Weah96, in Christ there is no white or black or Jew or slave or master or distinction of persons. He is the God and Creator of all and He loves all without partiality. That is why He came to die for the sins of the whole world.

It makes no difference if He came in a white or black skin. He deserves my love and worship not only for what He did for me which nobody could do but also for the fact that He is my Creator, the one true God.

It looks like you don't read your Bible. Helping the Israelite to commit genocide and you believe He loves without partiality?

It is purely an English word for the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being

Thanks for the attempt. What is it origin? That's what I asked.

I did understand you, are you not the one that ask this question?

The Christian God is a Hebrew God and has a name was called YHWH. The word God means something else from the beginning, why not just call Him YHWH instead of adopting God as His name

So i have given you example of others that also use the universal principle of adoption as long as it is written in their language.

Now you are trying to divert to another thing entirely. You seem not to know the question you want to ask .

Ok, the question was what is the origin of the word "GOD" and what is it meaning? Can you help give an answer now please?
Religion / Re: Where Did The Word “GOD” Originate? by asala1: 2:36pm On Feb 24, 2015
myproperty:

Please tell us its original meaning, if the original meaning is different from the original meaning of the following words: Olodumare/Olorun in Yoruba, Abasi in Ibibio, katonda in buganda tribe of east Africa, god in english etc.

Almost every tribe in the world have a name for their supreme deity and all those tribe after recognizing the true God transfers that name they use for their supreme deity( which on most occasion refer to the god of creation or god of the sky) to the Supreme God and then demote or ignore the then supreme deity. The supreme deity is regarded as having supernatural powers or every other power is subject to it. That is why that name is transferred to the only supreme being YHWH

In English it did not transfer the name rather it differentiated the true God from the lesser god by using a capital G to differentiate it.

Why then did the Qu'ran used the arabic word Ibrahim for Abraham, a peron that existed thousand of years before Islam. The word God is an English word for YHWH same as Abasi, Olorun/Oldumare and Allah. These are names of God in different languages. God is in english, Olorun is yoruba, Abasi is Efik/Ibibio, Chukwu is Ibo.

Maybe you expect the English to abandon the use of their native name for hebrew in English Bible, why use Olorun/Olodumare in Yoruba Bible

You are still not getting it right. God as we know it today is a general name for any deity. My question is what is the origin and the meaning of the world "GOD"? YHWH is the name of an Hebrew God which I don't know the meaning of the name, Olodumare on the other hand is the name of the Yoruba God (literal meaning: ‘owner’). Both of them are entirely different Gods with different Characteristics. For example:

1.YHWH created people in the garden of eden, while Olodumare created his people in ile-ife.

2.YHWH sent Jesus to save the world, Olodumare don't know who Jesus is.

3.YHWH will send people to hell, Olodumare don't care.

4. YHWH has a rival called Lucifer, Olodumare don't.

5. YHWH wants tithe, Olodumare don't., etc.

BTW what do you mean by the true God and what is your yardstick for measuring God?

Stop and think one moment. The name God is not really in the bible. If this is not an English book written by Englishmen, it’s not there; it was added. You are reading a translation. You will also find that God, whether you have a big G, or little g, is not being used in the singular tense, as Eloh or Allah. The beings spoken of in the bible and Koran are the Elohim, the plural of Eloh.

Why will you translate someone's name?

Good questions! I will give my opinion

The word God came from "Gott" in German, which was then turned to "God" in English. You will notice that it is now called "Gosh" in countries like the U.S and Canada.

The word itself has no in-built meaning. However, it could be used as reference to gutt feeling, intuition etc

Thousands of years back there were references made to many Gods. To the ancient people,a god is someone who can do unusual stuff like reading minds, healing, predicting and commanding the respect of a society with mind control and illusions. There were cases of other beings coming to mingle with humanity to teach the how to use spares, make fire, sow cloths, mathematics, astronomy etc Such a person who be seen as a God(big brain) or someone extremely intelligent.

Yahweh was one of so many beings/persons who mingled with humans back in the days. Yahweh had human attributes like walking in the garden, living on the mountain and having the desire for smoked meat without salt on it(burnt offering). Apparently he forced the Israelis to worship him and see him as a God.

Thousands of years after, the Israelis somehow influenced the Europeans with their stories of Yahweh and him being a "Supreme God" forcefully converted the Europeans,North America,South American and Africans to this Yahweh impersonation of a God.

But for those of us who are smart enough to smell the foul play, Yahweh isn't more of a God than we are. WE ALL ARE EQUAL and co creators.

Thanks, at least you tried to educate me.

I understand the purpose of topic and the comparison of the word God and the word Allah. It is good that you brought this up.

Firstly the name God or god are purely English words, i hope you do not expect the English to use another language's name for the true God in their dialect. Most of English words are derived from Anglo- Saxon and old Germanic words. Then the word God refers to the true God, while the word god( note with small letter g) refers to those of idols. Now in most native languages there is a thin difference between the idolatry god and the true God in inception( i mean before and in the advent of Christianity and Islam).

For your information, the only tribe or race that have a direct name for God and it is not a derived name are the Jews and possible the Arabs since they exist side by side with the Jews.

Now coming to the term Allah, did you find out the origin of the word? No, i guess you did not. You just don't wake-up and want to condemn a faith you don't belong or like and want to make your own look unique and superior.
The term Allah was already in use before the advent of Islam, the Arabic Christians and Jewish Arabs were already using Allah for the true God before the coming of the prophet of Islam.

Origin of the word Allah: Allah is an Arabic word used in referring to the true God. The word Allah according to some scholars was derived from the name of the Arabic deity of the moon god. This is not the point I am driving at because this may not be true( because some have countered that position).

What I am driving at is that the fact is that the term Allah itself was used by the Christian Arab and Jewish Arabs before Islam adopted it, it was not originally Islam. Why in context of your question, did the Muslims adopt the name of the Arabic Christian God?

http://www.arabicbible.com/for-christians/1810-the-word-allah-and-islam.html

http://www.answering-christianity.com/allah6.htm

http://allahumma..com/

You are getting it all wrong. I am not even a Muslim. BTW the work Allah literary means "The God" Arabic.
The Christian God is a Hebrew God and has a name was called YHWH. The word God means something else from the beginning, why not just call Him YHWH instead of adopting God as His name. For example in yoruba spirituality, Sango is Sango and Olodumare is Olodumare, just as my name is asala1 and you just don't choose to call me another name cause it is convenient for you.

Another example is the name Jesus, was that His name from the beginning in the Hebrew or people just adopted the name Jesus because it is convenient. If the name of the messiah is to be as potent and was given by God as we believe, why change the name to Jesus?

Obasanjo is Obasanjo even in Japan, Ebele is Ebele even in China and Ban Ki-Moon is Ban Ki-moon even in Yoruba.

My question again, Where does the word "GOD" originate from and what was its original meaning?

You are very sick and you don't know it. You are evil with a mindset like this, people's kids were kidnapped into sex slaves and all you could do is to blame it on some random people cause the presidency don't want to take responsibility. How the hell will a president of a country wait for almost 2 weeks before he was ascertain these kids were actually kidnapped? That to the whole world is gross incompetency, there is no blame shift that can wash that away. No one is supporting evil but saying the truth the as it is a bitter thing for sycophants like you.

Religion / Is The World Getting More Peaceful Or More Violent? by asala1: 6:26am On Feb 24, 2015
Our believe is that the world is getting more violent by the day as it fulfil our religious prophesies but when we look at it critically from history, we can observe that the world is actually getting more peaceful. Countries tends to solve issues more civil now than engaging in unnecessary wars. For example, Europe is more peaceful in the last 40 years or so as compared to before. Even in Nigeria, there has been several more violent wars before now such as the Usman Danfodio Jihad, Kiriji war, etc. Not to talk of slavery, Cannibalism and other violent things the world was exposed to.

You can have your say.

God regretted creating man. but the father of Israel was a very good friend of God, God made a promise to him and God's words can't return to him void. so He made sure He kept his promise to Abraham. but glory be to God, Jesus has paid the ultimate price, we are all now sons of God as long as you love God and keep his commandments. and God's love for His children are equal. it's now left to you to understand Him and stop living a pitiable life out of ignorance.

after the incident at the tower of babel, don't you think God must have altered the genes of these people that went their separate ways to match the weather conditions of the places they found themselves? if God could transform king Nebuchadnezzar into pig, don't you think God might have tranformed chickens into girls that satisfied these men, especially those lonely ones? "I" believe the different climate conditions and race became an issue because men allowed themselves to be decieved by satan. these things(race, snow, heat, rain etc) were made by God and everything that is made by God is perfect.

Let assume God created everyone, why is it that God love some people (The Hebrew people) more than others and was willing to destroy them? If the Israelites were passing through Nigeria during the exodus, do you believe they will destroy the country?

The salt shall be used to sprinkle on thy wound which thee sustained during the flogging, ye shall experience pain, but the demon in thee shall receive a double of whatever pain ye shall experience.

Religion / Re: Nine Reasons Why You Should Tithe by asala1: 4:13pm On Feb 16, 2015
robosky02:

i hope you really read that passage yourself:

ok let me take from there

1. the tithe belongs to God and you should truely tithe all of it.

22 "You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year

2. in thier time they were agrarians thus it easy for them to take from thier farm produce to give thier tithe. but our days we do differnet jobs and the economy is based on money.thus we can give our tithe in monetary value. in fact from that same scripture they were told to even exchange thier farm produce if they cant carry it. and pay with money

24 But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the Lord your God has blessed you, 25 then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses

3. the tithe is to be brought to the house of God (the store house ) or the local church were you are feed Gods word NOT to give to any pastor as you wish.

You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you. 28 "At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates. 29 And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

4 the reason for the tithe is that God will bless you

it is 10% of all your income given to God as your covenant accees to the blessing

from that same scripture if you look at the last verse. the reason for the tithe was given

if you go to

Malachi 3:10New International Version (NIV)
10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

the reason is given again.......... that God will bless you

so if anyman give tithe or not you have not done any thing to the pastor its up to you

"that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do."

29 And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

You are a bloody lair and a fraud! Why not finish that verse 22-28. What is tithe there for? Is it to be eaten? and by who?

Do you think there is no money then? if you believe there is no money, then you need to read your bible again. The problem with Christians is that they can use any fraud means to backup their dealings. It's so sad.

Tell me which Christian community has done anything in Nigeria. Then tell me which Christian community is as financially buoyant as the Gates or is in competition with them. BTW, i didn't know that asking you for what you are doing to help the needy is attacking you. What facts did i avoid?

You don't get the point, do you? The question was: "Can one be good without God?" I believe in God and yes, people can be good without God. I gave you an example of the Gates' contribution to humanity without believing in any god. You don't need any religion to be good, its a choice you make. I met a French girl sometimes back that spend most her summer break in refuge camps in Africa and Asia as a volunteer to help teach and cater for displaced kids. I asked her one day about her believe in a god and she told me she doesn't believe in any god. I asked her her reason, she told me never had about any god until she was 11 years old and she didn't bother learning about it. Is she a good person? From the little months I spent with her, I believe she is one of the best person I have met in my life time. I even aspire to be like her in selfless service, I believe in God and she doesn't. Does she need a god to be good? NO.

This exactly what Christians don't agree. Even though religion encourages people to be good, people can be good for different reason without God. You make a mockery of yourself and religion when you try to force these things on people.
