Modrov: Discos have no choice.
All the discos have been running at a loss because they aren't allowed to charge cost reflective tariffs.
We may all complain, but the truth is if we want power 24 seven we have to pay the market price for power. Lol, I'm not going to label as you as DISCO staff but I will tell you to stop deceiving yourself. One, FG is still subsidising the energy that DISCOs are buying from the GENCOs. I'm not saying subsidising for the customers but subsidising for the DISCOs. Two, have you ever been given estimated bill? I was given monthly estimated bill of 20k for 7 months before prepaid was given to me. Now, the total amount of debt on our prepaid meter is 200k out of which we have paid 50k within 3 months apart from the cost of energy we're buying. But I'm happy to tell you that we didn't consume that 20k energy per month. That's exactly what over 80% of their customers are facing today. Thirdly, do we even have a stable power supply? No. But customers on estimated billing which are the majority are being billed for 24/7 power supply! Is that fair? Fourthly, are these DISCOs even investing according to their agreement with FG? No! People are still buying transformers, main poles and cables in new communities. DISCOs staff just come to collect tariffs once such communities are connected to the power grid. Is that fair? Fifthly, are DISCOs even paying the GENCOs appropriately and as when due? Go and read up how much they're owing GENCOs. On top the fact that these DISCOs owners are smiling to the banks everyday. Or we could prevail on Buhari to reverse the privatisation of power in return for paying the discos and GENCOS billions in compensation for in essence breaking their contract Not possible because the billions you're talking about is in dollars, not naira. And it is not a few billions of dollars. You need to read the ridiculous clauses put in place in case FG wants to get it back. |

ValCon888: A typical Nigerian girl has this entitlement mentality. They believe you must do everything for them. You must give them money, take them out, buy gifts, make their hair, recharge their phones (and still do the calling) etc.
You must give them money before they buy you gift. And they will only use 10% of that money for your usual boxers, singlet or roll-on birthday present.
She is never altruistic or selfless. If she does something for you, she expects you to do something even greater for her in return. It is until you date a foreign chick you realize a vast majority of Nigerian girls have nothing to offer.

AnanseK: I agree with you about the need to modernize animal rearing away from open grazing for many reasons including the ones you listed. But people are creating the impression that Fulani herders are there to confiscate and own land perhaps as certified owners, which is not true. In the past the nomads had country owned land mapped out for them to graze their cattle. Government owned land, not farms or individual privately own lands. This was interpreted as common good , the same as the government build roads for people move with their goods and to travel in conducting their businesses. In those days , cattle tax was paid to the Government per head of cattle.
The impasse about rearing of cattle can be unraveled and dealt with sensibly for the benefit of all, if the goodwill was there. Threatening fire and brimstone by politicians just to impress the masses cannot be the way for progress.
The outright ban on open grazing in specific sections of the country, and without any national plans for herding animals will, rightly or wrongly attract economic retaliations. There is wisdom in discussions and building a consensus. And you expected educated illiterates from the south on nairaland to understand that? I'm even interested in knowing what they will be doing to Fulani herders and their cattle who are going to be caught or arrested when such law is eventually passed. Season film |

HellAnus: Islam is evil. A big cancer to humanity Lol. You have forgotten that those that took war to Afghanistan are Christians, they started this. You can blame Islam as much as you want, it doesn't change the fact Christian nations disturbed their peace. And don't forget, those Christians equally took that same war to Iraq under the pretence of stopping the use of WMD. Then, took that war to Libya, Syria. Killing millions of Muslims, leaving those countries in ruins and then giving rise to different militias with weapons flowing freely in. |

Safyqueen: Are you sure? This plateau issue is no more Fulani issue, it has metamorphosed to religious one. The HOA has made a serious mistake, a grave one for that matter. You are worried by the number of deaths and you now asked people to carry arms, is it to treat the wounded or to resurrect the deads or to kill more? Most of them just wanted the public money, that's why they found themselves in the corridor of power, not that they know what they are there for. |
