I looked up the name of the receiver on Facebook, sent him a message, explained everything in details. After forth and back, he called me and sent the money back to me without asking for anything in return. Just today!
And he's an Igbo man, a clergyman.

The job of the government is to do what is best for most people and secure the country's future.
Left to me, the government should never pay ransom or give any appearance of negotiating under any
circumstances in kidnap cases.

As we speak, some people have been kidnapped more than once, so the "rescued" victims are not even safe
unless they flee the country.
You have no idea what kind of country we will have in 5-10 years when every petty criminals who are also
reading news realize that kidnapping is very lucrative, it give them huge power over the government and
it carries no consequence.

There is a reason why many governments never pay a dime to kidnappers. They know that if
they pay once, they will continue to pay as many criminals see potential huge payouts.

It's not a simple issue my brother. Unless these kidnappers are tracked down and killed or arrested, they would never quit or released their victims alive. And we know the calibre of people they are kidnapping and accompanied economic loss to their families and the nation if these kind of people are being wasted by the kidnappers.
No family will ever say that "we have money but we won't pay, let them kill him or her if they want".
There should be deterrence but shouldn't be by experimenting with human lives
