We do have leaders who are capable and progressive but the current system excludes such people from smelling seat of power. What I am saying, if Nigeria dissolve under the current system, the same set of leaders we have would be inherited. If you, I and any other Northern Nigerian believe that we would be better off under an independent nation, then certainly, it is better we start educating our local people, plan for it, and fight for it. However, a system that is capable of returning Kwankoso as Gov of Kano State after disastrous 4 years as Gov and 4 years as defence minister is not worth to inherit.
That is quite a simple thing. The whole system will be overhauled and only those progressive and capable people will be part of the new leadership. Excluding all politicians under the former structure is possible. This reason alone cannot prevent our people from realizing the sweetness of being independent from this "disappointing union" called Nigeria. I am against it, and will remain against it forever.

Believe is not reality. We believed for a very long time that we would be a great Nation, and the reality is proving contrary. Unless there is already a movement with principle personalities and progressive minded that clamoured for independence, what you would have is hijacking of the new governments by the present elites.

A very good look at our people in the north, one know that it would take more than just independence to spur us into action of abandoning the present set of leaders, or even the system for more competent people.
But then comes our fair, if we do not have leaders to choose for our own nation why choose to lead Nigeria? If we don't have leaders in all north, then fine, let us forget about leadership. example a house with 12 children under the care of very bad person, when you remove 6 children from the house and take them to another house you have at least reduced their number even if their new house guarantees nothing better. What we are currently set in is called "suicide" lets not live and lets not allow others live.

Good analysis here, hopefully Nigeria remains one and we are able to vote in good leaders.
This hope guarantees no green future, it might be good now but future is not guaranteed. So planning for the future is the key to development in any country both economically and politically. We can keep hoping for the rest of our lives.
PoliticsRe: Fuel Subsidy Removal Is Preparation For Separation by auwal87(op): 8:42pm On Jan 03, 2012
Believe me, new sets of nation building leaders will emerge because the people will be more patriotic and will try to compete with former states in development.
PoliticsRe: Why Are There No Subsidy Protests In The SE/SS Oil Producing States? by auwal87(m): 8:28pm On Jan 03, 2012
their oil is free, they vandalize and steal whatever quantity they want so they need no protest!

period!
PoliticsFuel Subsidy Removal Is Preparation For Separation by auwal87(op): 8:20pm On Jan 03, 2012
The Process towards separating this country involves the withdrawal of any support by the federal government, state police, and finally military deployment in all over the Northern region.

Northerners are very use to cheap oil but it doesn't exist on our land so by removing the subsidy we will start getting use to living without oil, next thing is the other controversial request by niger deltans to own 50% of oil revenue.

Arewa will surely suffer after separation but on long term, it is far more promising who knows where tomorrow's energy resources lies? It might be anywhere. I really see my people as very un-thankful to God by saying we wont survive without oil. What was sustaining the region before oil was discovered? Population, businesses, trade, technology, agriculture, manufacturing. by taking good care of these we have all our future generations in good shape. but the docility and level of thinking of my people is still that without oil we will perish! this is not true.

Please my people wake up and thank God with the resources He blessed us with all over the country. We are decaying under Nigeria, the leaders will finish everything then turn to people.

Time is now!

PoliticsNo More 250 Naira Food In Nigerian Restaurants by auwal87(op): 2:19pm On Jan 03, 2012
There are reports that restaurants have also sky-rocketed their prices by about 80%. Is this true? How much does it cost a single meal in a restaurant now?

Don't you think all this is about reducing Nigeria's population? Cost of fertiliser will also increase and most people not be able to buy, those that buy must increase their prices too.

PoliticsRe: Breaking News: GEJ Declares State of Emergency in selected LGAs in Borno, Yobe, Niger and Plateau. by auwal87(m): 8:45pm On Dec 31, 2011
A state of emergency is a governmental declaration that may suspend some normal functions of the executive, legislative and judicial powers, alert citizens to change their normal behaviours, or order government agencies to implement emergency preparedness plans. It can also be used as a rationale for suspending rights and freedoms, even if guaranteed under the constitution. Such declarations usually come during a time of natural or man made disaster, during periods of civil unrest, or following a declaration of war or situation of international or internal armed conflict. Justitium is its equivalent in Roman law.

In some countries, the state of emergency and its effects on human rights and freedoms and governmental procedure are regulated by the constitution and/or a law that limits the powers that may be invoked. Rights and freedoms may be suspended during an emergency, for instance, freedom of movement, but not non-derogable rights.[1] In many countries it is illegal to modify the emergency law or the constitution during the emergency.

@ beaf

You don't even know what a State of Emergency is, in fact most of those responding to this thread doesn't know what a State of Emergency is.

It means more weapons for BH, more time for them to think and create plans, it means more recruit for them.

Aghhhh, just don't know to what extent it will reach before you come back to your senses.

And your suggestion is for Jonathan sit down behind a laptop and type like you do all day ?
He should be more strategic than this dull decision, to the eyes of Nigerians it is good.

What if they buried all their weapons and fled only to return days after the emergency is lifted?? Will start another emergency? Common this isn't a solution at all.

Beaf:
Maybe you are missing the most crucial info the emergency conveys. It is that if boko haram is dreaming of a war, large parts of their territory has now been captured even before the firing of the first shot; even more, it ensures that their territory will be the theatre of any sponsored war the wish to fight, regardless if their sponsors are powerful Middle Eastern coutries. GEJ's move is a blindingly strategic masterstroke on several fronts. cool
Which state of emergency worked for Iraq or Afghanistan to fight al qaeda?

Man in few days you will understand that it is bad idea, bad decision, it will only spoil matters more. these guys are not in caves located in the states that were declared emergency. They are within the community, and the community isn't aware, they will disappear any minute, they might be on their way to another state right now.

PoliticsRe: Breaking News: GEJ Declares State of Emergency in selected LGAs in Borno, Yobe, Niger and Plateau. by auwal87(m): 6:41pm On Dec 31, 2011
The BH will surely laugh at this.

What if all their operations are from Kano or Jigawa or Katsina or even Lagos?

It is like telling them to expand to other states, now all the security will be concentrated in those states, and Gbam you can here one bomb tomorrow at Sabon gari Kano.

unwise for the current situation.

Intelligence is what is needed, common these guys are fighting from hidden places nobody even know where their hideouts or camps are located. They can move all around the country at will, maybe with even police protection.

If you cannot effectively handle security lapses "administratively", then resort to FIRE. Operation kill any "Northern Muslim that fits the profile of BOKOS, I'm sure SSS or whichever agency has a working profile. While you're at it, employ several strategies, you don't talk nor command WEAK but authoritatively. The so-called Northern Elite know about this, so why hasn't he devised a strategy against them? If this will split Nigeria up, SO BE IT.
The guys are wise my friend, they can appear to look like a Pastor if they want, so just more innocent people will be killed, and they will be laughing because the police are helping them achieve what they want to, kill as many people as possible to create chaos.

I agree with you and painfully so, it is just not fair on you guys and those innocent ones who died but it is time for the Muslims to gather and root out these devils from their midst.
its the fact that we simply don't have courageous Muslim leader yet to come out and condemn. they are just afraid which shows their in-sincerity in their leadership and they cannot be trusted.
