take dat: Hehehe! You idiiots looking for whom to pick on have failed to point out where/how I contradicted myself in all my posts on this fake presidential directive. So its now a crime to advice that legal proceedings be instituted against them instead of unlawful detention for the court to adjudicate?Only in your warped mind will ARRESTS and CLAMPDOWN mean LEGAL PROCEEDINGS.Listen to yourself,So they are exactly same thing, right ?.Stop displaying your stupidity further and accept you goofed on this |
ba7man: Despite the negative situation in some parts of the Country, Nigeria is still on course to cementing its position as a World class economy. Nice one there. This is the real ba7man commenting...bros many more will even take place.let's pray for the success of the power sector reforms |
take dat: Will you STFU! My opinion hasn't changed, but in taking such action the rule of law must be adhered to, which is instituting legal proceedings against them instead of unlawful detention. Now,this your comment on the earlier trade about this same issue, take dat: I am sure you do not have comprehension problems. Forgery/ document falsification is a crime against the state, one would have expected ARRESTS and CLAMPDOWN ON THE MEDIA HOUSE BY THE SECURITY AGENCIES NOW, if truly the document purported to have emanated from the presidency is fake. Remember that we are not talking of a blog or an online news outlet with no reputation to protect. This government is hopeless if it can condone such criminality except the government itself is guilty!I leave it to fellow nairalanders to judge like I said your HYPOCRISY |
take dat: Where was the Nigerian police before Maina absconded? If they are sure the journalists have committed an infraction contrary to the law, they should institute legal action against them instead of this crude tactics. Journalists cannot be compelled to disclose their source to the police, the court should decide!Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.its on record on this forum that you posted that GEJ shud tk action against these guys.Even when some posters brought your attention to how crude that action might be ,you stuck to your guns. Now here you are crying wolf when the same action has been taken |
Am happy that from been CLUELESS and WEAK,they are beginning to see GEJ as CALCULATED and THICK-SKINNED.....Wowwwwwwww |
Nigeria appears to be ahead of its peers in the MINT, the new economic bloc that has raised hope for investors following the dwindling Brazil, Russia, India and Chinese (BRIC) economies. The MINT, comprising of Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey (MINT), is seen as a successor to the BRIC which is expected to graduate from an emerging market to a developed economy. It is believed to be a fertile destination for long-term investors, according to Samir Gadio, emerging markets strategist at Standard Bank, London. “We believe Nigeria is the fastest growing economy when compared to other MINTs, considering its strongest fiscal balance, lowest public debt, and the only country with a current account surplus as all other MINTs currently have deficits”, Yvonne Mhango, director, sub-Saharan African economist at Renaissance Capital told BusinessDay. Experts believe that government’s ability to implement market-oriented reforms such as modernisation of the banking systems, elimination of subsidies as urged by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in recent time, have played vital roles in positioning the country for a “take off”. Investment opportunity among the MINTs is quite massive, especially for very vibrant economies like Nigeria, which is currently utilising its huge population potential currently over 160 million, behind Indonesia’s 240 million and above Mexico’s and Turkey’s 112 million and 75 million, respectively, to attract foreign investors, analysts say. Nigeria’s huge population potential has enabled it gulp a good percentage of foreign investment in Africa over the last decade. Recent reports put Nigeria’s foreign direct investment (FDI) at $8.9 billion which is estimated to be 16 percent of Africa’s total FDI. Indonesia can only boast of FDI worth $5.9 billion while Mexico FDI has being losing steam early 2013 amid fears of tax hikes in USA. Turkey FDIs have slightly reduced to $8 billion since the beginning of 2013. Equally, Mexico’s FDI has tumbled from $21.5 billion in 2011 to $12.7 billion in early 2013. Nigeria’s 7.2 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth which has been predicted to be upwardly revised year end 2013 is only second to Turkey’s 8.5 percent but exceeds Mexico’s 5.5 percent and Indonesia’s 6.2 percent. Studies also show that Nigeria’s current $7 billion gross external debt is minimal compared to Turkey’s $274 billion, Mexico’s $341 billion public debt and Indonesia’s $213 billion. Given the above, Nigeria’s fiscal deficit was projected to improve to about 1.85 percent of GDP in 2013, compared to 2.85 percent in 2012. In addition, Nigeria’s 18.8 percent of GDP to public debt is also the lowest compared to Indonesia’s 24.8 percent, Mexico’s 35.4 percent and Turkey’s 40.4 percent. While some analysts fear for the country’s inflation rate, the recent release which pegs the country’s inflation rate at 9.5 percent have showed positive signs of Nigeria’s determination to spear head economic growth among other MINTs. Experts say given the foregoing there is a huge potential for Nigeria’s market which is already playing host to foreign investors such as the United States Exxon Mobil, UK-based private equity fund, Actis, South African’s MTN Group and SABMiller, among others. “There is no point fighting for political leadership that is transient to the extent that you want to even burn a house down because they perceive you are not too comfortable with a particular situation be it at the local level, be at the state and federal levels. These are transitional leadership.” “Today, we have a constitution that defines the maximum tenure that any individual can stay in office. And even if the constitution does not define, no leaders will stay there for life. I think collectively, we should think more about our own country, think more about leaving behind a society that our children will be happy of. The above quotations portray someone who is not desperate for a position. He has not just been talking this talk,he has walked the talk. All is evident in Edo,Ondo elections to mention a few |

atiku07: This guy I don't want to know who you r but u can be so annoying. Even if u r given a job to do why can't u try as much as possible and do it with ur church mind. I see dis stupid question backed with crazy and myopic form of analysis as the height of insult ever received by Nigerians from the GEJ 40 laptop gang. Haba how can a right thinking human be asking such a nauseating question in the wake of the almaiyesgha (don't know if I got the spelling right)pardonegate, police pension scam, subsidy borouhaha,a defective judiciary and all u now came here with some beer parlour analysis on how supposing 20billion did its Job and how 500million did its and how funds no longer go into private pocket, how are we sure those funds r not even inflated. When you said corruption is more than that..I was expecting you to give your definition of corruption...but you ended up saying nothing. All indications points to the fact that you are really pissed with the Alam's pardon, which is quite normal.Maybe you can also help with better ideas of fighting corruption than the one he suggested |

President speech was interrupted as the power outage occurred while he was delivering his speech to the congregation. He was talking about his administration's restructuring of the Nigerian economy when the church was thrown into darkness as seen in the picture on a very sunny day in Lagos. Laughing along with the cheering congregation, Dr Jonathan remarked that by the power outage, officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria are telling him not to sleep until the nation's power crisis is fixed. He however vowed that by next year the power in the church will be uninterrupted. The Easter Sunday service also had in attendance, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon. Sincere 9gerian: Unfortunately, we have done badly in the aspect of prosecuting corrupt people and securing convictions. Our justice system is painfully slow. That has to change. It should be possible to arraign people for corruption and get judgement within 6months.That brings me to this..I thought the president said something about reforming the criminal justice system.I don't know if anything meaningful has been carried out in that respect. If you know something about that can you help and share |
Sincere 9gerian: You'r selling OBJ's "legacy" and at the same time talking "sycophants"? It is you that is trying to sell non-existing "legacy" that is the "sycophant" ![]() |
@ sincerenigerian what do you think about punishing people caught in the act of corruption?..I think that's the best way our people that corruption is been fought.. Good points raised though |
Only if SAHARA REPORTERS could also channel the same INVESTIGATIVE energy into various development activities ongoing in the country ..... |
kutchs: Not only the SE is getting the needed attention, other zones too are not left out at least to the extent I know. The Oturkpo 9th mile road which has been a nightmare to travellers on that road is being worked on. The most troublesome portion has been fixed as they approach Ugbokolo. Now travellers to the SE and SS from the NE have the options of going 2gh Oturkpo or going 2gh the rebuilt Ogoja-Abakiliki road.Seriously ?? ABAKILIKI-AFIKPO-OKIGWE road now smooth....I remember the last tym I took that road which was in early 2010.I practically cursed everbody who was in charge of making that road better. As our bus journeyed through,my heart sunk deep.Of a truth I never thought I wud mk it tru that journey. So hearing that the road is good now is a huge welcome relief. If it takes been clueless to achieve all this, then I will say it pays to be clueless |
dvee2: Excellent report from a foreign media abi? yet if the write up is critical of government like the 40 Ambulance saga,i also hear we say "Let them leave us alone,it is our country, they want to break us up to steal our oil, they are sponsored by opposition etc". Weldone GEJ. Lets also hear you acknowledge when the presidency goofTry and differentiate between an investigative report and an opinion article which emanates from the writer's thoughts. That said, nobody is saying that the ills of the government should not be exposed. But let them be factual not conjecturing up falsehood, lies and deceit. |
This is a commendable effort from the GUARDIAN.I passed through that road yesterday and it was good. However, there are still some bad portions and I didn't see any contractors in these particular locations.I assume maybe they are still busy on the other sections and will soon get to these places.Overall good job FERMA,good job FED MIN. of WORKS,good job GEJ |
nameo: why must it be the international media that is informing us about what is going on in our own railway sector? What of our Local media(Punch, vanguard, guardian, nation, saharareports, leadership, and others)? That's the terrible situation we have found ourself...the kind of energy and effort SAHARA REPORTERS channel into bringing to light the ills of the government is electrifying. Can't they just channel this same energy towards bringing to our knowledge their 'rights' too.. A whole lot of projects are ongoing ωнεяε this guys should monitor and report what is happening, yet no one does.Projects like the mambilla hydro power plant,portharcourt-enugu-maidugiri rail lines, how have they updated us on the progress of the road recovery projects started in December. Orubebe just said that almost all of the critical bridges and culvert on the east-west road has been fixed, can't they help to verify this. How about the feasibility studies ƒσя new rail lines can't they track that too. Like sincerenigerian pointed out, this is one of the numerous way to tackle corruption.Tackling corruption does not just end with prosecuting of convicts.Prevention is also an integral aspect |
otokx: i want those who are here telling lies on behalf of FG to whisper to them that no light so that Oga at the top can call NEPA to switch on UNIPORT and perhaps switch off an area tha has been enjoying light.I wonder if you are really a student.why can't u just use your brain for once.U Ave been educated here on how PHCN works and the appropriate place to channel your complains to.Still u keep on making a fool of yourself here.smh ƒσя our undergraduates these days |
@ thelastpope...I want to ask..after this NIPP projects must have been commissioned..who is going to be responsible for managing them?? Will they be privatized like others?? One other thing, after all NIPP projects have been brought on stream, what is the government's plan ƒσя improving generation capacity.I know that work is been done on Mambilla hydro power plant. Are they others like mambilla? Thanks |
asha 80: which one is mbaise ngwa road?i do not think i have ever heard of that road before.i wonder the villages it passes through.I was also thinking the same tin..I avent heard about that road before, maybe mbaise and ngwa indigenes on this forum can help us out.... Am particularly thrilled with OHAFIA-OSO road, that road crosses tru my village and have suffered tru years of neglect. Also happy with ABiRIBA-OHAFIA-AROCHUKWU road and IKOT EKPENE-ABA-OWERRI road, these roads have been death traps. God bless GEJ and his cabinet.pray ƒσя more wisdom on them |
asha 80: how is owerri to aba road?Do u mean d road from naze junction in owerri, crossing the imo river bridge to umu ika junction whr it links with enugu-portharcourt expressway??... If yes then the road is completely smooth thou not dualized..but from umu ika junction(ie enugu-portharcourt expressway) to osisioma in aba is smooth and dualized..nna mehn if u are with a good ride na 2 d cruise my broda...heard its the same from osisioma to ph |
Are you sure about the state of that road?! I swear I have it somewhere at the back of my mind that this road has stopped to exist. Thats why on my last trip to Enugu, I went to Onitsha and then started heading for Enugu which was not only a longer trip, but also had some of the worst roads I have ever driven on (although they were under construction at the time).. Please reconfirm to me that Enugu - PH road is now okay. Especially the part that cuts through ABA/Abia. Use % okay please and if possible, compare it to another notably good road. Thanks.
Very smooth...I passed through that road today...was travelling from owerri to aba |
Travelling through enugu-portharcourt expressway ryt now...mehn yet to notice any bad spot..almost all failed portions have been recovered...confirmin wot oda posters have been posting here...kudos GEJ admin |

The same Stanford University’s Professor Joel Brinkley that wrote a largely incoherent opinion article on Vietnam. Many leading Vietnamese in the United States and back home in Vietnam came together, petitioned, countered him and then demanded that he resign his position at Stanford University. One of them called the article 'the most misinformed, bigoted piece of claptrap on the subject of Vietnam that I have ever had the displeasure to read"... See Petition by Vietnamese in America calling from Professor Brinkley’s resignation from Stanford University here https://www.change.org/petitions/professor-joel-brinkley- stanford-university-resign-from-teaching Also, the Stanford Vietnamese Student Association came out to release an Op-Ed in the Stanford Daily, in solidarity with numerous Stanford university on-campus organizations where they described Joel Brinkley's article 'A perversion of the cultural image of Vietnam and an antithesis to the mission of tolerance that Stanford University - students and faculty alike- should promote…” See Op-Ed here http://www.stanforddaily.com/2013/02/08/ op-ed-a-response-to-joel-brinkleys-offensive-article/ Professor Brinkley’s eventually apologized. The apology is also provided on the petitions page. One commentator on the Brinkley article, Iain Purdie of Glasgow, UK stated thus “a man who is unable to research a small article on a country with volumes of data available about it is obviously incapable of reliably teaching facts to students. At a guess, he is either lazy, opportunistic or racist – none of which I will find acceptable in a person in charge of the education of others”. (Culled from the petition page provided above) Trumpet Media through which the published article was syndicated, also offered an apology for the article stating that the opinion article did not meet ‘their’ journalistic standards. Interestingly, maybe we should also say that this is just the right time for Professor Brinkley to also resign from this teaching position at Stanford where he is supposed to be molding minds and building the leaders of tomorrow. So Professor Brinkley, I hereby join voices with the Vietnamese students at Stanford and DEMAND that you RESIGN immediately. |
mediainspired: @duality, no matter how mischievous u think some anti-GEJ are getting here on NL, u must also remember that there some truths in them when they become so much. Before u start shifting the blame to the states &LGs, what stops the FG frm publishing the allocation details for the sake of accountability? Then we know who to hold responsible. It's only GEJ &Ngozi that talk about SURE-P to justify their subsidy abracadabra. Mind u, not all anti GEJ sentiments here are by ACN followers or non Niger Deltans. Fact is, this govt's popularity is very, very low.If you do buy the papers, you will see that both budget releases and sure-p releases are published there as soon as they are released |
ewet: You must be a clown. Were monies not allocated for those in the previous budgets and are you cartegorically telling me we couldnt hav railways or the supposed eastwest rd without SURE P?i dnt thnk so.please tell me you are alibaba b4 i start thinking u r trying to outdo GEJ in the act of cluelessness.YOU shuld get the GEJ award for the dumbest ass ever.I can't recollect calling you or anybody names,so y not challenge my explanations with superior argument. |

take dat: It is you who needs another brain to make half-wit. There are a lot of christian and muslim casualties on the receiving end of Boko haram's menace, so if some governors decided to donate in order to rehabilitate those affected isn't it a good cause than to give N6million to some sleazy party chiefs for refreshment? So many dunderheads in Nigeria! Please who was the N200 million APC governors donated handed to and what are modalities for the victims accessing this fund...I missed that part of the news |
thelastPope: I feel you. I couldnt help but laugh at the idota who keeps saying GEJ should come and give them light in UNIPORT. Some people are just daft! The UNIPORT idota is an exam mercenary in uniport.one of those spoiling this country |
