Like I asked you earlier are the jews ashamed that they were once slaves to Egypt? You've failed to answer. The Bible stated that they were slaves to them for many years but today they're free. They even went to war with Egypt not too long ago and whooped their asses. The fact is, they're no more slaves today, so are we. I will not be ashamed that my ancestors were once slaves, if true. So keep trying really hard to make, kid. You'll only be wasting your your time and your miserable life.

Where did you see founded by Binis in that write up?
Is your Brain touching ?

It was patterned after Bini Monarchy that is granted, people borrow. Onitsha people if you could hear Igbo and listened to Igwe Achebe interview were Igbos who migrated and lived in ancient Ife.
But over time decided to return home, so on their way back, they stopped first at Bini and then back to Igboland.
In Bini they picked up Bini Monarchical system of Government and added it a touch of Igbo class to produce a hybrid system that is not exactly Bini. Bini also borrowed from them when they were Bini.
That's how Bini borrowed Igbo four market days including the Ikenga cult that you call Ikegobo or something.

No Edo man can interprete Osadebey. Don't be silly.

Western Igboland was in Midwest, and one of them, Chief Dennis Osadebey, who was one of the staunch Igbo Union Leaders and stalwart of NCNC party, became the first premier of the region.
The Midwest Government house, which serve as Edo state government house in Bini today, was named after this illustrious Igbo son from Asaba.

osadebey is 100% an Edo name though meaning something like God averts evil
Lol!

Nope it's not.

Osa de bey = Olisa de be= God should preserve.

In Igboland, we call God Olisa/Olise/Orisa/Orise, depending on your dialect and part of Igboland.

The Osa in Osadebey is an abridged form of Olisa. Just like you have Chuma instead of Chukwuma.

Other Olisa names in Igboland.

Olisakwe=. Osakwe=. if God agrees

Olisaedu=. Osedu (the "a" in Olisa is silent here, we call it "olilo udaume in Igbo language) = God leads.

Okwuolisa= Okwuosa= Gods word

Beluolisa= Boosa = If not for God.

Olisaeloka= Oseloka= God thought very well of me.

Etc.

In these names, Olisa can be replaced with Chukwu to get same meaning.

Like Yorubas that have Olorun, Oluwa, etc .
Igbos have many names for God.

Chukwu, Olisa, Chineke, Obasi, Chiokike, etc.

Despite being impenetrable, majority of slaves in U.S.A today are igbos. Who were raiding and selling out your forebearers?

Don't over hype yourselves, you are a conquered tribe that are still divided. The Igala were running over you from the North..... Don't let me start.
Don't be silly.

Igbos sold criminals among ourselves to Aro chukwu slave traders and their agents.
Sometimes prisoners of wars between two Igbo communities were also sold.
There were also internal Igbo kidnappers ( ndi ntori) who kidnapped people from their farms and sold to slave agents who themselves were Igbos.

Children who were stubborn to parents were sold into slavery by their parents.

Bad uncles dragging their late brothers lands, also sold their late brother children to slavery.

No non Igbo ever ventured into Igboland to capture Igbos and sell. Infact anyone foolish enough to try such would be captured as a slave himself and sold as slave by Igbos. grin

Igalas were well contained and pushed back by Northern Igbos( Nsukka and Northern Anambra groups).

I wonder how they look at this history of subjugating and denying their fellow blacks of their freedom and see it as sign of greatness.
It doesn't make sense.
It is a history one should be ashamed of, and not proud of, if you are a descendant of such people.

Dr Ejiro Imuere from Urhobo land reacts to Reno Omokri's assertion on the Itsekiris and slave trade:

In response to Reno Omokri's Post this morning that Ancient Itsekiris used the Igbos of old as Slaves, I had to write this...

Fact: Itsekiris did not enslave any specific tribe...People from every tribe in the Niger Delta only sold slaves to the Itsekiri, being the people at the coast before the seashore where the Portuguese camped. You must pass through their lands before you can export your slaves. In fact if you will not sell to them as middlemen, but you want to sell your slaves directly, then you will have to pay them a rent called "comey".. Even the Portuguese paid them this "comey" to anchor their boats in shores of their lands.

But the Itsekiris ENSLAVED THEMSELVES, not others.

Ancient Itsekiri was a highly stratified and class-conscious society. When the Bini Party, led by Ginuwa, arrived and finally settled in Ode Itsekiri, his son Ijijen became Olu. Ginuwa died in Ijalla. The Bini party enslaved some of the aboriginal Itsekiris called "Orulukus".

In 1848, when Olu Akengbuwa died and his 2 possible heirs also died within a space of 8 days leaving him without a successor, these slaves called Orolukus, led by 7 of their leaders, waged a terrible war against the House of the Olu and the Nobles. They succeeded in chasing them out of Ode Itsekiri and the kingdom went into an interregnum.

Princess Dola or Iye fled to Bobi. Diare, Olomu, Eshalomi all fled to a new settlement called the Benin River.

It was the British that restored Ode Itsekiri later around 1888. Then when the British invaded Nana and defeated him in Ebrohimi in 1894, over 5,000 slaves were set free. They fled to Sapele led by Nana's head slave called OGUGBENE. They were warmly received by the head chief of the Okpe people then called Ofotokun who resettled them today in Sapele. While the Sagay family was resettled in Amuokpe by Odjegba.

Most of the 5,000 freed Nana slaves of Ebrohimi who were later settled in Sapele were Itsekiris.

PoliticsRe: How The Bini Used And Sold The Igbos As Slaves For Centuries - Reno Omokri by Ariani: 1:37pm On Jul 23, 2021
Xbobtage:
I am a Riversman, I am not an Ikwerre man. I believe the Ikwerre peoples quest for a new political identity separate from south east igbos makes sense when looked at from the context of rivers state affairs, because the other non igboic tribes were weary of being dominated by igbo people, If the ikwerre people had wrapped themselves with igbo cloth and igbo pride, then the peaceful co existense between them and other minority tribes in rivers state would not have been possible.

Atleast now we can all call ourselves rivers people, as if it were to be a tribe, and one thing we all have in common is that we do not want to be called igbo people as people have been doing to most south south tribes for centuries simply because their grandparents understood igbo. Although there some rivers igbos who have no problem with their igbo identity like the etches, omuma, and oyigbo people. But these are smaller clans and they can afford to do that without creating any imbalance within the state.

Also since also the fulani led nigerian government wanted to stifle the igbo tribe, if the ikwerres stood by their igbo identity then I can assure you all of igbo people would have suffered it. Igbo people have massively benefited from the massive federal presence in Rivers State, If the Ikwerre people had embraced igbo identity, when bayelsa state was being created, I am sure the riverine non igboic tribes of rivers state would have opted to join bayelsa and the government of the day being anti igbo would have granted it and ikwerres and other igboic clans in River state would have been left to form a state, and the oil sector within that state wouldhave been abandoned like the federal government has abandoned oil activity in the south east, and rather oil wells that were closer to rivers state were annexed into Rivers State and drilled as Rivers Oil.

If Nigeria had turned out to be a great country with reasonable leaders, then what the Ikwerre people were doing for their survival and by extension the survival of igboic people in Rivers State is not unreasonable. It is/was all about Survival.

The reason why I and some people from other neutral Rivers tribes are now speaking out is because the Dynamics of the Politics in Nigeria has changed and the trajectory for the country is obviously not what we thought would become of the country barely looking at it from 20 years ago.

As it stands the people who are truly plotting and preparing theirselves to exit from Nigeria are the northerners, which explains the rush to buld railway tracks from lagos (their intended port of use) to Maidugiri and further in many kilometers into Moradi, Niger Republic to the tune of 1.9 Billion dollars. Also the new PIB bill which will give them 30 percent from Oil proceedings to make sure they find oil in their place. If truly these people belived in Nigeria, their people would have been demonstrating in mass by just hearing that 1.9Billion Dollars was about to be spent to build a train track to Niger, that money would transform the north in many other ways.

Buhari was a student of Tafawa Balewa and Aminu Kanu, the aim of these two people was never originally to form an unbreakable country with the south of nigeria, rather it was to take as much as possible from the south and build a true Muslim nation of their own, they said it with their own mouth. This is why all of these events are happening under Buhari and the man is acting deaf. Obviously he is not deaf, he is just playing a script.

If you understand my above sentence, then you will understand the undertones to my write up. Any nigerian minority tribe that is not plotting the survival of their people and bulding bridges at this point will see their people lumped together with a wrong group once this country seizes to exist.

As a person from a small tribe in the creeks in Rivers state, we see the ikwerres as our brothers and fellow Riverians, Where the ikwerre people go is where my people will go, If we are looking at this from a perspective of future surival my people can not follow the some ikwerre in pokeing the southeast igbos, because in honestly these people can easily settle their differences in the future as brothers, and those of us non igbos will now be left out. Amaechi can come and claim that he has always championed igbo issues and always stood with his igbo identity, other notable Ikwerres will come and say the same thing, and people Notable Ikwerres like Uche Okwukwu will come and sing igbo songs and their people will settle theirselves, people like Wike will be asked to issue apologies , matter don die be that, what about those non igboic clans wey follow them?

As Rivers People we have to start placing our state on a neutral ground, just as the people from Akwa Ibom and cross river people are doing to give us a soft landing on future alliances. Thats all I am saying.
Well in same spirit of survival strategy.
When jungle mature, this current Igbo generation will also use Ikwerre and minorities to play our our survival game.
And we will be so ruthless about it, that even the devil will be amazed.

We just hope when the time comes, you all understand and bear with us, afterall, it's all done in same spirit of survival mode.

Thank you.

The Itsekiris were traders, they buy and sell to those in the hinterland, buying slaves and selling to the Portuguese is understandable but they NEVER fought a war and captured slaves, they were under the protection of the Benin Empire.

The Igbos were never a united kingdom, attacking and capturing them were as easy as picking stones from beans.
You are not okay.

No man born of human ever penetrated Igboland and went Scot free.

Igbos had no useless kings that once captured everyone else bows down to the one who captured the king.
It made it hard to defeat Igbos. We had council of elders and leaders of age grades, as well as titled men council who all gather and take decisions.
We were way more advanced than primitive Monarchical societies where one retarded fat king dictated for all man.

Many scholars from intricate studies believe Olaudah Equiano most like is from Edo North from details studies of the topography and traditions of the people he described.

Every Igbo heritage claims are always FULL OF DISPUTES.

"...Two things made the Igbo more susceptible to slave-raiding than other ethnicities.
The first was the Osu caste system, which made many Igbos sell their own kith and kin to others.
The second thing is that the Igbos never united under one king, neither were they willing to submit themselves unquestionably to one person. That made it possible for other smaller ethnicities who had united under one king to raid Igbo villages...Let me even annoy you some more, many of the people in modern-day Onitsha are of Bini origin. In fact, the elite and titleholders of Onitsha have very close consanguinity to the Binis." Reno
There is no link between Bini wall building and the rantings above.
The above is Reno veering off rails as usual.

Lol!
Which Bini people raided Igbo villages? Do we share boundaries with Bini people?

Slave trade in Igboland had nothing to do with Osu cast. Infact Osus escaped slave trade because they were untouchable having been dedicated to the deities.
It made many non Osus jealous even.

Igbo slaves were sold at the bight of Biafra, now bight of Bonny, and has nothing to do with Bini people.
The active people in Igbo slave trade were the Aro and their Ohafia,Abam and Edda mercenaries.
They were all Igbo groups. People sold slaves to them who were mainly criminals or stubborn children, and they took them to Bonny or Calabar to sell.
It had nothing to do with Bini. Bini is inconsequential in Igbo history.
Some Igbos like Onitsha, Enuani and Oguta people who lived in Bini but ran back home when Bini tried to sell them off as slaves or offer them as human sacrifices to their fetish gods, were well welcomed back home where they got security.
