gbosaa: Where did you get this from? "So what is 4 that he can't afford after four years of hustling in London"?
Let's do some maths. Taxi drivers make between £500-£800 a week, let's assume his is very lucrative driving football players to trainings and stuff. He will make up to £1000. That's £26000-£52000 a year. He has to pay the taxi company every week, but fuel, insurance, pay house rent and other domestic expenses.
So you think he could save N10m or around £30k-£40k per year after expenses. Mind you he has to pay tax. So after four years, assuming he landed from Heathrow and started his cab business the following day having mastered all the driving routes from surfing the net in Nigeria or with the aid of his sat nav,He could save N40m or £130k-£135k after hustling for four years?? You are making too much sense oh. Apparently he does not eat or wear any clothes in this 4 year period. |

tobimillar: I read thru every bit of it and first I must say it a wonderful write up and I am disappointed at nairalander's asking for summary above.. please u guys should learn to read.
@topic isn't it funny that a taxi driver in UK is able to build a house in lekki... that is the reason everybody wants to travel even when they know it's not going to be easy. A graduate working in civil service or even doctors can't build house in lekki except they do illegal runs or have other private businesses No it's not because driving a taxi or working in the civil service in UK cannot buy him a house in Mayfair or other prestigious places. Driving a taxi or working in the civil service in NY will not give you a penthouse in SOHO and the same goes for Nigeria. |
Politics › Re: Wrong Perceptions About Fg's Fight Against Corruption by Askseek(f): 3:46am On Oct 04, 2015 |
DanG1: Hello All, I have been an ardent follower of Nairaland for a while but had been on the reading and consumption part. But today I felt there is a need to address some wrong perception on the war against corruption by the President Buhari led FG. (Warning: Am not a very good writer)
Everyday I keep reading that President Buhari's corruption campaign is one way, is partial or is a witch-hunting affair, but you should all know that the officials you are seeking the FG to interrogate are not directly related to Presiddent Buhari's objectives for now. The President has always made it known that he is after the country's treasury looters, he has not named any names, he has not made any allegations against any person or persons. So it pains me to see Nigerians claiming he is witch hunting or after some group of people and not others.
The President Buhari Led FG is after people who have served the country in the Federal level and those that directly affects his office. You are all asking him to Probe Amaechi, Fashola, Tinubu, Obasanjo etc. He has made it clear his fight against corruption is focused on his immediate predecessors and not those before. That means he will only be focusing on the Ex-President Jonathan led Administration, you all should know that the task of going after the immediate past Government alone can take up the whole 4 years, so how do you expect him to go way back to 1999? Knowing fully well he might not be able to achieve any other goal if he has to do this? Please let's respect the President and just sit back and watch him work rather than distracting him.
To the issue of probing Amaechi or Fashola, you all should understand that these ex-Governors are not directly related to the FG's office and should and can be probed by those in their respective offices now. Wike has been after Amaechi and that for me should be enough and we should call on Ambode to go after Fashola and not the FG because their positions are not directly related to his office.
Please let's us all wake up, be objective. let us try to join hands to make sure that Nigeria grows and not acting in ways make this government fail.
One love to you all
CC: @Tonyebarcanista @Passingshot and all other progressives and chief wailers You make way too much sense here. |

He is a hustler too, into business and other things to support his mom as dad is late and he is the only son, two sisters long been married so mom stays alone with a grandchild. Just heard that he got caught months back in India with drugs and has been jailed. He is looking at 15 years hmm. What do you advice her to do because time may not be on her side as a woman though she is still in pains and refuses to leave the guy's mother's side. If she is your sister, what do you think? Very responsible lady she is tho. A responsible woman engaged to a drug dealer. Abeg, make una no dey mislabel people. She should move on and truly be responsible this time around. |

Gboliwe: TBH, the more posts you make, the more my eyebrows are raised. I sincerely don't understand why you don't see the urgency in your wife's condition. Why something as trivial as the doctor's feelings should bother you at this time. Anyway, our make-up is different. I thought it was just me. Obviously the situation is not as urgent as the op painted it, if they cannot make a decision because you don't want to hurt the Dr feelings or so it won't look one kain then so be it. Which one be my own. I included the wife because I cannot understand how a woman in labor who has been told she needs a c-section just lays there waiting for when all d money will be raised. What if it takes 2 weeks? It's not all about money. A wise man manages and maximises the resources he has at his disposal. I will put them in my prayers. As you have said we are different and I need to stop using my standards as a yardstick for others. |

dont8: I'll definitely take that decision tomorrow, but fund is the main issue right now. Do you have a problem with the govt. hospital which will be more affordable for you? Why is it taking 48hrs to decide? In the meantime the life of your wife & child hangs in d balance. Hmmm |
Family › Re: Thanks TeHN by Askseek(f): 9:06pm On Sep 21, 2015 |
dont8: Thanks askseek, not that I'm not showing any sign of urgency but simply following the Doctor's directive which is tomorrrow. I truly do not mean to browbeat you here but I cannot understand all this and your wife is still home. You went to the doctor in the morning and he told you to bring her tomorrow based on what assessment? You say she is not doing well and has some sort of discharge which may or may not indicate there is a problem but how can anyone determine that if they don't see her. You refuse to take her to the govt. hospital. You live in Ogun State so we r not talking of the boondocks here. Something about this does not smell/sound right. I pray things work out for you guys but heaven helps those who help themselves and you and your wife need to do the right thing for yourselves in this matter. |

dont8: I went to the hospital early this morning to see the Doctor but unfortunately I didn't meet him but met the Matron on duty before I went to work. I told her my wife was discharging substance believed to be mucous with blood and she said that's the more reason we should not waste further time. But I don't know how tell him, if at all I'm going to be moving her to government hospital at the end of the day. Do u get the sense of urgency here. Take her to the government hospital. The internet cannot do justice to what I would like to say. She is overdue and in need of surgery. You have one opinion and cost u cannot afford. Instead of seeking alternative you keep her home while looking for money. Is that the only doctor in your town. When u first posted this u were advised to take her to the government hospital and you are yet to do so. If this goes wrong then everyone will start to moan about the healthcare system and not the couple who delay. |

mutter: Let me and we you briefly because I really am between two doors. Young lady do you expect me to splash my documents here. Documents I obtained 27 years ago!!!! Asking for much aren't you .. I never mentioned I was a lawyer on this thread. So if someone has been stung to look it up...how do react. ? Besides this is common sence and general knowledge. THIS is not an issue of right or wrong . This is a case of owing or not. If the hospital has a claim let them consult their lawyers. They can obtain a judgment that can be enforced in Nigeria . Owing is not a criminal offence. The court looks at what they can obtain from you and how you can pay Does she have a car worth 17000 pounds! So what. It is not a luxury when you have five kids to have a roadworthy car. She needs at least a seven seater. Can you buy a new car at that amount? No court in Europe would demand the car has to be auctioned Is she paying 8 000 school fees. This is not a luxury. Parents are still free to determine what school their kids go to. For five kid's. ..that is not a luxury for a court in UK. Do you realise that this poor woman has been made a victim by politicians. But since you live in the US. It's okay. A black man life is not worth that lf a lion. I would be unfair to myself and others if I do not write the truth. And pray explain why any of this is the responsibility of society be it Nigeria or UK? She and her husband made a conscious decision to have children. They chose to go to all lengths to have children when nature did not take its course. Again I question you being a lawyer if you cannot acknowledge that she is wrong. Acknowledging she is wrong does not stop you from arguing that circumstances beyond her control make it impossible for her to pay but uncontrollable circumstances do not turn wrong to right. No where does it show that she attempted to negotiate the bill. You and I and the many others who live here all know that these bills can be negotiated down but where did she attempt to do this? Nothing is free in this world. Nigerians act like healthcare is free in oyibo land ignoring the many who work to make it possible. Please give me a break and do not bring up the value of black lives as that is a conversation for another day one it is clear we will not see eye to eye on. I believe all lives matter be they black, white or blue. What is wrong is wrong and until we start to accept and acknowledge that Nigeria is doomed. |

mutter: I need to reply you later on your other posts. What you pay as taxes is more on the average. If you are single it isn't the world. How much of taxpayers money have you consumed since birth and how much have you paid into the system. Right now your account is on a big minus. You have not returned what you consumed so no one is living on your taxes. You have not yet fulfilled the generation contract of paying back the taxes paid by the older generation who need to be funded on their old age. Please give us a break. !!!! It seems you argue for the sake of arguing and I seriously doubt that you are a lawyer.if you cannot acknowledge that she is wrong. Argue mitigating circumstances but please do not bring up racism because that has no bearing here. At least efemenaxy contributes to the system, while you are supporting those who want to sponge off a system that they do nothing to support how does that make any sense. I always argue that Nigeria is exactly where it needs to be, we like to reap where we do not die. How much did she expect child birth to cost? £1000? There are hospitals in Nigeria that would provide excellent care but nooooo, you have to go to London or US to have your child when you cannot afford it. Cut your coat according to your cloth they refuse. While I don't live in the UK, the same happens here in the U.S. I have one policy anytime I have been asked by someone who wants to have a child here "show me the money". You will pay for the services used. If u can't afford it stay home and go to a clinic you can afford. there truly is no basis for your argument madam. |

cococandy: Ladies how do you handle a situation where your friend breaks up with her man who happens to be your man's friend?
This is all shades of awkward for me right now because I can't have him come over my place with his new girl (as he did once) while my babe may come around. I knew her before him so I'm girlcodes on her side.
But can't ask hubby to sacrifice his friendship with the dude just so I can preserve mine with my friend. One selfish person would have to win here and I want it to be me. I have been itching to ask this question and am afraid I have to one up u here. My friend is married like me for about 15 yrs and we have been friends for about 12 yrs. husbands met through us, we r actually a group of 4 friends that turned into family friends. We are practically neighbors. As in if rice finish in her house she will take from mine. The story started like play until it snowballed into something else. And for the longest I thought her husband was a jerk until forced intervention happened. See story, found out she had never been honest about the issues they were having, I mean she was wrong. Not holding brief for d man but she was more on d wrong. Now they r heading for divorce and it has torn our close group apart. We were the closest and I chose not to take a side but it affected me cos if we did not talk in a day then that day was incomplete. I have been so sad over it, the only choice I see is for the friendship to dry up. How does one handle this other than mind your business. There r some relationships that r so intertwined their business is ur business. |

Call me selfish, but I want a partner who is just for me. I don't need someone lying next to me at night, after she has enjoyed a long evening of sex in possibly all of it's forms with another.
Yes, we all can run into someone that we find deeply attractive, but sharing the intimacy with someone else that you do with your partner cheapens what you have between you. There is little left sacred. And those seemingly harmless "dates" can easily turn into a great deal more that could cause all concerned unbearable pain.
If a person wants an open relationship, they should remain single. Couldn't have said it better. |
