houvest:

At the bolded, why do folks come and make claims without any backups and expect everyone to accept them as gospel? Why not say that that was your belief or observation instead of writing it as fact.
Apga started as an Igbo party and was actually founded by Chekwas Okorie from Abia. In their first outing in 1999, they are believed to have won the five SE states except perhaps Abia. The longdrawn out fight bw Chekwas and Umeh sapped APGA so much that they could not sustain the fight through the courts and in 2003, they performed creditably in the SE but not as well as in 99. However, the infighting in Anambra PDP helped APGA to focus on the State and with the help of Ikemba and Obi went up to the Supreme court to recover the state from PDP's Ngige. PDP's rigging in Anambra was exposed by the perpetrator himself (Ubah) to showcase how PDP snatched the other SE states and beyond from other parties ( especially APGA in the SE and AD in the SW)

APGA is in a state of recovery with many respectable SE politicians finding their home there and with their deal with Jonathan for, among other things, a free and fair election in exchange for their presidential position, many SE states may go back to APGA in the Governorship elections if Jonathan holds up his own end of the bargain.

As for Imo state, many Okigwe sons are the ones rooting for Rochas.
Each of the three senatorial zones have held the position so Okigwe is not being cheated. They have actually gone twice through Mbakwe( 4 years and 3 months) and Ohakim( 4) years. Owerri is the only zone that has gone only 2 years ( Evan Enwerem) and should be the ones crying zoning not Okigwe. Okigwe people prefer good governance to ordinary bragging rights of their son being the governor because of Ohakim's gangster style of governance and a similiar style expected of Ararume. I do not believe that Rochas will lose because he is from Orlu since people are going to vote for the best candidate and not on the grounds of zoning. There is a groundswell of support for him in Imo and several polls have put him ahead of the other contenders. I will post the polls when I get hold of the online version since I have only the Newspaper version.

as for the first bolded when did that happen?

at the second bolded which okigwe sons?

Abagworo:

I personally would have loved to see Rochas there but we Igbos say "Uka akparakpa Isi ka eji ekwe ya".So the rotation agreement deserves to be honored for the good of us all.

If elected Ararume will out-perform Ohakim though.

man imo is suffering and you are talking about good of us all.good in terms of clear fraudlent guy and another itching to take over all in the name of zoning?

yeah ararume will outperfom ohakim just the way in your dreams.i do not think you know ararume's reputation.

Kobojunkie:

I don’t buy that for one minute. We are talking of Nigeria where your reputation is enough for people to vote for or against you. Ibori and other stealing southerners did not have to give speeches up north for people in the north to tie their names with corruption.
Like I said of Fashola, a speech is not necessary, and I certainly believe same applies, maybe to Amaechi.

as for first bolded yeah just like nigerians voted for abiola after the ITT saga.

yeah speech is not necessary.he will sit his ass down in lagos(for fashola) or portharcourt(for amaechi) and win elections in gombe.

as for ibori you cannot ascertain how he is viewed there since he was pencilled down for vp or presido.
Politics / Re: ACN-Ribadu/Ngige, How Feasible? by asha2: 1:41am On Feb 15, 2011
Kobojunkie:

I mean people in surrounding states like Imo -- states in the SE.Yes, places beyond the SE is what I term National Fashola does not need to go to the north to address a crowd there, because he gets exposure enough that folks in the North know his name , what state, and of him. Same applies to Amaechi at this point. I have friends in Plateau, and even Abuja who know of Amaechi's reputation of being a hardworker in the Niger Delta.

having friends means nothing here.let him go and adress a crowd (probably mobilized by strong northern politicians) and let the crowd warm up to him then i will know how much antional appeal he has.all these 'he is doing well so and media is there to help him' holds no water.just like donald duke.
Politics / Re: ACN-Ribadu/Ngige, How Feasible? by asha2: 1:36am On Feb 15, 2011
Kobojunkie:

I really doubt that considering conversations I have had with friends down in Nigeria who themselves are not online.

who probably read papers.until he goes to the north and address a crowd in the north and the crowd warm up to him then i will now be conviced he has national appeal.

PhysicsMHD:

Yeah, Okadigbo was nationally known, but it's probably a good thing he never got a higher position that he did, since he was corrupt. You're right, he had strong Northern connections.

if nigerian presidents and vp have not been corrupt nigeria would have been in a better shape probably by now.

Kobojunkie:

I Still maintain it was necessary, and have explained the Why!
Explain how you feel it contradicts the first or earlier . . .

Go to streets of cities and states where you have highest readership and you will find he is known, for instance Lagos, Abuja, Owerri, Enugu, Delta. We are speaking of places and people who are up to date on media reports, and have access to national TV Channels(even local )and newspapers, even if not a lot of the population do.

at first bolded

PhysicsMHD:

Who is Chris Ngige?

By that I mean, is he really known on the national level, like Fashola, Amaechi, etc?

Kobojunkie:

NO! I would venture to say that the lack of exposure, beyond the local level/region, is a bigger reason why Ibo politicians still aren't as accepted, and popular, as their Northern/SW-tern counterparts at the National level. Ethnic hate plays a lesser role IMO.

Well, He is being picked to run on a national platform so I would guess, Ribadu did not just pick him simply because he is popular in Anambra. I would venture to say that many outside of Anambra even remember him.

when you say people in outside anambra remeber him who are you talking about?

#as for the second bolded so those places translates to national?

has amaechi gone to the north to address a crowd there and the crowd warmed up to him like someone of national appeal would have?
Politics / Re: ACN-Ribadu/Ngige, How Feasible? by asha2: 1:21am On Feb 15, 2011
PhysicsMHD:

I think Amaechi's efforts in Rivers are nationally known; at least in the south, anyways.

that is for internet folks and few newspaper readers.

you want to know what national appeal is?it is by going to the streets.

not sure if average northern nigerians know who amaechi is.
Politics / Re: ACN-Ribadu/Ngige, How Feasible? by asha2: 1:19am On Feb 15, 2011
Kobojunkie:

Amaechi is linked more to the South-South than to the SE. Also, his popularity stems mainly from the fact that he, again like Fashola, the role the media plays in helping cement a politicians reputation, especially outside of his locale.

That Amaechi has been able to build for himself a reputation as a performing governor,
shows that the death of Zik really holds little against SE politicians getting the exposure they need to better compete at the national level, IMO. Definitely, this exposure can work both ways -- Ibori, Alams, Igbinedion etc.

I don't believe Ribadu did his homework either. I think if he had picked Soludo, he would have had a better chance(not that I am a Soludo fan but at least the man is known beyond his homeland).

tv and internet appeal is diferent from 'real negotiation appeal' of the likes of abiola, obj, atiku? and even ekwueme.

it is like saying donald duke has national appeal becaause of what he supposedly did in crossriver state.
Politics / Re: ACN-Ribadu/Ngige, How Feasible? by asha2: 1:15am On Feb 15, 2011
Kobojunkie:

It is needed because there are those out there who believe that the main reason why Ibo politicians are not popular at the National level is because of some HATE of the ethnic group. I don't buy that argument one bit.

Well, He is being picked to run on a national platform so I would guess, Ribadu did not just pick him simply because he is popular in Anambra. I would venture to say that many outside of Anambra even remember him.

It is no secret that Amaechi, like Fashola, has used the media to get his name, and work known outside of his state, and region.
There are probably more people out there who haven't been to Port harcourt in recent years but have heard that the governor is doing well, than there are those who have heard of the work Chime is doing in Enugu, I say this because there seems to be more reports coming out of Rivers states than from Enugu.

as for the first bolded that i maintain my stance that it is not needed.knowing Physicsmhd he was clearly interested whether he is known nationwide like Fashola (due to media) and not any ethnic hate of a thing.you can battle those who think that way.

as for the second bolded does that not contradict your earlier NO?

The ameachi popularity is for interent folks and those few readers of newspapers in nigeria.go to the streets of kaduna, kano, markudi and talk about ameachi.

not sure that was needed nor did he ask about that.

secondly i doubt ngige was picked for national appeal rather than sectional appeal.

PhysicsMHD:

Who is Chris Ngige?

depends on what you mean by known 'national level' for someone like amechi.

so if he is an igbo teacher in these towns schools apart from the written igbo we know what should he use to teach them?i think it is not easy find a 'solution' to this .

What most people have failed to understand is that APGA is an Anambra party not the entire Igbo. They have zero influence in any other SE state.

As for Rochas,he is definitely going to loose because he is from Orlu.Orlu has to wait for 12 years to produce another Governor.Any Governor for 2011 must be from Okigwe zone and 2015-2023 from Owerri zone.

that means those from imo state should say goodbye to good governance for another 4 years since we are stuck with araraume and ohakim.

look the issue of written igbo is just for reading and a bit of literature and not necessarily spoken.the preservation of a dialect of igbo depends on the people that speaks that dialect.

i am sure people here do not know that the written german you see is based more on the dialect spoken in hannover axis.people from bavarian region( where munich is the capital and largest city) speaks a different kind of german that someone that was born and brought up in hamburg might not be able to understand up to 60%.

i understand achebe's point of view but he(as a literature great) did not give a solution of how eg someone from Ogidi will write(not necessarily speak) what an Afikpo person will comprehend.

Every Igbo need to read this article. My reason is that I have come to discover that many people consider the spoken Igbo of today as the real Igbo whereas it was manufactured by fusing many dialects to create a new language. Many people have lost their dialects and are ignorant of this fact.

not entirely true.the more common igbo you keep hearing is more of springing up of cosmopilitan igbo cities and towns rather than voluntary manufacture of a new language you are trying to paint here.

Damn I like this thread already. . .sometimes I fuss over the fact that I was raised in Lagos. I just started coming to terms with the need to identify with my igbo origin. Even though Dad and Mum were in the habit of speaking in igbo language to us when communicating, it is still a shame I cant speak it fluently with the proficiency of an eastern bred igbo. Am making efforts anyway, even though sometimes I just miskogbio the thing when I encounter difficulty when speaking it to my granny . . Lol. Good thing is my Parent ensured we all went to higher institutions here in the east and it has really helped me to understand many things about our culture, tradition and varying dialects. Like for instance, Popsi speaks Owerri with mad precision that my Anambra neighbor back in Lagos always listens in awe and laughter, they sometimes say things to make him talk only to their entertainment. You know there is sth smooth and cheesy about the owerri dialect that makes you just wanna listen, I mean hearing an Owerri man like my dad lost in that dialect can be as smooth to the ears as ice water dripping down an icycle. You know the 'ishi ni ni' i wu o la(do u understand) and so on. . . However, when it comes to names mehn, I am a sucker for the anambra varients for instance imo-ihunanya, Anambra-Ifunanya, ifeoma, iheoma, Tochi,Tochukwu,Ogechi and Ogechukwu. Another dialect of note is that of Nekede, I notice them say uyor for ulo and so on. . . . . By the way, which of the igbo varients is the acceptable standard in literature writing and general communication? I once had that arguement with a coleague and he insisted it was the NCI as many of thier scholars dominate igbo literature anyway. Guys what do you think?

the igbo they teach in primary and secondary school is based more on the dialect spoken around umuahia axis.

Elections: Politicians selling property to raise campaign funds – Investigation
By Samson Echenim
Wednesday, 9 Feb 2011

Life is gradually returning to the Nigerian real estate market after a two-year lull, thanks to some politicians, who have reignited passion in property transactions as a result of the forthcoming elections.

However, unlike in the past when well-oiled politicians and political office holders would buy up any available choice property on offer in apparent display of wealth, real estate players have said a lot of them are putting some of their real assets up for sale in order to raise enough money for electioneering.

Our correspondent gathered that there had been an increase in the number of briefs received by estate agents from politicians to sell off some choice properties.

@miss cork or whatever you call your name. I understand that when your mother was in the business of prostitution God worked out miracle for you to be born b4 she got infected by the popular thing. Now that you are managed to be raised by philanthropist, you don't know how precious are fathers and mothers are to their children thats why at every slightest opportunity you insult them. Now i will not insult your mother because she had enough of life already as for father, you don't know who fathered you for sure either the short term customer or overnight we don't know so lets keep that aside.

I went for night vigil in the church we were surrounded by armed robbers. in another instance the whole city of Abakaliki was held to ransom by these armed robbers they were going from bank to on Sam Egwu formally Ogoja Road. In Ishieke Campus where my girlfriend was and i used to visit her every weekend killings were rampants and you're talking killings in the north. I don't for once subscribe to the killing of human beings no matter what happened. In 2008 Ezza and Ezilo people clashed which  has claimed more than 600 lives with property worth more than N1 billion destroyed are these abokis NO of course they are Igbos. But what continue to amaze is the way you igbos think  that killing is only in the north and therefore all northerners are killers, dumbs, ignorants and i
I know Igbos very well because i schooled in the East UNN to be precise and when you are talking of backwardness go to Ebonyi you will see it.lliterate and i know i have seen the worst illiterates in the east during my stay there as a student and please if people are talking of intelligence don't even think of igbos being the best because like in every other tribe there are brights and dullards igbos.

I brought this topic, i went to service my car and there was an Igbo guy there and was asking the same question i asked and he said so many bad stuff about Igbos , which i don't intend to pass those info here i my fiance who is an Igbo and she could not provide an answer. Its surprising to see how unintelligent igbos are full on this from instead of addressing the issue raised, you are busy insulting people thats further reveals how insensitive you guys are. there is no day on this forum that Northerners will not be either ridicule or insulted and many of them start insulting people here. I STILL ASK CAN IGBOS EVER BE UNITED?

first and foremest what has supposed backwardness of ebonyi have to do with the unity of igbos?

secondly i have met a hausa guy that stayed near my family in owerri that said that he will never stay in the ama hausa in owerri(if you went to unn then you should know what ama means) because he felt his people are backwards in their thinking.is it now right for me to say say hausas are not united?

by the way when you say united is it based on what really?unity to do what exactly?

as for illiteracy it is a well known fact that the illiteracy level in the core northern nigeria is like a cancer that comparing what you supposedly saw in ebonyi is just child's play to the plague you guys have up in the core north.

Boko Haram strikes again in Borno, kills 4

Thursday, 20 January 2011

RESIDENTS of Dala Alemderi ward in Maiduguri metropolis were again thrown into confusion on Tuesday between 6.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m., following the killing of four people by suspected members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the gunmen came on a motorcycle and fired some shots into the air to scare the people before they went ahead to open fire on four innocent citizens.Nigerian Tribune gathered that one Dr Michael, a member of Deeper Life Bible Church, Bullumkuttu, was killed in his shop, as well as one Obinna and his brother, who were also patent medicine sellers in the community. A certain Mr James was also said to have been shot in the back while about entering Obinna’s shop to buy medicine.

Nigerian Tribune spoke with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Lawal Abdullahi on phone and he said that he also heard of the incident but that he could not speak on the situation as the police were still waiting for report on the incident from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.

Meanwhile, the area has been deserted as people, particularly Christians living around Dala Alemderi, told the Nigerian Tribune that most of the attacks in Dala Alemderi of late were targeted at them, and as such, they felt they were no longer safe.

Attempts to get the Borno State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

ACN aspirants in Osun protest imposition of candidates

| Print | E-mail

Written by Tunde Oyekola Thursday, 20 January 2011

Aspirants who are contesting elections into the Osun State House of Assembly and Houes of Representatives on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Osun State, on Wednesday, staged a protest on the alleged imposition of candidates by the leadership of the party.

The aspirants, who were armed with placards, condemned the alleged picking of candidates that would contest the April 2011 general election without allowing the aspirants to go through primary elections as stipulated in the party’s constitution and 2010 Electoral Act.

Some of the placards displayed by the aspirants and their supporters read: “We say no to imposition of candidates in ACN; imposition is not true democracy; unpopular candidate can’t deliver for us in Osun State; let there be primary election in Osun; let peace reign in Osun; ACN aspirants in Osun want primaries for house of assembly, House of Representatives and Senate,” among others.

But the director of research and publicity, Honourable Sunday Akere, said that the aspirants had no case, as they had already signed an undertaking not to challenge any decision of the party.

Addressing a press conference at the NUJ Press Centre, Osogbo, some of the aspirants said that they were surprised when they saw the names of candidates pasted on the notice board of the party secretariat last Saturday without the conduct of primary elections for aspirants who underwent screening between January 9 and 12.
