Only a few wise men saw this coming after what they unwittingly described as the end of the civil war in 1970. I forsee more more of this standoff in the coming years and the rigorous interpretation of international law and political customs that would accompany them. This is not so good for the owners of Nigeria. Being hunted and powerlessly humiliated around the world. These people are in good numbers in every advanced nation of the world, and reasonably self suffiçient in finance. Interesting times ahead. 3 Likes |

What is happening is very interesting. The US and the UK incidentally are witnesses to the tyrannical manner in which Buhari treated Ipob protesters in the past three years, violated their human rights. Photos of which these embassies have. And their refusal to term them terrorists two years ago. To the contrary, the current Nigerian leadership is a threat to the new world order. I have been following the methods adopted by Ipob vizavis international law, I have not seen any violation. What is happening in Nigeria is new, but not new to westerners who'd fought tyranny in the past 800 years. From when the barons rose against a ruthless king John of England, and extracted concessions from him which gave birth to Magna Carta in 1215 to another revolution that gave birth to Bill of Rights in 1688. Up until the American revolution when the revolutionaries stood up against colonial Britain for the same tyranny. Which culminated to the model US constitution every nation wants to copy. Equally with the nearly unchangeable amendaments that guaranteed rights to " the people". So, there is nothing this adhoc, ignorant group can lecture the west about the activities of IPOB. Until they commit an act of terrorism, this group acting on behalf of Buhari, should be schooled on what constitutes terrorism. I think IPOB has come stay and Nigeria should learn the diplomatic skills to contend with this phenomena. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Biafra, the unfinished business! The behaviour of the Igbo was recorded in early European literature up until the 20th century. During slavery, they were known to commit suicide in order to show grievances. The "Ibo landing" in Georgia USA is a monument for that. They were highly priced slaves because of their acute intelligence. Early European explorers to Africa described them as "witty". In 1929, their women staged a formidable protest demanding to know how their taxed income was being spent by the colonial authorities. 1967 to 70, they waged a defensive war against the tribal agents of the colonial masters in Nigeria. It lasted for three years in which they augmented their foreign weaponry with locally manufactured deadly weapons. Now, in the 21 century, in their quest for self determination, they are taking the cause beyond any known level by a black African revolutionary movement except perhaps the ANC of South Africa. Hotfreeze: Wole Soyinka is differently a playwright while Achebe was a story teller whose master piece has been translated into 40 languages, and sold over 40 million copies world wide. A feat, no Nigerian, living or dead, has achieved. The measure of the success of a writer or an artist is the acceptance and popularity of the works. So, that should comparatively address your ignorance. On Achebe's death, the European media and academia addressed him as the "father of African literature". No Nigerian, living or dead, has been addressed as such. His Excellency, President John Mahama of Ghana and President Jonathan were physically present at his burial. No civilian Nigerian has been accorded that honor at death. We are watching and would see who else... Of course, the jealousy and fear toward the Igbo achievement and domination is an every day discussion in Nigeria. Enough said. 1 Like |

What kind of nod is this? In view of the security challenges in the country, this measure should be a part of the power devolution the people are demanding. It should be done in all zones. And which calls for state police. Enugu state has gone along to establish forest guard, but the right thing is to insist that state police be enshrined in the constitution. Call a spade a spade. 1 Like |

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has finally shut down Akanu Indian International Airport Enugu. The Airport was shut down 2300 hours (12 midnight Friday). However, a concession was given to Ethiopian Airline flight to land on Saturday because it was a pre-scheduled international flight before the decision to shut the airport. The airline had argued that the cost of conveying passengers from Port-Harcourt International airport to Enugu by road and providing accommodation for them would be too heavy on the airline, and therefore should be allowed to drop the passengers at Enugu since the flight was scheduled before announcement to shut down the airport. FAAN had on Saturday August 17 announced it’s intention to close down the runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport on Saturday, August 24, to effect maintenance that will enhance safety operations. Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, dropped the hint in a press statement in Lagos. “This move is aimed at resolving the existing Safety/Security concerns to flight operations,” she said. She stressed that the date of the re opening will be communicated in due course. Despite a passionate letter written to President Muhammad Bihari by governors of South East states to weight in and pressure FAAN to postpone the shutdown pending when alternative arrangements were made, the Federal Government went ahead with the shutdown. https://businessday.ng/aviation/article/faan-shuts-down-enugu-airport/ |

This is an opportunity for Buhari's "friends" like Orji Uzo Kalu, Dave Umahi, Willie Obiano, Chris Ngige, Rochas Okorocha etc. , and South East APC loyalists, like Joe Igbokwe, to show the people of the South East that their principal Buhari is a misunderstood man. They already told us we are missing a lot from Buhari. Good, now is the time to show the people a bit of Buhari goodies. In addition to the runway overhaul and expansion, now, is the time for Buhari to show that his order that Orie Emene Market be moved, telecommunication masts be dismantled, water from Ekulo river be piped to the airport etc, were with honest intentions. Buhari, your minister, Hadi Sirika, told Nigerians that five foreign airlines indicated interest to land at Enugu airport, but wouldn't be permitted given that the airport wasn't fitted with night instrument landing facilities. So, now, is the time for it to be fitted. Buhari, Air Peace, has indicated interest to make Akanu Ibiam Airport, their hub for west and central Africa routes, but haven't done so because of the lack of night instrument landing facilities and the unused, dilapilated buildings erected by the Airforce close to the runway. Now, should be the time to effect them. Buhari, Governor Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has complied with your instructions with regard to the masts, market, abbatoir etc. The ball is now in your court. And we must know the duration of these works. 12 Likes |

Police cannot arrest someone or a group of people for disgracing a public office holder in the west, it is acceptable. Forner German Chancellor was pelted with eggs and tomatoes several times for what the german public described as political misdeeds. 3 Likes |

AntiBalaka: I will, if time permits, but it doesn't remove the fact that the narrative I read was logically lopsided. War is chaotic and in such an event, there are bargains and shifting of sides by nations with vested interests. South south and East would be the cynosure of all eyes, what they offer, would be giving serious consideration even better than those from the sahel over a thousand mile from the oil wells. The oil wells are in these regions. We have seen how a little disruption from militants ruffles the global oil market let alone a full blown conflict. Anyways... |

AntiBalaka: One sided analysis. Have you factored in the current global geopolitics visaviz the post cold war politics of the US and Russia.... What positions are each going to take? We are living in a global village of fast communication where issues of human rights and international law are taking seriously more than ever? The support of the very weak countries you mentioned would have minimal bearing comparing with a single open support for Ss/Se by a major global player. Don't forget that the two regions have a quantum of resources to strike a bargain with the most powerful nations, even though their demand is legitimate and legal. |

wellmax: At the bolded, that reminds us of the Hart-Devlin debate and the harm principle propounded by the legal philosopher John Mills, which states that the only action that can be prevented is the one that creates harm. The reasoning behind the action of the "task force" is obscure. Was it based on the law of Niger state, traditional African beliefs or Islamic fatalism ![]() |

Yyeske: You may never decipher what I wrote giving that your pre conceived notion and unconscious bias about the region, wouldn't permit you to reason outside these confines. Biafra, as a landlock state, will have no precedent in international law. Read below extract and think for a second as most Nigerians type before they think. The "1 meter" would become an international waterway. Biafra would not need any so called goodwill from neighbour for ships to sail into its waters. Key phrases: "International law" "otherwise would be landlocked" BIAFRA WOULD HAVE FREEDOM OF NAVIGATION FROM HIGH SEAS TO HER BODY OF WATER.
|
![]() |
Let's assume for a second that a future Biafra would be without the Efik, Annang or the Igbo sister tribe of Ikwerre. In that situation, Biafra would rely on it's natural outlets to the sea; the distances of which are way way below the united nation's benchmark for qualification as a landlock country. Alright, the distance from Onitsha to the sea is about 100 nautical miles. From Azumini in Abia state is 25 nautical miles, the stretch of this body of water was used by King Jaja of Opobo. He was as well arrested at the estuary of this stretch. Oguta lake is another one, a few kilometers to the sea, about 45 nautical miles. The Nigerian army, during the war, navigated this body of water to gain entry into the Igbo heartland. On the other hand, the nearest country to the sea recognised by the UN as landlocked has a distance of 500 miles. Therefore, the United Nations, following the provisions of the customary international law, would not classify a Biafra without the current South South as landlocked as any small water way of less than 100 miles to the sea, would become an international waterway. See the list of distances to the sea recognised by the UN as landlocked. 1 Like

"Water e no get enemy" was one of the jazzy tunes that defined the good old days of Lagos. My special tribute to Tony Oladipo Allen, the founder of Afro beat. His trap drumming style and Fela's avant-garde tenor and alto sax improvisation, created our unique Afro beat. The two are a special gift to us. Thank u lord 3 Likes |

Pa Reuben Fasoranti was arrested and thrown into prison at Owo in 1984 by Muhammadu Buhari. He lost his first daughter while in prison, and Buhari permitted him only a few hours freedom at his residence to mourn his daughter. Fast forward 2019. Buhari in power and head of the murderous Miyetti Allah had given unspoken permission to this group to kill citizens of the nations that made up Nigeria. Again, Chief Fasoranti has paid another price of losing his third daughter to Buhari's killing machine, Miyetti Allah. What a sad irony. Only God knows what is going on in Pa Fasoranti' mind now. 2 Likes |

This is a lesson for an ethnic group that thinks the wicked arrangement called Nigeria is up for their abuse. So shall it be, very soon, when the south and all oppressed groups would demand immediate restructuring or nothing, with one voice. This is the test of the strength that lies in unity. |

HOW IGBOLAND IS LANDLOCKED INDEED By Dr. Ikedi Ohakim “Please let it be known from today that South -east is not landlocked. It is only our economy that is locked. One quick way of unlocking the economy of South-east is through marine business. Contrary to the impression that the South-east is land-locked, the truth is that it has one of the potentially deepest seaports in the country at Osemoto/Oseokwa in Imo and Anambra States. A seaport was designated there in 1959 but the project was abandoned and the admiralty member erased for obvious political reasons. African Development Bank (ADB) feasibility report on this is unambiguous. Oseokwa (Ihiala LGA, Anambra State) and Osemoto (Oguta LGA, Imo State) are the deepest natural harbor in the country (over 20m deep) and offer real naval and marine transportation platforms if developed. Besides, it lies only 18 nautical miles to the Atlantic Ocean and a strategic hub for the oil industry and inland dreadlocks to promote trade. This potential seaport has the capacity of handling over 35 per cent of marine business in Nigeria. As a matter of fact, it was the attraction to these potentials that made my administration in Imo state to site the Oguta Wonder Lake and Resort Centre in the area to encourage the federal government and foreign investors. If Ndigbo pursue and complete the seaport, it will also open up over 3,000 square kilometers of the most fertile agricultural land that has one of the highest alluvial deposits which has been in existence for well over a million years. My pursuit of this revolutionary project attracted both national and international panic and may have cost me second tenor as governor (see “Demoracy By Military Tank” by Ethelbert Okere) This deep seaport will create over two million jobs, directly and indirectly, in marine business, oil and gas, power, education, housing, agro-food industry, entertainment, tourism, etc. With that type of setting, Igbo youths will have no need to crisscross the country in search of jobs and in the process endangering their young lives”. Exercpts from H/E: Dr. Ikedi Ohakim being a keynote address at the first Chinua Achebe International Conference at UNN on 23/05/2017.
