother also hallucinating? |
noblezone:. Focusing on employment is crucial. Unemployment is too much. But a ministry would mean more bureaucracy and huge cost. I guess a department directly under the governor would be better. But at least he sees the urgency of it. |
ireneony:. You got the first part great. She's dating and doing so carefully/responsibly. Maybe the reason she hasn't introduced the dude is because she's not sure how he (and his siblings if any) will take it. You know kids like to see their sweet mummy as virgin Mary. ![]() As for his dad having possibly bedded 50 ladies, it's a gross exaggeration and perception women have. It's a lot easier for ladies to shag lots of men and clean mouth than for men to do so. Only that men make little effort to conceal it. It takes a lot of energy, time and money running after many ladies. Most men are "getting" far less than they claim among peers. Whereas an average looking lady that dresses nicely n carry herself well can have 3 toasters (active/passive, serious/unserious included) daily. A non-picky lady can have a new guy everyday. ![]() |
fallout87:. Of course. OBJ said GEJ has a killer squad, 1000 marked for execution and has planned handover to a military ING. Yet the man conceded defeat quickly and no single person executed mysteriously before, during or after elections. GEJ even conducted GMB around Aso Rock and hosted handover dinner for GMB. He's now in Otuoke. I wonder how many do-or-die Nigerian politicians would have done that. Amaechi didn't even have the grace to handover personally to Wike. As usual, Northerners have used the usual people to advance Northern hegemony. Amnesty was always expected for Boko Haram. Buhari always saw fighting Boko as fighting the North. This relocation of Central Command to Borno is not as straightforward as people see it. There's a game plan. We dey watch closely. |
