They consciously do what they do and in their minds, apparently, believe that they are at war with those that they say nasty things about. As it were, they believe that they are engaged in propaganda war and that as such they are entitled to misrepresent the reality of those they believe are their enemies. As they say, at war all is fair game (or is it?).
