true2god: Nigeria has no way forward but a way backward,as long as the Nigeria institution remains 'one'.
The pple of the varios regions that make of the entity should realise this. Peaceful dissoltion of this union should be sought (tho' thats almost impossible), but im seeing a long and proctated civil war in the horizon except God intervenes in this country.
Nothig is workin in this country, from education to infrscture to security, energy, tansportation e.tc. the country will be better manage if all the component states will be allowed to take decisions that affect their destiny, and not from Abuja.
Germany of 1850 is better than NIgeria of 2010.
Big shame to this British-made country!!! Can you prove that |

Katsumoto: Copycat syndrome Laziness Focusing on vocations that only bring financial rewards - Everyone wants to be a lawyer, doctor, engineer, banker, etc. Vacationing in mainly anglo-saxon nations (UK, US). Nigerians go on holiday just to shop. While you will see many Nigerians on Oxford street in London or on 5th Avenue in New York, you will rarely find them in the Louvre or the Antonin Dvorak Museum in Prague. When you find Nigerians in other parts of the world, they are there for economic reasons (buying merchandise or economic migrants).
One dimensional recreation (having multiple girlfriends and children) - Europeans, Aussies, etc travel the world backpacking, learning about other cultures, and also volunteering. Our selfish mind-set stops us from exploring the world. I know people who can not leave Nigeria for more than 3 days because they will be cheated by others in business transactions, etc. What kind of a life is that?
Take a look at Eastern europeans who are bilingual, appreciate art and classical music but are not so wealthy. By focusing only on money and its concommitant ability to make us stand out in society results in generations who are rich but unenlightened. Not being charitable.
There are many other reasons but the above easily come to mind. When we change our mindset as a people, our country will be better. You have summarized what i have been thinking for sometime.A nigerian might a masters or even PHD holder but still remain unelightened and yes nigeria (apart from ethnicsm, corruption, indisipline and what not) is doomed with the kind of mindset we have. |

RichyBlacK: 1. MEND (possibly working with other progressive groups) should, in a surprise coordinated multiple-target operation, detonate high explosives, at least the equivalent of one kiloton of TNT, against every oil facility in the Niger-Delta and beyond, with the objective of minimizing civilian casualties.
2. All the multinational oil companies will prepare to fold up and leave Nigeria.
3. Nigeria's oil output should come to zero and the reign of the kleptocracy will come to a screeching halt.
4. The ensuing anarchy and strife will render the government useless and the military will seize the opportunity, though not willingly - no oil and the politicians would have looted the treasury clean.
5. The US military will send marines to monitor the situation to prevent the Chinese or Russians from stepping in.
6. The confused and overwhelmed military will do all it can to prevent the break up of Nigeria by instituting martial law.
7. Under pressure from world leaders and with constrained motivation to rule a pauperized Nigeria, the military will call for a sovereign national conference (SNC).
8 The blame game will commence, and many of the culprits (all the thieves we know very well) will be blamed for the actions of MEND. They will try to escape and leave the country.
9. Attempts by the military to punish MEND by burning villages and murdering civilians will be foiled on two fronts: (i) The Igbos, the largest ethnic group in combined SE and SS zones, will refuse to cooperate with the Nigerian military in its genocidal plans against the people of the SS. (ii) US naval ships off the Bight of Biafra (aka Bight of Bonny) will restrict the military exercise of the Nigerian navy. The US Navy will claim her right to remain off shore on possible humanitarian grounds, should there be another crisis after the massive explosions that knocked out 99% of Nigeria's oil production.
10. It is at that SNC that the fate of Nigeria will be discussed and the nature of the government, her powers, limitations and composition deliberated.
Outside that, I see no change in Nigeria's familiar march to nothingness. |

Where do your loyalties and sentiments lie? Are you not African?
Swahili is in place of English, so that in official matters e.g official language of a country that doesn't have an official African language. How come they did not adopt a single language as their national language. Look the issue still boils down to the mish mash countries in africa. In a seperate yoruba country that comprises of lagos, ondo, ogun, oyo, ekiti and osun don't u think it would be easy to make yoruba as the national language which is african? |

Politics › Re: Yoruba In Kwara, Kogi Agitate For Oya State by asha80(m): 2:07pm On Mar 05, 2010 |
Jarus: I don't have any problem with we Yoruba speaking northerners(Kwara and Kogi) coming together to form a state and come and joined to our brothers in the South West, but I have a number of issues to raise.
1, The first division will come from the name of the state. Oya is the Yoruba name for river Niger(I think). The Okun people of Kogi(Kabba and co) have been clamouring for Okun statefor long. The Offa people have been clamouring from Ibolo state for some time. We have three names here now, and I don't know how they will agree.
2, Another fierce division will come from the state capital. Offa and Kabba are two candidates for that but the latter have greater advantage being a province pre-independent. But I know my Offa people, they will rather prefer to remain under Ilorin than serving one Kabba again. Another wahala.
3, Another problem I foresee is the struggle for dominance. The Okun people of Kogi, Ibolo and Igbomina people of Kwara have strong history of rivalry right from their days as Kwara south before the creation of Kogi. I especially know my Offa people with their agidi. I'm afraid they may be strange fellows.
4, More serious agitations like Ibadan and Oke-Ogun states have not seen teh light of the day. It may take not a few decades before it gets to our turn.
5, As somebody stated earlier, instead of state creation, boundary adjustment may solve the problem.
If asked to say honestly my mind, I will say we are still day dreaming! Is ilorin not inside the area of agitation for 'oya state' |

A lot of people in the middle belt (northern minorities) bear names like Usman, Bala, Ibrahim, Abdul, etc, and yet they are not hausas. please stop living in the past when northerners believed that everybody from the east was igbo and everybody from the north was hausa. Nzeogwu is an igbo name, but his people today refuse to be called igbos. Igbo speaking part of Delta state are not igbos they have their own identity, like Ika and ukwani. Open your brain man and stop living in Nigeria of 1960. Onlytruth: Why North is skeptical of Jonathan’s Acting Presidency
Going by recent development in the polity, there is no doubt that the on- going power play at Aso rock over the plight of ailing President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has angered the Northern elite who were convinced of ‘hi_tech conspiracy’ to rig the Hausa/Fulani dominated conservative region out of power through the back door.
The emotions are high, and one can smell the hatred on the streets and cities of the Northern region. The reasons are not far fetched. It is borne out of the fear founded on what the Northern elites have come to identify as a ‘false start’ by the Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who was conferred with presidential powers by the federal legislatures some weeks ago.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/03/04/why-north-is-skeptical-of-jonathans-acting-presidency/ On a more serious note if the bolded above is true and not a media propaganda then every southerner up in the core north should better arm himself to the teeth to prevent a repeat of the Araba 66 |

ezeagu: So why be against Swahili if you are aware of the sentiments hindering African unity? There are little to no African countries with African languages as official languages, if these countries are so unorganized or unprogressive enough to make one of their languages official, like the United Kingdom, why not bring another African language that millions of people already speak, instead of English. I really don't understand what the arguments against Swahili is, is it that English is a superior language? Ezeagu if i may ask what is the official language of switzerland?i have a reason for this question. |
