Do Abuja jejely o. It’ll cost slightly more if you did your biometrics elsewhere but it’s worth the peace of mind. Sent passport to Lagos Dec 3, profile was updated as approved on Dec 13 and passport is still not back. Lagos VFS sucks

I am a bit lost with respect to the travel ban. Are Nigerian passport holders completely banned for now?

Otherwise, can one travel to a country not on the list (e.g. Dubai, Ghana, Cotonou, Ethiopia, Germany, etc.) and then take a flight from there to Canada after 15 days?

Anyone tried this lately? Please advise.

The wording of the ban announcement implies the prohibition is not on nationality but where you’re traveling from. So long as you weren’t in any of the banned countries within the previous 14 days preceding your arrival in Canada. Even if any CBSA agent wants to be overzealous, at most you’ll be quarantined, I doubt anyone will be turned back.

I don't know why they don't encourage reusing plastic bags in Canada. If for nothing, at least to save the planet. When I'm in Canada, I go to stores with my own bag. Dem go still ask me, do you need a bag?

That’s why the bags are not free, the charge is to discourage people. I ain’t about to pay any extra money, no matter how small, so I take mine from home.

Lagos VFS

Does VFS send email updates when you send passport for visit visa? I recall when I sent my passport to Lagos VFS for PR visa, I got constant updates. However, my mums passport was sent on Friday Dec 3 and DHL confirmed delivery on Monday Dec 6 but there’s been no acknowledgement from VFS since then.

Note that Abuja is faster than Lagos and you will pay a transmission fee if you send to a different vfs than where you did your biometrics.

I guess there’s no reason to rush now given the travel ban. I was going to send my Mum’s passport to Ghana directly but I’ll just do Lagos. Saves costs since she can’t travel now till they lift the ban or introduce some exemptions. A blanket ban doesn’t make sense, COVID is apparently here to stay, we have to learn to live with it.

There is a disclaimer somewhere advising not to submit multiple applications and the advisory also stated you could withdraw your previous application but they can’t guarantee a refund. I applied post Sept 7 and shouldn’t have used GC key in the first place given that applicant has travel exemption and is coming for family reunification. Based on the guiding questions asked, those are the categories of people the portal was created for in the first place.

I've spent almost a thousand dollars. The first application was $300. Then I submitted a second application a month ago and spent $385 as one of my children reached age for Biometrics. Unfortunately, I used my previous account rather than the new web portal so I had to reapply again last week as soon as I realised my mistake (thanks to someone here on Nairaland) through the new portal and paid another $300. After all this stress, it's the approval that concerns me more. In fact, you reach a stage when you just want an outcome so you can move on and plan ahead.

I thought it will be easy as I already had soft copies of documents used a month ago only to discover the 2MB limit so I had to start working on the documents all over again (Except straightforward docs like NIN, International Passport and Passport photograph).

Apart from the initial updates, I got an update 2 days later in the portal which were application summary documents (PDF files). I also noticed that biometrics were updated for the applicants with biometrics when I checked the portal upon receipt of their email.

Is this normal? The waiting continues.

Passport photograph? That wasn’t part of the required documents when I was resubmitting. I thought it was weird but since it wasn’t requested, I didn’t bother. Do I send it via webform?

Also, that 2mb limit was so restrictive plus the portal kept rejecting documents merged or compressed with websites like ilovepdf. I spent almost 6 hours adjusting and putting the documents together before it finally uploaded.

So my mom got biometrics request on Oct 21 and did the biometrics yesterday. I then submitted a new application via the new IRCC portal today and sent a webform to withdraw the previous application. They definitely haven’t started anything on it since processing doesn’t even start till after biometrics. Keeping my fingers crossed for a fast response.
One thing I noticed though, while answering the guiding questions, if you don’t qualify for exemption, you’re directed to the IRCC secure portal but if you qualify, it leads you to the new portal.

Strange because i believe i submitted my mum's using the normal secure IRCC account and i got the Biometrics letter within 24 hours. Didn't even know there's a special portal

Looks like there was some type of lag period for 48 hours. Immediately I submitted, I got a confirmation of application transmitted, then got a confirmation of application submitted 2 days later and application number and UCI was assigned to the profile. I then got biometric request 24 hours later.

I’m hoping they’re still fast tracking applications for family reunification, I really need my mom here next month. Took this long to apply because Nigeria happened as usual, I jumped through hoops and paid through my nose to get her a passport.

This is my concern too especially as I haven’t gotten biometrics request more than 48 hours later. Can anyone who reapplied after Sept 7 and has gotten passport request confirm which medium they applied through. IRCC secure account or the IRCC portal

I applied for a visit visa for my mum 2 days ago via the IRCC secure account but I haven’t received a biometric request letter neither has an application number been assigned. I expected the biometrics letter within 24 hours as stated on the website. I’m just now finding out that there’s a new ircc portal for completing the application and I’m wondering if I need to re-apply. I don’t mind foregoing the previous fees paid

Hello, I’d like to know how this was resolved please. Were you able to get a refund? My sister is in the same position and is already looking to write with another centre but how to get back the money already paid to BC. It’s very disappointing that they didn’t deem if fit to put up a notice on their website about this development but their account number is there for unsuspecting people to keep paying.

Yes you can. My PPR mail did not specify where to send to, it just says send through VFS but people typically send to the ones closest to them. The only downside is it’ll cost you more but what you loose in money, you’ll gain back in time and peace of mind. Accra is stressing people out here mehn. I posted the process for sending to London earlier but it was deleted and I was banned.

Congrats mehn! This was a bloody long wait. As at your AOR date, I’d just paid for WES and hadn’t even sent transcripts or thought about IELTS yet I got PPR before you. This journey na real patience backed with prayer. Congrats once again.

PS- do not send your passport to any VFS in Africa, some of us still dey on the matter since o. This goes for all recent PPR recipients.

Has anyone evaluated ACCA F1-F3 diploma with WES recently? What was the outcome? I have someone who wants to write it to get 2 or more degrees but I’m aware WES wasn’t consistent with their outcome (1semester/ 1 year) in the past. The thing no cheap o before person go waste money.

The feeling is surreal. I wish everyone else still waiting the very best.

Just thought to drop this for people who may want to use 25% of pension as part of POF. I got my GCMS notes yesterday and it was completely disregarded. It wasn’t even mentioned anywhere in the notes so it might be worth reconsidering that option to avoid delays or even refusal.

The Canada VACs in both Lagos and Abuja are still closed. VFS Office is actually opened but not for Canada. Option is to wait it out, they’ll open eventually except you’re willing to travel to a neighbouring country to do it

I laughed at this post. I do get that the wait for ITA can be exhausting. I experienced it too but all these conspiracy theories sha. We should understand that this thing is a privilege not a right.
