“It is clear that it is not young boys who are sleeping with these girls. It is old men. We must take a stand against ‘sugar daddies’ because they are destroying our children,” Motsoaledi was quoted by the Sowetan as saying.
He said 94 000 schoolgirls got pregnant in 2011 across the country. “About 77 000 girls had abortions at public facilities. We can no longer live like that. We want to put an end to it.”
Some of the girls who got pregnant – and tested positive for HIV – were reportedly between the ages of 10 and 14. Motsoaledi said of the 52 districts in the country, the Gert Sibande district, in Mpumalanga, topped the list of HIV positive people.
Figures remained relatively unchanged since 2005, when South Africa’s national household survey found HIV was prevalent in 29.5% of girls aged between 15 and 19 years who had sex partners who were five or more years older than them.

@THIZA, get the reply you wanted -

South Africa, the nation with the highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS, has spent more than $1.4 billion training doctors, only to see them emigrate overseas for jobs. It's part of a massive flow of expertise from poor and developing countries to rich nations such as the United States, Canada, Britain and Australia.

With more than 5 million people living with HIV/AIDS, South Africa has just eight doctors for every 10,000 people. Its public hospitals are understaffed and overburdened because of HIV/AIDS, according to medical analysts.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/world_now/2011/11/south-africa-lost-14-billion-training-doctors-who-emigrated.html

As my recent survey of 469 South African medical graduate immigrants* has revealed, as I have written in both the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine and the BMJ, and as has been appreciated by the editor of the South African Medical Journal, doctors usually leave because they are “pushed out” by many factors.

Corruption, diversion of money into military weapons/armaments and the associated degradation of health and education infrastructure, crime, and now reverse discrimination (against whites in South Africa and Zimbabwe) make for compelling reasons to emigrate.

http://blogs.crikey.com.au/croakey/2012/01/16/doctors-have-good-reasons-for-leaving-south-africa/

About 190 South African medical students in Cuba are on a hunger strike, demanding a bigger monthly stipend.

The department sent 1000 students to Cuba in September to study medicine.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said this was one of the ways to deal with a shortage of doctors in the country.

50 000 rebels but they never attacked with all 50 000, seleka is 8000 now thought to be 12 000 strong of that 8000 SA fought 3000.

Next how many nigerian solders. Were there and with what gear.

Liberia and serrie leon were a joke. Rebels so high and brain washed that they though they were built proof and did not know how to aim. Yes real hard.
you can c.ollapse with envy because nigeria succeeded where south africa failed trying the same stunt. grin

some sources related to United Nations disarmament programme quote liberian rebels and ex-government soldiers were close to 100,000 fighters at the end of the war. i deliberately cut down the rebel estimate of about 80,000 to 50,000 by my own will. its foolish for anyone to then say i mis-inform.

QUOTE

"The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) have completed the disarmament of 100,000 ex-combatants from LURD, MODEL and the ex-government of Liberia"

SOURCE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberians_United_for_Reconciliation_and_Democracy

i dont care if they a.tacked in brigades or in battalions. about 10,000 nigerian army faced about 50,000 liberian rebels. nigeria defeated them in city and urban warfare, the rebels retreated into the thick jungles/forests and nigerian army went into the forests to fight them there, we did not return back home for fear of death like south african army in CAR.

even if seleka outnumbered you and beat south african army first battle, your soldiers should have gone back to CAR with new reinforcement and heavy weapons to regain your national pride instead of coming here to tell us fairy tales on nairaland.

south africa is the only country in the world that i know who manufactures so many modern weapons also importing billions of dollars worth of the best european weapons and yet her soldiers do not want to fight and d.ie like real men.

mandela's boys are just a bunch of cowardly army of soldeirs who do the job to get monthly salaries and cannot defend the pride of south african nation.

Over 50,000 of these Liberian Rebels fought against Nigerian Army

liberian civil war which nigeria fought is 10 times more d.eadly than CAR seleka war of south africa. nigerian army fought phase one in the cities and villages, and phase two inside deep west african equatorial rain forest jungles of d.eath

it is easier to fight a regular national army whom you can see, identify and locate, than to fight drug/hemp smoking juju/magic charms carrying and human flesh eating cannibal rebel army who never obey any international laws of war and hide in tens of thousands inside thick jungles/forests.....why did mighty American army avoid fighting in liberia, and great British army avoid intervention in sierra leone when the jungle war was raging at its peak for many years ?

the Americans and British armies have not forgotten the h.orror of jungle warfare in Burma and Vietnam, they leave Nigerian army alone to enter the forests of h.orror in liberia and sierra leone wars.

Susette Gates Conspiracy : how seleka rebels spared the lives of south african soldiers

contrary to claims by south africans that their army killed 500, then 600, and finally adjusted figure to 800 seleka rebels, the truth if logically proved that the south africans actually surrendered or begged the seleka rebels to allow them to escape in peace to the airport to come under french army protection.

QUOTE :

"Parliamentarians also warmly clapped when informed of the bravery of another female, Susette Gates, who works in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF)

She was confronted by the rebels who wanted to take the bags she’d retrieved. But she convinced them that she was carrying clothes left behind. She hitch hiked to the airport with French troops. "

SOURCE

http://www.sanews.gov.za/south-africa/parly-applauds-heroines-bravery

south african army did not kill any 500 or 600 or 800 seleka rebels otherwise the rebels in anger would have killed Susette Gates out of anger and revenge. only few rebels were killed, maybe about 100.

i had a battlefield simulation done with a retired combat soldier who has real life battlefield experience of infantry warfare, and a good knowledge of the american-somalia rebels firefight called 'black hawk down'.

conclusion was that there is no way south african army will lose 13 men while seleka rebels will lose 800 men to create a new world record infantry combat kill ratio of 1:61, that will be a new world record he said.

we looked critically at the weapons the seleka rebels had :

14.5mm double barrel anti-aircraft guns mobile truck mounted with firing range of about 5km and firing rate of about 1,000 rounds of ammunition in 5 minutes and it can pierce through light armour vehicles, for a human body it will tear the soldier into pieces.

105mm mobile anti-tank bazooka rocket launchers with range of about 2km and its rockets can pierce through heavy armour vehicles.

general purpose machine guns with range about 2km and rate of fire 5,000 bullets in 5 minutes.

AK-47 rifles were also used by the estimated 2,500 seleka force against the estimated 250 man south african army force.

the senior commanders of seleka are said to have at least average army military training in chad before their rebellion.

the south africans were out numbered in ratio 10 men against 1.

the seleka rebels used element of surprise attack because the south africans were not expecting them.

seleka was fighting at home and had advantage of knowledge of all the land and bush routes the south africans could use.

seleka rebels knew all the escape routes the south african army could use to escape and had blocked it, that is why corporal Nkoana went through hidden bush paths and still fell into the hands of seleka rebels who spared her life.

the seleka rebels did not need to get close to the south africans before wiping them out, their base was known and the mobile anti-aircraft guns with deadly amour piercing rapid firepower can tear the south africans into pieces from a distance of 1km away.

we simulated and discovered that with the above, the south african army can never kill 800 seleka rebels and lose only 13 men in about 18 hours of fighting.

as a form of simulation control/comparison, we related the battle of bangui to the american army battle against north korea in 'task force smith' 1950 korean war, where america was outnumbered in this same ratio 10:1, with 400 american specially selected soldiers against 4,000 regular north korean soldiers in the infantry encounter. in a few hours of combat 200 of the 400 american soldiers were dead or wounded and they retreated fast away from the battle field.

task force smith experience in war teaches world armies that you can never have a high kill ratio against a superior enemy unless their hands are tied to their backs with chains. you are more likely to lose the war to superior numbers and superior weapons, you cannot turn that situation around unless you chain the hands of the superior force so that you can k.ill them defenseless

in vietnam war 1965 to 1974, despite the awesome american land sea and air firepower superior to the communists, the kill ratio is estimated at 2:3, in favour of america/allies.

they did fight, but the south african army surrendered after losing the said 13 soldiers or likely even more, to avoid being totally wiped out, they surrendered to seleka and negotiated for a safe passage out of the area, that is clear from the fact that SANDF Susette Gates met with the seleka rebels they were said to be fighting with and she merely talked with them and they let her walk away without any harassment ! surely south african army had begged seleka to spare their lives and promised to leave CAR forever and never come back, for this reason, the rebels did not kill more of them and let them go free.

the south african propaganda kill ratio of 1:61 in their own favour, is a historical fraud in the history of war where the the so called winner is heavily out numbered and out gunned and also caught by surprise in a foreign territory they don not know well

powerful NNS Aradu...the underestimated firepower of a frigate

augustine :

so how do you mean ? NNS Aradu is today, capable of destroying enemy warships within 100km radius of nigerian ocean waters ?

navy officer :

why not ? i said the ship is active today and reserved for that purpose

augustine :

please explain

navy officer :

as i said, due to nigeria's oil and gas interests at sea, we still have NNS Aradu as a capable defense platform equipped with 8 powerful Otomat anti-ship missile that has a range of 80km and if need arises it can be enhanced to 180km range. Aradu has new radar and new anti-submarine sonar as well as other electronic upgrades, millions of dollars was spent to reactivate the combat power of this ship, and it is done.

if any invading warship moves into nigerian waters up to 100km away from our coast, the many coastal radars we have will guide the Aradu and with any needed air support for targeting, NNS Aradu will fire Otomat anti-shi missiles and sink the enemy warships from a very far away distance.

i dont see any navy in africa taking a risk to threaten nigerian oceans, no one has ever tried it before and after NNS Aradu was commissioned in shagari's era. it is a formidable sea vessel till today, until we replace it a few years from now.

augustine :

so what if the enemy ships too have exocet missiles to counter attack ?

navy officer :

no sub-saharan african navy has an exocet missile to match the 80km to 180km range of NNS Aradu's otomat missile. as i said, no african threat is capable to tackle the Aradu at home, and no country on this continent will try it.

augustine :

so what else can the Aradu do for us ?

navy officer :

i dont like to talk too much with you civilians. lets change topic. so when are you coming back home ?

augustine :

i dont like to talk too much with you military men o ! (laughter). oga how about that car you wanted to buy ? should i find you one here and ship it ? you promised to buy from me. abi you changed your mind ?

QUOTE :

"The South African Navy (SAN) will not have a seaborne presence at the single largest naval event of the year – the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) international fleet review scheduled for October.

The review will commemorate the centenary of the first entry of the RAN fleet into Sydney.

The review, according to the RAN, is a high profile international event and the RAN’s signature commemorative event for 2013."
